There's another trim of the Grand Highlander in the USA that's higher than the limited: the platinum. That's the one I have. The big differences are the second row heated/ventilated seats, heads-up display, and larger 20" wheels. As someone who drives the Toyota GH, I don't see a lot of meaningful differences between the two to justify paying the extra $10k to $20k for the TX. The Grand Highlander also has a more fuel efficient hybrid powertrain whereas the TX has the more expensive and performance-oriented hybrid max powertrain. The TX will also be coming out with a PHEV version, the TX 550h+, which the Grand Highlander will not have that option for this model year, but the differences between the PHEV and the TX 500h are HUGE. You can get something more luxurious and with 4-wheel steering with the 500h, but you cannot get those features with the TX 550h+. The TX 500h will have a panoramic glass roof whereas the TX 550h+ will not have that option. Basically, you're paying more money for the powertrain, and you're losing on some of the luxury features of the 500h. For me, that's a deal breaker. Of all of the available TX powertrains, the 500h is the best one. For the Grand Highlander, I would say that the Hybrid Limited powertrain and trim are the better options. You lose out on some of the features from the platinum trim, which are only available for the gas and hybrid max versions, but you gain incredible gas mileage. I would take the gas mileage over more performance or luxury features any day of the week.
@LivingInAnInverseReality save your money and try living frugal. It took me years of saving. I've had bad luck in past with cars etc. But last one my Toyota that I was going to sale has 218,000 miles and after new shocks for leaky shock and brakes and new alternator. I decided time for new Toyota. I am keeping the old just in case. I worked my butt off my whole life until I couldn't no more. Had to get out if expensive California . Lost my house that we built half of. Raised my kids there. But had to retire and move to where we can afford to live. I been very careful. I do have car payments now but no credit cards. I don't go clothes shopping until I'm desperate and like Wal mart if need jeans. I'm not ine to spend on hair make up etc. But I wanted a vehicle I'm not paying a ton on gas if gas goes up as I assume it will because the push in electric cars less cars needing gas. Those oil companies want to make money. Also I figure I can camp out with my dog in those long trips to go visit my kids who live a few states away. I'm really hoping this was worth it for the long run.
I would have an advise to all car reviewers: spend less time explaining the styling (that people see and can evaluate with their own eyes) and spend more time explaining the function and user experience.
Good comparison. I currently drive a Lexus and just assumed I would like the TX better. However, based on this review, I actually prefer the Grand Highlander. I especially appreciate buttons over touchscreen because with buttons you don't have to take your eyes off of the road.
I’m honestly torn. The Grand Highlander has a MUCH better looking front end and grille than the TX but the interior on the TX does have that level of comfort that is above the Grand Highlander.
Essentially the same vehicle and apparently both starting to have similar issues according to forums with front axle problems and door closing required slamming. Many complain the Mark L. Stereo very weak and needs more bass.
TX is well worth the premium price because extra quality was added at factory mostly better and more materials as a Lexus should be. Lexus dealers network, loaner car convenience should also be considered.
I gotta second this. Lexus service department and treatment are far above and beyond that of Toyotas. I can relax and trust my car is fixed and not having "dumbie" lights on my dash once I receive the car again.
Both vehicles have an added cost that comes with the purchase. This cost is not optional for either vehicle. I tested both vehicles the same day and chose the platinum Grand Highlander because you get more bang for your buck. The added cost is a $5500 Lexus performance and Service where the Toyota is $1699. So ask yourself, how much would you be willing to pay for refinement with the Lexus over a well refined balls-out Platinum Grand Highlander. If you asked me, paying $13000 more for a badge is ludicrous.
Something he didn't mention is that the TX has more structural welds and adhesives so it will drive better. Multiple reviewers have mentioned that at the Hawaii drive event, they (or a passenger) were feeling car sick in the 2nd/3rd rows on the mountain roads. So - the TX should be better composed on the road and be quieter inside. Also, rear wheel steering probably helps the driving dynamics, and certainly cruising the parking lot.
Thank you for your comment! I actually didn't have the info on the structural welds at first but it's definitely something I'll touch on in the future!

Boom noise normally comes from one or more of the panels in the vehicle. If you can pinpoint the panel where the noise comes form, like you said in the 2nd row floor panel, you may open up that area, best to the floor sheel metal and put a sticky damping pad and it will likely take care of it. The hard part is to find the exact location and panel or panels. Boom issues need to be well addressed in the vehicle design stage. Hope this helps.

Currently have a deposit on a Limited AWD GH with are 2.4L. Has some options added I don’t care for. Now I see a local TX350AWD base, that’s within $3000. I drive 2500 miles per month. 6’3, 295. Comfort is premium. You have to manually tilt/telescope the steering wheel on the Highlander vs the Lexus. Also hood prop rod vs struts. Painted lowers vs exposed plastic. Better layout ie the 3rd row in my opinion. Longer warranty. And the dealership experience, especially for Service, is big. Own a ‘23 GX460 currently. Now thinking of getting the deposit back and going for just a base 350 AWD. Don’t need the panoroof or other bells/whistles.
@@PerformanceLexusNiagara got the TX! And $2000 off! And $500 Conquest money for owning a competitive make. Had to finance with TFS but Navy FCU is ready to refi much lower once I get my first statement. Win-win. Got my deposit back too.
Would be great if they had a removable center seat in second row for all trim levels (like pilot; but somehow still have arm rests when center seat is removed)
For me, not being able to buy the highest trim levels with a 2nd-row bench for either of these is a deal-breaker. Someone please tell Toyota & Lexus HQ that some families have 5 members, as in 3 kids. I want to seat all 3 kids in the 2nd row, freeing up all that cargo space for all our stuff (especially for a road trip.) As was mentioned, Pilot and MDX both offer a removable center seat in the 2nd row in the highest trim levels.
@@jsfbay1 best can do is a GH limited and then option in 360 camera, the panarama roof, dash cam, or the bigger tires, . But it seems you cannot get digital camera rearview mirror or heads up display with limited/bench seat.
@@elliott3991 Yeah, it's a problem with so many brands. It forced me to buy the top trim Pilot Elite, all because of the 2nd row bench seat (with removable middle seat.) I had a number of complaints about the Pilot, and very much wanted to get a Toyota, but the wife insists on the 2nd row bench so we can put all three kids in there, and still have all the cargo space behind the 2nd row.
The biggest disappointment is when you go to the top tier levels of both of these vehicles. On the TGH Plat edition, you pretty much get all the bells and whistles including a Pano Roof. The only exception is that you will still have a 2.5ltr Turbo Hybrid Max motor. Whereas the Lexus TX550h+, you will get everything luxury options maxed out BUT...NO PANO Sunroof!! Only exception is that when it comes to the power train, you willl be getting the tried and true 3.5ltr 2GR motor and it's also an E-Hybrid which is awesome. So my take on this is that for the price range of the Lexus, I feel that they dropped the ball in the interior features but knocked it out in the powertrain department. The TGH Plat Edition, feels more like bang for the buck but time will tell how the motor's reliability will be since it is brand new. Toyota is VERY WELL known for reliability but I feel that Toyota should have at least given the same motor since the tried and true 2GR V6 has been their bread and butter. I guess like he said, "Don't need a proprod since you'll barely open the hood" It has been considered the Maytag of vehicles. I understand why Toyota has done this because if it is that reliable, then it will not be back for anything maintenance issue. And ofcourse they have to make money somehow.
Where can I find that rear cargo floor liner that covers the 3rd row? All of the Toyota dealers I spoke to said they don’t make it or it’s not in their catalog.
If you’re planning to use the 3rd frequently, the TX is what you want. The TX has a push button seat release compared to the pull lever on the GH. That would suck to pull each and every time especially if you’re a kid
A reason why I'm leaning towards the TX is bc I can get a HUD and digital rearview mirror with a 2nd row bench (luxury trim) but can't with the grand highlander (platinum doesn't offer 2nd row bench seating).
YES! AND they are very good! With multiple settings and programs etc. Mostly found in the flagship vehicles like LS. HOWEVER for the new 2024 GX you can get it in the higher packages!
Great review! Comparing similar trims Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum vs Lexus 500h F sport performance premium - would you pay 10k difference? 59k vs 69k. Currently have a Subaru Ascent and looking at these two SUVs.
We have the Ascent as well, and I don’t think the Lexus is worth $10k. And it’s not just $10k bc the Lexus requires premium gas and will be more expensive to service. So over the life of the vehicle it will come out to more that $10k
I have a Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Venza. I think instead of replacing the Pathfinder I will replace the Venza with a Crown Signia, which is hybrid 234 HP and 35 mpg and save the Nissan for big hauling.
Toyota hybridmax and some TX powertrains have major power surge or stalling issues. There's a serious problem with the gas engine and electric motors syncing up
It’s okay. The Hybrid Max power train should be an option. I agree with the fact that the interior is Very Bland. Aluminum pedals and a flat bottom steering wheel would have been nice.
I can tell you are trying really hard with this review. But I wish the camera man would chill a little. Also can you please compare the two cars with more dimensions? Like the trunk space of Lexus is 20.1 cubic ft. And Toyota is 20.6 cubic ft. And maybe also go over the height, length, width? Cause I might as well just do my own spread sheet. I’m expecting to watch this without having to go google the dimensions. And it would helpful to demonstrate how the electrical doors work on the Lexus. This is my point of view on your videos can improve.
Curious why engineers made the center consoles so wide. Nice vehicle's thats one of my only pain points. Im 6' 235lbs on long trips these are not as comfortable as they could be.
But the million dollar question is, does the Lexus have self parking or does it only have the birds eye view and you have to manually park yourself? My 2017, Toyota Prius prime parked itself but my RAV4 prime didn’t. Does Lexus fix this?
Ahh sorry about that! Packages might be different depending where you live! For the 500H we only have FPerformance 2 and FPerformance3 and the 3 definitely has the pano roof!
@@PerformanceLexusNiagara I am learning way too much as I continue to wait on a car to come available on allocation. I have been waiting on the GH & TX since before they were revealed and am quite frustrated with how both Toyota and Lexus are controlling the available inventory for too long. I am about to decide on something totally different as I may be waiting another year to settle for a color/package that is not preferrable. It is very frustrating!

Excellent review! I really like Toyota's business strategy with these two brands/cars. If you think you've made yourself enough money in life but still want to live a reasonable life and want to buy a car, which will come to match up with your status, then go ahead and get yourself the Lexus, because unlike the German competitors, the Lexus will stay with you for many, many years without causing you troubles because they just never break. However if you're just thinking what to buy across the Toyota's cars line up, it means that you don't feel like needing to some how stand out, plus you might be after that third seat in the third row, then the Grand Highlander is the best one for you. These two models are perfect in their own classes. That's a very wise move from Toyota! Although I've always been a great fan of the German cars, as I grow up, I'm coming to value reliability over stickers on the mask. After all you can only drive as fast as the signs allow you to. On the other hand, Lexus are very good driving cars.
Will the LX ever get the new Lexus tech? It’s such a shame that it doesn’t have the new intelligent heads up display, new gauge cluster and panaromaic roof. Plus ! Massaging front seats!! It’s silly man for a flagship SUV
This tx is a limited trim of the Highlander. Lexus has gone a bit downhill. Tx was rushed and its build not much different from GH. Gone are the days when lexus went overboard to make their cars better insulated and comfier than german lux cars.
Grand Highlander wins the exterior competition by a mile. Internally you'll be hard pressed to find a difference between the two vehicles that doesn't include a simple change in logo. So from my money the Grand Highlander is the better vehicle because you get A better looking interior and 90% of the interior for a lot less money

@@PerformanceLexusNiagara got the TX! And $2000 off! And $500 Conquest money for owning a competitive make. Had to finance with TFS but Navy FCU is ready to refi much lower once I get my first statement. Win-win. Got my deposit back too.
Congrats! How do you like it? I have the same TX 350 luxury in this review but in caviar. @@docholiday9562
Would be great if they had a removable center seat in second row for all trim levels (like pilot; but somehow still have arm rests when center seat is removed)
Totally agree
For me, not being able to buy the highest trim levels with a 2nd-row bench for either of these is a deal-breaker. Someone please tell Toyota & Lexus HQ that some families have 5 members, as in 3 kids. I want to seat all 3 kids in the 2nd row, freeing up all that cargo space for all our stuff (especially for a road trip.) As was mentioned, Pilot and MDX both offer a removable center seat in the 2nd row in the highest trim levels.
Totally agree! Somehow they think big families can afford the nice one!
Do both of these cars offer adaptive headlights where they turn when going around corners so you can see better ?? Thanks
Loved your video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
If you could also do our next videos, a mile per gallon comparison in the engine size
Where can I find that rear cargo floor liner that covers the 3rd row? All of the Toyota dealers I spoke to said they don’t make it or it’s not in their catalog.
Oh no way! It's an accessory that we sell all the time here! However at one point there was a shortage!
Both cars are great!
I don’t really dig the new Lexus front end styling, but love the interior and rest of the exterior!
It looks better in person...ran by one the other day and was surprised at how nice it looked in person.
yes!!! Waiting for one! Till recall is over
Please explain the comfort level of the driver seats. Is the Grand Highlander Platinum or the Lexus TX more plush and comfortable?
The TX front sides reminds me my Gillette 5 blades machine😀
😂
Mach 3
Does the TX have double pane windows at the front?
Is that TX 350 Premium or Luxury?
If you’re planning to use the 3rd frequently, the TX is what you want. The TX has a push button seat release compared to the pull lever on the GH. That would suck to pull each and every time especially if you’re a kid
Useful video. Thank you. 👍
Thank you for the overview
A reason why I'm leaning towards the TX is bc I can get a HUD and digital rearview mirror with a 2nd row bench (luxury trim) but can't with the grand highlander (platinum doesn't offer 2nd row bench seating).
I think the Grand Hylander is better for the price.
Great comparison!
Thank you so much!!!
Premium fuel in the Lexus is a deal breaker that’s about a $10 to $15 difference when filling the tank
Whats the song at the beginning?
I would go for the TX, has a more luxurious look and better materials. Great video!
Thanks for watching!! I love the TX too!
does the black glass in the back of the TX reduces the heat penetration more than clearer glass on highlander?
Dustin 😊 ❤️ We Love You & Your Awesome !!! videos ~ Love Me Sum Lexus ❤❤❤ 😊 🎉 Happy New Year Dustin 🎉.🥳🎉🥳🎉🥳 Your The Best 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the continued support!!!!
Does any of the Lexus vehicles have massagers in the driver and passenger seat?
YES! AND they are very good! With multiple settings and programs etc. Mostly found in the flagship vehicles like LS. HOWEVER for the new 2024 GX you can get it in the higher packages!
If you want to go with the “hybrid trim” of either make, ONLY the Grand Highlander offers the panoramic moonroof for the Hybrid.
17:21 Actually, second row on the Grand Highlander is heated and cooled as well.
Great review! Comparing similar trims Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum vs Lexus 500h F sport performance premium - would you pay 10k difference? 59k vs 69k. Currently have a Subaru Ascent and looking at these two SUVs.
Thanks for watching!!
We have the Ascent as well, and I don’t think the Lexus is worth $10k. And it’s not just $10k bc the Lexus requires premium gas and will be more expensive to service. So over the life of the vehicle it will come out to more that $10k
The TX doesn't have a Hybrid option. Correct?
Which one has the V-6 engine and which one has the better all wheel drive?
I have a Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Venza. I think instead of replacing the Pathfinder I will replace the Venza with a Crown Signia, which is hybrid 234 HP and 35 mpg and save the Nissan for big hauling.
I'm also strongly considering the Signia. Just wish the Hybrid Max powertrain was offered. Then it would be the perfect vehicle for me.
How much bumper though? For the inevitable fender bender.
Toyota hybridmax and some TX powertrains have major power surge or stalling issues. There's a serious problem with the gas engine and electric motors syncing up
OH no! I haven't heard or experienced of this yet, but I'll definitely keep an eye out!
It’s okay. The Hybrid Max power train should be an option. I agree with the fact that the interior is Very Bland. Aluminum pedals and a flat bottom steering
wheel would have been nice.
Does the grand Highlander have self parking?
Is there any cool box in either of the cars ?
I can tell you are trying really hard with this review. But I wish the camera man would chill a little.
Also can you please compare the two cars with more dimensions? Like the trunk space of Lexus is 20.1 cubic ft. And Toyota is 20.6 cubic ft. And maybe also go over the height, length, width? Cause I might as well just do my own spread sheet.
I’m expecting to watch this without having to go google the dimensions.
And it would helpful to demonstrate how the electrical doors work on the Lexus.
This is my point of view on your videos can improve.
are they both super thin sheet metal or does the lexus get better panels?
To me it seems like there is more insulation on the sheet metal of the Lexus. However this was mainly noticed on panels like the Hood!
Grand highlander…. 1st thing i always look at is the look of the car… and the interior is still nice.
Me too!
Don’t cheap out . Better paint material , better sound system , better sound deadening and NHV materials and better suspension tuning in the Lexus
I wish a TX350h was available. Any chance it’s a future option?
Not for this model year.
I think there is a chance in the future for sure! I haven't heard anything yet though!
Toyota/Lexus is planning on releasing most of their models in Hybrid soon... basically their form of cutting down Carbon emissions
Dude where the hell is Saint Catherine ????😮
I learned that the TX 500h Premium does not offer the pano roof when I test drove it. It seems there is one in the model you are reviewing here.
I have been a Toyota customer exclusively since 1984 and was considering Lexus this time. I am about to decide on something totally different as I may be waiting another year to settle for a color/package that is not preferrable. It is very frustrating!
@@Cindy-gg1bs i put down deposit for GH the day after Chicago show in Feb 2023 and picked up my GHHL in July 2023. If you lining up for the Max Platium, each dealer should have at least 1 delivered in Sept. Maybe it wasn't for the colour you preferred.
Is there a non-plug-in hybrid?
Yes! Actually most of the ones we sell are Self Charging hybrids!
3 Lexuses household here. money difference aside, I do like the GH more in terms of design.
Anyone notice the viber front hood at high speed 🤔
Very well said!! Thank you for watching!
I agree. TX is the one for me. Lexus is quieter than toyota. Its not even close.
front end of Lexus TX look like Venza
Did I hear you say council when referring to the console?
I just re-watched the clip and you are right!! I wonder how many years I've been saying that wrong lol! Anyway thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video
Will the LX ever get the new Lexus tech? It’s such a shame that it doesn’t have the new intelligent heads up display, new gauge cluster and panaromaic roof. Plus ! Massaging front seats!! It’s silly man for a flagship SUV
What's the name of the color on the TX?
Cloud burst
Can you remind us during comparisons which ones have wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. That is a main thing when deciding. Thanks
Both
Lexus TX ❤
Toyota GrandHighlander ❤
The TX front one reminds me of a Kia for some reason, we got the GH a couple days ago
Next trying with gh platinum he has same trim level at lexus
The Grand Highlander also looks more masculine than the Lexus TX. Depending on who you are that may be a plus or minus
not for 10k
Lexus needs more to be extra 10k more
so give me the 10k discount and i will buy one...
Thanks for the review
Nice video, great information. Need to fire your cameraman! What's with all the herky jerky jumping in and out ? Love the text overlays!
Thanks for watching!!! I'll have to tweak that for future videos!!
Awesome video! Well done and yes, I agree the Lexus is much nicer and more about Luxury!
This tx is a limited trim of the Highlander. Lexus has gone a bit downhill. Tx was rushed and its build not much different from GH. Gone are the days when lexus went overboard to make their cars better insulated and comfier than german lux cars.
I personally like the front end of the Toyota more.
On the other hand I prefer the rear end of the Lexus and I prefer the interior of the Lexus.
Something he didn't mention is that the TX has more structural welds and adhesives so it will drive better. Multiple reviewers have mentioned that at the Hawaii drive event, they (or a passenger) were feeling car sick in the 2nd/3rd rows on the mountain roads. So - the TX should drive better and be quieter inside.
@@jsfbay1 I drove both a couple of weeks ago on the same day. If you close your eyes you couldn't tell the difference. They're both exceptional in how they feel to the drive. The issue is you cannot tell the difference between the two.
@@jsfbay1 And I'm currently a Lexus owner, so my inclination was to steer myself more towards the Lexus but it just doesn't make sense once you drive them both back to back.
I'll take the TX
I prefer the Grand Highlander because when you sit inside the Lexus TX you feel like you’re in a Grand Highlander and not a Lexus.
Highlander is for me, even though they are basically the same SUV.
They’re quite different on a technical level
Personally not a fan of the lower plastic trim on the Highlander and the fact that it stays on the limited and platinum trims…to me it makes it look “cheap.” At the same time, I’m not 100% on the Lexus front end…
would be interesting to compare upper trim Grand vs entry TX - price and safety features. There is probably a price level where the two intersect.
The luxury features of the Lexus make it the clear choice for us. However, the Acura MDX tops it.
I would get the highlander and spend the 10k on a second beater car. The TX is nice though.
Worth mentioning that the Lexus drives and handles a lot better and better sound insulation>
If you want the TX then get it as the GH will disappoint in comparison. I would rather own a Palisade/CX-90/Telluride than the GH after seeing them all and driving them all, but the Lexus is a step above them all for sure.
Trust me, electric vehicles will NOT be all that the world thinks, unless the world makes it e-legal to make / sell gas / hybrid vehicles
This is hybrid, not a complete EV. I personally prefer hybrid.
The turbo max 2.4 liter hybrid engine has more than 360 horsepower
As a daily driver/family butt hauler, either one is great...
Listen to your bank account to achieve your final decision. 😉
