- My last flight of 2023 was an emotional trip to the Derwent Valley where I remembered the sacrifices made by the RAF 617 squadron during the second world war. Giles, Bill and myself saw some interesting things on the way to the dams and I also passed a significant milestone.
I am often asked about my aircraft, engine, wing and the equipment, instruments, cameras I use so I have listed links to everything I use below:

Another fantastic video...as usual.
Regards from Brazil
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome 👍 keep making the videos thank you 👍
Thank you. It’s been a tougher making videos over the winter but I’ll do my best. 👍
Awesome views Paul, great video
I need to get my hands on a two seater so I can take you up again. X
Awesome flight.
Thanks 👍
Lovely video, ❤🎉 love from South Africa, I hope to see many more videos like this
Thank you. I will carry on making videos as long as people keep watching and leaving comments like this. 👍
Another great vid 👍
100hrs, can't even imagine it😍.
Cheers
Thanks Patrick. I’m hoping to add a significant number of hours to the log book in 2024. 👍

Same plan with me, but 2023 was the same plan and that didn't work out so well for me 🤣
Another good watch Paul, a flight Id love to do one day!
Thanks Scott. This is definitely a place to stick on your must visit list. 👍
Just realised I didn't comment when I first watched this one. Cracking video (hence why I've come back to watch it again). A thought-provoking flight and well edited. Hope to see you soon at DM.
Cheers Dan. 👍
Dam good flight. Dam good video. Thanks for taking us along. Take care.
Glad you enjoyed the trip. It was one of the more memorable flights of 2023. 👍
@@paulieb796 When will you get your 9 wing? Was Giles flying his?
@wrdturkey my Nine wing has arrived in the UK. I just need to arrange a time to collect it. Giles wasn’t flying his Nine wing on this flight. I would never have kept up if he was! 👍
Nice view of that gorgeous blue kitfox outside the hangar at 2 minutes ish....
There are some lovely toys hangared at Darley Moor.
Really enjoyed that one Paul. I can’t believe you are able to phone each other. Brilliant. Enjoy your days off. K
We can mate. We just need to make sure we keep separation to keep the string tight 😉
@@paulieb796 😂
Great video Paul, nice and relaxed. Prompted me to check my SafeSky flight logs and the last time I flew the PB was the 8th October, gloveless as I remember? Managed to get 6 goes in a Quantum though since, albeit somewhat colder!
Spent an hour cleaning mould spores off the PB yesterday in sub zero temps - can't wait for some nice calm (and warmer) weather to get it back in the air.
Me too. I’m not a fan of the winter so I can’t wait for the weather to warm up a bit. 3 months without flying is way too long. 👍
When I was 18, 19, I was trying to keep the breweries working 3 shifts. At 20 I went in USMC. Got a free trip to SE Asia.
When I was 18, I was grateful for the breweries sinking too many beers at University when I should have been studying. Can’t remember much between 18 and 21! 👍
Just watched it all,
Awesome video and great to remember the brave guys from 617 Sqdn.
Thankyou. The Derwent valley is a bit of a pilgrimage flight for me. It’s a special place in which I can’t help becoming reflective and so bloody grateful. 👍
If you have not been yet, the Petwood Hotel is a wonderful experience. The officers mess of 617 during that time. Many artifacts from them. Helicopter landing only.
Simon, I’ve just been on their website and Petwood Hotel looks like an amazing place for stay. I might have to treat Mrs B to a night out! 👍
@@paulieb796 It is a wonderful hotel, a bit pricy for what it is, but the Mess room is amazing. Mention it to Giles. He's ex RAF same as me, same trade, different decades. I really need to start flying.
Great vid, Paul! 👌🏻 I make the same run from my base at Tatenhill quite often and it never fails to take my breath away just how low those brave boys had to get to the water when making their runs. It's lovely that you remember them as you do... as do I 🙇 I hope to see you up in the air again soon 🤞👍🏻
Thanks Kev. If I wasn’t relying on a single cylinder, two stroke engine, and sticking to the 500ft rule, I’d love to do that run at 60ft!! Do Tatenhill welcome SSDR flexwings? I must drop in if they do. 👍
@@paulieb796 I believe the official version is (last time I checked) that they don't, I'm afraid, however, things are changing all the time there, so maybe worth giving them a shout.
Love your videos. My oldest brother flew out of the UK during world war 2 with mighty 8th Air Force in a B17
Thank you. I got quite choked up when I started thinking about those brave pilots who sacrificed so much so that I can enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today.
Fantastic scenery Paul, dam buster training very thought provoking. A great outing for the three of you.
The Derwent Valley is an amazing and poignant place to fly. It always brings a lump to my throat when I fly over the dams. 👍
Cracking video Paul. I didn't expect to watching flexwing flying with tear in my eye 🥲
Thanks Andrew. I didn’t expect to get a lump in my throat either!! Still it seems only right that we remember what they did for us. 👍
Derwent Valley & Elan Valley ;)... Dont worry about the film, hes been renamed to 'Trigger'
Wasn’t he in Only Fools & Horses?
Paul great video!! Thanks for sharing! Where do I get my own Bivvy Bee tshirt??
Not long after I bought the BivvyBee from Flylight, I got a surprise package from them. Ben Ashman hade made up some BivvyBee t-shirts. Not sure if he still has any but worth an ask. 👍
Excellent vid. What kind of height was that above the dams? About 3,000ft?
I was at around 1000ft above the dams.
@@paulieb796 Nice.
Congratulations on 100 hrs PIC
Where did you buy your bar mitts?
Thank you Doug. Bar mitts are from Ozee. www.ozee.co.uk/shop#!/Ozee-Barmittens/p/1775826/category=506010
@@paulieb796 thanks 👍
Ha! Yep. Sounds like my communications... barely readable.
Shout louder 😁
