    That nightmare turned out good. Nice job. You got a little clumsy at the end. Lol. It’s hell dropping little things and having to sleep on it and start looking again the next day. Lol. Good job working so we could see it too. Lol.

      So true Harry! I loved the challenge. My heart sank when that beating dropped. I am a very persistent person. Plus it does not hurt that I used to clear bombing ranges for a living. Spent a lot of time looking for small pieces of metal! 😂. Thanks for watching!

    Hey ! No need to do all this, just drill a hole in the part of the bit which is stuck inside, then put a hex bit inside that hole, hit it with a hammer so it goes inside the stuck part and then pull it out with pliers. That’s it ! I hope this is helpful

    Man!!! You totally saved me from buying a new compact drill this Christmas. I’m so thankful 🙏🏽 It took me no less than 20min to fix. My barring also took flight. I found it under my refrigerator😂.

    I put my impact with the stuck bit in the freezer. Two hours later, I could pull it out with pliers. It was much more than pliers stuck for me before chilling it. Maybe the hammer would have worked for me, too.

    I just had a broken bit deep in the chuck of my DW056. I found that lifting the chuck (as if to remove an intact bit) pulling the trigger eventually loosened up the broken bit. At first, I had the driver going in reverse as I held the chuck up and pulled the trigger for 3-5 seconds. I noticed that the broken bit had moved a little. I also noticed that I was in reverse. I switch the direction to forward, pulled the chuck up again and held the trigger down (no pulsing on and off). The bit fell out after about 10 seconds.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is awesome you were able to get that thing out without any disassembly. I tried and tried. My friend had that thing stuck really good. I will try your pulsing method first if I ever run into this again.

    I used a bit that was for a screwdriver, not the kind intended for quick release chucks. It was really stuck tight. I got the clip and spring out, but the collar would not come off. I pried onthe collar and hammered hard on it, but it would not slip off. After hours of pulling on the bit with vise grips, it was cracking, and there was just a nub left. So I used a horse shoe nail puller. Luckily I got a grip, and pried on it with my weight and saw it move. I few more times and it came out. Then the collar slipped right off and the bearings fell out. I still can't figure out why the collar was stuck too, but I've learned my lesson, I'll never use the wrong bit again!

    Thanks buddy! I had a stubby phillips bit somehow jammed in there. Not much to grip on since it is tapered, but I used vise grips and even though I had a pretty good handle on it, nothing doing. So I took it apart and by cranking the vise to tight that it finally gripped it good enough, I was able to use the rubber mallet and get it out. this was my last resort.

    Use a wire like 14 gauge wedged under the collar to keep it in the released position. No need to remove the spring or anything. Then do just what you did i.e. catch bit in a vise and tap impact driver body. I used a punch and a small hammer and bit popped out. In the end your video solved the problem for me, so thanks.

    Fantastic job , I've got the same problem but I've not got any of the bit sticking out , I've tried to glue the bit back to the one inside with strong steel epoxy with no luck , then I tried to drill the centre with a really small bit hoping once drill bit was in it a bit I could pull it out , that didn't work either as the bit is so hard . I might see if I can take the curclip out like you did and maybe push it up from bottom . Thanks for your video is given me hope again 🙂.

    A more common problem with these is that the spring that holds the ball bearing in place breaks and your bit will constantly fall out. This video inadvertently shows how to repair that problem also, except buy a new spring and don't put the old one back in. (I've tried bending the broken spring to make it work again.... it's got to be EXACT. Easier to just buy a new spring.)

    Used your technique and got the bit out of my Ryobi. Thank you! But when I put the ball bearings back in place (there are 2) the knurled ring won't slip down over them. I assume that the BBs must recess into little pockets in the center shaft ... is that correct? When I look in the holes where the BBs go, there are no pockets. Is there a way to hold the center shaft stationary so that the ring with the holes for the BBs can be turned to aligned with the pockets? Or have I got this concept wrong? Thanks!

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooops! I asked the right question to the wrong guy 🙄. The Ryobi is a little different … the ball bearings go into circular holes, not the slightly oblong holes, and don’t use a spring to hold them in place. I’ll have to rewatch a couple of other videos, but thanks for taking time to answer!

    Drill it out on a drill press.. Much easier

      Someday I hope to own a drill press. That would have been a great video as well!

    When mines broke I drilled into it and pulled it out with a screw and it twisted the bit and broke it

      Sweet that is great. I did not get to drilling it, but would have eventually. Thank you for your comments. It is always great to get different perspectives for the future.

    Maybe you can weld onto it

      @ThatFixItGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet you could. Knowing me I would ruin it if I tried. If I ever run into this scenario again maybe I will try. Thank you for the suggestion! Would make a good fix it video.

    Clamp the gun, drill into the broken but, then screw it out

    Could have just drilled the bit out with a different drill and saved yourself an entire day of agony of beating on the drill 🙄
