One thing about an eclipse that no one realises unless they have seen a total eclipse of the sun is that it only starts to get recognisably dark at 95 percent totality.
In Mallorca It will be more difficult to feel the darkness since it is 8 minutes before sunset, but the beauty will be incredible. In the north of Spain the darkness will be seen better.
I was only viewing 90% totality in New York last month and it was visibly less bright around 70%. It was distinctly unique from sunset, but I would say it was similar to after the sun sets behind the lowest skyscrapers but before it meets the horizon.
Im glad to hear that and we have a second change in 2027 and in 2028 one more but this time anular, I will make more videos about it with lot of details.

I am very gratefull for this video. Im from Belgium, but i will 100% go to Spain to see this. Im not sure yet where exactly i would go, but thanks to you i consider Mallorca!!
You might be disappointed to hear the view will be poor from Spain in general, and especially in the Balearic Islands where the Sun will be very low, between 10 and 4 degrees above horizon and thus prone to distortion, refraction, pollution, and possible fog obscuring the view. While it’s risky, I’d recommend considering western Iceland where the eclipse will be happening at a reasonable 25 degrees above horizon, even if the weather may fail you. Because there’s always the 2nd August 2027 eclipse that is a much better reason to go to (southern tip of) Spain, essentially very unlikely clouds and a great angle of 36 degrees.
Thank you! 😊 Im gonna make more videos about the best places from where to see the eclipse in Mallorca since I come from there and I know all could happen. There is an Island of almost 1M people but in the Summer it can be 2M. The places where to see are very few , and they could close the roads due the massive affluence of people, Mallorca and Ibiza they are the places with the most chances of clear skies. It is a unique eclipse at sunset, and year later we have another chance with one total eclipse at 2027 at 11am.
August is one of the months with the clearest skies of the year. Mallorca and Ibiza have the most clear skies along the entire eclipse path. Yes, it is true that there is a risk since it is at sunset but I know Mallorca I come from there and I would say is 80% of success in the totality , 70% of success at sunset only 5% of dusty sky. In Iceland the chances clear skies are practically zero.On the other hand, I don't think there will be an eclipse at sunset so beatifull and with son many chances in long time. And there is real chances to see the green flash at the edges of the moon shadow. In 2027 with have another one in August in south Spain at 11am.
@@sunsetssweden While it is possible the view from Iceland will be fully blocked, usually at least one of the three peninsulas will have a visible view from the coast. I suppose I’ll mull over it still, best of luck in Mallorca or wherever you end up on the faithful day.

In my experience ( ive seen 6 total eclipses and 1 anular eclipse) the clouds start behaving differently when the sun is becoming obscured and the temperature drops , I was in la serena in chili and the images you show there was 1hour 20 before sunset(16:30), the sunset itself was also nice (17:57) and not clouded, but I think i prefer the sun being more up in the sky, cant wait to see this one!

There's still Palma, though, but anyway I think I'll be in a better position economically speaking to see that one, as I plan to have already settled in either Spain or Portugal by then.

Thanks! I am planning to go to Spain to see that eclipse since like 10 years and I just now realised its around 8 pm... I wonder if it will "destroy" the effect or it will be even more beautiful having sunset and eclipse happening at similar times.
In north Spain still the eclipse can be seen in its entirety before sunset, but the problem is the cloud coverage the use to have. Valladolid area has more chances and still in the north. In Balearic island 8 min before Sunset, I will be there for sure😎, is more difficult find place, but even if is dusty day will not to the totallity, only after to the sunset with eclipse. Good luck
So what is the best area in Spain (no islands) to see the next 2026 total solar eclipse? Could you give me a ranking please? Although it’s in 2 years, I’m super excited as it will be my first solar eclipse.
1 Valladolid 2 Palencia 3 west side of the mountains north of Madrid I would avoid Cantabric coast and the east of the peninsula because in August summer storms usually form late in the day, right at the time of the eclipse, apart from the fact that the sun is lower in the east too .
Ibiza and Mallorca are the places with less chance of cloudy skies but it is at 8 minuts before sunset that makes it unique , but there is no possibility of movement. In Ibiza arround 30 second totality in Mallorca more than 1 minut. On the peninsula I would choose Valladolid 20-30 minuts before the sunset the area and is less crowded and cheaper and you can move with the car if cheking the clouds if they gonna be on the path.
@@jt_miami4446 Moving from one area to another by car in case there are clouds. Mallorca has 1 million inhabitants in the winter and at that time there could be 3 million. There are very few optimal places to view the eclipse due to the mountains. Roads will be cut off, it will be a real chaos for those who are not in a good place early on. On the peninsula you could travel with car tracking the clouths if they are in the way and it gonna be 20 min before sunsets so could feel the darkness better. You have to choose between feel the darkness on the peninsula or sunset with eclipse in Balearic Islands. Menorca could be less crowded but there more chances of clouths because the summer stomrs could be form in the end of the day in Cuenca and Teruel.
It is a fairly high percentage, although the darkness will not be very noticeable. You will be able to see the shadow of the leaves of the trees in the shape of a half moon. I am collecting data on cloud cover in Spain and Iceland. I'll post a new video in a few weeks. Good luck !😎
I wish you good luck in Spain, the 2026 eclipse will be a challenge to find a good place since it is at sunset. But the season is the driest of the year, although summer storms can form at the last hour of the day in the Sistema Bestico in Cuenca a Teruel provinces. There are many reasons to be optimistic.
@@sunsetssweden First of all, thank you for your blessings. I also hope to realize this dream in Spain. Success or not, Spain is still worth visiting. August in Cuenca a Teruel provinces may have good weather due to the Mediterranean climate. But in my opinion, I would rather choose Gijon, a coastal city on the Bay of Biscay. I don’t know if the weather conditions will be better. After all, seeing the sunset with eclipse is very romantic. This Saros sequence of total solar eclipses will also end in 2044, and for me, this is one of the few opportunities to see a total solar eclipse in Europe in my lifetime.
I will be in Mallorca for sure, unless the weather forecast is very bad. It's an eclipse at sunset and I could be very beautiful and with many chances of green flash on the edges. The other option is Valladolid area in the peninsula in an elevated area, with the possibility of moving by car according to the clouds. We have another chance on August 2, 2027 in south Spain with the longest total eclipse in the remainder of the century and 6 months after the longest annular eclipse in the remainder of the century that ends at sunset right in the west of Mallorca.

I would avoid Cantabric coast and the east of the peninsula because in August summer storms usually form late in the day, right at the time of the eclipse, apart from the fact that the sun is lower in the east too .
@@sunsetssweden Thank you so much! I’m really grateful for you responding to our comments :)
Will visibility of the corona be affected, being so close to sunset?
Probably it will be afected more in the Mediterranean sea than in the north Spain
What will be the best city or town in Spain to be at for this eclipse? Is Ibiza a good one or is there better ?
Ibiza and Mallorca are the places with less chance of cloudy skies but it is at 8 minuts before sunset that makes it unique , but there is no possibility of movement. In Ibiza arround 30 second totality in Mallorca more than 1 minut. On the peninsula I would choose Valladolid 20-30 minuts before the sunset the area and is less crowded and cheaper and you can move with the car if cheking the clouds if they gonna be on the path.
Menorca, for sure!
Menorca is one of the top places 🤩
@@sunsetssweden what do you mean by no possibility of movement?
Can philadilphia see a partial of it
Yeah👍🏻 , but just a little www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/philadelphia?iso=20260812
@@sunsetssweden ah thanks
I can’t wait to visit pain for the first time
I live in germany its gonna be 86% coverage for me :D i will go to spain in 2028
Book early if you choose Mallorca 😎 It will be very crowded, but the best place
I plan to travel south of Spain in August 2027 instead, totally will last 4 minutes 30 seconds near Gibraltrar.
I live in United kingdom, Birmingham, B23 and this is the percentage:91.76%
almost total, right?
go to Spain!
It's still fine in the UK
It is a fairly high percentage, although the darkness will not be very noticeable. You will be able to see the shadow of the leaves of the trees in the shape of a half moon. I am collecting data on cloud cover in Spain and Iceland. I'll post a new video in a few weeks. Good luck !😎
Wait until there’s more traffic in flights in 2026 lol
Bro any about india will have total solar eclipse news😊
Only in March 20th 2034 , In the north of India in the border with Pakistan😎 Nothing more in the 21st century
Would you recommend going to majorca then?
I will be in Mallorca for sure, unless the weather forecast is very bad. It's an eclipse at sunset and I could be very beautiful and with many chances of green flash on the edges.
The other option is Valladolid area in the peninsula in an elevated area, with the possibility of moving by car according to the clouds. We have another chance on August 2, 2027 in south Spain with the longest total eclipse in the remainder of the century and 6 months after the longest annular eclipse in the remainder of the century that ends at sunset right in the west of Mallorca.
@@sunsetssweden There are 2 solar eclipses in Spain the same year? I though it was only on the 12th.
@@LoriMehler In one and a half year we have 3 eclipses in Spain.
2th August 2027 is also visible in other countries, the thirt one too and is 28th January 2028 but it can be bad weather in winter time in Spain.
I hope i get there
This exact eclipse is coming to Montana in 2044.
@@sunsetssweden I am thinking about Oviedo as well. I have never been to Asturias. With clouds you cannot really predict it until 2-3 days in advance. I learned this lesson this week.
@@pawelzielinski1398 And now join your problem planning with my adhd, and there you have a problem on planning
They always say it’s not for 100 more years or whatever and look. 😂
This will be 3rd eclipse at PEI
At Iberian Peninsula?
Argentina pls
Im gonna watch it in Valencia, then i will get an eclipse sunset
I wish you good luck! Keep in mind the mountains, they could block the sun if you are too close.
@@sunsetssweden i will be in the mountains, I don't know yet if there will be anything blocking the view
I will look for a European boyfriend to go see him together .
Solicito Novio europeo para ir juntos a verlo
ISTHERE GONNA BE THE ECLIPSE IN FRANCE
It will not be visible the totality , only partial and in the south of France at 99% which is very good😎
