Can You Beat Pokemon Without Ever Attacking First?

- I played through Pokemon Platinum to see if you could beat the game without ever attacking first. This means I am not allowed to attack my opponent before it attacks me in the same turn. Is this possible, or is the game set up in a way that going last is not realistic?
i like how this is focusing on the strategy of making sure you move last, rather than just using some sort of hack that forces you to move last every time
Was thinking the same thing
Same. A nuzlocke with the hack would be interesting but this way of doing a challenge is just as if not more interesting since there’s more pre planning involved
Same! I was expecting the latter, but the video ended up being far more interesting.
That would have been better imo
I think that makes this video more unique rather than paying someone to make a rom hack.
Minus speed nature, 0 speed iv? I can do that. That's basically every mon I get in a nuzlocke
that's every pokemon i get in general💀
You nuzlocke? That's pretty cool. Do you plan on making content out of it?
@@rundas2141
Not everyone plans to make videos of things. Some people are just happy doing things for the sake of doing it, and not sharing their experience.
@@eddiemate That's a very obvious thing. I was asking the man if he had plans on sharing his experience, so I would help out by suscribing.
@@eddiemateyeah that’s why he asked lol
I will not stand for the slander on the underground. That was all I'd do for hours with my friends when I was younger.
As a kid, I just spent hours down there alone. I loved digging up items.

Okay that use of trick room was genius
It's not

I was skeptical of the new style of video at first, but I've really warmed to your personality in the last few videos. Keep up the good work!
Needs to work on the nerd neck though.

I have not watched yet, but I am ready for Lagging Tail and Iron Ball strats
bro did not use lagging tail even once
Yeah I was gonna recommend lagging tail I’m surprised he didn’t use it
The only way he could have gotten a Lagging Tail before post-game would be as a 5% chance of Lickitung holding it on Route 215. He wouldn't be able to use a move like Thief to get it from them, since a wild Lickitung holding a Lagging Tail would go last in its priority bracket, so he'd have to catch every lickitung to see if it had a Lagging Tail (he wouldn't be able to just lead with a pokemon that has Frisk and then run away from the battle if it doesn't have an item, because Frisk is also unobtainable before post-game). Technically possible, but likely not worth it since he was able to get the guaranteed Full Incense with much less work.
I was curious how this would be possible, and seemingly completely forgot about revenge. Makes me want to do an iron ball - revenge playthrough myself!
I love that part of the challenge is also figuring out if it's even possible to only ever move last and how, let alone win the game that way. It's so fun when a challenge is about using your knowledge of the game and its mechanics to strategize like this.
Cue Mr Incredible: Make it close! Go for second!
something i don’t know if you took into account but absolutely had an effect on this challenge was the EVs on the pokemon you grinded on in the early game. Because they had to be faster than you, you HAD to get the speed evs they give you, which made you faster than you would have wanted. (EX. you battled starly with geodude for mars, which actually made you even faster than if you grinded on something else)
Now you know what it feels like to try and make Lurantis work.
i love that you tried to do this challenge in the slowest visually mainline games (diamond version)
Ah yes, doing this challenge in Gen 4. Notoriously some of the slowest Pokemon games. There's a joke there somewhere, but I'm too 'slow' to piece it together.
In terms of slow pokemon nothing tops the curse of alola.
The ending line was delivered perfectly 😂
Let’s go, Glaceon is actually useful for once
I haven't really enjoyed playing the latest generations of pokémon, but honestly watching challenges like these makes you appreciate how complex and how many ways there are to play pokémon games! Amazing work :)
This is a cool concept, but the issue is that having access to all those tools makes the cost of overlevelling far less severe in the late-game.
I think a level-cap approach would make things more interesting. One of the main downsides of always move last is taking an extra hit from each battle, but that becomes less relevant if there’s a massive level gap to hit and take hits much better.
Stuff like Iron Ball and Full Incense are still very cool for adding flexibility, and they’d be fair if you can’t overlevel. But if you can, things get a little trivial.
I agree with this feedback. Overleveling your pokemon really makes any challenge trivial. A level cap is a must. Also set mode versus switch, to prevent riskless/free switches.
Sure, but are you going to do it? I understand and it still makes for an entertaining video
@@yukiiiiii3816
As in whether I personally would do it?
Kind of, I’ve been doing something similar after taking inspiration from this challenge.
What I’ve been doing is a HGSS level-capped nuzlocke with the added rule that if my pokemon moves first in a turn, it is unsuable after the battle ends, which I call a “speed death”.
Though of course, it’s just a personal unrecorded run.
yeah agreed. the second half of the video was kinda uninteresting. still cool to see all the silly tactics and i do like the video. but a level cap wouldve been cool
I see this more of an informative video rather than a proper challenge tbh, it showcases that it is possible without adding extra rules, once it's established that it is more rules can be added
This is an amazing idea, definitely made me consider trying a different generation for myself
super interesting! I was expecting a lot more first turn switches, but you did a great job using different strategies!
Only 39k?? Dude this is amazingly edited and you have a great personality and not just “do this and this”
Easily a new sub!
Great end joke, made even better by the abrupt cut off right after instead of an outro.
Great video, I’m pretty sick right now but this made me smile! Definitely gonna look at your other stuff. I love challenge videos where the goal isn’t just “can you still win” but more “how do we actively play this game in a way that it doesn’t want you to play.”
I thought in the double fight you might just keep switching out and letting Chansey do the work 😂
Love the red & blue jacket btw!
funnily enough I personally got stuck on that specific fight in recent challenge where I couldn't attack, and the chansey literally can't solo that fight. It can only use its single attack egg bomb 10 times, and with its horrible attack, that isn't enough to beat the entire opposing team, especially if silcoon uses harden
@@Viperio_19 well yeah; Cheryl explicitly needs your help to cross the forest because her pokemon aren’t strong enough to get through, doesn’t she?
This video popped in my recommended about two weeks ago (conveniently when I started playing Pokemon again for the first time in years!) and since then, I've watched nearly every video on your channel. You have some of the most entertaining Pokemon videos on the platform, and I'm excited to watch more in the future! I can say without a doubt that your channel has really kept my enthusiasm for continuing to play the games, and I'm hoping to finally beat one after playing for nearly 20 years! Keep up the great work!!
Another amazing video as always! Loved the challenge idea and the creativity here. The fast Pokemon in the E4 was hilarious
Challenge is to move last.
Trains on Pokemon that give Speed EVs.
bro is the most polite pokemon player, letting everyone go first
Your videos make me smile, i love Pokémon challenges but they are all usually the same. But these are Unique and i love ur jokes & commentary. Ur awesome
Ah what a fun video. Your stuff has been so high quality and enjoyable to watch lately. I really appreciate that you didn’t just hack the speed stat, you explored priority as a mechanic! Looking forward to more creative videos in the future!
You give off the same energy as the "My wife's boyfriend just brought me a Nintendo Switch" dude
I love how he's trying to go slow in the slowest region
i was surprised that intentional paralysis was never useful in the early game
Your Videos are Always banger But this one is even better ❤
So creative and actually a Challenge in the Beginning :D
As always, very creative video, tons of research and planning involved! Loved the twists there in the end (elite 4)
I wish this used the “Hardcore” Nuzlocke rules.
Other than that great video
Isn't there a lagging tail in platinum?
4:30 We need a 10h version of this
14 minutes in but I really expected Bronzor to be much more involved in this run. Anything that doesn't have negative priority gets wrecked by an Iron Ball boosted Gyro Ball. Add in Steel-type resistances and heatproof and you'll sweep
SPOILER WARNING
I completely forgot about Trick Room🤯 Bronzor could've been MVP
spain in the house keep with good content, my friend
I'm always excited to watch your new videos, another fun one!
I like the way only halfway into the video he was in eterna forest but then he just zoomed through the rest of the game
Very cool challenge.
Great! Loved the variety of tricks. I thought you might go for a Pokemon with Stall as well.
only sableye gets stall, and that’s unobtainable with a gba sapphire cart inserted
Hey now, I love the underground!
Even as a kid with literally no friends I enjoyed the underground just for the digging minigame.
Turtwig is my favorite so the love he gets from here is amazing ❤️
Very nice and interesting challenge! It required a lot from the runner. A lot of knowledge. You even used trick room in a different way, that was nice to see.
That Cynthia strat, man, good stuff
Pretty cool challenge! If you do this in other gens, it would be cool to see added rules like level caps and set mode
looking at this video i wasnt thinking itd be too interesting, but it was actually very enjoyable to watch, hope to see more!
ps: the ending was hilarious btw
Challenge aside, it's nice to see Glaceon get to actually do something. Being a pure ice evolution that's locked that far back in the game makes it really hard to get into teams, especially when there's 6 other ways to evolve your Eevee way before then.
The title of this video makes it sound way less interesting than it actually is. Great video idea!
trash cloak wormadam could've been a real big help vs. gardenia. bug bite is super-effective + STAB, and its steel-type lets it quad resist grass moves and have an immunity to roserade's poison sting
i'm not just saying this because wormadam is my favorite gen 4 mon i promise
This was such a crazy weird run. Love your runs and how novel they are ✌️
Ah this is the kind of stuff that's great to see in new challenge videos.
I was wondering why I hadn't seen you before just to realize you were also responsible for the great getting as rich as possible in Pokemon.
I am curious what sort of challenge you can do for a spin off title though. It seems like a fun idea.
Picking Diamond/Pearl for the going slow challenge? *chef’s kiss*
Love that he chose gen 4 with slow health bars
I thought this was going to be some mod that makes you move last, but this is much more interesting
Another banger! Cool idea for a video.
0:52 Fyi, there are sisters and probably enbies here too 💙
🙋🏼♀️
There are dozens of us!
Haven't watched yet but is lagging tail a thing?
"No. You go first. I insist"
I feel like the title and Thumbnail are underselling the challenge by a lot. I understood the title as "can you beat pokemon while stalling the first move against every opposing pokemon". If I'd known what this challenges core is, I wouldntve hesitated to click on it as long as I did.
I feel like at least mentioning something like "minimum//low speed stat run" in the thumbnail could help sell the idea of the challenge better ^^
But great video, cheers!
skill issue
Is your pronunciation of Croagunk a bit or is that actually how you think it should be said?
let me spare you the watch: yes its possible. Moving slow is the whole identity of some pokemon.
I just realised that the wild Pokémon that you *can* grind against are also the ones likely to give Speed EVs.
I love you're unique runs please keep it up.
Bro somehow nonchalantly makes the greatest jokes ive ever heard with a straight face every single time, I dont understand it
After he said the intro I was thinking it would get really easy after getting the lagging tail if it’s in this game
Randomly stumbled across this. Really good content
Good video. Love your channel ❤️
>slowest pokemon games to play the slow move challenge
I don't know if you'll ever see this but I have a suggestion: "Can you beat any Pokémon game without using items at all?"
Rules:
- No catching pokémon, since you'll have to use a pokeball, which is an item
- No using healing items, you need to rely only on Pokémon Centers for healing
- No TM teaching, since TMs are items
- No held items allowed as well
Exceptions:
- Mandatory Key Items (for the sake of progressing)
- Mandatory HMs (You're free to use these moves in battle, since moves are not actually items)
This video was amazing, really funny and very interesting. Absolutely loved it.
I have always liked your unique challenges :) neat
Of course he had to do this challenge in Generation 4.
this is so cool!!! its such an interesting and original concept, i really enjoyed watching this and following along!!!
...also cant say ive ever heard anybody pronounce croagunk as "cro-a-gunk" but i guess theres a first time for everything LOL
Glaceon is useful in a challenge for once. I love it :)
Love the creativity here. Subbed
Good vid 👍
Great video! But i do wonder why you didn't get a guts machoke since you could have just pre paralyzed it on a static pokemon with a negative priority move and have it's speed cut in 4 and get an attack boost, you'd be able to have a level 100 machoke from the daycare and it would have like 10 speed and 1 shot everything.
cool challenge, so many weird roadblocks and "puzzles"
Nice video, but maybe change up the music. Would feel much more intense for e4 or other interesting sections.
“Fighting 5 trainers back to back with just 2 pokemon is impossible”
Mah dry bread - enters the chat
12:10 ain't no way, I was playing Platinum on my 3ds extracting gems in the underground when you said that... I feel ofended since I think the underground is really cool 😭
If this video was uploaded by someone else, I wouldn't have clicked it because I thought the answer was obviously yes.
But damn, the games REALLY don't want you to do this.
With that double battle in the forest…if the challenge is to never move FIRST then technically you could have just moved second instead after the Pachirisu. Your run your rules of course, just thought that was interesting.
that ending joke was very funny
You could've also gotten 6 lagging tails from Lickitung on route 215
You're a big ol nerd for all this. Subscribed.
Love your videos, but please change the music throughout the video. Videos that are longer like this start to get tedious when it’s the same one music piece looping endlessly
Well specifically for Platinum Pokemon like Snorlax, Steelix, Bastiodon, Gastrodon, Quagsire, Bronzong, Spiritomb, Sudowoodo, Probopass, and Rhyperior all clock in at base 40 speed or lower, and each varies from decent to quite reliable. I'd take the wager that yes in fact you can. Wormadam does as well but I mean it's Wormadam so...
I was kinda hoping that stall sableye would be used for once. It's a dual ds slot pokemon with sapphire.
Alexa, play “Speed Tie” song on loop
Idk about Pokémon, but in Doodle World (a Roblox game inspired by Pokémon) there's a held item that makes you attack last, and moves that are better when you go last. I actually had a Doodle that I did that with.
im p sure there is, lagging tail
bro how did Foresight work in a run AGAIN
foresight is secretly cracked
This is fun, I wonder if this challenge is possible in other gens
Im commenting this at the start of the vid so idk if he uses it or not...but i feel like revenge would be really op during this challenge since its much stronger if you go second, same with counter
At long last!
Y-
you see what i did there
Fitting to do a challenge about being slow in gen 4
I got a challenge idea:
Can you beat Pokemon Platinum using only Non-damaging moves? Let me specify the rules:
-Moves that deal damages are forbidden (Basically any move with a base power, OHKO moves, Set damage moves, as well as moves like Bide, Counter, Mirror Coat and the likes, or else, this challenge would be a cakewalk).
-Any other moves will be allowed, moves such as Will-o-wisp, Confuse Ray, Curse, Recover, Leech seed, Toxic, Poison Powder, Sweet Kiss, Protect and Double-Team to name a few. You'll have to rely on status conditions, RNG and bulky pokemons for that run
Sableye: finally!
