Highs More practical than the Model 3, dual-motor powertrain supplies plenty of giddyap, interior is a tech-lover's dream.
Lows Handling isn't as engaging as the Model 3, build quality is iffy, not everyone will appreciate the all-digital dashboard.
Verdict If you're simply looking for a Model 3 with a bigger trunk, look no further, but we think there are more compelling EV SUVs to consider that don't wear a Tesla logo.
Overview
The Tesla Model Y tried to capitalize on the red-hot success of the Model 3, but the all-electric crossover is more fizzle than sizzle. Whereas the Model 3 nails its mission with a handling that dances and impressive range, the 2022 Model Y feels like a lazy effort to appeal to the SUV-buying public. Its handling is less engaging than the 3’s and its cabin-while largely carry-over from the sedan-doesn't do enough to differentiate itself, which serves only to magnify our criticism of both its fit-and-finish and the problems that the all-digital environment creates. It's not entirely without value, though. Its estimated driving range is good compared with rivals such as the Ford Mustang Mach E and the Volkswagen ID.4, and the Long Range trim promises up to 330 miles per charge. Plus, the Tesla is available with an optional third row of seats which is still rare in the world of EVs SUVs.
What's New for 2022?
The Standard Range entry-level model has been discontinued for 2022, making the Long Range the de facto base model. Estimated driving range for the Long Range is up this year, to 330 miles when equipped with the standard 19-inch wheels. Picking the more attractive 20 inchers drops range to a claimed 318 miles per charge.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Long Range: $67,440
Performance: $71,440
Buying an electric car is all about driving range, and the Long Range and Performance models offer 330 and 303 miles of range, respectively. We'd go with the Long Range, which maximizes driving range while offering plenty of performance. There are few ways to customize your Model Y, and only five colors for the exterior-three of which cost extra. Those seeking the optional third row of seats can add them for an additional $3000.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The Model Y lineup no longer includes a Standard Range cost-leader trim. No loss there; the Model Y's Long Range and Performance models are more compelling than a Standard Range trim anyway. Thanks to a generous Car and Driver reader, we were able to test an all-wheel-drive Long Range, which zipped from zero-to-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, a mere 0.4 second behind our long-term Model 3 sedan. The Performance model delivered an even quicker 3.6-second blast to 60 mph in our testing. While the Model Y offers impressive acceleration, it doesn't deliver the same level of driving satisfaction as the Model 3. The SUV body creates a higher center of gravity, which dulls the sharp edge of the Model 3's handling, and the Y's ride is considerably rougher over road imperfections as well.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The all-wheel-drive Long Range offers 330 miles of range; the Performance model's estimated range drops to 303 miles. But the latter comes with 20-inch wheels, a lowered suspension, a higher top speed (155 mph), quicker claimed acceleration, and a dedicated Track mode.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Model Y doesn't come with the larger Model X crossover's complicated Falcon Wing doors; its interior is mostly carryover from the Model 3 sedan. Like that car, it is largely free of buttons and relies mostly on a large infotainment display centered on a simple dashboard. An all-glass roof lends an airy ambience to the cabin but is heavily tinted to avoid roasting occupants in Sun Belt states. The optional third row of seats adds a steep $3000 to the Model Y's price-we can't imagine they'll be spacious enough for adults to ride in comfort.

Yep, what a car. It's bumpy, it's rattly, when I want something I need to take 2 minutes on the screen, it's unreliable, bad build quality, cheap materials, a steering wheel that wobbles up and down when you move it, the top of the door wobbles, horrible brittle sound on the trim when you knock it, fabric on the bottom of the seats, not covered back cup holders in the armrest and covered with cheap plastic, when I put down the back armrest while in drive it makes a loud rattling sound, bad door closing sounds, cheap fabric speakers and part of dashboard which gets worn out quickly, the roof window gets orange in the sun, back seat shaking around while drive, back seat belts unsupported so they fall to the side any time you move, scratchy seat belt material, the backs of the front seats are covered with cheap scratchy plastic, old Teslas had a manual opening storage in the centre console, new Teslas centre console storage place is dangerous and can get your hand scratched and caught, back windows only go half way down, zero back window visibility, squeaky windows, loud cabin noise, barely any configuration choices. If you question me, I tell you that I test drove two Teslas for myself. Teslas should be £15,000 - £20,000 not £50,000, it just doesn't make sense. Beware, Tesla is a scam.
- Add on: Before I went for my test drive, it took me 5 minutes just to open it. I placed the card onto the door pillar where it was meant to be and it just didn't open, Tesla should just make a key for goodness sake and trying to be "unique"!! I don't want to take 5 minutes opening a car thank you very much.

The brake pedal vibrates loudly when use cruise control
Interior is cheaper than Honda civic
Noise level is high
At stop, a pump noose is MUCH louder than a gas engine car
The AC (air condition) is very loud
There is a very high pitch noise on highway
Windows must slide up and down to open or close doors ( this is a cost waiting to be paid)

bizzare design, not proporsional, seen it on the highway today, just looking strangly oversized, I still think the Model 3 is the only real looking EV still to date. Even Ioniq 5 I found too chunky compared to other cars on the road. The designers have lost the proporsions and eye for a good looking car. Hard to choose a car that is pleasing to the eye nowadays.

What an awful looking car, like a cheap disposable aluminium can on wheels, the only problem is it's expensive. The interior especially is awful. It looks very cold and sterile, like you're sitting at a desk chair in an office looking at a flat screen. No nice dials and controls. Absolutely awful. The background music doesn't help in negating that impression either.
An interior doesn’t need 100 buttons on the steering wheel & LED lights, many prefer just simplicity and don’t want tacky stuff like that

Первые полтара года у меня был ниссан лиф потом 3 года откатался на шевроле болт и щас год почти у меня тесла модель Y
Что шеви что тесла с салона новые и вот если бы шевик был таких же гобаритов как тесла то не задумываясь взял бы шевика он по всем показателям лучше...
