I almost got this song down, the only part that is holding me up is the measure that has a 3 on the B and 0 on the D. I just can't make it sound right. Is it played at the same time or in quick succession like the other ones?

  • @danieldavid4822

yes your right there was't a good version of this on BH..although there is a Bela one.. I never liked or thought that Am forward reverse roll was finished off right.. just didn't like it..moving into the D.. so add a 3 on 2 a D after the E (2 on 1) of the Am roll. so 2 , 1 , 2, 5, 2, 1, 2, 2 on 1st (E ) then the 3 on 2 (D) and if your more adventurous ... keep going on to the 2 on 3 the (A) and then open 4th D. voila.. I've tweaked more in other spots. peace.

Close up on banjo would be nice. But, it's your choice. I learned the phrase square roll. It must be called other names.

Indeed I remember trying to learn this online, nothing decent for it, got the Scruggs book, but I'm not a boomer so books don't work too well for me. Ma autisms. Anyway, I agree with the thumb leading whenever possible. Like Natchez trace that 2nt part I guess the chorus or whatever. It's a index leading i.t.i.m but the next time it plays later in the song it's thumb leading, sounds 100x better. But I think that was purposeful to build it up the index leading is smoother first go round. I thumb everything sort of too much but it's what I like, single finger style.
    Great lesson

@@RickyMier hey man just something popped in my head, I know your more into performing then the nuts and bolts. And I think that's best for you your potential could go a little further that way. But it would be nice to know a little of how you setup your banjo it's a nice tone, I know Bela some say tune his head to f#. But I see a lot of information saying it sounds tok muddy and difficult to play with other instruments that loose. Bridge size weight would be nice to know. Tailpiece setup. Just the basics to your tone would be cool

@@RickyMier every song is broken down part by part, every note, it's syncopation, speed. I've learned so much from her. If you did something like that it would absolutely be a killer product. Say 3 or 4 different songs, ranging from beginner to advanced.

I notice you're playing higher on the fretboard with a capo, but the tabs don't reflect that. Do you happen to have a tab to show what you are playing in this video (on patreon maybe?)

I think to that even though Earl is credited with creating the 3 finger roll, he still came out of the 2 finger style so maybe it's just old habits. 🤷‍♂️
