Appreciate this tutorial, really good. I used masking tape on the PCB and then a cloth tape, sounds good. I only did a layer of each though, this it would sound better with more. I have another one to do. Getting the case off, especially the front was the WORST with the clips.
Annnd the second one took no time at all, and the case was easy to get off on this one. Two layers of masking tape and two of cloth tape, made it a bit harder with the stand offs. Much the same results but does have a slightly better sound
You can get alot better results with foams and other dense materials. If you want big results use carmat (sound dampening foam used in vehicles) it's a very dense and thin material that will make any board much deeper if that's the sound you're looking for. Also changing out keychrons stock switches can make your board sound and feel much better, keychrons stock switches feel and sound subpar compared to other options.

Hi, you skipped how to get the top plastic cover off. I have removed the screws but this top section ain't coming off easy and it feels like it might break. Any tips? Have I missed anything?
Re watch, definitely didn't skip how it get the top cover off (1:34). It's just with clips though, if you use a spudger or credit card and wedge it in-between the top cover and th bottom housing and push you should hear some clips pop, do this all the way around the board.
Need help. Im with blue switches right now and i want to get a c2 but i don't know browns or red. No idea if im gonna miss the bump if go with reds, but i definitely don't want that click anymore. Yours sound amazing

That build is using gateron Browns which are a light tactile, I cant feel the bump at all once typing at speed. If you want to play it safe I'd go for browns or you can try out reds, if you hate the reds aslong as you get the hot swap version you can just replace them with a tactile switch.
I'm not sure I know what you mean. I'm assuming you mean a tool to pop the clips on the top cover? You don't need anything fancy just a thin plate to wedge between the plastic. old gift cards and guitar picks work really well but you can use anything that's a similar thickness to those.
I did, they're between the top housing and the bottom housing, just wedge a prytool or old gift card between the two housings and run it along all sides. You'll be able to hear the clips pop out.
bought a C2 on prime day. swapped the stock switches for holy panda knock offs from amazon. did the mods you listed in the video and this thing sounds amazing! better then my 200$ keychron. Highly recommend this!
The hotswap version's a godsend. I just wish the vanilla C2 let you change their altered keys back to pause/break, scroll lock instead of the useless Teams and lockout keys.
You did well on Both boards. I bet you did force break on the q1 because I didn't hear any case pinging. Also I believe q1 has linear switch...what switch are you using in q1? I am planning to mod a c2 for my friend but can you tell me where to buy the RGb hotswap version? I only found white led version on Amazon. Thank you.
I am using the force break mod, great observation! I believe I was using kenetic labs penguins at the time of recording althouth I am now using akko jelly blacks. you can find all configs of keychorn boards on the keychorn website: www.keychron.com/
Np! Glad it helped. It's a great budget board I'm sure you'll enjoy it, although I didn't find the gateron Browns noticablely tactile, and if you ever get new keycaps if they're not shine through the rgb won't be as bright as it would have been if keychron had made the rgb south facing
Your diagram is not accurate. My Keychron c2 had 3 more screws than you indicated. Also I don’t know why you showed the cover removal (the hardest part) sped up and off camera.

This is the hardest keyboard case to work on, Almost snapped the shell on two of them I worked on.
bottom portion is the hardest to unclip...
TBH i wanna swap out the C2s RGB PCB and such with the Retro C2 version so I can have the retro keyboard with RGB. I'mma use this and see how it goes!

How on earth do you get a credit card of some sort in the slot. Mine is just so tight, even nails have trouble splitting the chassis

The browns are blue's without the clicky sound. They are both tactile, but the blue's are 'clicky' tactiles.

Sounds alot better with third party switches, the stock reds/browns/blues have a horible sound profile with the c2/c1

yes! foam and tempest mod (tape on pcb) work on most keyboards you can open. sorry for the late response

Instead of a credit card, I used a guitar pick to get the housing off. Worked much better to get into those clips

It sounds alot better. My mic doesn't do an amazing job at picking up the difference though.
