How Purpose Earth's grant will support the HPP Laos project

Humana People to People Laos will activate 50 poor farmers in Khounkham District, Khammouane Province, to restore a degraded forest and promote community environmental protection.
Purpose Earth support will enable the project to establish a native plant nursery (with endangered hardwood and non-timber forest product species) and plant 15,625 trees on 7.5 hectares. Farmers will train in combining rattan and bamboo shoot cultivation and marketing with climate-smart agriculture to boost livelihoods and protect natural resources.
The new project will build on a nearby 3-year Darwin Initiative project tackling deforestation and rural poverty for 600 farmers across 3 districts and follow previous successful WWF and IUCN reforestation projects.
