I'm super sorry! I forgot to mention the homemade price. I used figures from Pack and Save, and the homemade cost is $3.75 for just over a kilo worth. Or .37 cents per 100g. I buy my milk powder in bulk so it would be even cheaper. The store bought is $3.99 per 395g or 1.01 per 100g. I think you could definitely use one less cup of milk powder as well, and I will try that and update you on Sunday's video. So it is a cost-saving to make your own.
@@FarmersWifeHomestead thank you for that detail & mentioning it on Sunday -much appreciated. I think you can also see that would save money but for me it was the realisation that it was so easy to make. Condensed Milk is in great demand over Summer with dips etc. Now I can make it in quantity!! You also looked pretty & Christmasy with the green top & the lovely red apron. I like apron too
Hi, that's very handy. I'm about to send this link to my daughter, who loves condensed milk. I'm in Aus, a 1kg of powdered milk in the cheaper brand is $10. 3 cups would be $7.50. At Coles a 410g of Nestlé Condensed milk is $3 on special this week, usually $3.80. I'm thinking we're paying a lot more than other countries for milk as so many comments that it'd save money. Absolutely handy, though, for as you said, if you want to make a dressing. Thanks for this. I, too, loved your green top and red apron. 🧑🎄
@@Kelli999 I think you'll find that there are 9.3 cups of milk powder per kg. Therefore the cost of the 3 cups of milk powder would be only $3.20. Hence the saving.
I just bought a short ton of condensed milk at Costco for my holiday baking. It's going back. My apologies if my furiously shrieked "WHAT!!?!!" reached the seismographs in New Zealand. I can't believe how easy that looks. Not to mention inexpensive! My fudge this year is going to be even more homemade than usual. Count me in for an ice cream tutorial. You are amazing!
If I find that on mine it's going right back! Thanks for the heads up. I can't believe every time I go to the store ANYTHING with an ingredient label must be checked and rechecked for that reason. I don't buy lots of packages foods but of course we have our favorite cheats, or may be enticed with sales here and there and it's amazing how every single trip I find something that used to not have bioengineered ingredients that now does. @@lolitabonita08
Hey Stacey another trick which gets rid of thoughs powdered milk grain crystals is Mix your 3 cups of milk powder in one 3rd of a cup of boiling water, then blend it on high for few minutes then put it back on the high heat for four minutes and boom no more grainy crystals in your condensed milk, and it tastes and acts just like regular condensed milk, I've been making this receipe for 40 yrs, I make a great condensed milk tart it's yummy.
Thank you so so much. I have all the ingredients at home. And constantly having to buy condensed milk. This is the best thing for me. Thank you for sharing

huh, I never knew! You are right, that is super easy! Have just added powdered milk to my next shopping list! And yes, I'd love to see recipes made with sweetened condensed milk.
Good morning! I'm bookmarking this for the future because we use sweetened condensed milk for winter-time desserts. I told my husband (who does most of the cooking) about your "apple pie filling roll-ups" using the wrappers. He thought about it for a moment, then remembered we had wonton wrappers in the freezer and leftover mincemeat fruit pie filling. He gave it a try and oh my goodness they came out amazing! We'll be making them for our next holiday gathering!

I make one with 1 can condensed milk and 600ml thickened cream splash vanilla extract. Mix well until thickened up a little put in the freezer. Best vanilla ice cream ever!!
The sweetened condensed ice cream is easy and yummy: mix 1c? heavy whipping cream to stiff peaks, add sweetened condensed milk 1-2 tsp vanilla extract, place in loaf pan cover, freeze 😋
Yes please for the ice cream and the dressing recipes. I have such fond childhood memories of my grandfather having his cup of tea with two teaspoons of condensed milk in it. He’d let me have some to put on my toast which was cooked on the open fire with a toasting fork. I grew up in Tasmania in the 1960’s. The salad dressing is also a lost childhood memory.
