Why I generally don't watch military shows, except as comic relief. First, the F-117 isn't built to take off from dirt air strips. It borrowed its landing gear and skinny little high pressure tires from the Northrop F-4, and they would blow at the first bump or sharp rock. Second, the F-117 never had a computer that could "automatically" land the plane aboard a carrier. So there is no ACLS or auto-throttle to engage. Third, since the F-117 is not carrier rated, there would be no way to calibrate the optical landing system for the right AOA. Third, that pesky landing gear issue: the F-117 main mounts aren't meant to take the impact of a carrier landing. And, finally, the F-117 doesn't have an arrester hook, so Harm's going into the barrier, probably on his belly after his landing gear collapses.
I loved the show, binge watching it now. In 2 seasons I've seen Harm do high altitude jumps, Seal team insertions, Secret service duty, Marine Force Recon training, under cover Army drill Sargent, rear seat carrier landing, and more.
Using an undersized heat sink would let the board overheat and fail. A missing heat sink would fairly quickly cause failure. Anywhere from seconds to a few minutes. Also don't forget the heat conductive paste in between the sink and component.
Meanwhile in real life, while bombing Yugoslavia: a Harrier jump jet designed to land on a carrier both vertically and using an arrester wire crashes while landing on USS Kearsarge and 2 F-117 get knocked out (1 downed, 1 written-off) with the type retired from combat service 7 years later...
Now how the heck are you going to land an F-117 on a Aircraft Carrier with out a tail hook or strenthed landing gear? I know you can do it with a C-130 because it has been done, but a Nighthawk.
The '117 has a hook as all USAF fighters do. It's for end of runway cable arrestment if the pilot aborts takeoff or brakes fail on landing (or drag chute doesn't deploy.) Needless to say not intended for carrier use.
@@RobertJones-ux6nc Air Force runways have the emergency cables on both ends of the runway. In a way they're right about not being rated for carrier landings, however they are used in emergency situations so the plane would be damaged no matter what.

Also, we are talking a tomcat driver switching to a experimental setup that went into the newer f15s. Not saying basic avionics are different. They aren’t. But the computer setup and aircraft does not fly like a f15 or a tomcat. The pilots I know that have flown them compared it to flying a brick on a knife edge.

There is no way this would happen. 1st...the F-117 is an Air Force plane...not navy. 2--The plane is so classified, that the Air Force would not even ask the Navy for help...they would send their own men to get it. 3---The F-117 does not have the tail hook to land on an Air Craft Carrier. The F18 is very similar to the F16 but weights significantly more due to all the reinforcement required to land. No Air Force planes in current use are designed for aircraft carriers. The navy employs specialized planes specifically for this.

JAG had a lot of over the top moment but honestly its part of why it was enjoyable.
Everybody knows that when your top test pilots aren't up to the task, the best course is to call one of the lawyers to do it.
