    Trust me, R5 is TOTALLY sufficient for most people. I have the R9 and only use a bit of its maximum potential. Also, there are many T150, T300, G29, G27, G25 racers who achieve INCREDIBLE lap times without tons of FFB.

      The default level of ffb on my R5 (capped to 20%) is perfectly fine for me, which is right in the sweet spot of immersion and arcadey comfort. It's still plenty strong without breaking your hands/mount.

    • @mementomori4972

      Yeah well, that's the thing. 9Nm is the peak torque. It's the limit of the motor. If you're using max force all the time it's going to clip, lose detail, overheat and fade. You need the torque headroom to prevent this from happening and that's why the weaker bases make little sense. People will buy a 5nm wheelbase and set them to max torque after a week because that's what feels the best to them. That's why the Moza R5 and the CSL DD have so may overheating issues in longer races. I mean, just look it up. It's a known issue.

  • @SinisterSpatula

      @SinisterSpatula Glad it was helpful! Although check my other overheating video everyone thinks I'm in an anti moza conspiracy now because my wheelbase was clipping : ) I stand by my comments from this video that its fine to clip when its detail you dont need!

    I love it. It's so versatile if you actually use your desk for other things (like most people that dont want to spend over £1000 on simracing gear). The table clamp is excellent and the quick release is so solid. I sold my CSL DD for this and not disappointed at all.

    • @ab8jeh
      @ab8jeh ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nicolabaccillieri6503 admittedly I only had the 5nm. Resolution felt a little better with the CSL, however the smoothness of the Moza is so much more of a factor in terms of immersion - the CSL has a notching like feel (you can feel it every 10 degrees rotation or so). Sim racing 604 probably has the best comparative review. In my experience, I found the size of the CSL also meant I was sitting far too back from the screen (again, not having a rig was a major factor). It also flexed way too much, the Moza in comparison is completely solid.

    I've had my R5 bundle for maybe almost a year now I was upgrading from a g29 which is in itself a great little setup. Direct drive is so much better. If anyone is on the fence and worried about the money just get the R5 bundle it's worth it. I would suggest getting a wheel stand tho like the omega apex because direct drive will tear your desk apart. Also the R5 crap pedals that come box with it are VERY basic. I would at least suggest getting the moza spring kit for the brake pedal.

    Nice review! Just got the Moza R5 myself couple weeks back. Finally upgraded from Logitech G25 since I felt the price point was decent. Could not recommend this enough, just the smoothness of the force feedback alone is a game changer! For any new people thinking about getting into sim racing, my advice would be to find second hand Logitech bundle. They are widely available and cheap and after that if you enjoy the racing and you feel you might want more, start saving up for direct drive wheel like the Moza R5. Can prolly sell the Logitech around the same price you bought it. Personally I would not buy the gear driven Logitech wheels with retail prices at this point.

    I just ordered the R9 to replace my logitech G27. Very much looking forward to the setup to arrive... I already replaced my pedals with the SRP (while using my G27 wheel) and those come with these extra grip pads that you can apply to avoid the pedal system to slide away. I also do a cheap work around by cutting a 2 x 4 piece of wood to act like a spacer for the pedals to lean into as the wood butts against the wall. Been sim racing for 15+ years on the cheap... just sometimes need to get clever to avoid unnecessary expenses. Overall, nice video.

    Hello, thanks for the video, i have the moza r5 aswell. I would like to point out some things i think you forgot to say for 7:21. The brakes are indeed doesnt stick to ground wether you have the performance kit or not but in the moza box they include anti slip pads (2 of them) to put them under the metal of the pedals. I don't have the performance kit but i don't think its that necessary. The anti slip pads works really well on floor as i am using like that for a month now it doesnt get that dirty and very easy to clean them. I cleaned them once so far with just water and it even gets stickier when you clean it and put it in same place again. So what i can say is i hope you didnt throw the anti slip pads away! :D

    I got this for home just to desk clamp when I feel like playing for a bit after work or whatever. Its awesome, although at times I wouldn't mind stronger force feedback but it is sufficient and a lot of fun. If I was to ever go to a proper rig setup I would probably get an r16 and dial it down to 9-10nm for certain cars. I'm pretty strong though and I find it entertaining to fight the wheel in a group c car or whatever but I wouldn't want to drive like that very often its pretty hard on your arms! But like you said now to build a high end rig it gets really expensive and my intension was to minimize expense, maximize fun but also I didn't really need a big setup as my goal was to do a bit of sim racing not spend most of my time doing it.
    There is a sim center near me that I go to with friends like 80 bucks a month gets us 10 hours of play time. There setups are like 25k with D-box motion, 49 inch curved screens etc. They use the r9 there although I think it would be better if they had some r12 or r16s. We can also bring our own vr headsets for it so thats also a plus.
    I started out with a logitech g27 at home back in 2016, then I got rid of it. couple years later found the sim center been going there for a few years because it made no sense to invest so much money into a rig when I could get a monthly pass. We used to get the unlimited pass for like 110 bucks a month which was an insane deal. Now the r5 bundle came out at a pretty good price point for playing at home and I need to be around the house a bit more these days so thats how I ended up with the r5. If I could recommend a really fun game it would be Raceroom, they have the sound,physics and ffb super dialed. Older graphics engine but my computer is like 9 years old anyway 🤣
    cheers

A dangerous path to go down because you have to justify yourself spending all this money and you do that by bashing the cheaper stuff. They are not having more fun, in fact I feel many times they seem bored and miserable even with their 15k rigs for the very reason I mentioned earlier.
      I have the r5 bundle and I'm having a blast, I feel no need for more power. In fact I lower it in every game because it's too strong and just take away from the enjoyment of driving.

    Ι have had this for about 4 months as well, really happy overall. I had also gotten the break kit but it was impossible to use while desk mounted. Νοw I have a Next Level Racing 2.0 stand and I can use the kit. It helps but I am unable to use it for more than short amounts of time because it is so so stiff... I have a leg issue. I wonder if other people really want this amount of pressure. It is ok for track racing but for rallying where you lock easily it allows for very little movement to control the breaking.
    Another consideration is that I feel the FFB a bit dampened on this stand compared to desk-mounting.. This is a bit worrying but I need to research more about this stand. perhaps it has a bit more flex which is unfortunate and unexpected. Any comments on all this are welcome.

    I bought the Moza R5 set this Tuesday to replace my noisy, miss/ double shifting up gears, throttle, and brake ghosting Logitech G920. It is a dream to operate, it's smooth, and the silent operation is great. The pit-house software is easy to install and use, tho the pedal settings leave me wondering. You can set a curve from 0 to 100 % in increments of pedal pressure, with me the 100% value does not stay at max yet drops to 0 while at 80% curve, it will stay on the max top of the curve. Why is that, and can I change it in some way?
    Still need to adjust myself to the brake pedal, which I have upgraded with the s lite brake addon. But sorting out the settings of any wheel and pedal set is imho key,, and is fun to sort out.
    And since I've got tendon problems (chronic golfing and tennis elbows)in both my elbows and my wrists ( chronic carpal tunnel-like symptoms) and arthritis in my hands, the FFB strength is more than enough for my usage.

      Do you play ACC or AC at all? On both of those you can see the force feedback meter next to the pedal information, as I showed in the video. If it does, its clipping and consider if you want to reduce the feedback gain, or live with it.

      @MichaelSmithRaces  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but I dont know about this, Moza has settings that are configured for each game, but I think you can also do it manually so I would think that the steering wheel would work, but you would need to potentially map the buttons and things yourself? Hopefully someone else will have experience with an unsupported game...

    Hei
    Nice video. Straight to the point.
    But I have one question why moza not fanateck? Its 100eur more and you have compatibility to PS

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is €100 question! You can always spend 100 more for something a little bit better / different! At the time Fanatec had dropped the ball the 5NM was continually out of stock, as were many of their products. It seems thier supply is improving now... I had planned to use PC rather than PS5 so I was not too bothered and I liked the way Moza have started off! I feel like Moza is more disruptive ATM, which I like to see.

      I bought my moza bundle from them and then had very good service with the usb fault so they were my first choice for buying a rig. Then they came out with prime lite which is exactly what I needed. I started making the videos and people seem to have really liked them! Just start making videos!

    Hi everyone,i am thinking to buy a direct drive wheel system.
    1.Moza r5 bundle with sr-p lite break kit and f1 wheel mod.
    2.Fanatec CSL DD (5nm) with mclaren gt3 v2 ,quick release adapter.
    What do you prefer?
    I heard that the r5 has some heating issues and in f1 game when you are cornering it loses some force feedback details.
    I am so much confused what to buy actually
    Drop your suggestions

      Thanks for subscribing! Yes I agree with you. If you have had the thrustmaster already for a while and know you are going to stick with Sim Racing, R5 bundle is likely not going to be a big enough upgrade for you in my opinion. I would save for R9 or even R12 (if you have a rig to mount them to). Hope that helps!

      Yes I got the T300RS for almost 5 years now and I play casually sim racing titles during my free time. I want to upgrade because of new WRC game but espcially because of Le Mans Ultimate. I think I will conclude to buy R9 and I will try to have a go to R12 first. @@MichaelSmithRaces

    I own a moza r5 set. I bought it 2 weeks ago.
    I have a srp pedal. I play an ACC racing game
    . After playing for an hour, the base gets very hot.
    Base settings pit house ACC settings.
    Does your r5 base also get hot?
    As a result of this heating, the base may malfunction in the future.
    do all passively cooled DD bases get hot like this?

    • @MichaelSmithRaces

      It gets a little warm for sure, I wouldnt be too worried about it as the design is supposed to disapate heat through the body as it is fanless. Maybe contact moza support if you are worried and they might be able to do some checks?

      at the sim center I go to the r9s get used up to 9 hours a day 6 days a week. They have been going strong for a couple years now. The wheels get screwed up at times though, malfunctioning buttons or needs to be reset. Some of the pedals need shims as there not working as well. But this is from constant use. So just using your r5 a few hours a day is probably completely fine.

    Regarding the strength scaling at 1:40, I don't think that's how it works. If the overall power is lower, it can scale down the whole graph instead of cutting it.
    So imagine writing 5Nm instead of 21Nm on the left axis.
    Therefore, you'll still feel a difference in the strength, but the overall power will be lower.

    • @MichaelSmithRaces
      @MichaelSmithRaces  ปีที่แล้ว

      While im not an expert by any means I believe my explanation is correct regarding clipping. What you are saying about scaling is also correct in regards to turning down the strength % so the whole output is reduced at a relative rate.
      For anyone that wants a better explanation check out Aris Drives "How to FFB" he is the expert!
