    Cool release from Arrma. We’ve been asking for a micro for ages. Hopefully if these sell well, we’ll get a 1/20th outcast brushless with full metal drivetrain. Would love a living room basher that has quick rotational capability for backflips off the little orange ramps

    Awesome 😎 That thing looks great on 2s Lipo and although a little sketchy, and out of control at high speed on 3s, it does look fun at 3s. I think along with the Gorgon, this may be another home run for Arrma. Such low prices on these two new durable, fun bashers, will surely have a ton of these under Christmas trees this year! I really don’t need the Grom since I have the full 4x4 3s granite. But that think looks so cool, and with the parts support of an established company like Arrma, this may make my Christmas list from Santa 🎅🏼 this year 🤩😂 Great informative, educational review. Regular guys like me appreciate people like you who do normal bashing vids that show us what to expect from these cars. Whether under out of box stock bashing conditions, or after kicka$$ hop ups like this Grom. 🤘🏼

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Madprax I completely agree and this is far from the first time they've done something like this. The people who write these listings are very good at implying things that aren't true whille not quite crossing the line to overt false advertising. It's kind of like with the new 8S EXB RTR. If you read the description it appears as though there's all kinds of new updated pieces in the car when the reality is it's just the old EXB roller with electronics in it and slightly updated tires.
      I have found that they will specifically advertise anything that's good so if it doesn't specifically say something like "metal internal differential gears" You can bet they're probably plastic.

    • @VetteWay2Fast

    • @DoRC

      Not entirely sure. The 2S pack I ran in the video also included the speedruns so that's going to knock down the time a bit. Remember that bad quality amazon motors have such loose tolerances that a smaller brand name motor can easily be more powerful. Everyone knows that plastic stub axles with screwed on wheels is a crappy non lasting design . Still plastic diff gears , plastic shocks , brushed motor...
    When you can get now a HBX 16889 pro for 100 bucks , slightly bigger 1/16 scale more capable for TT in the garden or grass etc , full metal transmission ( diff gears and drive shafts ), full brushless equiped , aluminium shocks etc and parts are cheap everywhere on the net ( many rebadged versions = easy finding parts ) , with proven robustness for some years ...
    Why would I pay so much for the new Arrma + optional parts + brushless combo ? it has really good points : metal geared servo , BIG BATTERY TRAY (weak point on the hbx) , hex hardawre screws , nice "mini granite" body shell ( hopping its not crappy pvc ) ,
    but not sure its worth the investment .
    😉

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The CVDs are actually metal. The stub axles are a hybrid of plastic and steel. They do have standard 12 mm hexes and The wheels attached using regular wheel nuts.
      The plastic differential internals are a bit disappointing however I have now run mine with a 60 amp brushless setup on 3S with some pretty heavy bashing and up to 40 miles an hour and the differential internals are still doing great. I'm kind of surprised by this but they appear to be built very well. This may be due to the design of the diff housing which is very beefy and holds the gears and really good alignment.
      The 16889 pro is a great car and was my go-to for a long time.
      That being said the Arrma has a few advantages. The tires are better, it handles better out of the box, upgrade ability is probably going to be basically unlimited both from Horizon and the aftermarket, you get a 2-year warranty and I know you said not to say it but parts availability is an important thing. Yes you can get parts for the 16889 but it can be hit or miss sometimes and I feel like sometimes you need to know a secret handshake to know which parts to buy since they're made by so many different manufacturers and there are so many different slight variations on everything.
      I do wish it had come brushless out of the box but for its size the brushed system does seem to have adequate power.
      It's also far far easier to work on.
      The clipless body system is nice as well though it is kind of a pain until you get used to it.
      Ultimately The Grom doesn't represent the absolute best value for money out of the box but the value is there and it is a really sweet platform!
