John Davis has always been the auto reviewer all rivals are measured against.
Until he says "Front facia"
That's what he said
5.6 to sixty!? What happened to vehicles! That's about as quick as a mid-90s Mustang Cobra.
Its always comforting to hear John Davis, the man, the legend.
I hope he will be with us for many years to come.
I am starting to see more of these on the road. Up close, very nice, rugged. I am very curious what this power train will do for the new Tacoma.
Same here in atl!...and lyft drivers too!!
The real G.O.A.T? The one and only John Davis!!!!
Damn, that thing is as fast to 60 as my 2007 Mustang GT with a 5 speed was!
The Grand Highlander might be Toyota's sole crossover with three rows should the next-gen regular Highlander become a two-row SUV.
Why a 6 speed transmission? My 2021 Highlander has 8 speeds
They still have the 8 speed option with the different engine.
My guess is the 6 speed offered has better gearing for the particular engine setup
John Davis is a national treasure.
I had a 2008 Highlander Sport for 11 years. Great car - it had the 270 hp 3.5 liter V6, full time 4wd, and it still got great mileage - 27 mpg on long trips. The biggest problem with it was the lack of room behind the third row. I solved that problem by buying a roof rack. Cost a total of $400 including installation of the roof bars. This Grand Highlander is a gorgeous car but a 5000 pound weight is a lot.
Sorry its not fulltime 4wd. It runs primarily fwd and sends power to the rear when it detects slip. That's why it doesn't guzzle gas like an older sequoia, 4runner limited, landcruiser or gx/lx which are fulltime. All four wheels are always being powered through a center differential
It weighs more because its a bigger vehicle than the regular highlander! But this Behemoth pumps out more power and is Faster than the regular highlander. Just what I need! I'd take this over the regular highlander any day!
Considering its a bigger vehicule WITH hybrid batterys thats not bad
400 lb/ft out of a 4cyl? Amazing.
Gorgeous and safe vehicle ❤
Terrible driving dynamics but quick, this sums it up for me. I pass
Still awesome reviews even after all these years. .
Grand Idea
The 2.5 litre Hybrid power train is also seem in the Sienna minivan
3.5 engine ❤❤
The original highlander was a perfect size. Subsequent ones became too bloated. This one isn’t anything like the highlander, original or current version. Why would they even use that name.
Well you are wrong, the newer ones are better in EVERY way
Very disappointed that ME didnt talk about the hybrid increasing mileage by 10pg (non max) in XLE and limited; have seen this numerous other places but would have liked to see someone with MW creds to verify. 😔
I am a Toyota fan and have owned several including the one that I presently own. But I have no idea why the designers ever thought these huge grills were ok. Just my opinion of course but I just don't see the need and I think it is an unattractive distraction from the vehicles overall appearance.
Will sell like hotcakes!
They could’ve Redisigned the Highlander and grew the standard highlander
Unpopular opinion but i like the design of the regular highlander better tbh
I don’t feel it’s accurate to compare the middle row or rear row to a minivan in terms of space or ease of use especially if car seats are involved.
There’s no front bumper. Won’t that spike insurance rates?
Considerimg my 2010 highlander has 95 sq ft of cargo space to 97 i think ill keep my current a little longer
I don't know how they rated it at 95 but it's rated 42cf vs. 57cf behind the second row is telling in how much bigger the GH is. That is a nice body style of regular highlander though.
Nearly 2 seconds faster than the last V6. And better mpg = winning
And sounds horrific
“High-Linder”
Maybe he’s saying High Lender referring to the payments on it. 🤣
Excellent review, deserves much more views.
I would buy a V6 today if they had one!
Another appliance is born!
another TROLL born!
@@allentoyokawa9068let’s be honest tho. They’re not lying.
How old is this cat?
A great option, but definitely feel like it’s priced $5000-$7000 more than it should be, and creating into Lexus territory. Would be happy with a Lexus TX, except the design looks overly plasticky compared to the NX and RX
Creeping into Lexus territory
Well your WRONG, and the price is PERFECT
Works great for the Toyota family with the dad in a Sequoia TRD Pro and the mom in a Grand Highlander Platinum, with a Supra A91 as their toy.
If you’re a millionaire
This is the one to get for the fossil fuel/ev turnaround. Lucky for the others oil still cheap. It's clear that the transition will take longer than anticipated. Kudos to Toyota they didn't go blown out ev and hybrid the whole line-up. Wise company that's why is number one around the world.
❤
Man, Toyota’s are just so boring to look at, and even worse to drive in my opinion, I’m sure it’ll be reliable and that’s what people care about. Not my cup of tea tho.
troll somewhere else
I don't know about "Grand", they should have just made it a Capstone edition with the regular Highlander name.
I will like but I don’t have money I hope and bebelive in god’s
Nothing grand about it, 4 cylinder engines don't cut it in this application even with turbos & electric motors.
Minimal needs a 6 cylinder.
Its sooooo ugly, but the inside is fantastic
Compared to the standard highlander, this vehicle is gorgeous.
