Although BMW fans are losing their minds right now, I belive the new 1 series will be very sucessful. Thanks to FWD the 1 series offers more space and due to the removal of the 6 cylinder engine, the new 1 series is more efficient. Also keep in mind that most people who buy a 1 series generally don't want a sports car, so 4 cylinder FWD makes a lot of sense. Trust me BMW didn't pay me for this.

Very good review. I really like the looks of this BMW 1. I am glad that BMW is not using hard plastics in the 2nd row door paneling, like many others do in this segment of hatch.
Without the RWD the USP is gone. It's now 'just another' hatch with the same proportions as every other hatch in this class. Personally I'd now rather have the A Class or Mazda3, or alternatively a slightly used real BMW with RWD.
I’m really interested at buying 118i variant since my annual mileage is around 9-10K kms which makes diesel options unnecessary to go for. However, as always dual cluth transmission is a big question for my side. Does someone have in town experience with new 118i? Does it feel jerky especially at initial movement? Thanks a lot.
Awesome review, thank you, Thomas. Frohe Weihnachten to Autogefühl staff. The new 1 series is just too expensive in Europe. For this market segment, the price might be the most important factor.
This is the logical next step for Volvo V40 lovers, which became obsolete and that class has been discontinued. I'm one of them and I really like my BMW-1 so far.
I really don't like the exteriors. The front is basically the same of the x2 or 2 series active tourer, which are not exactly low sport-ish cars. The back is almost a copy of the focus. This added to the fwd no wonder why it's almost impossible to spot one in Italy. The only good aspects are the new interior that are finally refreshed and the more space, but to compensate the biggest selling point of the older one (rwd) they should have done way better
