I would add a fourth category in addition to those categories: covered in a substance that could potentially be dangerous when ingesting through self-cleaning (oil, dog poo, pesticide, etc)
An older rabbit can and will get messy bottoms. Our last bunny was sick and made messes of his bottom, we usually filled the very bottom of the bathtub with warm water. I would let his bottom soak for a short time, this softens the fur and loosens the dried in gunk. We usually let the bunny move around in the tub, but monitored him closely. After gently scrubbing, he was wrapped in a towel and the towel changed often. I recently had to trim out our 3 year old. During molting, he had tags of fur on his bottom. My wife held bun while I carefully trimmed the tags. I always try and keep my fingers between the scissors and the skin. I always check for distance between skin and scissors. I love your video, great job on caring for your older bun. It is hard dealing with an older bunny, but well worth it. They love us so unconditionally, it shouldn't be an issue doing this for them.
Same here :( my bun is getting older with cancer and I’m just appreciating the time I have left with her. She’s been acting healthy since it developed months ago and is still very lively. I hope we all still have a good amount of time with our babies ❤
Hallo Hoffe Du hast eine/einen Partner/Partnerin für Dein Kaninchen 😊 man sollte sie immer mindestens zu zweit halten denn alleine sind sie sehr einsam😢
@@susannereinhardt171They are okay alone as long as your bunny gets lots of love from you🥰 My buns each live alone but have an hour of grass time with me in the yard daily😁 They are outdoor bunnies but they don’t have access to grass all the time. Only when I take them out👍🏻🥰
I have been watching ur channel for 5 years and I have been begging my parents for one and they have finally said yes. I am so excited as I have ordered all the supplies I need today! U have educated me about all things bunny related and I and going to adopt a pair from the shelter in a few weeks. I would not be here right now without ur videos and dedication. Thank you so much Lorelei!
My sister once washed my rabbit when she had cancer. She got diarrhoea, very badly. She got fixed up at the vets 3 times before she died. When I washedmy rabbit, i used to lay next to her by the fire place till she dried out. Her fur smelt so lovely. I remember how fluffy and soft she was and how her whiskers used to tickle my hands and face when she licked me. I loved her twitchy little nose, she wassuch a clean rabbit before she got cancer. I loved her!!!!
I just went through this with my beloved bun, George who became an elder bun way too soon! Time goes by so fast!!! I used bun-specific shampoo and wipes for him from Pet Smart and Chewy and did so much research and had vet consult to make sure I was doing the right thing by my fur baby.. Unfortunately, he went over the Rainbow Bridge on October 24, 2024.. I was with him all the way there.. my heart is shattered! Our fur babies are never, ever here long enough! I hope Lennon is here for years to come, although o know it’s pretty rough on you both right now.. I’ve followed you both for many years. You’ve taught so many of us so many things about bunnies and we are forever grateful to you both! Sending love and hugs to you Lorelai and Lennon! Stay strong! ❤
for real!! "as long as you build a decent level of trust with your rabbit they should let you give you this bath" i like to think my poorly socialized adult adoptee rabbit trusts me but tbqh she would sooner launch nukes at me than let me wash or trim her butt
@ that’s so relatable!! I’ve built a decent amount of trust with my bunny I think, I’m able to groom him and clip his nails and it takes about 20-30 minutes but there’s also multiple attempts to jerk away cuz most rabbits still prefer not to be messed with!! I think if I tried to trim my rabbits butt he would jerk away and accidentally stab himself 😭 so I hope it never comes to a point where I have to try!
Hi! You were the one who made me want to get a rabbit and even though she passed a year or so ago I’m so glad I got her. She helped me learn how to cope with losing a pet and also helped me learn where I needed to help myself as of mental health
I know from experience how hard it is to see your best friend get sick. We went to the vet 6 times with our free-roaming pet rabbit, Max. He's almost six and he's my emotional support animal. The vet gave him antibiotics, and he's slowly getting better. I even wrote a song about it called 'My Best Friend is Sick' because music is an important way for me to express myself.
I pray daily for Lennon. May God bless you guys alot. Your videos inspire and help me alot in taking care of my bunny. I find your channel the best for bunny information and care!
Lennon is such a good girl. She really is the poster bun for everything that all of us aspire to achieve with our bunnies. You are also an inspiration to us all Lorelei. I have recommended your channel to everyone I know who has ever indicated that they are interested in having a bunny as yours is the most accurate source for all things bunny related. Keep on being the bunny super mom that you are!!!
I’m a first time commenter but a long-time viewer. Your channel has provided us with excellent, well-communicated and easily digestible content. I watched for one year before I finally rescued and bonded my free-roaming house buns, and also now we are fostering a bun for a rescue local to us. They are everything to me and I thank you for your educational content. As someone, myself, who works in public health communications in front of the camera, I can see how hard it is to show up during this heartbreaking time while Lennon’s health declines. Please know that both you and her have positivity impacted so many lives and we are all hurting with you and are here to support you through this next journey. 💚 Edited to say we also use your hop boxes.
Ur videos are so helpful Tysm I have been following u for almost 2 years yesterday was my bunny’s birthday and he just turned 1 year old 🎉and also I hope u and Lennon lid a long and happy life stay strong Lennon 😊
I got my bunny 4-5 years ago from the shelter she was already 4-5… my son and I watched Lennon the bunny to educate ourselves to make sure she was living her best life possible… she is has been free roaming ever since. However, she is now between 8-10 she is now blind in one eye and she has a problem jumping…. I saw Lennon the bunny litter box and I am so glad I am back! Our Pixel is family…
Thank you so much for making this video, Lorelei! My boy is aging too and like Lennon he has arthritis and needs extra love and attention. This is so helpful, I can read articles and listen to vet instructions but having a visual video makes a huge difference, thank you and Lennon both so much for sharing! You are taking wonderful care of her! 💜
My rabbits LOVE their booty bath. They feel so much better after they will even binky a little once they get all dry and have put every hair back in place! I'm so glad you gave us this video. I have been using baby shampoo, as I was unsure what would be safe. The coconut oil is a great tip too! Thank you!
With my older bun, i would use a syringe with warm water and gently comb out messes. Also, corn starch is great. I would apply a little corn starch with my hand or a washable powder puff (purchased at the dollar tree). The corn starch will aborb the wetness and can be gentle combed or brushed out. Those eye brow brush comb things worked well for us.
I started watching Lennon since 2021, that’s when I first got my baby bunny. Seeing her getting old makes me sad, not something that we could stop. I just don’t I am ready for it, when I see my bunny gets old too. 😢❤
For the eye area, you can use tea (not hot!), my last bunny needed his eye cleaning for 5 years and our rabbit specialist vet recommended it, it doesn't sting.
I found it helpful when my lop had similar issues to use a foaming pet cleanser in the mornings between wash times. It's very gentle enzyme based stuff and helps with the odor too.
My vet use a small electric shaver on batteries like some of them women uses for bikinilines , and sometimes she also uses wetvipes. and I sit with Snoopy in a chair while she (The vet) sits on a small steppingstool in front of us. There is a reading lamp behind us so she can see everything. I am so proud of him. He take it so fine even tho he hates us 😂 and my vet is so gentle. I love her so much! ❤ And the fact that she comes home to us 😊 cause she is a mobile-vet so Snoopy is in his own environment. She has followed him from he was a small fur baby and for 7 years now ❤
I give my bunny baths in a similar way. She’s about 6 now. She doesn’t really need them but she loves them😂 we do nail and hair days together, she even loves the blow dryer. Maybe she’s just a girly girl? lol. she always binkies and runs around after she feels clean. Such sweet little creatures.
I own a sweet 7 year old lop- bunny and I use the smallest dog- trimmer to take care of his bottom area. I take 5 mm (there is a shorter option too) and it is easy to use. At first I was so nervous that I can't use it and will harm him. But it was easy. It is a wireless machine. I trim him every too weeks. When fur is short, I can use baby-wipes to clean this area about twice or three times a week. Of course this is not helping with paws. My soon to be 7 year old "normal" ear bunny is still very clean. You cleaned your girl so nicely. Happy days to both of you.❤❤ Best wishes to every bunny-lover from Finland.
My little bunny died in my arms yesterday. I picked him up and went to look out on the terrace where he used to run around. He seemed strange to me, breathing deeply, as if he was suffocating. He started to go completely limp, then he let out a few squeaks, and in that moment, he went completely soft-his soul was gone. He left his eyes open. After a little while, he began to twitch violently-probably post-mortem convulsions. I’m absolutely devastated. I cry on the tram, on the bus, at work, in the evening, now, all the time. How the hell am I supposed to get through this? I can’t. It doesn’t comfort me that he “went to heaven” or crossed the “rainbow bridge” or that we’ll meet again. I’ll never see him hop around again, and now, all I see from my window is his little grave. It’s so damn cruel! I’d love nothing more than to bring home a little one right away, but it feels disrespectful. Still, I feel like I’ll keep crying until a little soul comes along to bounce around the garden again. Sigh.
My late rabbit, Wilma, developed early arthritis, so, for a long time, she had to be cleaned up almost every other day. Eventually, the vet prescribed her an anti-inflammatory medicine, and she was immediately able to start cleaning herself again. Hardly ever had to clean her up after that. It took a while to get the dosage right though. When she had her blood tests, the vet was concerned that she might have kidney disease, so lowered the dosage. After a year, her blood results went back to normal, and her kidneys were fine. Since Lennon does have kidney disease, I expect that kind of medicine wouldn't be appropriate as it might exacerbate her condition.
Thankfully my bun is still young and generally healthy, but I have had to bathe/clean him up a bit 2 times. The first time was when he was recovering from an episode of GI stasis. He was eating a special recovery food I had gotten from the vet and I'd just been able to transition him from syringe feeding to letting him just eat it out of a little bowl. The only thing was he ended up getting some of it caked in his bunny beard, so I had to do a little careful initial trimming and then just made sure to wipe his face with a warm moist washcloth a after he ate a few times The second time (and last time) I ever had to help bathe him was after I had unexpectedly got real sick and spent a few days in the hospital. My mother had said she'd be able to take care of him for me, and while she did make sure he had enough food and water, it unfortunately turned out she hadn't kept up with his litter box. So when I got back home my poor baby had a mix of his poo/pee stuck on his feet 😢. I didn't have to trim anything that time, but I did do similar to your vid here. I ran his feet under a little warm water, used a bit of Dawn soap, rinsed them off real good and dried his feet as much as I could with a towel. I kept an eye on him and within an hour he had forgiven me, was all dry, and back to zooming around and cuddling. I'm hoping it's long long time before I have to think about having to help him clean himself again 🙂
My bunny does not like to be handled. I can pet her and massage her and she doesn't mind but holding her is not an option. I have a 10 gallon bucket that I put soapy water in and she will stand up in it and let me wash her bottom and her back feet. Then I rinse her off and dry her and then I cut her nails. I only do this about twice a year when it is warm outside and it works out pretty well 😊
Very nice I had to do a similar thing to my late cat Apple I clipped him but with blunt zissors and shave him just wet him but Bunnies are a lot harder than cats I didn’t have to worry about temperature. I commend you for for being a great bunny parent!
When my bunny had a stroke I had to spot clean her area with baby wipes and use a micro cloth to gently dry her she would nibble and lick me when I was doing it as I knew she wanted to groom herself but couldn’t. And yes I did have her are clipped too. Eventually she had to be put to sleep as she was only getting worse she was 11 years old. My sweet Turbo❤
Hello , Lorelei I love your vids your so pretty , I LOVE YOU AND LENNON ,lennon is so big . you and lennon are so strong love you guys so much stay positive
My bun is around 5, so not yet . But I hope when I do have to give her a spot bath , she cooperates like your sweetie pie does . Right now , clipping her nails is a big production number . And I’ve had her for 3 years . I caught her as a domestic feral when she was around 2 years. She just hates being picked up . She’s sliced me pretty hard at times .
HI LORELEI! because of you, My 3 rabbits Hammy, Cookie and Cream is alive with me in everysingle second and day, months❤❤❤. Now Hammy is a big boy! So is cookie and Cream! A good girl!
Can I just ask for advice? I rescued a little lion-head rabbit, he's two years old and is just wonderful. He is free roamed and is free to go anywhere, he doesn't chew anything he shouldn't and is completely toilet trained. The issue is, he won't actually roam anywhere. He doesn't like tiles or wooden flooring. I have placed down large mats/rugs just for him and he won't leave them. I try to entice him off the mats to encourage him but he still runs to sit on my feet until he is back to his safe place. If I sit on the floor, he will sit with me or on me, but unless I'm there, he just won't go anywhere. I have him now 7 months.
It's natural for rabbits to not want to walk on bare floors, especially tile. They don't have paw pads like dogs and cats do, so unless they can penetrate the material with their nails, it's too slippery for them. You wouldn't want to run on ice either, right? You could hurt yourself, and so can rabbits on bare tile. The most affordable choice is simply to gradually add more non-sliding rugs and mats and such to expand the space he can safely walk on. The non-sliding part is really important, because a rabbit could start avoiding rugs too if it takes notice of sliding. You can get slide stoppers pretty cheap but smaller lighter rugs are more prone to sliding even with those added, so it's best to buy a few larger and heavier rugs than many many small ones for this purpose
Is there any way you can get a professional to do this? I know my Bunny Gal would not be nearly as cooperatives as Lennon is while attempting to do this. Of course, my Bunny Gal is about 7 months old, so I don't have to worry about this for now.
Honest co soap and shampoo 2 in 1 is best for gentleness. I know Dawn is used on animals but just try honest co soap, it's feel good great and the only reason I was able to grow hair.
Hi Lorelei, I was wondering is it OK if you can make a video to help me or maybe others with the same problem my bunny keeps on digging on carpets and blankets and biting holes how can I prevent this? He has lots of toys I don't know why he rather eat the carpet, then play with his toys.
Hey queen, unfortunately my rabbit has a huge issue with getting wet and he is all matted on his bum. Any tips he doesn’t like being touched there or picked up! He’s a drama king❤❤❤
One of my rabbits has long fur, so her bottom always gets very dirty, and the poo sticks to it. I dont know how to prevent that other than cutting the fur. Any ideas?
I reach the number 3 reason to start bathing my rabbit. My french lop struggles grooming himself back there so I am setting up a plan as he is 7kg, so a bit of a handfull to say the least.
hello ı want to ask a question. I adopted a Holland Lop rabbit when it was one month old. At first, I tried to potty train it, and I succeeded. For a while, it used its litter box, but once it entered its hormonal period, it started doing its business everywhere. For a few months, I used a baby diaper on it. It developed a habit of peeing on my bed, and even when I used a diaper, it would get on the bed to go. Now, I'm trying to retrain it, but it still hasn’t adapted to using the litter box. It holds in its urine just to go on the bed. I’ve put up barriers so it can’t get on the bed, but now it just keeps holding it in. Do you think it will get used to the litter box again? Do you have any advice for me?
Hey Lorelei I've got a question if u find my comment. My rabbit is just 2 and a half and has no disability but he's white and his underside fur is super yellow and matted. I'm not sure if i should bathe him. Could u pls help?
What if the bunny is an angora and excessive grooming isn't enough to clean her and the fur won't come off unless I use a product to get it out easier I brush her everyday and yet she has more and more fluff I bathe her in a hot environment with luke warm water then use a gentle drier and she doesn't mind the process as she seems happier when I do that once in a long while Am I a monster for taking care of her like this?
I would add a fourth category in addition to those categories: covered in a substance that could potentially be dangerous when ingesting through self-cleaning (oil, dog poo, pesticide, etc)

The only thing was he ended up getting some of it caked in his bunny beard, so I had to do a little careful initial trimming and then just made sure to wipe his face with a warm moist washcloth a after he ate a few times
The second time (and last time) I ever had to help bathe him was after I had unexpectedly got real sick and spent a few days in the hospital.
This was very helpful my 8yrs old dwarf needs help to thank you lennon
Thank you for posting this! My rabbit just stopped grooming themselves well a month ago.
Truly excellent!!! Thank you and thank you Lennon for being such a good girl.
Thank you for sharing; I hope my bunny boy will grow old with me so I can take care of him this way ❤️
My bunny does not like to be handled. I can pet her and massage her and she doesn't mind but holding her is not an option. I have a 10 gallon bucket that I put soapy water in and she will stand up in it and let me wash her bottom and her back feet. Then I rinse her off and dry her and then I cut her nails. I only do this about twice a year when it is warm outside and it works out pretty well 😊
Very informative, Thank you!!🤍
So cuteee❤
I needed this!!
Very nice I had to do a similar thing to my late cat Apple I clipped him but with blunt zissors and shave him just wet him but Bunnies are a lot harder than cats I didn’t have to worry about temperature. I commend you for for being a great bunny parent!
Love you Both Lorelei
❤❤❤❤
Omgg I'm early for the first time I've been a fan of you and lennon for sooo long
When my bunny had a stroke I had to spot clean her area with baby wipes and use a micro cloth to gently dry her she would nibble and lick me when I was doing it as I knew she wanted to groom herself but couldn’t. And yes I did have her are clipped too.
Eventually she had to be put to sleep as she was only getting worse she was 11 years old.
My sweet Turbo❤
Len. U are sooooo patient!!
Hello , Lorelei I love your vids your so pretty , I LOVE YOU AND LENNON ,lennon is so big . you and lennon are so strong love you guys so much stay positive
All the best to you Lorelei.
She’s sliced me pretty hard at times .
it must be made very sure, not to hurt the rabbit with the scissors 💙
greetings from Germany
🎀
I sort of have to do that with one of mine, she's almost 9 yrs old and 100% lionhead bunny with lots of fur..♥️🥹
Yes rabbit power. With respect, The Rabbit.

HI LORELEI! because of you, My 3 rabbits Hammy, Cookie and Cream is alive with me in everysingle second and day, months❤❤❤. Now Hammy is a big boy! So is cookie and Cream! A good girl!
Good bun bun! 🧼🚿💗🎀
I think clippers if they are ok with it would probably be safer than scissors incase the bunny makes a sudden movement.
Thank you ❤
Love you both❤❤️❤️
Hi Lorelei, I was wondering is it OK if you can make a video to help me or maybe others with the same problem my bunny keeps on digging on carpets and blankets and biting holes how can I prevent this? He has lots of toys I don't know why he rather eat the carpet, then play with his toys.
Hi. Just curious on why Dawn is used ? Shouldnt it be any type of pet friendly shampoo instead?
Dawn is pet friendly :)
Any ideas?
Can you use baby wipes to clean there bottom and feet?
I reach the number 3 reason to start bathing my rabbit. My french lop struggles grooming himself back there so I am setting up a plan as he is 7kg, so a bit of a handfull to say the least.
Bless you.
Wow she is good girl . LENNON
hello ı want to ask a question.
Can u use pet safe wipes or are they bad for them
Sending loveee
How do you get your rabbit to accept this
I assume it starts with handling from a yoh g age and outting them in different positions? X
What if the bunny is an angora and excessive grooming isn't enough to clean her and the fur won't come off unless I use a product to get it out easier
I brush her everyday and yet she has more and more fluff
I bathe her in a hot environment with luke warm water then use a gentle drier and she doesn't mind the process as she seems happier when I do that once in a long while
Am I a monster for taking care of her like this?
