    We have made KRAMER holsters from HORWEEN horsehide butts for over 40 years. HORWEEN makes the absolute finest leather on the planet, period! We have many clients who use our HORWEEN horsehide holsters professionally on a daily basis for decades and with a minimal amount of care they perform as well as the day they got them. Many many kudos and thanks to HORWEEN for continuing to turn out a superior product, the old fasioned way!

    Pretty awesome video. Its cool to start to understand how special the leather Horween makes is. Definitely makes picking up a pair of workshoe boots feel even more special. Hope we get more videos with Skip. Thank you Phil.

    very well presented. You asked all the right questions, with little interruptions. THe only thing I have not found out, is why is the shell not left whole for polishing.

    Awesome video. Really looking forward to when I get my hands on my Herbie in the workshoe butt.

    Wonderful conversation. Educational and insightful. Horse butt sounds like an excellent material option for Ashland Leather products. Aesthetically pleasing meets a little more rugged. Go for it. Thank you for sharing it!

    I and many people love the Dublin wax finish. Dublin workshoe horsebutt fat herbie would most definitely sell

    Historical question. Was the original "Patton Leather", Shell Cordovan? or some top grain thing with some fake shine. Please tell me it was not the latter!

  • @MrStreetninja007
    @MrStreetninja007 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    With this technically be double shell cordovan? Since its not shaved down

    • @AshlandLeather
      @AshlandLeather  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can see why you say this but the shells aren't exposed and smooth and the leather is finished for the grain side

      @@MrStreetninja007 My brother has been wearing a wallet made out of the bundle shown in this video. It has aged better than any leather I've seen. I think the extra density of the pit tanning and the shell makes it shine up extra nicely

    According to Hashimoto leather, Shinki tumbles their horsebutt. Does Horween tend not to tumble the horsebutt or is the lack of patterning due to not being fully veg tanned? I'm partial to Shinki horsebutts with shell in them. I anecdotally find the horsebutt with shell has either no pattern or striations. Dense honeycomb patterns rarely have shell and wide honeycombs have absolutely no shell.

      Horween doesn't tumble the workshoe butts but I think that they could. I love those honeycomb patterns and totally agree with you! Tumbling most leather does tend to make the grain appear more textured. I wouldn't be surprised if Shinki tumbles them

      @@AshlandLeather shinki definitely has tumbled shells. I'm not sure if they tumble every single shell though if that is the question. Hey Phil I just got my workshoe horsebutt fat herbie, and oh my God... this is by far my favorite leather of anything i own. I also bought a stone latigo right before this one, and the patina on it is amazing. I wore it for only ten days with a pair of double indigo and it's already showing a lot of crocking.
