    I know sorastro makes it look easy, but skin is no joke on a good day. getting to vermilisitude with green skin is an accomplishment. plus, unlike other models, people already have a firm idea of what the hulk character looks like.

    Back again :-)
    Forgot a simple, but effective tip for filling tiny gaps between kit pieces.
    I use liquid paper, applied with a cheap/old brush, and when it dries fully, it sands down to a beautifully flat surface, takes undercoat without any problems, and is a little cheaper than using varnish/super glue gel (My usual go-to method if the gaps are in very tight areas or on flatter surfaces where there's little surface detail).
    Thanks again, Mr S, and long may you continue your wonderful tutorials :-D

    Now THIS is a video I cannot stop coming back to, as it is just so beautiful, easy to follow, and inspiring beyond belief. The way you paint the shadowed areas is just amazing :-) That is one technique I will now definitely give a few tries (I have six of these Hulk figures, some now converted to Weapon H/Mentor and the World War Hulk armoured variant), as I want to really make them look as good as possible.Love that you did the faded denim on his trousers instead of the usual purple, as it really makes the model more personal in the end. I'll be using your wonderful shading technique on my Incredible/Red/Grey Hulk minis first, and then see how they'd be applied to all the new sculpted detail I've added to my converted Hulks :-) My masochistic levels are sky high right now after all the work I've put in converting my Hulks, but the pleasure can now begin with trying the new shading/highlighting techniques you teach in this tutorial.
    Thank you so much for your constant fountain of creativity/inspiration Mr S :-D

    So help me, every time I go to wet blend, most of the time I end up scrubbing the paint clean off of the miniature's surface--am I not applying enough paint or is it too thin, or am I bearing down too hard, or...?? I'm uncertain. I love that technique and am determined to master it. That Hulk looks more than ready to rumble!

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate! It can take a little practice, but it could simply be that you're brush is a little overloaded with water; you really want it to be "damp" rather than "wet" I'd say... :)

    Beautiful as usual! But I think your choice of matte finish highlights and shinier finish lowlights/shadows is backwards. Shine/gloss = literal natural/free highlights done with natural lighting rather than painting on colored highlights. I really don't understand why you don't just take advantage of actual ambient light to create your brightest highlights. Unless maybe you enjoy looking at your work in the dark, lol. Personally, I would tend to go for paints with a satin or eggshell finish for just the right amount shine for both base and highlighting coats. It is truly amazing how much a little bit of shine goes a long way in bring out the depth and detail in the final product. I discovered this for myself when I was working with polymer clay. Even a simple, marbled sphere changed completely when baked with a topcoat of clear gloss varnish. The only drawback that I can think of is that maybe a shinier full/overall finish would result in actually showing too much detail in your work, such as making brushstrokes more visible. Something to think about.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rabooey! I generally prefer a less-glossy finish in the highlights so I can enjoy full creative control over the placements and strength of the highlights, plus I enjoy the creative challenge of rendering different materials. I've allowed a slightly more glossy finish in the shadows however because - although it sounds counter intuitive - a touch of gloss actually adds to the depth in the darker tones. :)

      Hi! I don't have a video specifically about how to use the wet palette I'm afraid, but it sounds to me like you simply have a bit too much water on yours. After laying the paper down (and chasing out any air bubbles) you can use some kitchen towel to soak up excess water from the surface; it really shouldn't be slick wet. I hope this helps! :)
