In that sense, his 'inappropriate' speech reflected his consistency & integrity TO the comedic character he created. Norm's comedic brilliance 'expected' the audience to be mature enough to get this distinction. But, through his comedy, he was always, ever so slyly, poking fun at the ridiculous absurdity & increasing incapacity of the public to not take themselves so damn seriously. He did not do this to offend.anyone, but rather to make decent people (who know better) to give themselves a break & enjoy the sarcasm of a truly good-nature life. 😄😆 It's nothing like Don Rickles' truly offensive use of racial put-downs & the delivery of them. That sh*t, at least to me, is wincingly offensive. Rickes was absolutely brilliant, his mind so sharp & quick on his feet w/o the racial nastiness. Norm's is totally light-hearted yet brilliantly (& in fact very thoughtfully) conceived). But, in this regard, not the case with Rickles' lazy schtick. Norm's act doesn't hurt our moral decency. But Rickles' does. If LGBTQ+, women, mentally 'disabled', dwarfs, et al, can't sense this difference, then, IMHO, their sense of self-identity is, dare I say, short on maturity. It can be argued, then, that Norm's comedic character & that character's outdated speech is, in fact, a brilliantly sly way to actually poke fun of the outlandishness of both such speech AND thus the outlandishness of p.c. strangulation & censorship. In an inverse way, I'd say, it assumes that most peole are decent; and thatnthey do NOT & would NOT harbor the meanness to demean anyone who is socially marginalized or otherwise. This speaking as someone who is a member of socially 'marginalized' groups. And Iaugh like hell at Norm's character & speech. And where I neither have the inclination nor need to harm & humiliate any person of a 'minority' proup. In fact, the very opposite -- nut not through p.c.speech, which often conceals someone's actual character & unspoken prejudices. Which is, IMHO, rampant among many white persons. So, go, Norm!
