I looked at these and went with a Vango Galaxy 300 instead, I'm in the UK, Vango's are made in Scotland. It's a bit lighter than the others, smaller pack size, but not as versatile. I'm 100% with you on this, Ive have smaller tents, they have their place, but as a base camp tent, when I'm on my big bike, I want to be able to stand up, I want to be comfortable - I did 23 years of sleeping rough in hell holes in the Army, so I can rough it with the best of them when I need to, but when I don't need to why would I? As they say, any fool can be uncomfortable! Thanks for sharing - Oh, send me your address and I'll send you a head torch, no need for a lamp hook then!

    Hi Dave.
I had a similar thing with my hanging lamp when touring Germany 2 years ago.
I ended up untying an unused guyrope and then securing it inside by joining the 4 tie loops together to for a central cross.
I hung our lamp there and ended up hanging some underwear to dry there also.
i still have it attached but now i used thin dyneema cord and some tiny plastic carabiners so the doors can still be rolled-up.
    BTW
I bought some cheap shock-corded DAC alloy poles from ebay (chinese) and cut em to length to make my own awning kit...
    So you're not alone !
    Stay safe

Hi Dave, I bought v1 of the Redverz many years ago. There was not a solo back then but I have to say you will not be disappointed with the amount of space you get for so little weight gain. Yes, mine has some of the niggles that you pointed out but all in all, a great tent.

🛵💨Used my solo for Alaska and Newfoundland adv and love it still. Bought a small tent for the divide ride to keep things light but no regrets on the solo. It might cost 500 but I’ve slept in it about 50 times🤷

Got the Atacama tent for 2 or more people. If I’m putting the bike inside I don’t use the footprint since the stand can damage it. It is a heavy tent and takes a little longer to setup . A tip is to leave the footprints attached when packing if they are clean . Second is to identify the front from the back. I usually pack the poles separately from the tent. Put the tent in a 40 little duffle bag. If I’m going for an overnighter I will use a smaller tent. If rain is in the forecast definitely take the Redverz. You can setup without getting the inside tent wet and do your usual business inside. Great review 😉👍

I bought the solo years ago when it first came out - and that third "awning" door was almost the very first thing I said. I can't believe Redverz haven't listened to feedback and managed to bring out a Solo MK2 for all this time
Also - when the weather is bad, take down the inner and that more than doubles your "sitting around" room

    Me again ... LOL
I think the footprint (groundsheet) also helps reduce evaporative condensation from forming on the inside of the tent walls.
I use a micro cloth anyway to wipe it all down before packing it away. Sadly many folk don't have very big gardens in the UK for pitching large tents up when we get home.
Texas has LOADS of space . ;-)
    Keep em coming !

Watching the rest of your comments Dave, i would say the the advantage of the J Door is when weather is really bad and you get to use your stove inside, you can unzip the door from the top -down making a high level vent for cooking. Also good to unzip the outers (front and back) in hot weather and get excellent crossflow to lose that built up heat.
I dont think there is the perfect tent anywhere though is there ?
    Great topic

Man Dave this tent is too big for what I need. That being said you got what you like and that's what counts. Very good review. I'm glad you are enjoying it and got it dialed in for your purpose.

    I meant to add Dave...
I too, always lean my bike away from the sleep side, not just for sleep safety but cos its easy to step off and exit through the front J Door. I have a touratech sidestand foot fitted, but if the ground is soft i have a plastic puck also with me just in case.

Gotta say, I agree with you on your two main points of improvement. I actually wrote to Redverz about the J Door and they were not warm to the idea of redesigning or changing the door. As for the hook or mount for a light on the inside garage area, I’ve got a work around for it but they should have one considering the price of the tent. ‘Big’ tent? I’ve got an Atacama and really appreciate the extra room it provides in the sleeping area. Extra weight? Yeah but that’s a sacrifice I’ll make for the added comfort. Thanks for the video and your opinions on the good and bad of the Redverz tent. Cheers 🥂

I've been lusting after this style of tent for couple of years now. The packed size is as downer, but I like the idea of the "garage" as a changing room, gear storage, porch, etc. Is there a specific reason you chose Redverz over Lonerider and Vuz..?

    • @KendallAdventureandTravel
      @KendallAdventureandTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

it was a toss up between the Redverz and the Lone rider, the nod went to the Redverz because they are located in the US and could ship it faster. I do want the Lone rider to do a comparison video but they seem to be sold out, a allot.

Clearly you do not have to park it inside, but during the Colorado BDR, it rained everyday, I was able to put my bike inside and drape my riding gear over it to allow it to dry, no one else had that option...Dave

This is probably the best video out there for the Solo. I have been wanting a Solo for quite some time and I really need to pull the trigger soon as I have some upcoming trips planned. I too have seen a lot of comments about this model as well as the Atacama being too big. Well, I agree that they are big but I really like being comfortable and being able to stand up to get dressed and undressed. I ride by myself so this model tent would definitely fit the bill. The packed size and weight are inconsequential to me. Additionally, I can use this tent for non-motorcycle camping with friends. The sleeping area being 41" across should easily accommodate my dog and I. I'm not sure if the additional room of the Atacama would be beneficial to me, plus I am not too keen on the additional length. The Lone Rider Moto Tent, which has piqued my interest, may be a good compromise.

It was a great tent, I did sell mine as I was looking for that little extra sleeping space so i bought the Atacama...I really want the Lone rider tent to do a comparison video. Thanks for the feed back and stay safe.

From the research that I have done, the tent quality may be similar. It makes me wonder who copied who's design. In looking at the schematics it appears that Lone Rider may have shortened the garage area and added to the sleeping area which puts it slightly longer the Solo but not as long as the Atacama. I like a more subdued look with tents and I'm not too crazy about the bright red accents on the outer shell of the Lone Rider.

@@SigmaSheepdog 1 thing I like about the Redverz is, it will stand up with only 4 stakes in hte ground, every picture I have seen of the Lone Rider it seems to have the guy lines out. But without first hand knowledge I dont know if its a must.

Dave have seen your video and its very good. was wondering what Touratech bags and size that you have for the tent. I'm older and still motorcycle touring and tired of the small tents just getting up out of them. Thank you for your videos, I'm a subscriber to you now.

I can understand why you would perhaps like the larger Atacama tent over the Solo, you ride a large bike and can carry more whereas, I have a 650 adventure bike and the solo is perhaps the better choice for people trying to pack light in limited spaces.. I like both tents, it's the extreme size of of the Atacama sleeping quarters that (I would only utilize a third of the space) that for me doesn't make it practical.. Just curious, you own both for a few months, do you still feel the same about the Atacamba over the solo(more space)..??

    • @KendallAdventureandTravel
      @KendallAdventureandTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The Atacama is big, cannot deny that at all. I do have another tent on order, and plan to do a side by side comparison video. Two of the best moto tents on the market, the Atacama versus the Lone rider Moto Tent. the Moto Tent seems to be a little smaller than the Atacama but bigger than the SOLO, so will we see. Keep an eye out for that video.

@@KendallAdventureandTravel Thank you for the reply.. I spent a long time comparing the lone rider with the Atacama and they are both similar in material, however the Atacama has the tie string holder pockets and nice air vents(and lone rider sold out of green).. It seems that they are all priced about the same, the only thing I have seen with the moto tent is it appears that you must use guy lines, so the set up time maybe a little longer. The real question is this: Is it really a big tent? Yes, it has a large footprint, but for as big as it is, it is only big enough for a single rider and the motorcycle. You are buying a large size tent that only sleeps one person. (Ergo: Redverz “Solo”) it seems a bit of a compromise. I would be seriously looking into the larger model Redverz, or perhaps the Vuz Moto or Lone Rider garage tents. I mean if it works for you great as for me it probably wouldn’t. I would be a buyer for the larger unit. BTW: You do a great video and highlighted the features of the tent quite well. Be safe.....
