I use both. I don't mind using both. I bought a M1 Air for university and it's been a blast, while boasting a PC with good specs at home to program and game. Both do the job I bought em for, both work fine. The OS has never been a contention point for me.

For me it's definitely Windows because of the choice between different brands and the better interoperability between devices from differents brands (e. g. Android Phones)
@damianwojcikiewicz3951 I am a Producer and a 3D artist. I built myself a ROBUST PC and it runs on Windows. I love the *flexibility* of choosing each and every component and thereby upgrading each and every component with my Choice of manufacturers.
I have been a windows user since 2004, when I was in university. I once tried macs, but I could not Get used to it and I switched back. I think it depends on what you are familiar with and what suits your needs. Windows offers many choices and customization options, which I like. Macs have a more closed ecosystem, which is one of the reasons I don't use them. For example, windows allow me to use different hardware and software combinations, while macs are more restricted and expensive.
ecosystem is a big myth not many people use it in my opinion btw i use linux and that thing smoothly integrates with all the platforms and all the foss apps are both windows and mac compatible
@@Lantern20 linux does not smoothly integrate with any platform if it did then it would be the best OS ever but the reality is most apps and software cant run on linux without some sort of "fix" or workaround. I use arch linux and even i know that it pales in comparison for anything outside of programming and IT.
@SAMSONICSCOMP what you would say for computer science student, wants to do code more, to go with windows cuz the software are easy to install or go for MAC

Moved to windows recently (for work) after long time being mac user and am very happy with the move. Windows 11 in particular is very snappy and windows power tools makes it more powerful and productive. Being an Office 365 user, windows plays very nice and Android (Samsung Z Fold 3) integration is its finest. I have another laptop for the geek in me and it is running Linux (Mint). 🙂 Old hardware but Linux don't care. 😉
@dirtyharry1881 On Samsung phones in settings you will find option "Link to windows" under connected devices. Also, this is inbuilt on all windows OS now. You can search and open link to windows on your windows laptop and it gives a QR code to add your phone (Samsung or Google). If you point your Phone camera to QR code, it takes you to enable the option to "link to windows". Once connected, you will get all notifications on windows laptop and you can choose which you want and which you don't. You can also access your phone interface and any app on your phone from windwos laptop. Also, you can sync your contacts if you want and enable instant hotspot on your phone. So, when you are outside and open laptop, you laptop will connect to your phones hotspot without you doing anything. It is very seamless and you will enjoy the experience. There is no Dex here. It is seamless than iPhones and mac.
i've been using windows for almost my whole life. i don't remember the last time i had a blue screen of death. Those things used to be an issue back then. In the last decade or so i don't expect a lot of people experiencing that unless you're running unsupported software on your machine. And the reason you see a lot of those on youtube is become there are a lot of people using PCs world wide compared to MACs hence the result.
@@aa-kh9ex My previous MBP (13'' Intel 2020) had one Thunderbolt port that stopped working after 3 months, a second TB port that went off and on intermittently and then after a year or so the TouchBar started flickering. I have used windows since ever but last week My cousin was traveling and he left his M1 MacBook air with me, this machine is incredible. the weight, the battery, the speed, it's just unbelievable
M1 and M2 chips are amazing if you do computationally demanding computing like graphics and video, plus software companies don't need to design with all the possible hardware variables that come with windows. This lets them really rev up the performance on Mac, but with day to day stuff, Windows lower cost and decent performance is the winner. So if you make media, go Mac. If you don't Windows is fine and hey, Android phones also do everything an iPhone does for way less money and your not trapped in the Apple world of expensive accessories and online services either. This review should have also considered that aspect in the which is better decision.
@@ReidVV Yep, the review was made from a position of a video editor, so for those, Mac is an excellent choice. But Windows is cheaper, so if you don't need smooth and fast editing, then one might as well save the money for something else.
I prefer Windows because every time I use macOS it feels like you're being forced to buy more Apple products to use it properly. Apple also actively blocks workarounds that create synergies between the Mac and a non-Apple product.
@@goobfilmcast4239 There is a big difference between favor products and working with them exclusively. You can use an iPhone with a Windows computer, even with the Phone Link app. Btw. Apple is the company that actively blocks access to and from other brands' devices, not Microsoft.

The user experience changes a lot when using Microsoft PowerToys on Windows 10 and 11, adding much of the same handy features that macOS has like spotlight (cmd+spacebar) and quick view. Working on both a MacBook Pro 16", a HP/Windows 13" laptop and Windows gaming PC I don't have to switch between getting used to the CMD and CTRL keys because of the many keyboards that support both and have a physical switch on them to switch between macOS, Windows or even Linux keyboard layout.
If you're a gamer, there's really no choice, you're running Windows. A Windows PC is either your only computer or in addition to your Mac. Gaming on Mac has always been limited and continues to be.
Hopefully, the Game Porting Toolkit will start to change that. I want a Mac Mini for music production and I’d love to eventually play , Half-life Alyx, Squadrons, Cyberpunk 2077, etc on it!!!! … using my Quest headset to play VR.
I would never use a pc for gaming . Such a hassle and so many settings and things you need to setup . Just get a ps5 or a gaming console and plug and play .. All the latest games are just more fun on a console .. I don't get why anyone will game on a pc with all the hassle @@whitegoodman7465

I haven’t tried it personally, but I’ve seen videos of people running Cyberpunk on the model that I purchased without issue.
Thank you very much for this clear analysis and for leaving out background music. I switched from PC to Mac a few years ago, mainly for the superior hardware. In the end I could no longer tolerate the fans of my Lenovo laptop constantly running. Never heard the fans on my MacBook Pro and no regrets on all other aspects.
I know many that claim that but the fans are spinning. All people that love macs never admit issues Oh poor people that fix macs they never get any customer.
I was a windows user, swore by it and refused to even think about a Mac. In 2011 I needed a PC with macOS for work, and refusing to spend any money on a Mac I went down the Hackintosh path. It was....interesting...but so time consuming and constantly working on it. So...I figured if I am going to use a Mac, Im getting one I can play with and upgrade, in came the 2010 5,1 Mac Pro....been on macOS since.
Windows has been very stable for me, I've had issues with Mac where I had to open the terminal and run a bunch of commands for stuff to work right. Asus Pro, Dell XPS, and Samsung laptops are very well built, so you can't really give that point to Apple since you're comparing the MacBook to much cheaper laptops which are understandably less robust (you get what you pay for). Also you can go into settings and disable windows showing you other apps you can snap.
My work PC died and I wanted to try a Mac. Had it for 3 month and hated it. Had so many issues. Bluetooth wasn't working, many programs wasn't working right.... Came back to Windows and everything is good again!
This is TH-cam. They don’t pay creators what they deserve so they’re left to Pimp products in the guise of legit reviews. No difference in the days of industry magazines. Advertisers always win out even with subpar products.
One of the more unbiased reviews I've come across. When it comes down to getting work done in the quickest and easiest way, hands down, Windows is the clear winner. Between window snapping, peek preview of apps from the taskbar, clipboard history, ease of use on OneDrive across different PCs, I feel Windows just does things the way you want. There are way more things like assigning different sound output devices to different apps, tabs in file explorer, task manager on Windows 11, power toys, etc. that just gives way more control to the user. One of the biggest draws on the Apple side of things is their ecosystem. Once you're in, you're in. And credit where credit's due, it works really well. When it comes to longevity, I feel like if you get a well-built Windows device, like a Surface, it will last you a real long time. I've had mine for about 4 years and the quality still feels like it did on day 1, even the Alcantara keyboard.
I'd argue you can do all of the above on a mac as well with a few additional apps, and as for longevity I've literally just got rid of my old 2007 iMac and 2008 original unibody MacBook for a MacBook air M1 and a mac mini M2, I've had loads of macs over the years (I'm old) and have kept them always for a minimum of 6 years. I used to be massively pro windows and have literally used every variant of Windows starting at Windows 3.1 and going all the way up to the latest but I just prefer the way OSX works, feels more intuitive but I think all these things are just subjective and you should just use what you like best, I run 11 web servers for my job and all of those run Linux and I wouldn't choose anything else to do that job due to the stability, I have servers that haven't been rebooted for over 2 years, our old windows servers were rebooted every few days, Horses for courses as the saying goes ...
I used to be a Windows user having experience with 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, though I've moved to a MacBook Air after the release of the M1 model. They definitely both have their strengths and weaknesses and they're both excellent operating systems, although I've been finding I prefer macOS and the MacBook Air hardware to what I've had before.
@@RK-um9tu From my experience they’re both pretty much equally good. @@RK-um9tu Not to mention Apple silicon is fantastic. Unless you want the absolute most powerful GPU or you want to game, I'd say it's ahead of what Intel and AMD are doing in a few ways.
Something I really like with the trackpads on Windows - at least Surface trackpads (as far as I know) is that they are COMPLETELY customisable. On Mac you certainly have some control, but on Windows, you can make any three or four-finger gesture on a trackpad do ANYTHING - including ANY custom keyboard shortcut. I personally use ones below: Three fingers: - Tap: ALT + TAB (quickly switch between the last two apps) - Swipe up: Windows + S (Search) - Swipe down: Windows key (instant Windows menu shortcut - faster than pressing the windows key on a keyboard) - Swipe left: Win + A: (opens Action Centre) - Swipe right: "Switch apps" (shows and lets you swipe through all open windows) Four fingers: - Tap: ALT + F4 (closes apps) - Swipe up: Win + E (opens File Explorer) - Swipe down: "Backward navigation" (goes back in FE, web browser, many apps...) - Swipe left: "Minimise a window" - Swipe right: "Maximise a window" I find these shortcuts SUPER helpful!
for me it's four finger tap for media play/pause. swiping up/down for volume controls. Also i use mouse with extra buttons on side, that i use for forward/backward - super efficient, works on everything like browsers, file explorer, other apps etc. and then scroll press to close tabs.
For me it's both. For desktops I choose windows, because I really love gaming, but for laptops I choose Mac, as Macbooks are really superior in battery life, weight and performance that if I had the money to choose, I'd always go for a macbook.
I always hated macs and said they were more expensive but when m1 came out I made the transition. It is a very reliable machine just for work. They are incredible but I still maintain a windows desktop for gaming and storage so at the end it depends on each person.
I only recently fully switched to Mac this year. I’ve had a few iPhones in the past, and didn’t like how I was not able to fully customize everything down to the pixel like how I would on my Android. But there was always this glaring fact that, the iPhone never once let me down. It’s reliable. The only android phones I had that can even compare are the galaxy phones, but even then, after the 2nd year, they start to slow down. My last android phone was the Note 10+ and that will always be my favorite phone ever. It’s so gorgeous and I love the “boxy” look. I miss the S-Pen everyday.. but that phone takes like several minutes just to turn on.. and is constantly lagging. Compared to my old iPhone 8 with a cracked screen that turns on less than 30 seconds… and I have never had any issues with it. The lagging is was the main thing that pushed me towards apple. I got the new iPhone 14+(or pro, whatever tf they call it lol), I knew what I was getting, some brick with extremely limited features and customization, but at the end of the day, I kinda really don’t care about that anymore lol. I’ve had it for about a year and only once did I need to restart it because it was acting buggy and slow, vs doing it at least once a day with my Galaxy Note 10... Then I got the air pods, which are seamless when connecting w my other Apple devices, and I got an iPad Pro w the Apple Pencil. I had a galaxy tab 7+ and just like the Note 10+ that started lagging and being buggy after a year. Apple Pencil is flawless. And the tip is durable vs the squishy tip on the S-pen that comes with Galaxy Tab 7+. Then I got the Apple Watch, and full disclosure, both the galaxy watch (I had one) and Apple Watch are kinda equal but the Galaxy Watch by far excels with monitoring your sleep. And then I got a MacBook Pro and… it’s like being on drugs or something lol.. it’s just so simple. RELIABLE. And the apps optimized for macs run too smoothly… vs w my windows laptop where I have to take 20 million extra steps to divert all my CPU to rendering a preview of a video lol… they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Macs are super reliable, and the ecosystem with the watch and the iPhone and iPad and the AirPods is pure perfection. Even when the Galaxy buds came out initially, it was one too many steps to switch to another device, which I wouldn’t have thought until after I switched to apple. I totally get the appeal of windows and yes in hindsight, it’s better. But only if you know what you’re doing. Like if you have experience building PCs and know all the ins and outs vs If your just a normie who isn’t trying to build a skynet pc to run Skyrim on 12k 600fps with ray tracing, then apple is goat. I love both and use them both equally everyday. I kinda treat my MacBook more like my wife, and my PC like the mistress lol 😅
I use Windows and recently Linux on my desktop and I have a Macbook Pro laptop. The one major thing that really kills me with the Mac is multi-window of a single application. With Windows, I can just hover over the icon in the taskbar and choose the window I want to bring up. On the Mac, I have to either Cmd+Tab through all of my open apps or open one window of the app, go up to the window menu, and choose the one I'm looking for from a text list, which is definitely not ideal. I do like both experiences overall though.
Long time Windows user here, after switching from Mac a long, long time ago. Windows 11 is very nice and the whole set-up works well with my Samsung Galaxy phone. Macs are just too expensive for little benefit in my opinion.
I am still running a mid-2011 iMac. I have upgraded to a 1TB SSD and 32 GB of RAM. Sure, it's definitely getting a bit long in the tooth, but I can still run Word, Excel, PhotoShop just fine on it. Not too shabby for a 12-year old machine. My old iPhone 5 lasted 9 years (although I had to spend $20 on a new battery) before I had to upgrade for banking etc...
I was heavy into Windows when I worked. I was even a corporate admin with tons of certifications. What I loathed about windows was the constant updating. The struggles installing new hardware, etc. After I retired, I switched to Apple. I wanted something that just worked and was low maintenance. Maybe Windows has gotten better over the past twenty years but I am deep into the Apple ecosystem and I have zero regrets.
With Universal Control on the Mac, you can move your mouse pointer to another Mac or even up to 10 other Macs and use the keyboard of one as long as you are logged in with the same Apple id (iPads also work). Or you can simply use your iPad as a second screen.
@@jensenraylight8011Yes, but is not as smooth as mac OS, I have a friend that have the iPad as a second monitor, using it wireless, and the transition from the mbp to the iPad is seamless. And I, as a windows user using the chorme remote, it gets choppy and having a 3 to 4 seconds delay, it's very frustrating.
@@Funaki90 3-4 Second is an exaggeration, the latency was ms to 1 second at worst. i think it depend on your internet speed, but modern internet speed could handle that well enough my point is that, you've the same option in windows, although not as seamless, but it still do the job i used it to relay my pc screen to view sheet music or access multiple PC to do multiple workflows. that was not only helpful, but makes me super productive as well. because most of the time, i don't need multiple pointer to other devices, most people already owned multiple monitor, i want 5 of my laptop or pc screen shown at my main monitor
Another great video Mike. I use a MacBook at the minute, having been on Windows for 20yrs+ Don't know how you treated you Window's lappy's in college, but when you said the hinges always crapped-out, no matter what you got...🤷♂ I can honestly say it's NEVER happened to me ever! But you're right, both have plusses and minuses...
Yeah he had to be doing some crazy nonsense to break the hinges on most decent models. Plenty of models are one hand to open and never crap out on me. I still prefer mac NOW for laptops. M series changed it for me. Before that, I always thought macs were overpriced since they ran same architecture and mostly just had a different gui, but overall weren't worth hundreds upon hundreds more, but NOW, many oh man. Mac M series laptop is my favorite device.
Moved to Mac 10 months ago after 30 years of being a Windows user. Absolutely love the Mac and the Apple ecosystem (own iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) and would never go back to Windows. Still, there are some things that are more convenient on Windows than on Mac. For example, the ability to customize system sounds, which isn't native on the Mac, but has to be achieved with the purchase of an app.
@@GBamaBoy Worse mistake? have been using Windows for 20 years, and now still using Windows + Mac. I'd tell ya - for programming, etc - Windows is a pain in the ass, it's literally shit, period.
I don't understand why people are so insistent on having Face ID on Mac. Touch ID is all you need! It's placed on the keyboard-which happens to be the primary source of input when interacting with your machine.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about in closing a window in macOS. For every application Ctrl-Q for "Quit" is the way to go. If you must click on the red dot in the upper right of the window - that will close that app window and if it's the only window open for that app, the app is suspended - very little resources are used from that point on. I use Windows in my work life as an IT support person and Mac's in my personal life, I made the switch to macOS long ago. Nice video and good conversation
I have a windows desktop that I built 6 years ago that I use for gaming and a big screen “control room” experience. Lots of freedom and a great tool to have. But I have a MacBook as my laptop I use for school and carry with me everywhere for all my general purpose computing and music creation with logic. I love them both for very different reasons and honestly don’t ever want to pick just one to use because they’re so different.
Good (and objective and fair) review. The two companies have very different strategies. Windows commitment to backwards compatibility and platform agnosticism is great-ish. But it is a HUGE overhead and barrier for their software teams (and the recent imposition of hardware restrictions on Windows 11 capable platforms attests to that). Apple's closed ecosystem gives them a much easier way to ensure a consistent user experience, but at a huge cost to the end user (both in price and options). The fact that apple has pushed 3 or 4 proprietary hardware interfaces over the years, in complete disregard for the investment people (and companies making devices that plug into these interfaces) have made in devices that use that interface (all of which become unusable when the next years product comes out) has turned me off Apple. It remains to be seen how well Apple plays in the USB-C arena. I use Windows and Linux on my computers. I use an iPhone (I did use a Windows phone for a few years and had great hopes for it's future .... sigh). At the end of the day I would say both do their jobs well. Apple has better marketing, packaging, and hype. Windows has been more accessible. Apple feels more evil.
Laptop: Mac. Desktop: Windows, custom built. I’ve been a Windows user all my life. I got my first MacBook Pro (their first M1) 2 years ago. There are some things I hate about MacOS because I’m so used to Windows but overall, my MacBook has been reliable and has great performance and battery life. It was perfect when was in college, so handy at my current job. I’d owned 2 Windows laptops before. After 3 to 4 years of use, the battery would drain so fast and I would lose nearly 50% of its performance
Mike, you didn't mention that we can use samsung wireless dex on a windows laptop! It's like, suddenly you've got yourself a samsung tablet as well lol, my only complaint is that the wireless dex can't really go beyond 1080p video output and sometimes even a bit laggy ( to my asus midrange laptop at least... ), but still very helpful especially when I'm outside and don't have any wifi nearby, the oneui desktop experience boosts my productivity so much more!
I used to like some of the unique concepts of MacOS, but I absolutely hate Apple as a company, their business practices (ie., locking things down, their "my way or the highway" mindset, and generally selling overpriced junk...), and these negatives are what kept me from ever touching another one of their computers since I got out of school. Similarly, I ditched Windows for Linux back when XP was at SP2/SP3, Microsoft announced its demise and introduced Vista, its joke of a successor. I still have Windows 10 on my laptop just in case I need it, but I rarely ever use it and when I do it tends to piss me off (quite often the automatic update BS). i'll take Linux any day.
I am still running a 2009 Apple Mac Pro with dual 5690 Xeon Processors, 128 GB of RAM, 2 TB NVME drive, (2) 8TB drives in a RAID, (2) 1 TB SSDs, and an 8 GB RX580 Video Card. I am running Mac OS Monterey (via Open Core Legacy Patcher) and Windows 11 via Parallels desktop. So technically I am getting the best of both worlds. She may be 14 years old, but she still purrs like a Jaguar . . .
This is a very good comparison. I mean, really good. I had an opportunity to try mac and windows, and yeah - there are pros and cons for each OS. Just as you said - Win is more flexible than macOS, but the macOs has this dead simplicity and better accessibility in its core - for example the setting option in Win: "Increase font size", in mac : "Make text bigger". Also, I got to admit, that transition to Apple Silicon chips was great and flawless. New stuff works as intended, old stuff uses very well tuned QEMU (branded as Rosetta2) and it just work. On the other hand, I would not say, that macOs is more stabile than windows. I think, that they are now "on par", I experienced some crashes on mac as well. Plus for us programmers - its kinda tempting to use Mac for their unix insides, but honestly -this can also backfire pretty well :) (you use different implementation of standard utilities like sed, so there are differences which you need to be aware of) - today the Win with WSL seems actually like a much better choice.
Nice thorough comparison Mike. In respect to ecosystems the Microsoft Surface range and peripherals are probably the closest, if not equal to Apple's. The mice, KB's, headsets and Studio desktops connect seamlessly with the Surface Tabs and laptops. Granted MS don't have a watch or phone (It's a crying shame that MS didn't/couldn't make the Windows Phone work) but as you say, Android phones work well as do Google and Samsung watches. That Lenovo hybrid tablet is very cool though, especially when using the stand. :)
It is not the Mac operating system that leaves programs running in the background after you click the Close button it's the developers. All Xcode made apps can be set to completely close with the button (no need to quit afterwards) but the developers don't program it to close or prefer to leave it running so you can open a new program window.
Macs are not much much more expensive. I value my time and even though Apple products are a higher quality hardware the real benefit comes in ease of use and security and support. I feel more productive on a Mac and spend less time on non-productive issues.
...not counting the periodic replacement of peripherals when they're being discontinued \ unsupported with updates. the planned obsolescence in Apple is very effective. over 9000 to be specific. plus lack of upgradeability makes Apple have the worst TCO you can possibly have.
I’m not sure if that’s completely accurate. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and it connects with every new peripheral. Most of my macs have lasted 4-5 years of daily professional use.
I moved over to Mac because of the Drivers issues. Even if you have a spect out power house windows computer, the developers for the Drivers for the specific hardware brand will stop producing new drivers after a set amount of years. My Dell laptop got shafted by windows when they put out windows 11 requiring a TMP Chip leaving my laptop on windows 10 and ended up installing Linux onto it as a backup laptop. Mac is just better at the fact that you can use it for years until it just straight up breaks
Having a huge selection of Windows laptops to choose from is definitely a plus but you don't really feel the downsides of Apple's complete lack of choices because the 2 laptops they do make, they're excellent in pretty much every regard nowadays. However, it's still Windows for me for its far superior business/enterprise and finance application landscape as that's my line of work. Even though I was previously inclined towards getting a MacBook, I had to scrap that plan.
Good video. 👍 Thank you! i've used both, both work. I don't "identify" with my computers so I don't care that much either way. I guess over the past 10 years or so. I seemed to have migrated to 100% Windows. That's a bit cheaper, more convenient, also a bit more customization. (Not a Windows fanboy, but It does makes me feel less like I am inside a walled garden). That said, neither one is perfect. 😊
Windows is just a Productivity superpower, there are a lot of Great thing that could elevate your productivity into super level, windows is great for amateurs and pro alike going back to Mac is like going back into the caveman period, they did a lot of bonehead things there, it just a very frustrating experience with Mac. don't get me wrong, it's good for Grandpa and 5yo, they limit the functionality to the max so even an idiot couldn't do anything wrong with it. but if you're neither of that demographic, then Mac will felt very limiting, you paid a $2500 for something that was limited, you can't game on it, you can't use it for heavy CAD and 3D rendering apps, there always something you can't do with it
Windows is better and more versatile but because of owning 70 percent of the market, hackers focus more on windows than on Mac OS. Although Mac os is a beautiful sleek operating system, it is very limited to gaming and using other 3rd party applications. I use windows 10 LTSC iso modified with (isotool) and took away all the bloatware.
Two reasons I prefer Mac… TimeMachine (super easy backup, and included), and if something goes wrong, one phone number gets me the company that made the software and hardware… no blaming the third party. Good presentation, thanks.

Nice and fair comparison/review. However, when it comes to the longevity , a more fair comparison would be to compare MacBooks with ThinkPads (the X or T series) - I'm still using, on a daily basis, X220 (from/2012) and the other one from 2008 (X200) still runs (but it's slow). I've used a few MacBooks (Pro/Air), a MacMini and an iMac, and a few Thinkpads (X200, 220, and currently using a T480) and I find the ThinkPads being much more reliable (hardware reliability) than MacBooks. When it comes to MacOS vs. Windows.... it's a personal preference. I've always had problems with MacOS when connected to external non-Apple monitors, controlling sound, etc. so I prefer Windows since it has always worked (in my case) with all the pheripherials I've used quite smoothly.
I've had this same experience. Currently using a 7th gen x1 carbon and it's so versatile and hardwearing - Apple is so proprietary it can be painful at times. I'm currently on a iPhone 7 and now debating whether to order the new 15 pro or finally go Android!
I switched from iPhone SE to Samsung S23, and the S23 works much better for me (and I'm here comparing only iOS and Android - obviously, the S23 is a much better piece of hardware, so no comparisson there).@@curtis24-7
I was also a big fan of Thinkpad in the X230 days. They have gone downhill in my opinion. I switched after Thinkpad P1 Gen 2 or something. The fan noise was unbearable even when doing simple office type things. I switched to MacBook Pro 14 last year, and while I miss some aspects of the Windows OS, the long battery life compared with no fan noise(and I mean none) makes me stick with Mac for the time being.
I left Mac a few days ago....at least on my laptop. Mac updated its version from 13.3 to 13.4/5. In doing so, it broke external monitor support from Thunderbolt 4 to DP 1.4. When I called Apple, I was told that even though they broke the connection, I would have to call Samsung, to beg them to fix their hardware. Not kidding. I returned my Macbook Pro M2 and purchased a Windows machine the next day. I have a Google PIxel 7Pro that I may switch over to as well this weekend. I will steer clear of Apple for the foreseeable future.
I use both everyday, but there are some things I like on the Mac more, I used cmd + 4 all the time to capture parts of the screen, and I like that any image with text in it, you can extract that text as Apple as OCR built in, lots of simple things like that really increase my productivity when it comes to studying, also prefer pages to word, having said that prefer excel to numbers, fortunately office 365 is on the Mac now and has been for sometime. I usually use my Mac and then remote into my pc when I need to these days. Clearly gaming is not a Mac thing, but in regards to productivity I’d go Mac any day.
@@daewiedit he’s possibly the same sort of person who says my 10k gaming PC is better than your $500 PS5, lol, oh well each to their own, but I have to say as a daily driver I’m in the Mac camp. Ironically I need to use PCs but where possible I’ll have the Windows PC on and just remote into it from my Mac.
Every thing that makes a Mac special has nothing to do with being a computer, Things like airdrop, icloud, instant wake, quality materials, longevity, compatibility, easy etc. and of course the ecosystem
I'm a desk top kind of guy, so the laptops make no difference to me, but having been a Windows user all my life, because of W11 not being compatible with my quite expensive and still very powerful Windows PC, I decided that I would just sell it, and jump over to a Mac Mini, it has less power, but seems to work just as fast for most things, and apart from the keyboard layout @ and " being swapped around, and the control keys being different, I have found most things pretty easy to get along with. I love the trackpad, but still use a mouse as well. My one real annoyance is if I am on a website and want to post an image, the folder only shows very small icons, which makes it hard to find the image I want to share, especially if I am in a folder with many similar images. I can change the size of the thumbnails on the computer itself in folder view, but not when opened through adding a picture, say on FB. It drives me crazy. I would like facial recognition for logging in as well, although I do have the fingerprint, thing on the keyboard, I much preferred that the computer just recognised me when I turned it on. I also miss Office Access, it was my go to tool for some work
5:14 for those pop-ups on windows, you can customize this, and stop the pop-ups, also with Windows you can make it more personal and have it look like a Mac if you want more minimization
Regarding personalization, you are correct. I can change a lot about Windows and customize the appearance quite extensively. I love that! For the popups however, I get that I can make them stop, but they should have never started imo. On Mac these popups don't exist. It feels like I am always being upsold with Windows. The whole OS pushes you to use Edge instead of Brave, to get an Office 365 subscription, etc. I think Windows needs to chill with the upsells
Wow, this was a really nice & well done video that I was interested in seeing & hearing your perspective on Mike. I have been a lifelong Windows user here (I started with Windows 3.1 way back when) However I am beginning to save up for & I will eventually be moving on to Mac's. I am not much of a computer customizer or a gamer & I have a large as is 4,400+ iTunes Music Library that I need & want to be able to listen to on the go. The build quality of Mac's is another calling card for me going that route. Also interesting that my very old Windows PC laptop that my MacBook will be replacing was also an HP.
I have Mac and my wife has Windows. It is incredible how many times Windows bugs and asks questions as if all users had to be IT professionals. My Mac never does that. Besides that, Windows has that Outlook which is just hell on earth. So, once I changed to Mac I never even thought about coming back. I just hate my wife's struggle with her PC and having to turn it off 2-3 times a day because it just stops working.
translation - I am an iTroll who doesn't even have a wife. Also, it Windows is so bad why does it have around 80% market share and Apple has 8%. Bet you feel pretty stupid posting disinformation right about now.
I'm not sure picking that lenovo is very representative of "windows" (very much not a typical windows machine) but it is representative of how there's a wide variety of windows machines! Overall a good comparison, but I'd say that referring to your old experience with hp in terms of reliability is a bit unfair (they love to just break).
Yup, he also forgot to mention the tons of issues people were facing with Macbooks over the years (keys stopping working due to butterfly keyboard, heat causing the GPU to die, etc.) Louis Rossman has many videos about these issues.
@@maddada Apple hasn't used the butterfly keyboard in 3 years and their current scissor switch keyboards seem to be far more reliable. However they still have other issues like SSDs not being reliable and soldering the NAND to the board meaning if the NAND dies the laptop cannot boot, even from an external drive, something earlier non T2 chip macs could do. GPU failing also hasn't been an issue since they switched from Nvidia back when Steve Jobs was alive.
Nice video. “Bloatware” issue is huge, and always has been. Apple frequently issues OS security updates. Also, does Windows OS have a feature similar to Spaces?
I spend much more time on windows, but have a mac too and using it too. There are many things very annoying about the mac which does not seem make sense to me and annoys me a lot. I just cannot get used to the Finder for example unfortunately. Seems their choices many times more about being different over being useful. Like on a selected file enter opens the file on every OS except on mac it goes to rename but question: How often want to rename versus open a file? So it would make sense to have the easier more obvious option for the more often used operation right? I wanted to quickly write down something on the mac the other day so i used notes and while i was using it editing the text it jumped in scrolling up and down like a mad dog so i googled it what's wrong and I found a thread saying it is like this for many years nobody fix anything. So one assume with a mac you get a very stable working less customizable platform but I am not sure about the stability anymore. I always feel the mac os is an abandoned child. It has a lot opportunities but besides integrating the iOS cooperation more and more they don't develop much about it. The dock is still half as intuitive as on windows doesn't even pop up a peaking window about the app you hover the mouse over... the copy panel still doesn't show the actual speed of transferring. weird. I am sure there are many many annoying things about windows but they at least seem trying. Since windows 10 for me there was not much glitch or serious issues about it. But of course my first os was windows and that matters a lot for sure. I have mac because I use logic, native apple app on a native appropriate hardware designed along with the their own OS and have a lot hiccups. Always happens something after waking up from sleep. Cannot set in the computer to NOT give voltage to the external usb audio interface when sleeping ,so I have to unplug it all the time when I stop working, I don't want to keep it plugged in to the charger all the time it kills the battery they say, so then I use again after opening the lid waking up the computer it says the audio interface was changed and seem ok then when I hit space for paying the audio it pauses and thinking again to apply the audio again for 10 sec... so annoying. Also mac kind of force you to update the system so you do it and then it turns out your midi controller or anything doesn't have the driver for the new system yet so you are F d so I think that old testiment or myth that with a mac everything is seamless and with a windows your life is just hard doesn't seem to be true maybe it never was.
Both has advantages and disadvantages. However, the fact that I can't get Office with either subscribing or buy once. Also, and I only used Windows. I can't accept that Google Drive is for free and Microsoft with Windows is not. That makes no sense
Very good comparison. Thanks! I also use both and am not really impressed with Windows when it comes to the file management. This could be improved. Anything else both systems have their pros and con's that balance out.
According to rumors, Windows 12 will be a subscription model. If Tim Cook doesn't follow Windows for money, this is a huge plus for Apple. Linux will reap the benefits, but its priority is to create a user-friendly system. Even Ubuntu is a developer-friendly system that cannot compete with Mac OS, let alone Windows.
TLDR: For tinkerers, nerds, gamers and frugal people, having a Windows is best. For professional work, having a Mac is best. As for me, I have both, MacBook for work and Windows Desktop at Home. I was a staunch Windows user when I was in college and regularly gaming, torrenting, hobby hacking, and messing around with computers. I love it because I own my computer, and there are not many restrictions to play around with every aspect of the computer including BIOS, Boot OS, etc. I still, to this day enjoy doing the above things as a hobby and maintain a gaming Windows laptop/desktop on the side. For everything else, and for serious professional work, Mac helps stay focused on the work I am doing, and it just disappears into the background. It is perfect for doing serious work, and I still can perform many tasks but it has to be something that is legal and supported by Apple. It is also more expensive, as you pay for this convenience.
Never returned to Windows for my personal computer since 2015. I had several windows laptops and PCs before and it was clunky and it doesn't last long. My MacBook Pro 2015 is still working today. I have replaced it with another Pro, the M1 Plus which is gorgeous and efficient. So Mac for me!
The fact that windows for pc and laptop and android for phone and tablet are completely different and owned by competing companies makes it so that it isn't like apple where it is the same ecosystem so they will limit their stuff to force you to buy other stuff from them.
File Explorer > Finder Word > Pages Excel > Numbers App Store > Microsoft Store OneDrive > iCloud Safari > Edge Siri > Copilot Task Manager > Activity Monitor Windows Explorer > Aqua Apple Mail > Outlook Clipchamp > iMovie MSN News > Apple News Media Player > Apple Music Facetime > Teams Live Tiles > Apple Widgets Apple Widgets > Windows 11 widgets Taskbar > Dock Start Menu > Launcher Weather (equally good) Maps (equally bad)
Windows itself becoming like mac because everything is does you list are all ( = to mac own OS ) Remove the left and right and keep the center filled with apps they soon has a proplem with apple Going away soon is their apk support for windows 11 like Apple don`t want IOS apps to work on mac
The one thing that amazes me is that if you compile out the exact same app between CISC vs. RISC base systems the RISC base systems resultant app file size is always smaller. I would think it would be the opposite. One thing that is really amazing is Rosetta on the mac gives you the benefits of having both Windows and Mac on one machine. MS sees the writing on the wall with laptops with their first toe step with Windows Arm OS version.
PC Gaming has a hold on me sadly. I am grateful tho that at least the iPhone works decently on a PC now. (Intel Unison and Phone Link) Although, I may replace my PC laptop for a M Chip Macbook Air if MS hasn't delivered on ARM by 2026.
I was a Windows-only user for decades. I actually started with PC before Windows. After trying Mac OS about 10 years ago, it became my daily driver. I only use Windows for gaming and work that require it.
Interesting video! I've got the best of both worlds, a 16" M1 Pro MacBook, and a fully kitted out gaming desktop PC. I'd rather use my Mac for 99% of things, so web browsing, video editing, programming, Microsoft Office (ironically), listening to music, file sharing, remote desktop, email etc. It just runs smoother, has a nicer UI, is snappier, and you know its just going to work and not hang when you click something. That being said, if I had to choose only 1 computer to use and disregard the other, it would still have to be a Windows machine, simply because that 1% of things i'd rather do on a PC, are things you CAN'T do on a Mac, like proper gaming, indie titles, and all of those weird and wonderful .exe apps you find that suit your every need.
lol that's how I feel. imo windows went downhill after 7 and the only thing it's better at is games so I switched to mac and never looked back a few years ago. That being said the only way I'd ever go back to windows is if I got back into gaming and wanted to build a gaming pc in one of those xbox style pc cases and just use it for games and shit.
For me, the presence of sponsored apps by default in Windows and Microsoft's poor privacy decisions in recent years leave gaming as the only compelling reason to use Windows, because it is often a requirement. For everything else, Linux or macOS are likely better choices, particularly now with Advanced Data Protection available on macOS.
I've used both for years and one of my biggest gripes in Windows is with File Explorer. It still doesn't give you a folder size and copying ETA is just ridiculously innacurate.
I personally think that Mac is better but, I completely understand the reasons why some prefer Windows. I use Windows for my work PC and I actually just got a Windows laptop for myself. Mainly cause it's cheaper than buying a new Mac. I have an iPad that I use for my mobile needs so it's kinda like I have both worlds lol.
I just switched from Windows to MAC 💻 and can’t believe I waited so long! If you have an iPhone 📱 and an iPad then getting a MacBook 💻 is a no brainer 😎 makes so much sense!

i use both windows since 1995 and mac since Feb... and as of today I am convinced that IWndows is by far superior - not form features but form an end-users functionalities point of view.. but I also like some things about MacOS
but Many simple IWndows things - they are not there on MAC - like why cant apps be minimized to the Task bar ? (the small action icons).. you end up with apps in the dock that are not needed there..
You don't quit applications by clicking the X on Mac... you Command + Q them. It's very easy. Command + Tab scrolls through your apps, and Command + Q closes them. You can do it in a split second, much faster than clicking around.
I use both. I don't mind using both. I bought a M1 Air for university and it's been a blast, while boasting a PC with good specs at home to program and game. Both do the job I bought em for, both work fine. The OS has never been a contention point for me.

Macs have a more closed ecosystem, which is one of the reasons I don't use them. For example, windows allow me to use different hardware and software combinations, while macs are more restricted and expensive.

M1 and M2 chips are amazing if you do computationally demanding computing like graphics and video, plus software companies don't need to design with all the possible hardware variables that come with windows.

I personally use ones below:
Three fingers:

Plenty of software on Mac that lets you do this
@@IceBlueLugia There would be plenty of software on everything, also Linux. But what I’m saying is it’s built in 😊
Idk if you just haven't used a Mac before, or recently, but you can very much customise all of this.
@ You cannot customise them to anything you want. You have like 6-8choices on there.
for me it's four finger tap for media play/pause. swiping up/down for volume controls.
Same desktop windows. Macs for laptops

Thanks for your input.. Really helps me 🫶🏾
I really enjoyed reading this comment lol great job!
Cycle through an app’s open windows with Command ~ . Problem solved. Also, use Spaces so that each app has its own space.
Or you can simply use your iPad as a second screen.
windows can did that too, it was called Chrome Remote Desktop

Moved to Mac 10 months ago after 30 years of being a Windows user. Absolutely love the Mac and the Apple ecosystem (own iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) and would never go back to Windows. Still, there are some things that are more convenient on Windows than on Mac. For example, the ability to customize system sounds, which isn't native on the Mac, but has to be achieved with the purchase of an app.

It's like, suddenly you've got yourself a samsung tablet as well lol, my only complaint is that the wireless dex can't really go beyond 1080p video output and sometimes even a bit laggy ( to my asus midrange laptop at least... ), but still very helpful especially when I'm outside and don't have any wifi nearby, the oneui desktop experience boosts my productivity so much more!
goodlock can push the limit past 1080p
Also having mutiple screens for Macbooks is a nightmare unless you have a thundebolt hub otherwise its seperate cables

I remember my good old days with windows 7 i used them for 7 years of gaming and youtube and internet surfing 🏄♂️
And programs without any windows open generally don’t use any resources. Not you cpu and not your ram. Only a spot in the task bar 🙂
I still cannot get over the notch on the screen of MacBooks; it’s an eyesore.
There is a way to make the whole top bar black to hide it

I should add, my phone is Android (converted from iPhone after iPhone 6) and I returned an iPad as I wasn't using it as much as I hoped.

Yup, he also forgot to mention the tons of issues people were facing with Macbooks over the years (keys stopping working due to butterfly keyboard, heat causing the GPU to die, etc.)
Louis Rossman has many videos about these issues.
I have an alienware desktop from 2011 & still using it w/o issues due to upgrades I did
Nice video. “Bloatware” issue is huge, and always has been. Apple frequently issues OS security updates. Also, does Windows OS have a feature similar to Spaces?
It's not huge. It's mildly annoying.
Windows all the way for me. I hate how restrictive MacOS is.
It's so true that Windows is just for buttoned-up teens that, 90% of businesses worldwide use Windows 🤧

I mean with windows you get what you pay for. This is why it's important to do some research before really buying any laptop or desktop
Nearby Share from Android to Windows and the other way around is out now
The fact that windows for pc and laptop and android for phone and tablet are completely different and owned by competing companies makes it so that it isn't like apple where it is the same ecosystem so they will limit their stuff to force you to buy other stuff from them.
WINDOWS , GTA 6 and windows has really changed from windows 11 ,,,,, mac is only for youtubers to edit videos

Windows itself becoming like mac
because everything is does you list are all ( = to mac own OS )
Remove the left and right and keep the center filled with apps
they soon has a proplem with apple
Going away soon is their apk support for windows 11 like Apple don`t want IOS apps to work on mac
MS is now basically Indian operated, from CEO down to the guy designing icons. The future's not bright.
@@YouGotPropofol Who is in charge of macOS development? Craig Federighi?
@@arround1 yes
Mac for mobile devices. Windows for desktop and gaming. Done.
That being said, if I had to choose only 1 computer to use and disregard the other, it would still have to be a Windows machine, simply because that 1% of things i'd rather do on a PC, are things you CAN'T do on a Mac, like proper gaming, indie titles, and all of those weird and wonderful .exe apps you find that suit your every need.
have you tried GPT so you get rid of your gaming pc entirely
lol that's how I feel. imo windows went downhill after 7 and the only thing it's better at is games so I switched to mac and never looked back a few years ago.
It still doesn't give you a folder size and copying ETA is just ridiculously innacurate.
what the hell? Windows gives you the folder size since at least XP... at least learn the basics before commenting
@@Jacob_S13 I’m in list view on Windows 11. Still waiting to see folder sizes…
One thing mac is good at , colour accuracy for editing , laptos/windows need special monitors
am kinda butt hurt because i thought you are just comparing the two OS as vanila without any third party apps but you went ahead and mentionned "magnet" for mac
at that point you already lost because for windows unlike mac you can install and cutomize anything about the windows operating system am talking functionality and visuals and user eperience
basicall:y if we allow third-party apps in this comparison then by that argurment the windows is superior period ;)
🤝🏽
Love the idea of Apple silicon but absolutely hate macOS. So IMHO the perfect laptop doesn’t exist.
to conclude: Linux wins
i use both windows since 1995 and mac since Feb... and as of today I am convinced that IWndows is by far superior - not form features but form an end-users functionalities point of view.. but I also like some things about MacOS
but there is no better" in general its jsut better for a user..
however my M2 MacBook Pro with 32 GB is bY FAR slower than my Surface Studio Laptop (excluding APple and MS apps on the respective platform)
but also compare PRICES - the Windows laptop ist half the price of a MacBOok - so the quality comes with a price..
but Many simple IWndows things - they are not there on MAC - like why cant apps be minimized to the Task bar ? (the small action icons).. you end up with apps in the dock that are not needed there..
Windows >>>>
You don't quit applications by clicking the X on Mac... you Command + Q them. It's very easy. Command + Tab scrolls through your apps, and Command + Q closes them. You can do it in a split second, much faster than clicking around.
