  • Another beautiful day, another beautiful opportunity for Secret Esoteric Wisdom of Banjo Liberation.
    This lesson adapts Line Cliches to banjo playing.
    By seeing Line Cliches as a single moving voice inside a roll, many spontaneous compositional ideas can stem from roll based playing.
    My latest album, The New Age Connection is available today.

    This should be a lesson to those brainy 'jo teachers and players who say rolls are artificial, only apparent, and merely derived from reverse engineering the playing of the masters. Rolls combined with harmonically constructed shapes and intelligently and intentionally chosen moving notes create actual melodies and specific effects. You're teaching stuff I've never seen anyone else present and doing it in a way that seamlessly combines theory and application. I need to smack that Patreon button.

    Dude I been waiting like every 5 minutes refreshing since last vid lol. Couple things
    1. Amazing, rather then just some licks this is way deep musical instruction for the instrument and music itself for covering and writing. I mean I like learning runs and blues licks too. But this is killer, very high value instruction. Keep it coming. Thanks for sharing as well as your own songs giving up the secrets too.
    2. Why is it the 69 chord. Lol, also maybe I belong in that Berklee place because after your playing my seats wet and I'm a dude, I just don't know anymore. Glad to be in the last safe place to make jokes like that banjo community is a fine place to be
    3. Unlike mr.earl buying tigers with his stimulus check I got a little and a little time. Looking to purchase some banjo books. What are the top ones in your opinion? Maybe one day I could get a lesson with you too that would be cool

    • @RickyMier

      That's flattering man!
      1. I'll do a vid that will be more similar to runs and blues licks in a video called Motivic Development, probably after my next vid which will be Back Up.
      2. lol the 69 chord is a joke. It's actually an Eb6 chord, but with the F that happens on the sub melody it becomes and Eb69 chord
      3. Books, dude get Bela Flecks Picking Styles. It's a 6CD set with tab and it changed me. I'm happy to give you a lesson!

    This piece has the potential of becoming one of the mostly played pieces in the banjoworld.... This is timeless just like Foggy Breakdown! The only thing I will change is that harmonic on the 10th fret of the 5th string. I never sounds loud enough. I play it natural on the 17th fret of the 1st string. Hope you don´t mind! YOU REALLY CHANGED MY BANJO LIFE WITH THAT PIECE! Thank you so much for sharing. When my Trio performs again I will perform it in my next concert.

    • @Violanjo
      @Violanjo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your harmonic sounds great, but I can´t do it loud enough.... I started writing an accompaniment part for violin and cello, since I perform with those. But that is challenging since they should stay in the background always and never disturb the banjo. The cello will follow your electric bass part more or less. And sometimes the line in the banjo is doubled. By the way what note is the electric bass playing in bar 33 and 34? Sounds like G?
