I have both the Atacama & Solo Redverz tents for a few years now. I don’t use the garage to pull my bike inside but as a hangout area. The mesh door on the large D door is a great addition to the tent. It allows air to flow into the tent when the side doors are down. Especially since you can unzip the exterior door top section for privacy. I personally didn’t care for the red interior in the LoanRider MotoTent.
Dave great video and appreciate the time for putting up both tents. I have the Redverz Atacama tent and very happy with it. Visually both tents look close for pack up size.So I'm going for more room on the Atacama. I have an RT and park it outside as I have a nice cover that protects from the weather and packs down very small.I have purchased a few things from European Toy Store out of Florida.I have installed the pannier racks on top which still makes allows the doors to open and the bags that mount on top also and have a rack also from them on my top case. I know that weight is always a big factor but I ride solo. I just got a SW Motech 45 liter dry bag for putting the tent in for bad weather. You have to roll up fairly tight put takes the tent poles etc. Also I changed the line locks on it after the first use didn't care for those. Thanks Dave look forward to the next video. Be safe out there.
I have used my Atacama in Alaska for the last five years and just love. I have no problem putting my RT in it. If I am hunting off an ATV I use the Atacama. If I am using a backpack then I switch over to a Hilleberg Nallo 2. I prefer the Atacame because of being able to stand up and cook in the garage. The quality of this tent is outstanding.
Liked this post all the way from Kenya. These are desirable items but as of now am saving for a Vapor digital speedometer. The review is well balanced and objective. Cheers
Really appreciate your honest review, as an owner of both! I have been considering the Lone RIder tent for that added garage, though my intent isn't to place my dirty or wet KLR. But having an even large area to gather, eat and boil water as well as sleep get s my vote for an American company ! As for an awning...I will and have in the past carried a lightweight nylon tarp that I can string between trees, use as a bike cover or simply extend the weather protection over my tent. Thanks for the direct comparison review!👍👍👍

Hello Dave, Thank you very much for these precisions, all these details which facilitate the choice. Thank you very much for having been able to test these 2 models and to testify to it.. Have a good day ! Jean Pierre
Thanks, covered a lot of the features. Of the 2 I'd pick the Lone Rider as its a kg lighter, every kilo saved makes the journey that bit easier and more enjoyable. The doors at the back also add venting, my Vango Galaxy 300 doesnt have this feature, just a rear vent flap and in the summer last year it was very hot in there as you didn't get a thru draught like you do with these. Everyone I know or have seen at the adventure bike festival (thousands of campers), as well as my friend who has the moto tent, only bring the bike in the tent to work on it when raining, the rest of the time it's outside, so I don't think for most there will be an issue with space inside as the massive bike won't be there. Perhaps were you are theft is an issue, not sure why you insist on that, you didn't say. I think both are great tents for bike campers who want a bit of luxury and space - thanks for sharing.
Theft never has been my concern, for me its the ability to have the bike out of the elements, I can lay my jacket or pants over it, sit my helmet on it to charge, or any of those things without concern of other animals or critters getting in them. And keeping all of that dry. It rained nearly every day in Colorado and I was able to dry my stuff out at night while everyone else bike was covered in dew...Dave
I don't understand your 1 kg lighter logic. A litre of fuel weighs a kilo, just put 1 litre less of fuel in the tank, for comfort of larger tent, and give up 20 miles of tank range .The extra space is a no brainer, especially with UK weather.
@@checker3694 because if you apply that logic to every bit of kit where possible you end up with a much lighter load. Also the lone rider is massive, I don't need even more massive, I'm certainly not the type who would ever have the bike in the tent unless it was to carry out repairs or something like that, but after the bike is back outside
@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 Yes, I would rather have a massive 4ft longer tent, than worry about 1 kg.As I said put 1litre less fuel in problem solved, if you need to lose another kilo put 2 litre less fuel in and run 5mph slower to even out fuel range loss.
I think the material is higher quality on the LoneRider, specifically regarding the California CPAI 84 fire-retardant rating. They’re both 210 rip stop polyester rainflys so that is realistically the same minus the fire rating. Plus, the LoneRider is 2lbs lighter. Really, it’s a pretty even match. I’d feel much more comfortable near any type of spark or cooking inside the LoneRider, but that extra space in the Redverz is not insignificant by any means. I’m looking at both of these for moto camping and car camping with my wife and dogs. I love the idea of that huge garage area for storage and letting my dogs sleep in there on trips with them. I have an FTR 1200 and soft luggage so I feel like my bike may squeeze in a bit easier too. For now I’ll stick to hammock camping though or my little 2 person tent. My buddy and I both fit our bikes under our rainflys on our recent trip to CO and that really got me onto the idea of a tent like both of these. I can get 2 more high quality tents, rainflys, and telescoping tarp poles for a similar setup for the same price as one of these. If only either of them would send me a tent, maybe they could change my mind 😏
@@KendallAdventureandTravel I'm actually really interested in that RedVerz after watching a couple more videos on it. Would be way easier to set up and very spacious with my wife and dogs when we travel.

Thanks for the review. Just the compare I was looking for. When you park your bike in the Atacama. Are you putting anything under the kickstand or is it directly touching the groundsheet?
I use a block of wood. I made 1 that covers both feet of my center stand, I prefer to keep my bike on that, and another is smaller and thicker for the side stand to get it close to upright.....Dave
Damn dude. Cots, huge tents, tires off the mud, enough space to put your gear on standing up? That’s some moto-glamping, not moto-camping. I’ve been slumming it. I’m gonna step up my game now!

What should be your choice….Lone Rider semi rigid or rigid se Motech panniers ? Thanks a lot for your opinion and expérience. Alain from France
Hello Alan, Thanks for watching. So if you are mostly riding on road, it lessens the chances of dropping your bike, I'd go with some sort of hard boxes. For me having 1 key for the bike and all boxes means allot so I prefer the OEM boxes, but there are many good quality boxes. Hard boxes are just a little easier to secure, if you need to strap another bag on them its easier than it is on soft bags, and the hard bags work for a table to enjoy your mid afternoon snack.....Dave
Please forgive me I know absolutely nothing about camping, I thought that the tent required two separate tents; outer and inner, to prevent water penetrating if anything touches the outer tent?
@@KendallAdventureandTravel Thanks for prompt reply, it’s not clear in video that there are two tents, inner and outer. Confirms my suspicion, still no touching outer tent.
Dave very nice comparison, I considering both so this help. I also have a gs, not sure how they’ll fit on bike with sleeping bag & other gear. Are you sponsored by either company or did you purchase the tents?

sorry for all the questions. I have to decide between the atacama and the Moto tent. Which one do you prefer? Does the 4 feet difference between the 2 make a big difference in setting up and taking down?
Are you going to use the tent solo or 2 people? if 2 go Atacama. 4 feet doesn't change the time to set up or tear down. If I could only have 1 tent, id do the Atacama...Dave
@@leongous sorry to do this, but if it is only you, and the fact that the Lone Rider tent allows the ability to use the awning kit and the side door of the garage portion. I lean that way for the best option. If I need to get out of the rain but don't want to inside the tent, using the awning kit is a great option. Does that make sense? Dave
great review but in regards to getting past the bike u could take the box's off place them to the right as u look in , should be able to get past easy then
The Lone Rider moto tent looked so good I went and bought one... but it blew over the first night (most likely operator error, but the tent's got all the aerodynamics of a spinnaker). Please let me know what you'd recommend to make the tent stable and secure in high winds? Thanks!
First of all, thanks for watching. As far as high winds, I have never put out a guy line, I only use the 4 stakes, so I'll ask, did you have guy lines out? Dave
@@KendallAdventureandTravel Thanks for replying Dave. Yes, I used the guy lines but it still went for a walk. I'm a little bit paranoid because I bought this tent to replace my last one, which got blown a kilometre across a poughed paddock early in the morning a couple of months ago. Quick tips: a) it can blow pretty hard near the Orkney Isles; and b) barbed wire fences stop flying tents pretty well, but don't let go too easily...
You say the bike doesn't fit. It will fit if you removed the panniers and put them to the right hand side of the bike where the front door is? With the panniers off there is no issues getting into the bedroom part of the tent. Removing the panniers is not a massive task. Also, I only put the bike in for storage overnight, to stop anyone coming and messing with it.
The bike does fit, I angle the bike in leaving me access to the entrance to the tent. But the bike is a tight fit, front tire hits as does the top box, but it works....Dave
Did you say that the Redverz awning kit also works for the Lone Rider? The Redverz awning kit is much cheaper than the LR kit, so if it works for both I will probably get the Redverz kit.
They are both about the same height in th e garage area, but if you are looking to stand up in the sleeping area the REDVERZ is bigger. Not so much taller but the sleeping area its self is just bigger. Dave
When you first look, they do seem big. But if you think about it it takes up the same space as a smaller tent, I just have to park my bike close to my tent....Dave
it was initially registered as a french startup in Courbevoie near Paris. They ship from France for the EU as indicated on the french web site, I guess they had to adress the brexit by opening a warehouse in the UK. They also have a warehouse in the US and in Australia
I usually pull my bike in so the kickstand leans it away from the sleeping side. I could only imagine the pain of the bike landing on my face while I’m sleeping lol.
I've been looking at both of these tents for quite a while so it's good to see them side by side in the same video. However, there are a number of flaws with this review. You mention a number of times that you never use the guy lines but then also complain about how the tent sets up, the ground sheet for example. The only reason those hooks are coming undone is because the tent isn't set up with enough tension to stretch it out correctly. 12:20 shows just how poorly you set tents up as the base of the Redverz is loose as hell. You spend several minutes stating that the GS doesn't fit in the LR but does in the much larger Redverz but when you actually do it, it seems to stick out even further. Either way, take the damn top box off and problem solved. As for all that 'extra space'... good luck getting to it from the sleeping area with the door closed and the bike inside so while it may have a small amount of extra vestibule space it simply isn't usable wit the bike inside. The Redverz is also far more expensive and has less features such as the pockets that many will use even if you personally don't, the front door that can be used with the awning kit... All in all, it's a really poor comparison as you don't even mention any of the tech spec of either tent regarding hydro-static head and a number of other things but you certainly have a biased, personal preference, probably due to the longer ownership and that is evident.
Thanks for sharing. I'm just surprised that they don't pack down smaller and lighter. As a big fan of Henry Shires' Tarptents (30D double silicone-coated ripstop nylon), I can only surmise that the MotoTent is a much heavier material than necessary. A Tarptent Double Rainbow, all in (tent, poles, extra poles, stakes, bag) is under 3 lbs. These moto tents are huge! Love the vestibule, but does a real biker REALLY need to have is bike in the tent? Space better utilized by the humanoids.
Im not familiar with the Henry Shires tent, These tents are big, as far as a REAL biker, guess I dont know what that is. Ive slept on pic-nic tables and the grass beside my bike, but it the situation allows, Id surely use my MOTO Tent. But you certainly are not the only one who feels these tents are too big and unnecessary.... Dave

What your review very well done. I have RedVerz tent and a great tent. Also what video editing software do use. There a lot of TH-cam videos but no one actually talks about software they use.
Thanks for watching... use Final Cut Pro, it's an apple product. There are many out there that you can purchase on a monthly program, I chose this as its a one time purchase.....Dave
Both of those tents are too large for me and take up too much room on my bike. Do you ride to camp OR camp to ride?
Yes these style tents are big, and not the tent for everyone. But Ive used these on the NMBDR, COBDR and the AZBDR, I like them. When I was soaked from rain, I was able to put everything inside and hang my riding gear from the bike to dry.....But they are not for everyone...Dave
tunnel tents need through ventilation.....so you open the front and back so the wind passes through and you dont get that much condensation
great video, one suggestion better camera cuz damn..its 2021..
Yeah I need to get to the front of the cave right...Dave
sorry for all the questions.
@@KendallAdventureandTravel Thanks! Only me. Doing mostly base camping.
Dave
that was very helpful! very useful to make our decision. thanks
Glad it helped and thanks for watching...Dave
great review but in regards to getting past the bike u could take the box's off place them to the right as u look in , should be able to get past easy then
You are correct....Good Point...Dave
Hi, does the Nemo Cosmo XL fit in the Lone Rider sleeping area?
Yes it does, I used it several times.....Dave
@@Spuggy0453 Dang it......I'm not sure what to offer as advice....Sorry...Dave
@@Spuggy0453 Well since you’re in Orkney, there’s no shortage of large stones. Those should work better than a guide line. 😉
@@ryanmalone2681 Droll, very droll 😆
Strange the redverz has so much more room but pack the same size. Is the material a heavier gauge?
The best explanation I can give there, is the way they are designed allows the Redverz to fold flatter and roll tighter? Dave
How well does the Redverz handle rain and high wind?
Ive used it several times in wind and ever used the guy lines and I've not had one issue....Dave
Great honest review
Warum hat keines der Zelte ein klares Fenster, bei Regen finde ich es Wichtig.
That is a good idea, none that I know have a clear window...Dave
Excellent comparison vid.. - Thanks!
Glad you liked it, Thanks for watching...Dave
Did you say that the Redverz awning kit also works for the Lone Rider? The Redverz awning kit is much cheaper than the LR kit, so if it works for both I will probably get the Redverz kit.
Yes its just poles and guy lines....so any tent poles you have or can get will work...Dave
What is the cot that you're using??
Its made by FE Active....Dave
As far as the height, is one taller than the other to stand up in?
They are both about the same height in th e garage area, but if you are looking to stand up in the sleeping area the REDVERZ is bigger. Not so much taller but the sleeping area its self is just bigger. Dave
Don't think I'd be sidestand towards the sleeping quarters dude ! I have the lone rider moto tent, never had any issues with it all round Europe !
I love the tent, I do place a piece of wood under the kick stand...Dave I know its not smart but Hey it hasn't fell on me yet
Those both look huge
First thought was - holy shit those are big. Good for 4wd touring. I have the Redverz hawk II which is great for day to day movements.
When you first look, they do seem big. But if you think about it it takes up the same space as a smaller tent, I just have to park my bike close to my tent....Dave
Actually Lone Rider is a french company (not UK company) and was created in 2012.
They are located in the UK are they not? Most items seem to ship from there anyway.....
it was initially registered as a french startup in Courbevoie near Paris. They ship from France for the EU as indicated on the french web site, I guess they had to adress the brexit by opening a warehouse in the UK. They also have a warehouse in the US and in Australia
@@nickyvare127 I had no idea, they meaning Lonerider folk, have commented on several of my videos but no one ever corrected me before, thanks...Dave

When titanium utensils are a thing to save weight ..
I usually pull my bike in so the kickstand leans it away from the sleeping side. I could only imagine the pain of the bike landing on my face while I’m sleeping lol.
I agree its the safest thing to do, I use a small board under the center stand to make it a little more stable...Dave
Good video.
Thanks for the feed back, I do appreciate it...Dave
Lone Rider is a Oz Company
Dave
Having a place to cook and hang out is the main advantage.
Interesting. I will take your issues into consideration when updating the MotoTent! ( I design the Lone Rider gear) Thanks for the review, it is vital to keep improving the product.
I love the tent, just a few tweeks, I have and love all the Lone Rider gear.....Dave

Those are entirely TOO LARGE!!! Easy pass!!
Its easy to say that, but in all honesty, I use the same overall area my buddies use, I just park my bike next to me, they can park theirs anywhere, but I get it..Dave
@@KendallAdventureandTravel I was mainly referring to the packed size. When I'm moto camping I am usually packing fly fishing stuff. Therefore I'm using camping gear that is more suited for ultra light backpacking. My tent isn't much larger than a Nalgene bottle
@@betrickey I can see that as being beneficial for sure, I have an adventure tent that fits in a pannier...Dave
These reviews are starting to be laughable…..especially when a company pays to review or gives free equipment away to multiple YT channels all at once. You all repeat the same thing nothing but paid infomercial. Additionally who in the hell would take that monstrosity on a motorcycle?
So based off this video, which company would you say paid me? I can answer that none. I buy with my own money everything you see on this channel if you want to check, search ADVrider.com for Detail, I sell allot of stuff after I make videos. Look at my subscriber count, I dont have enough views to make money or get free stuff, this is a hobby for me. And to answer who would use a monstrosity like this, watch my Arizona BDR video..Ive used these tents on 3 different BDR's...Sorry to upset you but thanks for watching...Dave

Take a look at any adv/motorcycle channel they are all reviewing the exact same tent. Pretty obvious when companies send out free products
