I personally always loved it. It's the best high-stakes fight Deku has ever been in, purely because there wasn't any powerup, there wasn't any help. Just him, his current 8% of Full Cowling and Delaware Smash: Air Force against an opponent who can trade blows with Deku. It's the only fight where Deku is just fighting fair and square (no 100% while trading one of his limbs), and so does his opponent, and the more powerful and skilled one wins. All the while the stakes are high because of characters, Eri's smile and everyone's hard work to make people have fun at the Festival, not because of people's lives being in danger. Gentle Criminal and La Brava are also interesting characters with understandable motivations, they are not evil, just misguided and mistreated. It's a masterfully crafted arc imo. It is admittedly very different from literally every other arc, so maybe that's why it gets so much slack.
