- How cool was that? The April 8 total solar eclipse -- a moment we've been waiting years to experience -- put multiple Northeast Ohio locations like Cleveland and Akron in the path of totality.
And we were here to share the historic day with you with live streaming coverage inside this story!
TOTALITY
During our 3News special "Total Eclipse of the Park," we had live coverage from several spots around Cleveland as the city went into totality at approximately 3:15 p.m. At the Great Lakes Science Center, Russ Mitchell and Betsy Kling were joined by Dr. Jimmy Kenyon, director of Cleveland's NASA Glenn Research Center.

Is it zoomed in on TV, or did it look that large in person?

I drove about 6 hours round trip to be able to see it in totality. I was told it would be worth it, and they were right. It was one of the most speechless moments I've ever had in my life. Seeing in person beats this a thousand times over. I'll be making arrangements to see the next one in 2044. I hope I'll be blessed enough to show my future children such a beautiful event.
Me too. The most stunning thing I've ever seen. I was emotional.
Join us in Spain 2026!
My round trip drive (Laurel, Md to Indianapolis & back) was just about 3 times yours, and it was STILL worth it!! This was my 3rd totality, and it just doesn't get old or the least bit routine.
The forecast for Indy was pretty bad, but what were predicted to look like cloud cover, turned out to be just a thin haze that didn't interfere at all with the experience.
I think if we'd had a totally clear sky, the only real difference would have been seeing a couple more of the planets.

Had totality in Lewis Center, Ohio for just over a minute. We travelled to the one 7 years ago but only got into a 95% zone. There is no comparison. If you don't experience totality you cannot understand. One of the most incredible things I've experienced in my 60 years.

Absolutely mind-blowing to be able to see those huge solar flares with the naked eye. What an incredible historical moment for this city

Saw it from Vermont and absolutely agree, I can't even describe how amazing it was. It doesn't even feel real because of how different everything becomes.
It looks a bit dark right.
I definitely agree. I just saw it in Franklin Indiana, just south of Indianapolis, and I was totally blown away. It was the most incredible thing I had ever seen in my entire life, and an experience I will never forget. Ever. It was well worth the cost of getting there to the right area. Mostly clear skies were in the Indianapolis area. What truly amazed me is that I was actually able to see a couple of stars (or planets) during totality.
LOL
So glad I was in Cleveland with my mom to experience this amazing event. I'll never forget this! No pictures or videos compare to seeing this in person!
If watched with glasses, could see a red dot at bottom and the flares arcing. Was beautiful.
Was fascinated with that shining ruby.
Can you imagine how frightening this would have been for the people years ago that didn’t know what was happening.

Listening to people blab and make bad jokes during an event like this really takes away from the magnificence of what's happening. It was the best time for silence, listening to nature. The crickets started chirping. Birds changed their songs. It was amazing.
SORRY it was over rated. It was not pitch dark out. They said it would be dark as night. The atmosphere of the sun was enough to keep things light enough to see.
I listened to Pink Floyd in an HEB parking lot. And the entire staff came outside and cheered. It was amazing!
@@bunjijumper5345 looked exactly like night time where I was. Aside from there being bright sky far off on the horizon all around. I've seen a few partial eclipses in my life, that was my first total eclipse. That was way cooler.
Absolutely!! I can't comprehend people yakking and looking around throughout this experience. Shut up and look at the event! Silence is golden.
Just wasn't anymore special than walking behind a shaded office building. Can do that anytime without special glasses 🤯
Just beautiful! Partial Eclipses don't compare.
Yeah, not even in the same ballpark. Haha
I live in northeast Ohio, it was so surreal like something from out of this universe, I am 22 and that is my first totality and my god it was amazing
We had totality here in Leamington, Ontario - right across the lake from you guys. I've never seen anything like it. But somehow, in all the excitement, I can barely remember what it looked like! I don't even know how that could happen... I think it seemed so unreal that my mind wasn't sure if I should commit it to memory...? For hours later, I was asking my friends if it even happened, or if it was all a dream!
I was in a major viewing area with thousands of people, and the energy was absolutely incredible. I remember looking around and realizing that there was a ring of sunset all around us, while the land around us was shimmering from all of the streetlights in the town coming on at once. And I know I was looking at it, but I remember more of how I felt than what I saw. I know I looked at it for a bit longer at the end, and that's the one visual I could see clearly in my mind. Specifically the right side of it, where I could see these incredible, vivid red flares, and these extra sparkles of light around the rim. I remember hearing about "Bailey's Beads" and immediately knew that it was what I was seeing. And I have this final, vivid memory of the "diamond ring" coming back, and how everything around us lit up like a sunrise on all sides.
Anyway, I'm so glad that people took such amazing videos of this - it's really helping to jog my memory. I think some part of me truly thought that it wasn't real... it feels like a beautiful dream that I can barely remember.

I have never seen that before on vid in my life. Only pictures.
One of God's many incredible miracles.
I’m 22 years old and have wanted to see a total eclipse since I was that crazy space kid at age 7 and it finally happened. Words cannot describe how otherworldly and breath taking it is. The total realization how small and meaningless we are in our vast universe. I shouted (along with others whos noises echoed through the neighborhood) and then cried with joy .
If you have a deep connection to space or nature as a whole please try to see it. The whole short experience is unforgettable.
It was amazing and I felt sad thinking that I'm finally seeing it but this might be the only time I will ever see it
We are so small, and get YAHWEH God the Creator cares about us! 🥹 it’s unbelievable honestly. Here’s a Psalm about how He made the sun.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, Where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.”
Psalm 19:1-6 KJV
Small and meaningless? speak for yourself, something designed a moon to perfectly fit our earth. so id say were pretty special.
@FiveDrexler that's your reality where youre special. There are eons before us and and there will be eons to come after (well past the lives of our earth and sun) and if that doesn't put our smallness in perspective, I don't know what will!
@@joshuamulligan4155 well the whole solar system expanding thing is just a lie that makes us seem so small and insignificant, so why would there be a Creator who loves us and cares for us?
Satan has deceived the nations into thinking there is no God.
Yahweh is the Creator of all things. He loves us enough to die for us to reverse the curse of sin and death. Repenting of our son that separated us from a Holy God, and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and you can have eternal life.
Read the Bible and see God’s love for you! Jesus is coming back for His believers soon.

It was insanely incomprehensibly breathtaking in person…WOW!!!
This was so amazing. I live in New Hampshire and whatever my wildest expectations, they were exceeded. I was so in awe that even from 50% onward my mouth hung open in awe with a huge grin on my face (I even drooled during the eclipse, normally I would have freaked out about since that's very unladylike, but this time I didn't care, I was too overwhelmed with emotion to be grossed out, so I just let myself feel all the tidal wave of emotions). Also during the lead up to totality I had to keep yelling at my younger brother "Don't look at the sun! Don't look at the sun!" and kept telling him put his eclipse glasses on if he wants to look. Then totality arrived and I said "okay, you can look" and just seeing this indescribable sight. I spent weeks in the lead up talking about it nonstop and I'm going to maybe talk about it nonstop for another few weeks (a few people even nicknamed me "eclipse girl", haha).

@@Katiethreeable Iceland and Spain are having a total solar eclipse in two years if you are able to go there.
God is great! Amazing to see it in Toledo.
The eclipse proves the creation is bollocks. God created light on the first day and the sun on day 4. The eclipse proves the sun gives us light.
Nature and physics is great
That was just satan messing with god showing he can take the sun away any time if he wanted to and god can do nothing about it.
This is one of the best coverages of the eclipse I've watched. Very informative, and I felt like there was an appropriate level of excitement, not too over the top. And the footage trained on the sun/moon was perfect. I only got about 87% eclipse in my region. I hope to experience a total eclipse someday. I'll have to plan a vacation around it somewhere.
Wow.......... thank you for sharing this beautiful moment for us ❤❤❤
Im in California! Im so jealous of you all that witnessed this event. It's not fair!!! Everyone should be able to witness this, not just some States. Of course, we dont have control over it, lol 😢I've been watching it all day. It's 1:56 pm here.
😂 I know, it's like mother nature should have a suggestion box! 🤣 jk, she'd get pissed and do something crazy!! 😲🌪️
That's how I felt back in 2017 lol
I got to step outside to witness it❤️. It was truly amazing. If you ever get the chance to travel to see one, it’s worth it. The darkness and the beauty of it was great!
@@j3ttagrl420 🤣🤣 she might!
You should have never voted for joe bite-me.
Thanks God, I needed that.
I did too
Would have love to be there, but this is the second best thing. Thank you to all that film it and upload it.
Seeing this in person in Ohio will be a memory that sticks with me forever, along with the 2017 eclipse.
This coverage was perfection.
Yeah, perfectly awful.
It was beautiful. Total understatement but true. Seeing everyone outside and watching in awe in unison. Humbled to be a part of it. (Reminded me of Delores Claiborne though 😂)
I truly get u
She was great..one of a kind
Love that movie😊
I saw the total eclipse in Kent, Ohio, yesterday and it’s remarkable how much light and warmth the sun gives off even with only a tiny fraction of light reaching us. Seconds before totality the whole atmosphere became magical and at totality I took my glasses off and the corona around the moon was just breathtaking.
Smaller camera did a great job of showing how dark it really got here during totality. Absolutely surreal experience I'll never forget
Saw the solar eclipse from the back yard of the apartment and the darkness.
Me too
This is absolutely beautiful and God is so so great
Is he now? ...Why is giving cancer to little babies then?

Read John 10:10!!
Yes only God can do something like this and the fool has said in his heart “there is no God” Psalms 14:1
@@PatriciaR.E. some of us can't fathom a God who may send us to eternal suffering, misery, depression, LONELINESS and PAIN if we so much as forget to repent for ONE sin, not to mention the WORST of our sins. Why would I want to be a part of a divine universe, vision, when all God is going to be with me upon arrival at the Gates is FURIOUS? There is a REASON people lose faith, it is when we remember that NO, God is NOT happy with us at ALL. I just WISH, since He never makes mistakes, he would have just wiped the Devil OUT and put things BACK to normal. GOD did not cause humanity's Fall. It was Lucifer, who lost his WAY.
@@PatriciaR.E. I did...doesn't say anything on why is god giving cancer to little babies.
We watched this at Edgewater Park and words do not describe what this was like in person. With our beautiful skyline lit up. This was the most amazing thing I have ever saw
I loved every second of this today.
