    First of all must say this video is a quality content.
    So i tested this at 1080p Native with my optimized graphic settings untouched, the AA is honestly amazing, a 1080p res on my 1440p no longer look blurry.
    HOWEVER, as an efficient gamer who cap their games at 60fps, the power consumed is exactly the same as 1440p super quality (next to native) on my rig, about 110w gpu and 70w cpu (R5 7500f % rx6800). so the AA and upsampling simply does nothing for someone like me.
    Those who seek better graphical fidelity though gonna have a blast.
    Edit: even worse with someone else's preset at nexus mods instead of default. 130ish Watt at 1080p 60fps. ridiculous

      I guess to be fair, this game is so un-optimized that my GPU is only really taxed when I turn on supersampling 🤔

    If using an amd card, can you just enable the aa and sharpen from the driver to get these results? I'm asking because this looks pretty appealing to apply in other indie games that I doubt would have reshade presets/ban you if using them

    • @akawilly
      @akawilly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can sharpen at the driver level with AMD cards, I don't know about SMAA though. I don't have an AMD card to test that method vs using Reshade

    I’m wondering if there are any performance improvements.

    • @BucephalusHume
      @BucephalusHume 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Best thing to do is test it yourself. However, AA in Helldivers 2 is quite performance intensive compared to other games' AA. so you may notice performance improvements using reshades AA. I've personally found that AMD CAS sharpening in reshade can impact performance quite a bit. So, I use the image sharpening in Nvidia control panel, which also upscales the image if running at a lower resolution and has no performance impact. I do plan on trying the anti-aliasing trick from this video to see if it works well and improves my performance a bit.

      @akawilly  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry I might not have been clear enough there. If you're playing in borderless full-screen then Reshade will still be rendering at your native resolution. If you play full-screen, then your computer will most likely output the game's lower resolution to your monitor.

    • @akawilly

      You should check if the game is running at native resolution. If not, Reshade can't properly smooth the edges.

  • @BucephalusHume
    @BucephalusHume 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Good video. Definitely gonna try this. Would be good if you could put your specific reshade settings in description (ie sharpness level).
    Dunno what rig you have but I've got a 3070 and CAS definitely hits performance for me in other games I've used it in. Maybe that was due to an older version of reshade though. I find Nvidia image sharpening in control panel works really well and has no performance impact whatsoever. AMD's CAS sharpener is in their Radeon software, which also has no performance hit. I would recommend people use their graphics card software to sharpen rather than reshade. Compatible with more games and won't impact performance at all. Only downside is I don't believe you can change it on the fly as with reshade.
    You're so right about upscaling and AA in this game sucking. They blur the image substantially and with both on it looks particularly terrible.
    This forced me to discover a wee workaround that I plan on using for other games also when I need more performance, feel free to do a video on it if you want because it will work without reshade which means you can use it in online games where reshade is blocked. It also allows you much more fine tuning of your resolution while maintaining your aspect ratio.
    Explanation: Being able to reduce the resolution when a good upscaling method or resolution scale option isn't available in-game is a problem, as most resolutions will mess up your aspect ratio. Nvidia or AMD custom resolutions are great for this but (Nvidia's) don't work for me and many others. If you can set a custom resolution with AMD or Nvidia software do that. Since I can't, my workaround was to change the resolution in the games config file. For helldivers you want to keep screen resolution at native and change the render resolution, in other games though you'll just need to change the overall resolution if they don't have these separated.
    For the best results, I use an online aspect ratio calculator, that way I can ensure whatever resolution I set will maintain my aspect ratio and not look stretched. You'll want to enable Nvidia Image Scaling/Sharpening in the control panel or enable AMD's super resolution and sharpening in theirs. Image sharpening slider is built in to Nvidia's, I believe for AMD you need to activate sharpening separately from super resolution, tweak accordingly.
    I'm on a 16:9 4K screen, with graphics set to their highest, except shadows and volumetrics. I run the game at 2880x1620 to maintain 60fps. It looks much better than 1440p. Nvidia sharpening is set to .24 with ignore film grain on default.
    Looking forward to trying reshade's AA, hopefully it has less of a performance impact than Helldiver's AA. Thanks for the video.

    • @akawilly
      @akawilly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the input👍
      To be completely honest, I also plan on doing a future video comparing multiple options for sharpening, I have yet to decide how deep I'm going to go on upscaling choices though. I'm currently going hard on Hellblade 2 making a video a day, plus I have a full-time job🥵, so I can't make all the content I really want to.
      The reason I chose Reshade was:
      #1 - I planned on making a Reshade video for Ray Tracing, but I didn't want to get into the weeds of explaining how to install Reshade. Also people would probably comment asking "what's those other shaders you're using" 😏 so I can point to this video.
      #2 - It makes for good content to be able to put in the thumbnail "FSR quality upscaling in Helldivers 2". 😅 I mean, we both know it's essentially FSR 1.0 quality without any temporal data, but this is TH-cam and you gotta get clicks 🫣😌

      @akawilly damn man. Sounds busy. Definitely focus on what you're most interested in. That way the motivation is still there. Your content is good.
      Your levels tricked worked well. So thanks for that.
      Ended up going down a reshade AA rabbithole myself 😂 ultimately the one you recommended seems to work best in terms of quality/performance ratio. Costs me about 4% performance though.
      I tried a modified version of iMMERSE, DLAA, HQAA and LXAA. Tbh, i find most of them dont do much, at least in the ship. HQAA was best but really performance intensive.
      Anyways, think I've gave you enough information on my own tweaking that spawned from your video. Best of luck with your channel 👍 keep it up!

    Why not just use Lossless Scaling to upscale? Also, has frame gen. This allows you to bump up the settings, while capping your frames to 2x or 3x of your monitor refresh rate, allowing better quality gaming and smoother frames due to the frame gen. It's legit magic lol

  • @GooiYingChyi
    @GooiYingChyi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Arrowhead needs to patch the performance on the PS5. I could only go 1080p, with 60fps, however, the jaggedness of everything is very distracting. And yes, just like you said, Anti Aliasing made it look like 480p with a blur filter applied.
    1440p on the PS5 isn't quite playable, since it renders at 15fps when turning your camera, but up to 30 fps when you stand still. I'm not sure if it is the frame rate lock, or VRR, which my monitor does not support, dropping frames.
    I hope Arrowhead can give PS5 players a balanced mode at 1440p, 60fps (I do not know how that is possible with the current state of the software). Horizon and God of War are both cutting edge in rendering quality on PS5, and I guess I am very disappointed with the rendering in helldivers II. I hope they patch at least the AA.

    MSAA instead of TAA makes game even blurier.

    • @akawilly
      @akawilly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      MSAA super samples geometry edges and taa averages the whole image across multiple frames causing blur and ghosting in motion.
      Let's say you were right that supersampling is somehow worse, what's your point? This video is about SMAA which is completely different 🤷‍♂️
