Raymond,
I'm a bit confused by your question. what do you mean by "constantly saving an reloading each of the parts".
De nada! Gracias a usted por el comentario!
I have tired a zillion hair selection tutorials, and finally one that works. Can't believe it, I'm a definite follower, thankyou
sonjon1000 You're welcome!
Glad it helped you out, Eliphal!
it definitely can. but for complicated backgrounds, you can do a combination of color range and channels.
To get another image in your document, go to File > Place. Then select the image you want from your computer.
Hope this helps!
Thank you!
Thank You!
Thank you, eurossicial!
I have spent days looking at all sorts of pro tutorials and tried every possible technique. You're tutorial is hands down the one I would recommend for masking out crazy, unruly hair. Thank you!
+Simas Castillo You're welcome!
Thank You, Saber!
Definitely the BEST tutorial for masking hair I've seen on the Tube. Not too fast, not too slow and very clear. Love the filter tip at the end too. All the best!
Thank you!
Wonderful tutorial - the extra steps taken to improve the image after the Refine Edge process is completed are most useful. Thanks!
Thank you, Carol Ma
Thanks!
This is the best tutorial I have found about how to select hair. However, I have to agree, I wish we could see an example of selecting hair against a busy background
blacklistnr1, Yes! great catch on 9:55! you do have to lock the pixels! I had it on my notes and forgot to mention it! As you probably saw, I sort of messed up on that part, with the mask, and what layer to pain on.
And as for the layer and painting over her, the reason I left it on top is that the hair may have some color remaining from the original background, and painting over it will hide it.
What version of Photoshop are you in?
I've been at this for a long time and seen a lot of tutorials. This is one of the best. clear and to the point. Thanks very much.
Paul Allan You're welcome! Thank you for the comment!
You're welcome, Steve!
This is the best tutorial I have watched on hair extraction. Thank you so much!!
Thank you!
You're welcome, Sean!
I've been having a hard time cutting out dark hair with busy backgrounds and this is exactly what I Needed! So many use blondes for tutorials and not dark hair so I can't figure out how to mask with dark colors on dark backgrounds. Thanks
You're welcome, Unknown User!
first get all your images in one document (you can go to File > Place). Then add a layer masks one at a time to all the layers. remember, if you paint with black on the pixels it will hide them, if you paint with white, it will reveal them. Just paint way what you dont need and use the move tool to move around your layer and place it where you want it. Hope this helps!
You're welcome, Robert!
Kent, It all depends on your image, but if it's a clump that it's not necessary, just mask it all out! you don't need to keep all the original hair. Most pros never do! Also, try painting it brown, like I did in the video, that might help. Good luck!
After seeing several explanations on how to select hair, yours is, IMHO, the best both in method and explanation. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Hi,
I use photoshop for years, and this tutorial is one of the best i've ever seen.
Thank you, I appréciate your efforts to give us detailed lesson ;)

Thanks. Great tutorial.
rayaquino You're welcome!
Nice instruction as always. Loved the tip of duplicating the layer to increase the intensity and filling a layer with a color then painting a mask in white. Brilliant! Thank you!
+Frank Hernandez You're welcome!
Thanks for this tutorial I was having extreme difficulty with hair images at least your option means I don't get too frustrated. I'm such a newbie!
Man, I keep coming back to this video. You posted it in 2013 and this STILL holds up.
Watching this in 2018 and this is by far one of the most intelligent ways to remove with very little gadgeting. Excellent!
Thank you, Vaughn!
Yup, it is. as a photographer, compositor, or artist, you should always try to make your life easy. Why use a busy background if your going to mask hair. Think of green screen in movies. They make it easy for the artist to "key out" the actor by using a solid color.
wonderful Jesús just wonderful! I used to dread hair selections but after this no more!! thanks for sharing.
I ve seen numbers of hair extract tut but this is the best one ever
+원민준 Thank you!

No problem :), thanks for the video!
Awesome!! I spent hours trying to make a perfect cut using "refine edge" tool without success, but this is the holly grial!!
Edgard Calero Glad it helped!
Great tutorial, just what I suggested. Your techniques are excellent. I can't wait to have the opportunity to use the techniques you showed when I work in Photoshop CC. Thanks again, great job!
So pleased with myself after trying this out on a wee test photo and surprising my wife by showing her a photo of herself in Basel when she has never been! :-) Thank you so much!
Michael Gallagher Awesome! Glad it was useful!
Great tutorial! I have just subscribed to your channel today.
This man has audible voice and explains the tutorial so well. In this tutorial, he did not just dive into the channels. He even explained what a channel is like when dark turns to black. On the other hand, when he used a dodge tool with range selection of shadow, he even showed that it will only affect the dark areas and not the white/highlights.
You have explained it so well. It was easy for me to follow along. I'll be checking your site, too. Really, great job!
Thank you so much, Cherie!
I was looking for an answer how to select hair and it took me three days to find your tutorial. I am glad I did. Add some key words in your description to save our time. If I found this earlier I would have saved my precious time!
Thanx, really useful info from your tutorial it moved a little quick but that's what the rewind is for. I've had trouble getting the hair to look that good.

This is an amazing video and I really appreciate you creating and publishing this tutorial. There is no "easy way to mask hair--until you learn." That said, the two methods for masking were simple and easy to follow. Then the final tip on using photo filters to draw the image together really went over the top. Thank you!

Very nice tutorial. You can also use layer style by double clicking on the mask layer and use I believe inner shadow and chose the color of the hair to bring out more strands of hair. Either way or use both
