Broken Navigation Touchscreen Fix | Non Responsive Digitizer Screen | Lexus IS250 IS350 IS-F

- In this video we will replace the broken/unresponsive Navigation digitizer touchscreen on a 2007 Lexus IS250 but should be the same for all 2IS from 2006 to 2013 and most Toyota NAV units. I am using a $20 replacement I found on eBay. After a few weeks of using the cheap eBay version, it is too dark and has a rainbow/polarization effect. I changed it for a better quality $60 one at the links below.

OEM is Toshiba screens (I believe) and would be on the higher end. The ones with long skinny ribbon with "HST" on them are usually varying quality and have rainbow effect.

Excellent! My daughter called Monday saying the display was working but touchscreen was not responding in her 2008 IS250. Searched the Tube, found your videos on head unit removal, guide to replacement, and suggestions for digitizer replacement panels. Purchased the Tanin unit from Amazon, delivered on Friday, and 2 hours later, she was back on the road. My ac vents blew to pieces haha when taking the dash apart but other than that install went smooth and touch screen fixed in less than 2 hrs! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this and show people.

Nice. I had the same issue on my 2008 is350 a few years ago. If I remember correctly, I followed step by step written instructions from Club Lexus. Reinstalled and op's cked good. FYI..... I was still able to drive the vehicle with the Nav / Radio unit out.

Careful with the $25 ones, they may have rainbow effect. There’s usually a protection layer that you might forget to peel that causes this. Other times it’s a inferior screen.
Your timing couldn't have been much better! A few days after you uploaded this, I'm on the way home from work enjoying the smooth ride of my brand new Continentals. I go to lower the fan speed; no response. Uh oh... I guess it's time to order a new digitizer.

Yea no rhyme or reason on why these go out. My car is always garaged and only see sun when I used to commute to office. With work from Home, I haven’t used car much. It just randomly stopped working last time I took it out for a drive.
Great video instructions! I’m having problems with connecting the ribbon tab into the female connector on the motherboard. It will not click in to make a good connection. Does the connector slide open to receive the tab? How or where does tab click into?
It slides toward the ribbon. There is a compression tab that just slides barely.
Awesome video. I had a question. I have an '11 IS350 with the Enform entertainment but on my bluetooth audio the audio only comes in on the right side. I'm highly confident that it is with the Lexus side. Do you know what part does the bluetooth audio. I hope to replace that part.
I’m not sure on the newer NAV units. They changed them after 09. But when I took mine out, the Bluetooth board is on the right side of the unit. There is a slot for it. Maybe a ribbon or connection got loose on yours. If all other sound sources work normal except for BT, then that might be it. If it happens on any source then it might be amp or car wiring. Remember the amp is in a poor location in trunk and can be exposed to water over time.

Hey Binh, while replacing the digitizer I noticed that parts of my circuit board had tiny burn marks. I was hoping that only the digitizer was the culprit but it turned out that it didn’t work after replacement. My next solution is to swap out the entire head unit with a used OEM one from eBay. Do you happen to know if any programming/configuration steps (perhaps with Techstream) would be required or could it simply just be plug and play? I couldn’t find any posts online about this particular approach (only talks of aftermarket swaps)
Should be plug and play with the market it came from.
How did the head unit replacement work for you? My unit does not even turn on so I believe I am on the same boat.
Question my guy, can I put the nav screen in my non nav 2006 2IS? I don't actually want to navigation it self, just functionality of the screen to be able to add the grom v-line2 for apple car play functionality. Because all the after market options for head units are awful.
Not easy due to wiring and other systems.
Hey Binh. I have an '08 GS460. I just got the car about 2 months ago and not too familiar with the NAV system. Should the repair process be similar to your is250? Is it the same unit for both the GS and IS? Looks like mine has the Mark Levinson system. Anyway, my screen has stopped responding to touch yesterday. The screen is still displaying and everything, I just can't control anything thru touch. The only way I can turn on the AC is to hit the physical Auto button. One weird thing is that it seems to be responsive when I go the MAP screen. But when I touch a left portion of the map screen, it moves right like it's out of calibration or something. Found some info on Google that says to start the car and while holding down the Info button, turn the headlight on and off a couple of times to bring you into the "display check mode" but then again I still can't check anything because I can't touch anything anyway. Disconnected and reconnected the battery and still nothing. When this happened to your IS, the screen was still displaying info, just not registering touches, correct? So do you think it's most likely that the faulty digitizer is the culprit in my case? Thanks for the help
Its will be same or similar screen and NAV. These are very common issues from that era NAV screen between all Lexus/Toyotas.
My IS has no factory navigation with screen (just the standard radio). Do you know if I can get the OEM navigation unit and add a backup camera to it?
not easy...check clublexus, there was a thread 15 years ago where someone did it. Its alot of work.

Screen digitizer just went out on my 08 IS350.
$15-$20 part is a great price but kinda intimidating to take things apart. With my luck I’ll either break something else or have left over screws. 😂
May just go Grom Vline. Not sure if It will lose the Mark Levinson though
Need to replace digitizer either way. Grom won’t work if you can’t touch screen.

Hi, will this work if I click info button on side and then I can press maintenance on the touch screen but absolutely nothing else in the touch screen? Highly appreciate an answer 🤞🏻
Sounds like it. When it goes out some parts of screen may work. If it’s same spot then it out.
Hey binh, my screen has a “glitched” broken monitor kind of look at the moment. The touch screen works completely fine and has full functionality. Would replacing the digitizer fix my issue? Or would I need to replace the whole lcd display.

After I replace mine the navigation , destination and menu button doesn’t work.. only the left side work. It show white lines not sure if it’s eBay screen..
Sounds like you might have not connected some of the side cables or ribbons. Check those.
Hi Binh my 06 IS350 screen and climate control buttons stopped working. Do you think this is the same issue or do I need to replace the PCB board?

@@TunerwithKids the screen started getting glitchy and saw a “consumption” screen then now doesn’t turn on and the buttons around the screen stopped working. Radio still plays. I researched online and may need to replace the PCB motherboard inside.

Yes you can drive it. Just make sure the AC is on before removing.
Does that work if my screen turned black and the button doesn't respond but the audio works
Black screen is bad board and dead.

I think wrong connections or forgot some in back.
@@TunerwithKids thank you for replying. Yep, that was it, there's one connection fits in two places and I put it in the wrong one. :) The right one was the one on the side.
Hello I have a quick question Are you ever encountered any backup camara issue like black screen when I reverse backup camara not detected on 2006 IS 250 am been looking around but not success any advice? Thanks
Sounds like camera is dead. It’s 16 years of outdoor exposure is everything on NAV screen still working?
@@TunerwithKids yes Navigator still works . I tried to a reset on camara but it didn't show any connection. I took it a place but they didn't find the problem..😮💨
@@TunerwithKids Hello am here again I did replace the camara for a new one but still no show no image. it has power because when I go into reverse a black screen pops up saying check your surroundings... maybe a fuse?
Probably a bad signal wire between camera and head unit.

Hey man . Does the aftermarket digitizer affect display quality ??
Some do. It’s lens over LCD so some have a rainbow effect but I suspect it’s a protective film that most forgot to peel off both sides.

Is the new digitizer ribbon supposed to look exactly the same as the old one?
I ordered one off Amazon and the digitizer ribbon isn’t wider where it connects to the screen. It’s also moved over to the right 1/8 of an inch which means the new ribbon doesn’t sit nicely into the slot. In order for it to connect, I have to bend the ribbon to the left for it to insert.
When I put everything back together of course it didn’t work. The new digitizer seemed fishy from the start. The company I bought it from was AllWay which had good reviews for a $30 digitizer. I’m pretty sure they sent the wrong one. I saw your new digitizer ribbon looked identical to the old one. That’s why I ask.
Yea it should fit snug. Some are longer but will work.

I’d recommend the one in my description links. It’s pricey but good quality. The one I used in the video ended being all rainbow tinted so I got a refund and ordered the one in the links.

This from Tanin Auto is reputable. Expensive but it will work. The one I got on eBay from the San Francisco seller is now $100 anyway so not much more. I got it for like $50 or $60 last year. amzn.to/355ZhII
Hey so I ordered the TANIN auto 06is250 one and as you can see on the link you sent, it has a longer ribbon cable, than the one you display in the video. Do they all come like that? I hate to take my NAV apart and have the wrong one.

It should be fine, if it fits the plug, just tuck it behind the screen. The video was with a defective screen with the rainbow effect, I had to order that other more expensive quality one on eBay and it had a longer ribbon.

I’ve came across the same problem on my 06 is350. It’s weird , sometimes my navigation screen turns on and off by itself. Then the screen will go white and black afterwards. It’s different at different times. My question is , do you think it’s the digitizer or the actual lcd/tv?
Yours sounds like the motherboard. Can’t fix that. It’ll die eventually.

Your choice, a used unknown history OEM or aftermarket and deal with whatever issues those come with.

my old digitizer screen is not coming off so easily , and i’m using a blade as well and it’s like the glass is chipping or leaving shards , is this normal as i slide the blade under the screen to remove ?
Yes, it’s on there pretty good. I had to slowly cut the tape with a new sharp blade.

No. If you have climate control issues the motherboard might be toast. Broken digitizer still has screen info but no touch.

2009 is250 , navigation screen is completely blank , can’t to anything with climate control, only thing that works is radio, should I replace the navigation system???
Black screens mean dead unit. Needs a new NAV unit.

Get the $60 digitizer from the eBay seller in San Francisco. I linked it in description. His is OEM quality and no rainbow effect.

My touchscreen works on the main screen but not on the others. Someone said when it was detailed they may have used a cleaner that they shouldn't have, I do remember being told not to use cleaners like windex or armor all. Anyone have similar situation, where the screen lights up, changes to dark , works on main screen , back up camera ok , voice commands work. All other screens won't respond to touch. Smh
Sounds like board is on its way out. There are two issues, no response touch with screen lit, just replace digitizer. The second is DOA, black screen and non of the climate buttons on side work, bad board. No way to fix that.
