You should have used shoe trees. It would have prevented so much of the creasing (unless you don’t mind that)
Yeah I think you are right
It’s interesting to see what well-worn boots look like without shoe trees. They all look smashed down over time. They have a lot of character for sure, but I’m going to keep using my trees, for better or worse.
My head just exploded when I saw the caption. I’m I the only one that likes to shine their shoes while watching Phil shine his shoes. Love the video’s Phil
Great video! Thank you for all that hard work you put into this for us! I like the way the Viberg Shell Cordovan and Grant Stone Brass boots in Tan Essex turned out!
Shoe trees, saddle soap and remove laces for more deep cleaning, but you only want to check the venittian effect, thanks for sharing
To anyone watching, make sure you actually clean your boots with a light cleaner or saddle soap before conditioning.
So many amazing boots! Great video man
I really like the lighter colored panels on the Florsheim shell wingtips (the possible Color #4). It really glows with warmth.
Great video Phil. More like my Horween leather boot collection. ;) Cheers.
First. Glad to see that I’m not the only one with a ton of shoes and boots. Mostly vibergs with some oak streets & RRL boots thrown in.
I feel like I have too many and I feel guilty for not wearing all of them. I will be donating many of these
@@AshlandLeather I hear ya. I’m lucky because they always do the Viberg sample sale here in NYC. My wife would never let me get away with $1,200 shell boots. Gotta get them at the sale only. Lol 😂
I like it so much😂
I would totally recommend you start using shoebags fore boots and shoes that you dont ware thos days. It seems like dust is the top problem. I know it is easy to dust off with brushing but it is hell to clean them in side. If you dont clean them before use your feet will just work in dust in side and act like sandpaper with time if you start to use them more often again. I love how those bright 1000miles look like. Lovely
Good tips here!
Half way through and had to pause to comment… enjoying the hell out of this watch
I appreciate that. This one took a bit of extra effort
I think the lighter color on the color 8 florsheims is fading from the sun. I see similar lightness on some of my older color 8 footwear.
Venetian is my preferred conditioner! What product would you use for a deeper conditioning?
Love the content! Especially the F G podcast!
Thanks for checking out the pod! For deeper conditioning I like my Tanner's Blend. I usually wash with mild soapy water, dry over night, then condition. Some people like saddle soap because it cleans and conditions at the same time. I like to have a little extra control over both so I chose soapy water+tanner's blend.
How about shoe trees tho?
I want to buy this shoe polish!
You're not afraid of the petroleum distillate solvent in Venetian Shoe Cream reacting with the shell cordovan?
I still don't know how to get Venetian in Europe with out paying +30e for shipping and import
What do you use to polish your shoes ?
I have been using VSC for a few years after you produced a video about it years ago. I use it nearly exclusively but whenever any of my shoes or boots are dirty (beyond dust buildup) I always use saddle soap to ensure VSC doesn’t do any unnecessary cleaning.
I would have preferred to see you condition the pairs that were particularly dry even after applying the shoe cream.
I think I show a before and after on each. Did I miss one you were interested in seeing? Can probably get you a photo or something if it would help
@@AshlandLeather For example: The Oak Street Cap-Toe Trench Boot Natural CXL, you say "these still feel pretty dried out" after applying and buffing the VSC, then say "I'm wondering if they actually need a conditioning" and "I still think it needs a little of something else", or on the Oak Street Trail Oxfords, you say "this still feels pretty dried out" after applying and buffing the VSC. Probably needed a conditioner, not just a cream polish.
It seems like you prefer cxl over veg tan for boots. Is cxl just more comfortable?
A few of these are veg. I find them to be comfortable. However I find the CXL to be most comfortable.
@@AshlandLeather thanks for answering, I got a few leather goods from you and now I’m going to pick up my first “investment” shoes from Grant Stone. I’m going to get cxI but now I have to decide between natural and crimson.
@@_Sunmaker_ if you need a push I suggest the natural
Maybe it was the dirtiness of the left boot, but I really like the improvement of the Grant Stone Dune Diesel. Also liked the Oakstreet Maryam Horsebutt - the venetian just seemed to make the color brighter and better without changing the “character” of the boot too much.
Do you use shoe trees at all? 😬
Whats the best way to get ahold of you about some purchases i made?
You can reach me at info@ashlandleather.com -- happy to help
I'm sure it's unnecessary, but I would have saddle-soap cleaned half of those!
Yep or wiped with damp cloth and let dry. Or used a water/suede shampoo mix to clean and let dry.
100% agree. Definitely needed some cleaning for most of these
Is black CHX actually brown in core like tee-core or is it black all the way through?
Horween makes it both ways. The Quoddys are struck through (black all the way through) and the grant stone is black on natural crust
@@AshlandLeather Oh so there is bouth! Cool. I saw people having worn down cxl and it goes bouth ways so i didn't knew what is what and i would love the pair in future. Thanks
I think it’s interesting how badly chrome xl creases
I strongly recommend shoe trees for this leather in boots
I thought it was just my pairs that have loose grain and creases but looking at you’re chrome xl pairs of boots it’s the same .
Don’t get me wrong I love it more when boots are beet up but do t really get the hype for this leather for boots .
Yeah the chrome xl lottery is a real thing. Also you have to put some trust into the boot maker to click nicer parts of the hide. Like his Wolverine 1000mile brown chrome xl creases so much worse than other more expensive boots.
@@jaredjantzi5915 Ya it seems pretty inconsistent.
I wonder if using straight up bison fat would work
Grant Stone calls this one: blah, blah... (our 84th ripoff of an Alden last/design made by our crack staff of .05/hr labor)
