    Thanks for showing me the engine I may be rebuilding or at least a head gasket. Chasing down an oil leak on front side / rear part. Not the timing cover. Been there done that. It's not tensioner. Same, but leaks out the head between the block. Pure oil. I suspect it's one of the 2 port passages and the head gasket as its' just above the electrical harness bracket and right on the line of the cam tower / head / timing cover.
    Glad I have your vid a reference.

    Just for anyone looking to rebuild their 2AZ-FE on other Toyota models like 2006-2008 RAV4 - to remove the cylinder head bolts you actually need a 12mm head, bi-hexagon or 12 point. The 2AZ-FE after 2005 was modified in some things, but also added the issue with the oil consumption because of the incorrect design on the piston rings. Just removed a 2008 RAV4 cylinder head a day ago using the 12mm bi-hex bolts. Which surprised me how many people showing the 2AZ-FE head removal with 10mm head. Just FYI - that was an engine from the factory, never rebuilt.

    The USA built, 2.4L engine, has several problems. Between stripped head bolts and accounting department designed piston rings, this engine is more akin to a domestic auto maker than a classic Toyota reliable engine.
    The old 2.2L and the corrected 2.5L engine are better & worth rebuilding.

      Yes. I have viewed several videos on this engine and it is not a good one.

    Those drill shavings in the pan looked like they drilled and tapped for Heli-Coil installation. They had a problem with head bolts stripping out.

      @@michaeldvorak5556 I think you're right. This must have had the head removed at some point before I got to it.

    Thanks for sharing the videos. Was the OEM pistons you replaced or aftermarket pistons?

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were aftermarket DNJ pistons and Melling rings. The machine shop could get the pistons and bearings in a set cheaper than I could so I got them through the machine shop.

      @@ValleyMobileAutomotive Thank you! Yes, I rebuilt my 2002 Toyota Corolla and when with aftermarket that I got from Machine shop, too. My question is. Is Aftermarket pistons good or equivalent to OEM Toyota Pistons? What you think aftermarket vs OEM Toyota Pistons? I not sure aftermarket pistons are equal quality as OEM Toyota pistons. I love all your videos...and hope you uploads more videos on rebuilt engines. Learn a lot and can't wait more videos in future.

    Shavings are from a person repairing striped head bolt treads.

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good thought, that could be. These 2.4 have issues with the threads coming out. I thought I was lucky but it could be that it had already happened and was repaired in the past 👍

    Is it normal to be coolant around the cylinders?

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the cylinders are surrounded by coolant. When you drain the radiator most of the coolant comes out but there is always some still left in the block.

      Manufacturer says no. If there are defects it is replacement only.
