Most expert swordsmen: Never spin during combat.
Witcher players: You were saying?
To be fair! Witchers are much faster, stronger, have better reflexes, and senses.
I think they developed this combat style to not waste their increased reflexes and speed. Why land weaker fast blows on thick skinned (and armored) monsters and armored humans if you are fast enough to do a spin for a way stronger strike, in the same timeframe a normal human could land a normal strike.
Basically they're so fast that their "strong attacks" are normal humans' fast attacks. So they just spam strong attack unless the monster they're against is exceptionally fast too i guess.
This is book accurate combat. If you drink every time Geralt or Ciri does a pirouette in the books you'll be dead by page 75
The first part of the video made me have an instinctual reaction with my controller
@@carterf3585 Jesus so true, it gets a little less pirouette as the books go on (currently on the last one) but god damn if it wasn’t 6 books of pirouetting
Witcher fighting in books vs. Witcher fighting in show be like:
The way he fights in the game is closer to the books.
Witcher in books be like "let me prepare well, put oil on and drink some potions"
Witcher in game be like " I'll cut you guys up while rolling around"
In book the way Geralt fights is described as dancing. He's too fast for the eyes to catch. So read the book kid
@@saadashraf1293yes dancing but precise in strikes not just whirling the sword around himself
@@LunnarisLP not once in the books any olis on his swords are mentioned
How developers want us to play: like a Witcher, setting it all up and being precise

You forgot to drink the 20 potions before the fight that the developers want you drinking
Yeah can't forget to sink like 15 skill points into the Alchemy tree just so you can drink an extra potion or two 😂
To be fair, you *do* drink like 20 thousand potions before fights for the op euphoria damage lmao
@@thekiss2083so the alchemy tree is unneeded? Only lvl 6 but so far I've only been upgrading my signs and the fast attack.
@@bradleybreslin945Yes, alchemy is necessary, with three skills in the placement you can have 50% more of the bonus of the mutagens, which are 40% more signal or attack intensity, which goes to 60%; in addition to the possibility of using a large number of potions for an enormous amount of time, all for +10 minutes. But it goes after any of the other skill trees, signs if you go to signs or melee if you go to melee.

Canon wise, Your method is actually correct. Geralt tends to spin when he fights alot.
Most of the time I just start bashing buttons because my drift makes me fail dodges anyway
Geralt "let me just swing this around it's gotta hit something"
the strong attack upgrade where you hold the button down to charge a strike is too good. Never really used it before but now on my 3rd playthrough i can like use it to 2-3 shot every boss (on death march too)
Edit: it's called Rend
Sadly i think it was patched with the new update :( I think it's the attack where he does a huge downward strike charged up
@@harleyx7332 yes that one, but unless the patch was today or yesterday it still kicks ass
@@rhinocort1184 the patch was that December next gen update. Yeah it still kicks ass with the right build
Rend. One of the best skills you can get. I've seen people get 200k damage crits from it. Crazy.
haven't played Witcher 1, but I remember seeing a clip of Geralt attacking just like this. Witcher 3 is for sure one of my favorite games though
i'll try spinning that's a good trick moment
That was Whirl not Rend. Between you and me, if you use the skills to get passive bleeding and poison chance from using oil, and then put the Rejuvenation runeword on the sword, it basically makes Whirl infinite without needing the stupid alchemy build so long as you're getting kills. So picking a sword with good armor penetration when fighting humans is ideal for that. Using melt armor works too.
All of what you just said is shit lol
What is the fire thing in 0:13
That's Igni. It can be upgraded to let out a stream of flame instead of a blast.
How I literally completed the game and none of this happened 💀@@JavscoGaming
You have to upgrade it@@Capymessibara
Alternarive igni cast mode. You can unlock it if you invest points in the sign ability tree. I belive it's in the third row of unlocks, so a midgame skill. Not particularly useful for how slow it makes you, but cool nonetheless
The griffin build is a pretty good way to break combat while using signs with no whirl, i bottlenecked the toussaint fortress at the gate and blasted everyone with Yrden/Igni spam
Grandmaster Griffin gear has the best bonuses. I played just with signs for a while and it got somewhat boring standing there spamming signs, so now I'm playing sign-sword-alchemy with conductors of magic mutation and Griffin gear and it's also OP but far less boring.
Nuking monsters/bandits with a fully charged rend is so satisfying
I do it to sometimes too break the enemys guard the whirl attack i call it my spin to win button even on deathmarch personally i like throwing northern wind the walking behind big monsters and oneshoting them with rend.
I intentionally made my build gimped because I figured it would be too easy if I focused down one tree haha. Fights stayed a lot more interesting.
this is actually gameplay of before and after unlocking whirl
you know, I have over 250 hours on the game and I've never wanted to try the Whirl
I always end up with a sign build, so until the time I get to have whirl / rend, Geralr is so OP that it doesn't really matter.
@@petar_donchev sign are the best for hardest dif when u start new game. On early levels sign are prob only thing that works
Thats accurate depiction of Witcher 1 combat, including camera angle
Yea they definitely nerfed that skill, now everyone use it except me.
I prefer the original way to play. I love to approach each fight as if they were unique while using the weaknesses to my advantage.
I think they wanted to introduce an alternative so that its easier to play for newcomers (in fact check every streamers they nearly all use that skill all the time) caus its not an easy game if u play it right and dont understand that NOT EVERY TRADER are worth selling to lol. But once u get it and learn to focus on weaknesses and understand the in game economy (and where the loots are), u cant go back in any other rpg afterwards. My couter attack timing is so spot on, its the only game that i can do on the hardest difficulty. Plus when u know the weakness without having to look, it becomes instinct lol
Well that is what i enjoyed after 6 times playing through all of it. I wouldnt last a day if a game was redundant
it doesn't matter if you go for weakneses or just spam shit. Its all the same even on Death March
Its an easy game no matter the way you play. Plus saying "you can't go back to any other rpg" is overselling it a lot. If you can't good for you!(?) Don't speak for the rest of us. I for one couldn't beat the game due to accidental overleveling on death march before I got to skellige. Became a cakewalk and the story bored me to death.
Plus if this is the only game you can do counter in spot on thats more of a you problem.
@@justingovas415 Ayo! The same happened to me
This works only on lower difficulties. On Death March you have to combine different tactics (sword, signs, oils, decoctions, potions, bombs) otherwise enemies will wreck you 4 of 5 cases.
ummm... yeah on deathmarch you have 3 decotions at same time and when you whirl you're pretty much immortal because you heal more than they can do damage... no potions, bombs, signs or anything else is needed. Whirl is like the best thing ever for large groups, especially after you put runewords in your sword so that it increases range of whirl - enemies cant even get close enough before dying
Really? I just put on whichever oil, dodge and hit.
Maybe early game, but I'm level 40 something and find the game to be easy as long as I'm doped out. Infinite stamina allows me to be OP. I literally stun locked the first vampire boss fight of the DLC with igni cause I had unlimited stamina. Whirl with unlimited stamina is also OP. In fact, I couldn't imagine how painfully easy this game is on any difficulty below the hardest once you have a decent build. I played on normal for most of my playthrough and died more to gravity than anything. The Witcher 3 isn't a hard game even on its hardest difficulty. Wolves will still fuck me up though. Idk why a pack of wolves are harder than literally anything else in the game, but that's what usually kills me.
Epic, dramatic fight scene VS haha sword spin go brrrrr
I would definitely be playing it the first way, I love variety and anything that makes it seem interesting and cinematic
If only Geralt had the Sign of the Cross twin katana move like William of the Nioh, it'd be phenomenal.
I like PR just because in each game you can use ervery approach, it's true that they tell you the good way, but you can play with your personal way.
I could honestly hear the words of all those scenes where Sapkowski describes Geralt figthing in the developers version
I've become shocked recently by the realization that so many people just set the game to the lowest difficulty, skip all the side quests, and just brute force their way through the main story with bad to mediocre gear and skills. I've always tried to savor the main quest, clear as much of the current area of the map as I can as long as there's nothing prohibiting me to do so, upgrade my character with some specialized builds and a solid well-rounded build for different situations, find all the hidden items and locations, etc... I guess I thought that was the norm. But apparently most people just want to charge their way through the game with as little effort and challenge as possible.
TL;DR - I'm a completionist. I guess I thought most other gamers were, too. Boy was I wrong. 😂
I'm a combat-intolerant completionist, so I don't skip anything, but I do set the game to lowest difficulty and just spam buttons to get through most fights. I'm 1000% sure my skills are laughable. Ask me how much that bothers me. 😂🤣
That's what I did on my first playthrough. Thinking it was a good third person sword combat game. Only now I realize and replaying the game and savoring the story and atmosphere
Being a completionist in TW3 is like a full-time job though
True. Normal difficulty is far far far far easier than death march. Normal is like a joke if you're used to play death march. You can almost ignore signs when playing normal.
It was the same when I read the Total War forums and we were discussing tactics and someone came in and said "I just Ctrl +A click to attack".
I laughed out loud when I saw the second clip. I always play like this when I get the skill
Bruh, I didn't signed for chemistry degree, I had enough problems with that shit in highschool XD I just want to shred some flash big sword, is that rly that complicated dear developers :/
I’m just eat > roll away > quen > strong attack > igni > repeat
Never thought I’d say it but this game makes holding a single button in combat so dang fun
You forgot chugging dozens of potions/decoctions
How most Jedi fight vs how Anakin fights:
The cat school build is the best. Just spin like a Beyblade and watch the world burn to you're feet.

Developers were thinking realistic swordsman, this guy was thinking bayblade
Some of us play on Death March and need to actually kill the mobs. Option A is a must. Not to mention some green tree
“ReNd” proceeds to use Whirl 😂😂😂😂
I must be in the minority then, I find it very rewarding to play combining counter attacks, dodges, signs and bombs. I find it infuriating to spin or rend, and I've never included those things in any of my builds or even spent points on them other than for the achievements.
The first one at maximum difficulty was the best.
All DLC included.

bro, i run cluelessly, naked, on highest difficulty with lvl 12. I accidentally started the main quest from hearts of stone and literally killed toad prince with that ninetailed tiger silver sword that dealt 90 damage to the boss ...
Hahaha i totally agree with you, my first playing method was quen sign + light attack or aard + finisher when i was still in low level, once i manage to reach high level, i will enchant the sword with the longer reach enchantment with rend or whirl + quen sign
Now that Blade From The Bits is now top tier, you can run a steel and silver Severance build with it and Aerondight from start to finish on a NG+.
Man it's been a long since i heard these two soundtracks
That’s why the combat preparation and strategy in The Witcher 2 was superior 👌🏾
Introduced my gf to the witcher. She collected every single item in the game, every single fckin ladder and ashe-pile and was constantly wondering why she was overloaded. First 2 weeks she was too scared to fight ghosts and was screaming in every cave when an enemy appeared.. In fights, there was only full dodge- or full attack-mode, took a lot of time to learn that she can monitor the enemies and only dodge when necessary. When fighting a shield guy, she was just bashing into the shield for 1 minute straight till he droped it instead of just using axii... After finishing the main-story, she realizes that Quen has a passiv shield and she was only using the alternativ mode.. For someone who grew up with videogames and played about 100 different games in his lifetime, it is so strange to see how people, who are new to videogames struggle with the basic controlls and never even get to use any of the strategy or character building options. On the other side it shows what a good job the developers did - the game is fun and can be challanging for total noobs aswell as for gaming veterans, only rarely getting frustrating (by frustrating I mean Dettlafs second stage or annoying archers, when you have no arrow-protection).
