  • If you're like me a few months ago and you're on a research spree looking up every single thing to do with pet travel, welcome!!! I too burned the midnight oil post-work (and let's be real, during work as well) going down internet blackholes trying to prepare for my first experience travelling with a pet. And guess what, I was still slapped in the face with a totally unforeseen hurdle (WATCH: • Leaving Singapore (Ep.... ) so the lesson here is relaaaaaaax and take it eaaaaaasy.
    If you have any questions at all regarding international in-cabin pet travel, feel free to comment below and I'll do my best to help out! I know it's nerve-wracking but you'll be A-OK :)

    Amazing to be able to travel in first class with a dog. Brazilian airlines do not allow it. Only in Economy or Premium economy. So it is very difficult to find any experience of Brazilians traveling in first class with a dog, and I was in need of a video like this. I didn't understand very well because I don't speak English (I'm using the translator) but since it's possible to travel in first class with a dog! I'm still in the process of taking my dog, but I'm already looking for tickets, initially Lufthansa will be my connecting flight from Rio to Dublin

    Thank you for this video. We are flying to Greece this summer and debating on business class because of our chihuahua. He has flown to Greece before (as well as Florida and California and is a frequent flyer who sleeps his whole trip) but I wasn’t sure with the sets that were lay down if they were allowed. Thank you!

    Thanks so much for sharing this video. My poodle looks pretty much like yours, she is a rescue from China and also weighs 6 kilos. Was your dog able to stand and turn around in the bag? I understand that your dogs height is also higher than the height of the bag. Did they say something because of this? And as others say, the measurement that Lufthansa has would be just high enough for a Guinea pig not a dog 🙈. We will also travel Business or Premium economy with more space. I am really nervous with this height problem and the standing in the bag problem 😩

    One question: Do you remember whether the weight of your dog and carrier came in under or at 8 kilos? I ask because I bought the lightest carrier I could find for my 15.5 pound dog and the overall weight is still just over 8 kilos, so I am worried about being denied access at check in due to weight.
    Thanks!

    • @AssyG
      @AssyG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't recall specific weight of pet + carrier combined, but it either didn't exceed or was right at 8kg. She weighed 6.55kg at time of flight. I think if it's hovering just slightly over 8kg (e.g. up to 8.5) you should be fine. I did cut my pet's portions + brought her on runs more than usual leading up to the flight to help maintain her weight

      I have plans to travel with my dog but he weighs 7.4kg, with the lightest carrier I could find he would weigh 8.5kg and I’m also very worried he would be rejected at check in.

  • @claricemonarcha
    @claricemonarcha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi! Thanks for the great video :)
    On the Lufthansa guidelines it says the dogs need to be able to stand in the carrier. I think they mean with the heads sticking out of the carrier, because the TH-cam videos I have seen the dogs are taller than the height of the carrier... I have a cavalier and she is slightly taller than the carrier (45cm instead of 40cm - they say the carrier has to be 40cm tall). Also, how does it work with business class? Because when you put the chair in the flat position the feet part goes straight, so you don't have room in front of your feet anymore, right? My flight will be economy premium but I am thinking of upgrading to business as I think they might be more chill with business passengers. Business class allows for more bags, so maybe if my dog is slightly bigger than they want, they might be more relaxed, since I don't have any other carry ons...
    Thanks a lot in advance! :)

    • @AssyG
      @AssyG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the seat next to mine was empty (I don't recall seeing a row where both seats were occupied; each person had their own row pretty much) so it wasn't a problem for me to put the carrier on the floor in between the 2 seats. I would personally recommend upgrading if you are able to--economy seemed completely full on my flight and this was even before US had fully reopened borders to Europe. I was thankful in hindsight to have upgraded to Business.

      I don't remember the specific info source, but I think it was just based on general knowledge that people do fly pets in business class + watching various TH-cam videos. I also didn't really have a choice but to upgrade from my original economy ticket because of a date change and resulting lack of spots for in-cabin pets (they have a very low limit of pets for each class - something like 2). So book early! You can watch the video to see where I put the pet - I didn't really move her from that spot throughout the flight

      @@sonalibante5469 yes, they allow up to 8kgs (they only weighed the carried + cat, didn't measure it). The cat was an absolute champion, he was very quiet during the whole flight including the take off and landing and even slept a bit during. On our way back we also had to take a car from Paris to London after being on 2 1.5 hour flights and he only started to be a bit unpatient in the final hour on the car before we arrived at our destination. And when I say unpatient just wanting to get out and meowed a little bit, nothing dramatic. :) This is also a cat who didn't travel much before, just to the vet and back on short car trips. Once we arrived back home, he ate, went to the bathroom, was 100% in his element, no issues.

      @AssyG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Nazharia, copy pasting one of my previous responses to another viewer: my carrier was 50 x 29 x 32 cm (LxWxH). They only weighed the carrier at the check in counter in Singapore; didn’t measure the dimensions. During the flight from SG to Germany, my dog was largely asleep and was not a problem at all. I was probably the more anxious one constantly unzipping the carrier a little to pet her + check on her. They are pretty strict - there were two instances of pets escaping their carrier and wandering around the aisles - but as I mentioned in my video when it was dark and they turned the lights down for people to sleep I let my pet out of the carrier for abit just to let her stretch. In terms of paperwork, mine was for USA so it'd be different from Germany's. I personally had to get a general vet certificate with mention of screwworm check and rabies vaccination and that was about it. But if I recall correctly Germany may require your pet to be microchipped - but kindly do your own research! I would also recommend joining a Facebook group like "Animal Travelers" to read other people's pet travel experiences.
