    Iv had 2 breakdown experiences where Im left feeling like my car held on as long as it could until I could get off the road and stop safely. Look after your car and it will look after you.

    Wow what an ordeal. Makes me waiting for my transmission rebuild seem like peanuts compared to what you went through. Glad you’re back on the road though. 👍

      Definitely not the smoothest metaphorical road we've driven. I've heard of way worse so just thankful we were able to get it sorted out in the end.

    Where is the Saturday concourse for the NSXs on the Saturday? I'm 15minutes from C&O. Love to see the cars.
    Oh man.... Been there granted for less money. Bought my track rat C5 Z06 with a damaged motor from a friend. Supposedly ran over filled with oil on the dyno under prior ownership and wiped the rings. So bought the car, had the motor refreshed. Friend and I did the engine pull and install. Lost a head gasket on the new build, and the cylinder walls looked terrible upon inspection. I found a low mile LS6 shortblock half way across the country. Dropped it in, knock on wood low miles but looks strong.
    The friend that helped on the engine pulls and install had his 130k mile C5 LS1 go on track. Picked up a short block from a shop we knew. Mahl pistons, stock crank rods, balanced etc etc. Again we did the engine pull and install. This time very low pressure on the new motor upon the very first start. Seller didn't stand behind the motor. We lucked out and found a low mile LS6 short block a few hours away but were again doing an engine out. The new motor has a few seasons of multiple days on AMP and Road Atlanta. So between those 2 and another restoration with another story, we have more engine outs than I care to admit to.
    Hope all of yours and our engine adventures are over with and many happy track days ahead of us.

    I feel your pain, I know what is that stomach feeling when something feels or sounds wrong with the car, my bull lasted about a week, when I had to pay for replacement of the power steering pump, rack and pinion, A arm repair, then finding the clutch was in its last days. But I’m glad your car is finally fixed, congratulations, beautiful car.

      Thanks! Definitely one of those "when it rains, it pours" moments. Definitely stoked to have the car back now though.

    Thanks for the video, sorry for the bad luck. Maybe should have gone with the Daley dry-sump oil pump system?!?

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, hindsight being what it is, that would've been cheaper! (though that would assume the oil pump was the proximate cause, so 🤷‍♂)

    WOW!!!
    Now that’s what you call a real story.😳
    It puts my recent crankshaft pulley delaminating and burst radiator problem into insignificance.
    Good luck with Atlanta and hold back (if you can😅) on giving it maximum rpm on each track lap you might do.
    All the best, Clive from the uk.🤠

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Clive! No promises on the holding back. If the old motor put up with it for 10k track miles between 200 and 300k actual miles a fresh motor should be fine. 8k all day! 😁

    Are you disappointed in how SOS and Comptech handled this? I couldn’t tell, but it seems like the ideal situation would have been for them to take full responsibility. It seems like it’s exceedingly difficult to rebuild a C30a. I know of someone else on the west coast who also had severe issues with the motor after rebuilding. I dread the day I ever need to rebuild my C30a. I would probably think twice about selecting SOS, unless you say it’s not their fault.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We legitimately, whole-heartedly, feel that no one involved was out to screw us over here...just to get that off the table. Both parties as far as we can tell operated well within their defined warranty parameters, and we understand that doing otherwise could open them up to greater issues (I was in the insurance industry for a long time so am familiar with that principle). Though I won't get into detail so as not to set a precedent, we did get some help/consideration through the process (although we still bore the bulk of the cost). I've said elsewhere, and I'll repeat it here, that I would definitely not try to talk anyone out of using SOS or buying from CT.

      Good to know from your perspective that those two companies can be trusted. They have been around for a while and seem to have a good reputation in the NSX community. I hope to meet you in person one day maybe at a NSX expo or other event. Maybe to better understand some of the finer details of how they operated fully within their obligations and what responsibilities/risk you as the owner must bear. Thanks for the response and keep making great videos. You’re a great resource to NSX owners worldwide!

    happy to see it back together. the 3.0 block had iron cylinder liners, vs. the 3.2 treated aluminum cylinders. keep track of oil consumption. did the 3.0 have any measurable consumption?

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I know the bore material was different. I'm keeping close track of about everything at this point, lol. The old 3.0 even towards the end wasn't using more than a quart between 3-5k mile changes. Usually less.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, on the second trip home from AZ I probably arrived more tired at each hotel from having senses on pins and needles for anything weird. The worst one was a few weeks after we got home and while out filming the car just up and shut off while driving at slow speed, and then it did it again when parked idling later. Several strings of very choice words in at least two languages later I managed some rational diagnostics and it was just the main relay....🤦‍♂️

  • @neuronbob

  • @robertbcope
    @robertbcope ปีที่แล้ว

    Sigh. I am somewhat familiar with this feeling. Ordered a nice, built 1UZ motor from a reputable builder. A few hundred miles later, boom, rod lets loose. In my case, the engine builder wasn't really interested in helping out, though, so it's currently in the process of a second rebuild.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Irrespective of what it might have meant from a warranty standpoint, I really wish we knew what exactly happened in order to help people avoid whatever in the future.

    • @robertbcope
      @robertbcope ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, very frustrating not to know what to do differently when it goes together again. Obviously, I'm using new and different rods. I would have thought, in your case, the warranty would be, like 100%, since they did the build, install, break-in, etc. In my case, I did the install and break-in, so there is at least some wiggle room to argue I did something wrong (even though I have ECU logs for every minute it ran, etc). Anyhow, the important thing is that the NSX is running and you can enjoy it again...

    What a ride! With the price of nsx parts, wasnt it possible to repair crank, block etc after the failures? My newly rebuilt engine pushes oil up into cylinder three, less than fun after a long rebuild :( Not sure what happened, the shop might have assembled the rings wrong..

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hate to hear you're dealing with some of your own engine drama, best of luck! It's generally accepted that the cranks aren't recoverable once the coating on the journals has been compromised....at least not to the degree that they would last. Our block is theoretically still salvageable, but would require a high skill and very precise machining. (Read $$$$).

    Wow that’s a lot for factory spec rebuild with a 3.2 short block

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For context the $30k figure is only because we had to pay for effectively two rebuilds at roughly $15k each including odds & ends like freight and stuff.

    • @LaurenDaddy
      @LaurenDaddy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think SOS should have done the second rebuild for free or at least give you a big discount

    • @alexabc123
      @alexabc123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't seem like that much for two rebuilds, parts, labor, for a specialty car. That would probably be the cost of a single rebuild of a 90's Porsche these days.
