Tee-Jay The Stereo-Bargain-File First thanks for you reviews. Your passion for these fine pieces of industral art is inspiring. I have a request. Many are talking about the Pioneer N30. However after looking under the hood of one of these with you during one of your previous reviews the Onkyo TX 8160 is the exact same receiver except for the triggers on the back, and the front panel is aluminum instead of plastic, and of course the way the controls are arranged. I have the Onkyo TX 8160 and it is a great sounding unit probably just like the Pioneer N30. Open the hood on a TX 8160 and you will agree.

Tee-Jay, thanks so much for adding this review and comparison. It further confirms the Iota stack's performance and value. Plus it's entertaining. Lots of time on our hands these days and your presentations are always appreciated!
Dude, this is an excellent video. Pros and Cons very well described, sound characteristics very well described. Range of different speaker prices/applications very good. This is a really good "shootout." Great Job Teejay

To be fair, lot of it is probably true. I work at an essential store that is till open and people are still coming in and shopping without a care in the world.
Thanks for the review. I've been eyeballing these very two setups to power my new NHT C3's due to arrive tomorrow. I was ready to buy the Emotiva BasX 300 to extend off the preamps of my Harman Kardon AVR 335 that I've had since 2005. Then I ran into this IOTAVX stack and all the glowing reviews. I think its a winner and a good way to start a new system. If I start with the PA3, it's even less expensive than the 300. You made a good point several times that you get 2 separate power supplies with the stack and you hinted that the 300 may be embellishing its power rating a bit which i agree with you on. Even on paper the IOTA's have much better harmonic distortion levels .... and you mentioned the caps. yes, you get more with the duel IOTA's. It was great to hear someone who compared them side by side report on their character. Great job ... now how are we gonna get you paid ?
Really appricate the comment and your on the money about the IOTA ! Love that amp only budget amp I have that brough good synergy to the Polks , Polks love that Higher octane of the double Stack ! Thanks dor stopping in ! Working on getting either the LS50 Meta or Wharfedale 4.2/4.4 or the Texton Lore ? What you think ?
IOTAVX update : Its been 5 months now. Like I said, I went and got the PA3 first, then the SA3 a couple weeks later. They sound great on the NHT C3's. I listen at low volume levels mostly, so after trying them out in dual mono, I opted to bring in a pair of NHT C1's and run both pairs of speakers. The C3's off of the PA3, and the C1's off the SA3 tuner. I find I get better imaging, clarity and speed with this setup. Also running an external Topping E30 DAC over usb from my computer. So the signal goes from the DAC to the PA3 then slaves through to the SA3. I use the volume pot on the SA3 to match the volume of the C1's to the C3's, and the speakers are in a simple stereo config with the C1's sitting atop the C3's. I'm really happy with this setup and I'm getting great sound. I use the Amazon HD music service for main music listening because they use flac files and its easy to match the bit rate of the E30 to the source and not have to fool with that MCA stuff. An external powered sub stays at low level to fill out the very bottom a bit and the SA3 remote makes tweaking the tone easy from the sofa. I did alot of research to select these components and I couldn't be happier with them. I'm a set it and forget it kind of guy so I haven't been auditioning other speakers, so I can't comment on the ones you mention. Thnx, God bless ! Oh, one more thing ... having the extra set of speakers has an advantage that I use more than I thought I would... when I get home from work and come through the door with a podcast playing on my phone that I was listening to in my car... I can just flip the SA3 over to bluetooth and continue listening to the podcast while I fire up my regular TH-cam videos or World of Warships on the other speakers. Very flexible system, and the bluetooth sounds really good, just not as good as the E30.
I pulled the trigger on the SA3/PA3 combo and have never looked back. One of the smartest decisions I have ever made in my pursuit of great sound at prices I can afford. I did the SA3 first, then after deciding on some new speakers (87DB @8ohms, close out special from GR Research) I snagged the PA3. Speaker cables from Blue Jean Cables, and the Audiolab 6000CDT. The SA3 has a great DAC which saves on some money, AND contributes to great audio. I also recommend the Bluetooth Dongle. It opens up music/movies on the internet. Ian, at IOTA is a straight up solid dude who cares about his customers. My units arrived in 3 days from the UK, packaged more adequately than necessary, which shows great care. I have reached the end of my pursuit. You can add a subwoofer if you need it, but for me, I'm still toying with that idea. Dude, if I was near you, I would let you hear my rig. Good luck!!

@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Yes Sir! Multiple times, and Everytime I see it, I pick up some new info. That was a great comparison video, plus the fact that you were able to compare different speakers was very helpful.
Killer review brother! I'm looking at something - maybe the Emotiva stack ... I think these two stacks you reviewed sound better here in the South (Alabama) hahah! Many thanks for going over all of this - I may be shopping around and looking at the Iota as well.
Tee-Jay, Thanks for your summary review of these components. I previously had a Pioneer Elite SC.81 that I utilized as a preamplifier which featured the ESS Sabre DAC in it. I also noticed a bit of a darker sound signature with that device. I also have the Emotiva PT-100, which was a good performer, but then went with the Emotiva XSP-1 a few weeks back. Ironically, I also ordered the IOTAVX SA3 to be used only for the preamplifier in my setup. The IOTAVX SA3 reached the states a few weeks back and is currently in the queue to have a full technical anlysis/review performed on it by Amir at AudioScienceReview - which should appear in a couple of weeks. After the review is completed, the IOTAVX SA3 will be on its way to me for my use. I currently have the Elac Debut Reference speakers, which I truly love - after switching through 7 or 8 pair of speakers over the past 6 months. Anyway, thanks again for your subjective review. No real surprises in your analysis and summary. I'm looking forward to receiving my SA3 but also hope it will sound well with the Debut Reference speakers too because I'm currently quite content with the Emotiva XPS-1 preamplifier at the moment.
I actually used the SA3 on many of my amps also , And when pared it with the Emotiva A-300 ohh my sounds really good almost as good as the complete STACK , I was wondering about the Usp-1 how it preformes And I have used the Pioneer elite as a preamp also it has 2 full range preouts and 2 subwoofer outputs , built in streamer is very nice i use the line out fron the Pioneer alot just to use its built in Streamer , Its fun mix it up to find that goid synergy , let me know hoe the SA3 preforms with the Elacs , And the SA3 to me is worth the price if i onlu use as a preamp but the MUTI-Fi-STACK-ATTACK coming soon ! for biamping purposes the Iotavx PA3 has preouts also 😆
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 - I've stayed away from the older Emotiva USP-1 preamplifier. I've read several impressions of it and many felt that it was a bit elevated in the upper frequencies. Not sure how true this is, but it currently sells in the used market for a few more $$ than the PT-100. I think I'd stick with the PT-100 before venturing with the older USP-1 preamplifier. Just my .02.
WJ Ernst , Glad to find you here! Of course, not too much of a coincidence since the IOTA awareness in the audio world is relatively limited. haha. For me, waiting for Amir's review over at ASR, is like watching paint dry. So you think it'll be an additional couple of weeks? I'm sure Amir is busy.... cannot wait to see his review and also get your impressions of the IotaVX SA3 on its Preamp section over your XPS-1. One thing that was brought up in another one of Tee-Jay's reviews was how inexpensive the Pre amp section is on the SA3 considering that it accounts for only $150.00 more than the PA3. But from what I've read and heard Ian, of the founder of IOTA, he is impassioned in providing a LOT for the money.

I am new to audiophile. So buying the Emotiva TA 100 for now and use with a mediocre speaker set. Over time I plan to upgrade speakers and get a better true amp and use the TA 100 as a preamp at that time.
@@dicmccoy yes all around the IOTAVX-STACK is great for the price point , The Emotiva basX A-300 2ch amp is great for the money also and when i use the IOTA SA3 as a Preamp with the Emo-A-300 the A-300 sounds way better than it does pared with the PT-100 pre-amp but it cost more but its worth the extra 200.00 bucks.
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Hey Tee-Jay does the Iota paired with the Emotiva sound better or as good as the two Iota components together? Sounds as if the Emotiva pre is the weak link.
@@raymoore8435 you nailed it the pre the weak link but dang it its only 299.00US so for its price point i cant complain to me the A300 is a gem for 399.00 i have had many preamps connected to it and as crazy as this seems the Pioneer elite in the video (799.00US)paired to the Emo sounds dam good ! But even the Iotavx sa3 as a pre to the emo a300 sounds even better imho but i just love how balanced the Stack is basically for the most part it gets out of the way of the speakers yes it adds just a tiny bit of warmth very lil . hope this helps all 3 are good depends on the sound you want thats what matters most 😆
Had the IOTA stack around 6 months or so, paired it up with my old, Sonus Faber, grand piano home, floorstanders,, well,,, that's me done,, I've owned various amp & amp combos, upto 2k in price, and trust me the IOTA beats them all.
The IOTA-STACK had also been one of my favorite Amps for the price point . one thing i didn't mention in the comparrsion about the IOTA-STACK is that Stack really allows the speakers to have their own sound , I have had the IOTA about 6 months also , And here very soon I will have the video of the MULTI-FI-STACK-ATTACK ! Another way to keep upgrading the stack , and i will show how to do this step by step , Glad you enjoy the Stack !!
Yeah shipping and import cost most likely added to the price of the Emotiva . And the IOTAVX STACK has been one of my favorite amps for its price point . To me it just really lets the speaker have its own sound without adding so much color to it . subjective comparrsion would have been better my nerves are shot over this Virus , How are you all holding up in Finland?

I had a Pioneer Sx-n30. Sound was like a perfect looking dead girl. Onkyo is now the owner of Pioneer and some products are more or less the same but the name. I'm now going for musical, warm, swinging, fun and kind to the ear gear. I guess it means vintage and/or tubes.

But Sean done a review on this Integrated amp Marantz 8006, have you checked out his review ? But yeah I tell ya what, i would love to get that amp in for a review its high on my list ! If you write a company that sales the 8006 and refer me to review it , I would be more than happy to 😆 thanks for stopping in .
I was surprised that the Emotiva fared well with the Klipsch speakers because most reviewers recommend using cool electronics with warm speakers, and vice versa. To me, doing that seems counterproductive. What's the point of matching warm components to cool components and have them cancel each other out! Either way, that was a very informative and entertaining review.
That's what surprised me the most!! ! I should have brought that topic up your correct , The Emotiva having a cool forward sound doesn't seem like it would sound good with a speaker on the bright side of netural thats why i was so surprised ! But yeah i figured my Polk audio lsim 703s with being on the warm side of netural would pair best with the Emotiva, but nope the Klispch really shinned with the Emotiva , Even Thomas and stereo mentioned this before because normally cool and cool don't pair up very well , but i have to keep it honest this happened to Thomas before also . I even thought the JBL 530s would of sounded better with the Emotiva than the Klispch this was a big shock to me ! Thanks for bringing this up thinking about making a part 2 later on .thanks for stopping in, but finding synergy can surprise you like it did me , my Rehersal video i did mention this that video was 36min long I also left out that the Emotiva dynamics were just as good as the Iotavx . but yeah just keeping it real 😆
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Thanks for your reply. Even you are now saying that pairing cool with warm is the accepted practice, so it's almost unanimous. I'm still learning, so I finally get it. If that is indeed the case though, and assuming the Emotiva/Klipsch combo is the exception to the rule, from your experience, when you do pair warm with cool or vise versa, which component dictates how the commutative result will be? Do the speakers have more of an impact on the sound or is it the electronics? So if I pair cool speakers with warm electronics, will the sound be closer to the cool side or closer to the warm side?
@@khalid969 i enjoyed taking the time , thanks for questions and comments . Sound demo dropping today of the JBL Studio 580s with the Emotiva combo and iFi i-tube2 buffer and ohhh my the added warmth and imaging blew my socks off 😆

TJ, good down to earth video. A question about connecting 2 pairs of rated 8 ohm bookshelf speakers to either the IOTAVX SA3 and / or the PA3 . I learned from other posters on various on line sites, that if I parallel 2 pairs of bookshelf speakers, the drop in the impedance is da gerous to the amps performance and possible failure or total destruction and longevity. I'm looking to pair , 1 pair of Elac Debut 6.2s with a pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers. I own the SA3 and currently using it as my Zone 2 amp off the Denon DRA 800H Receiver. I have tried the paralleled speakers on the B speaker connection ( the Denon has ability for 2 pairs of speakers A and ), sounded Great But after awhile , playing CDs at about 60 to 65 volume levels, it began to overheat , flashed the red light and shut down. That was the protection circuitry invoked to prevent damage. Now, i also played simultaneously , the A speakers ( thus 6 speakers were on), also Elacs but the Reference models. All the speakers are rated as 8 ohms, however, the Elacs state that the nominal impedance ohms are 6. I have learned that by paralleling 8 ohm speakers created a 4 ohm draw. Paralleling 6 ohms, drops the ohms in half to 3 ohms. I think thats the problem.. FYI, I tried the paralleled speakers on the SA3 and they played flawlessly and the IOTA did not overheat or invoke a protection shut down. For fear of possible damage, i discotinued this use. The IOTA was just recently received and still in the 30 day return period. What do think ? Others out there, opinions are welcome. Thx

Well you've done a decent job at your review....but I have to say if you had a 3 way speaker that are 90 db or more efficient and had some decent driver's like a 10' woofer and a 5 " midrange and a 1" tweeter I would bet that you would prefer the emotiva.... speakers will make a hell of a difference and I believe the 7 speakers you where talking about are all 2 way....just think about it.....but brother you did a good job at your review!! Just my 2 cent's
Thanks for the comment , I have 12s in woofers with my pioneer Hpm 100 4ways . And my Jbl studio 580s towers are easier to drive than the Jbl studio 530s , the IOTAVX-STACK also drove my hardest speaker to drive my polk audio Lsim 703s 3ways their very inefficient and very hard to drive !
Speakers are B&W 603 with current with a Denon AVR X3500h. Want to run the speakers with the PA3 or with the BasX A-150 only as amplifier , the Denon works as a control center. Greetings
Hey Tee-Jay, you said that the Emotiva is on the colder side of neutral. I'm planning on getting the Wharfedale Linton Anniversary speakers which are a warmer sounding speaker that is a bit more rolled off on the top end from what I'm reading and hearing from other users. So that being said would you say that the Emotiva are a better match for these speakers? Also would you attribute the colder sound to the Amp or the internal DAC?
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Thats OK. I just watched the Zero Fidelity review of the A-300 and he said that the amp itself is a bit brighter and like you said, is on the colder side of neutral. As for the TA-100- im really only getting it to use as a preamp/volume control and I might possibly use the phono preamp eventually. Either way- ill be using the topping E30 for it's DAC. Otherwise I think this stack is perfect combo for the Wharfedale Linton speakers which are described as warmer and a bit less bright on the top end. BTW- you're review was a HUGE help comparing the Emotivas to a few amp/preamp set ups. Thank you!

@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Awesome. So excited for the A-300. I think even if I decide to upgrade sometime long into the future. The A-300 will be an amp that I won't need to get rid of. I very much respect Emotiva's brand, quality, price, and many other accolades that the company boasts. They really care about their customers from what I can tell. Also, %100 made in the USA. I can't say that about the Topping- but it appears to be a pretty groundbreaking DAC. DAC innovation seems to be moving fairly quickly. One thing to note about the E30 is that there was a polarity issue with some of the older models. IIWI Reviews covers the problem pretty well. I emailed Topping and they have told me that the hardware issue has been fixed on the new E30s. I also read in a forum that serial numbers 2004+ do not have any polarity issues. Not sure if you were aware of this but it would be a good piece of info to include in your review.
very good review I really appreciate the comparison with the medly of speakers as well. Do you think its possible to remedy the digital sound you referred to with an external DAC added to the mix like a denafrips aries. Brooklyn bridge or topping? Im considering adding one to my system just not sure if it will make a big difference
Interesting have you ever looked at the NED 317 it was built in the late 90s they were very good amp's or you get a chance the audiolab 8000a from the 80s and 90s is a very good dirt cheap now the new model 6000a is based on the 8000a. audiolab 6000a is around 800 to $900 I think, that's a very good amplifier especially speakers hard to drive. The emotiva might benefit from running it through a light bulb 40-w incandescent light bulb one for each speaker terminal
Always been interested in Emotiva gear. Back several years ago when they were coming up, I chose to buy that Outlaw Audio 975 preamp over Emotiva's model. Not sure if it was the right decision or not, since I haven't ever owned Emotiva. I will say that the Emotiva did have room correction, came with a mic and such, the Outlaw did not.

i have tekton mini- lores with a Pioneer VSX-822 i wanted to upgrade the electronics for a better sound to either the emotiva stack or a nad c638. Does it make sense i upgrade and if yes to which one?
Tekton doesn't need much power to drive them i never tried the Nad368 i would like to , I have had the older Nad between Emo/Nad with Tekton The Emotiva is on the cool side of netural giving you really good detail but Nad is such a solid company personally I would go Nad but it all depends on the sound you want !

If both of these units sound a little digital, can't you use a tube preamp to color the sound towards the warmer side? Don't forget Tee Jay, it's amperage that counts and not wattage. If you have a lot of amperage, you don't need a lot of wattage to drive the speakers, especially with high sensitivity speakers. That's why a lot of the high end hi-fi audiophile amplifiers are rarely rated over 100 watts.
I have the 6000a was debating between both, audiolab has the better pedigree and warranty status. Has a better DAC and options for power amp, pre amp direct power amp etc, build quality is great and it sounds wonderful with a good source. No tone controls though. Can't comment on sound from iota as I haven't heard it to compare.

Tee-Jay, thanks so much for adding this review and comparison. It further confirms the Iota stack's performance and value. Plus it's entertaining. Lots of time on our hands these days and your presentations are always appreciated!
Hey T-J, nice review, and down to earth info, as always.

IOTAVX update :
Its been 5 months now.
Good luck!!
Hi Marty, when was last time you contacted their company at IOTA ? As they dont reply any emails for 2 weeks and the number on their site doesn't work? @@hossetttren253 I bought the white BJC TEN terminated with banana plugs. Killer review brother! I'm looking at something - maybe the Emotiva stack ... I think these two stacks you reviewed sound better here in the South (Alabama) hahah! Many thanks for going over all of this - I may be shopping around and looking at the Iota as well.
Great Video. Helped me make a decision on the Iota's.

Emotiva rules hands down and the value can not be beaten. Tee-Jay thank you for your review and stay safe out there.
For the money Emotiva did a great job.
For the money, IOTAVX stack does better. :)

Now the real question: based on sound quality alone would you buy the IOTAVX sa3 without the pa3 unit over the others, because that changes the game.
Thanks TJ.
Dang i wrote a book ! I just can't get over the Klispch pairing with the Emotiva

Thx

At work get bwck to you soon
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Thats OK. I just watched the Zero Fidelity review of the A-300 and he said that the amp itself is a bit brighter and like you said, is on the colder side of neutral. As for the TA-100- im really only getting it to use as a preamp/volume control and I might possibly use the phono preamp eventually. Either way- ill be using the topping E30 for it's DAC. Otherwise I think this stack is perfect combo for the Wharfedale Linton speakers which are described as warmer and a bit less bright on the top end.

The emotiva might benefit from running it through a light bulb 40-w incandescent light bulb one for each speaker terminal

i have tekton mini- lores with a Pioneer VSX-822 i wanted to upgrade the electronics for a better sound to either the emotiva stack or a nad c638.
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 I am really just looking for a significant upgrade to my AV receiver and was wondering if any of these options would make that much of a difference. I am tempted very much to go with the nad because of its history and the good reviews it has had
Great detailed review as usual! I'm waiting!!😉🤗🤔🙄🙄🙄🙄😬🤓 Starts with a J and ends with a 0!😉😝😎

Great!😛🤗😇
Im thinking between Iota vx sa3 and the Parasound NewClassic 200. Any suggestions about their sounds? Thanks
where can you buy the iota in the USA? I can only find the UK website
Yea it comes from the U.K. They'll bring it to the U.S. its still my favoritr amp
How would u compare the iotavx sa3 vs Outlaw 2160 ? Thanks for ur help
Is it ok to put a receiver on top of an A-300 amplifier?
(in therms of cooliing the heat)
Yeah it will be fine , I just don't personally because of cross contamination
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 You mean electromagnetic interference, etc.? (cross contamination)
Or the heat dispersion?
@@RESURRECT2 electromagnetic heat i love with amps ! Lol
Love your review. I only have klipsch R15m's. You think the Iota integrated would be good match? Really interested now.
Yes bro
Sir
Please suggest me
Iotavx sa3 vs Audiolab 6000a ?
I have the 6000a was debating between both, audiolab has the better pedigree and warranty status. Has a better DAC and options for power amp, pre amp direct power amp etc, build quality is great and it sounds wonderful with a good source. No tone controls though. Can't comment on sound from iota as I haven't heard it to compare.
Oh I forgot to mention it has built in aptx Bluetooth built-in and a good phone stage for records
Not all Watts are created equal
I couldn't have said better 😃

You need a mic.
@Tee-Jay: you married? If you are she’s very understanding. If not, I know why. 😀😷
The content of your review is excellent...but your voice sounds like you are speaking inside a tin can. This is an audio-related channel after all. People get tired fast of your tinny voice and that's a real wet blanket and a disservice to what is (are) good review(s).
I know ! I ordered a new camera and it was even worse ! Very soon i will get a very good camera i been saving up fir a new camera and new mics , i wanted to see hoe the channel took off before i invested more money , thanks for stopping in 😆
