So tired of seeing videos and training course on portraiture where they use a professional model. This is the clearest instruction video on posing I've ever seen and has given me renewed confidence to keep trying at portraiture. Your technique is moving a little towards documentary style and produces lovely relaxed contemporary results. Thank you so much

Great stuff. Only one thing that I was taught back in the film days as a portrait photographer and still bugs me. When doing the hand on the chin have the subject turn the hand to the thin side instead of broadside. That big skin area on a broadside hand pulls attention from the face. Depending on the focal length you are using it can really pull. I noticed it on the one shot of Alanna. Her hand appeared almost as big as her face in shot and was the foreground item. Other than that everything was great. Simple, easy and relaxed for the model yet still provided opportunity for a variety of shots. Thanks.

Incredible useful tips!!! I’m sure I’ll use every single one of them BUT the high shutter speed.
I agree it’s important to keep your images sharp, however, it’s also important to keep the photoshoot dynamic. Lowering your shutter speed creates blurry images but if captured well, they transmit an intense feeling of movement and a certain “grace” to the model and the images.

Ive been blessed by having models who pretty much know their good angles and usually all I have to do is tell them what I envision and they make it happen. However, this well ran dry when I had a model with absolute NO IDEA how to pose and there was me, the photographer, with no idea how to pose her. I kept giving her general ideas but she simply wasn't able to grasp it. I'm definitely trying to learn how to actually pose models in the instance that they don't know their right from their left.
