Definitely instructor material you are. My comment as an ex RAF aircraft engineer. With an aircraft that gas been in short term storage, don't just do the minimum Pre Flight check. Take your time over every single check. Do it the weekend before if you can so there is no pressure to get into the air.
Good advice. I did a service on my BivvyBee when the weather was unflyable so there was never any temptation to fly so I could concentrate on just doing the service.
Top tips Paul loads of common sense, as you know I’m new at this and I think about flying all the time and sometimes my imagination goes into overdrive, what if, what if, definitely squeaky bum stuff !!! I will definitely be going up with an instructor until I get my confidence level up a bit, can’t wait for the good weather and those golden hours again they feel like a life time away, great vids mate 👍
Some great tips there, well prepared and well presented. Your channel covers a variety of stuff now and this kind of thing is a great addition. Keep 'em coming that man. 👍😎👏
@@clearprop nope sorry Dan, Senior moment, or hypoxia!! Ignore my last transmission!! The problem I’m finding is that within 1 hr of publishing a video on TH-cam, I am bombarded with messages from about 8 different platforms. I am easily confused. 🫤
Like our Yoda of all things flex, you really are a natural at this. Good content, well presented, good vocal tone, slight regional accent to appeal to the everyman. You'll be fronting the One Show in no time.
Thankyou. I remember being quite apprehensive about returning to flying after my first winter break so I hope this video might help anyone in the same position. 👍
great video paul....some good pionters for anyone returning after a winters lay up......i haven't flown since sept so am looking forward to getting back in the air soon👍
Great vid mate im supposed to be flying this friday morning, didnt manage to fly in november. Still trying to complete medical form for 1st solo its still got me baffeled tho hope to meet you sometime for a chat. Shame Giles has to leave too .
I’ve not flown for nearly 6 months. I’m gonna have to watch this video again myself before I next strap myself in to the cockpit!! Agree about Giles. Darley Moor won’t be the same without him. 👍
You don’t know how easy you have it in blighty, I’ve had a king brown snake living in my flying suit, and red back spiders in my helmet. I suppose the message is don’t leave your gear at the hanger.
@@paulieb796 I fall into this category, 2 years now since I've been up. My instructor says I shouldn't have a problem flying as my skill level was very good. It's not the flying part I'm worried about, it's the landing 🤣. Cheers
My interest was raised with your headline: "Returning to microlight flying...". I've a PPL(M) with about 200 Hrs P1. My last log book entry is dated 06/08/16, and I'd be interested in re-qualifying, but I'm not sure what would be required, or who to ask. Any ideas? Grateful for any thoughts or advice.
I would suggest contacting the BMAA would be the best place to start. They are always very helpful and friendly. Failing that, the next best thing would be to find your nearest training school and have a chat with them. I’m having had any experience with the older PPL (m) license so wouldn’t want to give you any incorrect info. 👍
I took my first lesson in September 2017. I gained my license in June 2019 so just short of 2 years. However this can be achieved a lot more quickly if you have good weather and aren’t tied by work commitments. In terms of cost, I would estimate it cost me somewhere between £4k-£5k all in including written exams to qualify. Incidentally it took me 44hrs of instruction before I passed my GST. Hope this helps. 👍
Some great tips and what a nice day to get back to it
Thank you. I’m glad I took advantage of the weather. It’s rained everyday since!

It's an interesting topic and human factors plays such a big part in our actions.
Hi Giles, I've not seen anything from you recently. Have I missed them, or is it because you've not had any air under your wheels?
Certainly does. As an ex cognitive psychology student, it’s fascinating applying some of that theory to something practical like flying.

Thanks Dan. Oh and thanks for dropping off my T shirt. I will wear it with pride (probably on the next video). 👍
