      no, cuz you don't do all of these things just to keep a crate in your car or in your home. airlines have very specific requirements that need to be followed or else the crate can't be used.

    How did you manage without a handle to pull the carrier? The one I need to buy has no handle, I am afraid it might be an issue.

    • @pets2fly269
      @pets2fly269  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only the small flight crates have a handle on top of the crate. The big crates don't have a handle as it will be too heavy to hold it with a handle.
      To pick-up the crate, you'll need 2 people. Each will hold the crate using the side handles/plastic.

    American Airlines requires the door "rip ties" to be installed by their agent AFTER the pet and the crate has been inspected (take extra ties and tape them to the top with duct tape). They also place all the stickers on the crate for you.

      @@pets2fly269 Mine didn't. I bought metal ones, but honestly I don't think the airline cared. I flew on Swiss and they are very tolerant of pets. They did say they were happy I brought plastic ties to secure the doors. On a previous flight, when they landed the dog escaped the crate and when they opened the bay door the dog was wagging its tail happy to greet them.

    I have a "Petmate" pet carrier that had only 2 metal bolts with plastic nuts. The other 2 were missing). So I supplied 2 other slotted head metal bolts, with a washer right below the slotted head, going through the top side. On the bottom side, I have another washer, a nut, plus a second lock nut to secure it from the bottom. Of course, I finger tightened the 2 original metal bolts with their plastic nuts. And I used a screwdriver and wrench to tighten my jerryrig fasteners. No zipties and airline labels of course. But other than that, is my Petmate otherwise TSA and airline kosher?

    I would have thought the bolts should go in from the top and the nots would go on the protruding end from below. Is there a specific reason for doing it the way it is in this video? Your way, if the nut gets shaken loose and pops off during transit or rough handling, gravity will cause the bolt to drop out; but if you put the bolt in through the top hole, the head holds it while you tighten it from below, and even if the nut gets lost, it is less likely that the bolt will be lost, because gravity is working for you this way.

    • @MatthewBrigham-1
      @MatthewBrigham-1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The base of the bolt has a square section that fits into a square hole on the plastic shell. The nuts are pretty secure (I just put mine together) plus you will put large zip ties on four corners for air travel.
