The stone bridge story seems a lot like the Virginia white lady story. Also sometimes California does adapt some myths into the state even if it's from another state.
I think I've seen a dark watcher... I live near La Purisima mission and on an evening run with my aunt I came around a corner and saw a dark hatted figure in the middle of a field, but when I turned to tell my aunt it was gone 😱
