I watch Truthunedited. . I have to agree on how he responded to you. “Your desire is not Spirit led but from a desire of the flesh to prove something.” And that’s exactly what I got out of this video. It’s not about being more holy. It’s about what’s happening in the Spiritual. Yeah it can be harmless in the physical but do you ever think about the spiritual?
Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
      God bless.

    • @henryodera5726
      @henryodera5726 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

To the individual, yes, intent matters more than the day. That is between the individual and God. But if they're celebrating it publicly, then their brother or sister's conscience comes into play. If someone knows that what they are doing may offend a brother or sister, then they become accountable for it. You can't say for example, that I knew that Valentine's day was an offence to a brother or sister, but I celebrated it anyway because I had good intentions. We are commanded to love each other as Christ loved us, but we are not commanded to celebrate Valentine's day. We can't let tradition overrule God's command. (See Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 8, 1 Corinthians 10, Matthew 15:3-6)

@BVale I don't know what you mean by 'social justice warrior', but this is where I get the idea about looking after my brother or sister's conscience:
      First of all:
"So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."
      James 4:17 ESV
Then, as to what is considered as the right thing to do in this scenario:
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved."
      1 Corinthians 10:31‭-‬33 ESV
"Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up. Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one." However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. But TAKE CARE THAT THIS RIGHT OF YOURS DOES NOT SOMEHOW BECOME A STUMBLING BLOCK FOR THE WEAK. For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brothers and WOUNDING THEIR CONSCIENCE WHEN IT IS WEAK, YOU SIN AGAINST CHRIST. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble."
      1 Corinthians 8:1‭,4‭,‬7‭-‬13 ESV
"One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather DECIDE NEVER TO PUT A STUMBLING BLOCK OR HINDRANCE IN THE WAY OF A BROTHER. I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. So then LET US PURSUE WHAT MAKES FOR PEACE AND FOR MUTUAL UPBUILDING. Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. IT IS GOOD NOT TO EAT MEAT OR DRINK WINE OR DO ANYTHING THAT CAUSES YOUR BROTHER TO STUMBLE. The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin."
      Romans 14:5‭-‬9‭,13‭-‬23 ESV

    • @henryodera5726
      @henryodera5726 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@BVale Oh. Then I think that their general idea of not wanting to cause offence has merit, but in their case it is being incorrectly applied when they include God in the list of things that cause offence. I think that is an example of the devil pretending to be an angel of light, and distorting God's message in an attempt to use it against Him, just as He tried to do as He was tempting Christ to jump off the Temple in Jerusalem. He has taken the biblical ideas of peace, unity, and love, and is trying to pervert them, but Christians know better. We can smell his lies from a mile away. And anyone who claims to have good intentions while also trying exclude, silence, disqualify or distort the Gospel of Christ should always be treated with a high degree of suspicion. I'd say this goes for the so-called 'social justice warriors', just as much as prosperity preachers, and anyone who misrepresents the Gospel.
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."
      John 10:27‭,5 ESV
"And what I am doing I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds."
      2 Corinthians 11:12‭-‬15 ESV

😂😂😂 I don't think anyone will be criticized for taking their wife out on Valentine's. However, there's roses and red clothing, and other symbolisms that mark Valentine's day, otherwise you wouldn't be celebrating Valentine's day, you'd just be going on a date. I don't think anyone will be criticized for going on a normal date, especially if it's something they usually do.
But why even go out on that specific date at the risk of offending a brother or sister? Why not just order in? I doubt anyone goes on dates for 365 days a year, so skipping one day shouldn't be a problem, unless of course that date has some kind of significance that makes one unable to skip it.
And if it truly has no significance, then why would one opt to potentially offend a brother or sister over something of no significance?

    • @vansantos5772
      @vansantos5772 4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @henryodera5726
    @henryodera5726 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I don't bother much with holidays myself, and my rule of thumb is that if something is considered controversial by Christians or unbelievers, and is unnecessary to comply with (e.g. Valentines day), it is probably best to follow Paul's principle on this in 1 Corinthians 8. It addresses food, but it can be applied to any disputable thing, including celebration of any holiday (there is no holiday that is a necessary requirement for any Christian to celebrate), and I think that Romans 14 even makes some kind of connection between the concepts of 'holy' or 'unholy' foods, and 'holy' or 'unholy' days, where in Romans 14:20, Paul urges us not to destroy God's work for the sake of food.
So I guess in this instance, I think that he'd say: don't destroy God's work for the sake of Valentine's day. I think that if there's even a hint of paganism associated with it, then there's really no reason for a Christian to celebrate it, or defend it. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 8:13, "Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to stumble." We have no loyalty to holidays, our loyalties only lie with Christ.
"So concerning the eating of foods that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. For there are those who are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, as there are many gods and many lords. But for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist. And there is one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. However, not everyone has this knowledge. Some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat the food as a thing offered to an idol. So their weak conscience is defiled. But food does not commend us to God. Neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. But take heed, lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if anyone sees you, who have knowledge, eating in the idol’s temple, shall the conscience of him who is weak not be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols, and by your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? When you thus sin against the brothers, wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to stumble."
    1 Corinthians 8:4‭-‬13 MEV

Whether it's pagan or not is not relevant to me. That these holidays are more about driving sales through emotional guilt tripping is what bothers me. People are pressed to go all out to prove their love in spending money they may not have. It also bothers me that the emphasis is always placed on material exchanges and temporal happiness, leaving intense lack of happiness and loneliness within others around those holidays.
For each of those holidays, and Valentine's day included, appreciation seems to come with a hefty price tag and all sorts of foolishness that leaves relationships between couples, families, friends and colleagues damaged because someone is perceived to have not done enough to show appreciation.
Appreciation and love can be shown in far better and meaningful ways throughout the year. There isn't a need to observe a special day to demonstrate love and appreciation when it should be a daily practice from Christians who proclaim to be transformed inwardly as they live out God's word.
Arguing origins of certain holidays doesn't seem to address the actual issues that were created since its implementation, but this is not that platform so I understand.

Easter is named after a pagan goddess of spring and is a celebration for crops to come
Valentines day IS based on the roman holiday stated and the historians he credits have been refuted many times
St. Patricks day is cristian although it is loosely based on a pagan holiday but they occur a few weeks apart
You people even stole the word pagan from the Pagan who are witches who worship celtic gods, and you currupted it into meaning non-cristian.

Moreover, Jesus celebrated holidays that God never commanded be celebrated in the pages of the Scriptures! In Esth9:27-28, we see that God never commanded Purim; the book merely records that the Jews decided to celebrate it. God never commanded anyone to celebrate Hanukkah; that feast too celebrates events in the Bible (if you consider Maccabees canonical), but in no canon does God command you celebrate it.
Yet we see Our Lord (Jn5:9;Jn10:22) celebrated both of these religious feasts!
If people come up with a test of morality that Jesus wouldn't pass, either it's not a very good test, or Jesus wasn't perfectly moral.

Misleading title. Actually, At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I replaced *Lupercalia* (A Roman Feast) with 'St. Valentine’s Day.' (14th and 15th Feb) It came to be celebrated as a day of romance from about the 14th century. I'm sure you're capable of looking up "Lupercalia"? :0)

@@InspiringPhilosophy ~ Yes, it's interesting that you leave it to the last in your presentation - since it's the most important thing here and you should have been much more up front. It gives the lie to the badly chosen title as I mentioned. Actually, "Saint *s* Valentine were frequently in vogue (There are at least 10 "Valentines in the church hagiography! - and many more in the Eastern churches - the name means "Worthy, strong or powerful") I think Pope Gelasius 1 chose 'St Valentine' for a number of reasons to replace the VERY pagan feast of Lupercalia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupercalia
The church had embarked on a long-term strategy of systematically removing traces of the older religions, mostly important figures from the known history of the time; and replacing old temples by destroying them and erecting churches in their place.
Another reason is that the better known 'Valentine' was very wealthy and very well known in the upper echelons. He is credited with all sorts of good deeds and many spurious miracles. In addition, the early catholic church had his remains handy {or someone's remains anyway!) to exhibit and for the faithful to adore. (The church has TWO separate biographies for possibly the same person) For a resumé, see: - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Valentine

There is no contemporary evidence to support the popular notions that Gelasius abolished the Lupercalia, or that he, or any other prelate, replaced it with the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.[23] A literary association between Lupercalia and the romantic elements of Saint Valentine's Day dates back to Chaucer and poetic traditions of courtly love.
Henry Ansgar Kelly (1986), in "Chaucer and the Cult of Saint Valentine" (Leiden: Brill), pp. 58-63

Forbes, Bruce David (October 27, 2015). America's Favorite Holidays: Candid Histories. University of California Press. p. 54. ISBN 9780520284722. There is no indication in suppressing the Lupercalia, Gelasius put anything else in its place. Much later, in the 1500s, a Cardinal Baronius speculated that Gelasius converted the Lupercalia into the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin (or Candlemas), changing one purification ceremony into another, and many noted authors have repeated this claim. Recent scholarship has refuted Baronius's assertion...there is no evidence that Gelasius advocated a celebration of Valentine's Day as a replacement for the Lupercalia. ... The letter by Gelasius to Andromachus criticizing the Lupercalia contains no reference to Valentine, or Valentine's Day, or any replacement observance.

As far as I can tell, when Gelasius confirmed the fittingness of celebrating a long list of martyrs whose biographical details had long since been forgotten, one of them was Valentine. Pope Gelasius mostly confirmed these martyrs already existing rotations on the calendar. So, Valentine was probably already being commemorated on some local calendar on the 14th (probably sharing the day with a few others).
Evidently, his legend and association with Christian marriage had not yet developed, and even if it had, Lupercal didn't have a romantic connection.
So, the theory that St Valentine's Day was moved to the 14th to make-up for taking Lupercal away is not really tenable.

The issue I think that is present here is that peopel assume that traditional holidays, traditional events, or simply traditions because they were present during a pagan period are in themselves inherently pagan. This confuses culture with the religion of that culture, and while religion is a major element of culture it is not the entirety of culture. Its much like in archeology when someone finds an odd object they term it a object of the cult. Or a religious object when often later it turns out to be something as benign as a traditional set of pottery with specific sybology representing say the sun, a hunt, a person, at times even just someones name. Many practices became christianised with time. And are now part of inherent christian culture. They are however not inherently pagan. Its kind of like the baltic states baking bread with specific symbology on it, however it is now intimately tied to the christian holy days and celebrated specifically in tandem often coalescing in meetings in church.
Not to mention this example which is a day named after a siant. It is likely that "pagan" or pre christian culture had this day as well, chances are it occured on a random day and was considered a good day and a day to celebrate however it does not mean that this was a day involved with pagan gods, or horrible rituals. That is I think what we need to remember during any of these discussions. Pre christian =/= pagan. And it is as I said earlier. Culture is not just religion, it has many elements to it, the sacred, the material, the every day and banal etc. This is also why so many christian countries fundumentally differ in culture.

I will reiterate what I said in one of your previous videos on Christians "adopting" paganism: just because two things are similar doesn't mean they are the same or that one comes from the other. If a custom becomes pagan simply because pagans do it, then literally everyone, Christian and non-Christian alike, would be a pagan because some things that pagans do, like eating, drinking, sleeping, wearing clothing, living in a house, and working in a job, are common to everyone.

Pope Gelasius' and St Valentine's Day's relationship comes from the fact that Gelasius affirmed Valentine's status as a saint.
A question arose as to whether it was appropriate to honor various early saints who died in the Diocletian persecutions, given that very little was known of their lives by the 6th century. Gelasius affirmed that Valentine and other recorded martyrs were " justly reverenced among men, but whose acts are known only to God."
Gelasius thus affirmed the popular acclamation of Valentine's sanctity, and he approved of (what was almost certainly the prior practice of) honoring him at Mass on the 14th of February.
The pope did not "invent" the feast of St Valentine - which at that time had zero connection to romance. Gelasius approved the continuing memorial of a minor martyr, on what was probably the historical day of his murder.
The historical Valentine was probably only remembered during the Gelasian pontificate because there were three liturgically celebrated martyrs named "Valentine" (a not uncommon name for Christian families) in different regions, the most famous being a Roman whose shrine and grave was along a rather prominent road. This repetition of the name in different calendars meant that he wasn't excluded when a liturgical calendar was being standardized in Rome around that time.
TL;DR Very important Pope did something boring that did nothing to connect Valentine with romance or Lupercal, at least not in his mind.

there are various theories of why we celebrate st valentines day here are some according to the wiki
The inconsistency in the identification of the saint is replicated in the various vitae that are ascribed to him.
A common hagiography describes Saint Valentine as a priest of Rome or as the former Bishop of Terni, an important town of Umbria, in central Italy. While under house arrest of Judge Asterius, and discussing his faith with him, Valentinus (the Latin version of his name) was discussing the validity of Jesus. The judge put Valentinus to the test and brought to him the judge's adopted blind daughter. If Valentinus succeeded in restoring the girl's sight, Asterius would do whatever he asked. Valentinus, praying to God, laid his hands on her eyes and the child's vision was restored.[24] Immediately humbled, the judge asked Valentinus what he should do. Valentinus replied that all of the idols around the judge's house should be broken, and that the judge should fast for three days and then undergo the Christian sacrament of baptism. The judge obeyed and, as a result, freed all the Christian inmates under his authority. The judge, his family, and his forty-four member household (family members and servants) were baptized.[25] Valentinus was later arrested again for continuing to evangelize and was sent to the prefect of Rome, to the emperor Claudius Gothicus (Claudius II) himself. Claudius took a liking to him until Valentinus tried to convince Claudius to embrace Christianity, whereupon Claudius refused and condemned Valentinus to death, commanding that Valentinus either renounce his faith or he would be beaten with clubs and beheaded. Valentinus refused and Claudius' command was executed outside the Flaminian Gate February 14, 269.[26]
Saint Valentine is said to have ministered to the faithful amidst the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.[2]
An embellishment to this account states that before his execution, Saint Valentine wrote a note to Asterius's daughter signed "from your Valentine", which is said to have "inspired today's romantic missives".[27]
The Legenda Aurea of Jacobus de Voragine, compiled about 1260 and one of the most-read books of the High Middle Ages, gives sufficient details of the saints for each day of the liturgical year to inspire a homily on each occasion. The very brief vita of St Valentine states that he was executed for refusing to deny Christ by the order of the "Emperor Claudius"[28] in the year 269. Before his head was cut off, this Valentine restored sight and hearing to the daughter of his jailer. Jacobus makes a play with the etymology of "Valentine", "as containing valor".
A popularly ascribed hagiographical identity appears in the Nuremberg Chronicle (1493). Alongside a woodcut portrait of Valentine, the text states that he was a Roman priest martyred during the reign of Claudius Gothicus. He was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying Christian couples and otherwise aiding Christians who were at the time being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. Helping Christians at this time was considered a crime. Claudius took a liking to this prisoner. However, when Valentinus tried to convert the Emperor, he was condemned to death. He was beaten with clubs and stones; when that failed to kill him, he was beheaded outside the Flaminian Gate. Various dates are given for the martyrdom or martyrdoms: 269, 270, or 273.[29]
There are many other legends behind Saint Valentine. One is that in the 3rd century AD[citation needed] it is said that Valentine, who was a priest, defied the order of the emperor Claudius and secretly performed Christian weddings for couples, allowing the husbands involved to escape conscription. The legend claims that soldiers were sparse at this time so this was a big inconvenience to the emperor.[30] The account mentions that in order "to remind these men of their vows and God’s love, Saint Valentine is said to have cut hearts from parchment", giving them to these soldiers and persecuted Christians, a possible origin of the widespread use of hearts on St. Valentine's Day.[31]
Another legend is that Valentine refused to sacrifice to pagan gods. Being imprisoned for this, Valentine gave his testimony in prison and through his prayers healed the jailer's daughter who was suffering from blindness. On the day of his execution, he left her a note that was signed, "Your Valentine".[27]

I honestly believe it is better to honor God with everything we have, including Christmas, Easter and Valentines day, which people say are "pagan" holidays. I'm not really saying it's okay worship God in pagan ways. It can be pagan if it involves worshiping the materialistic world...unless we do them for God alone "in spirit and in truth" and for benefiting people (both small and great and rich and poor) and forgiving and forsaking sins.

We also find stories that are connected to other things more likely than an origin story that is random and lacks connections. So people like to genesis must originally come from paganism or holidays must have as well because it makes the story more interesting. Instead go on facts and not assuming patterns

Start from introduction of the inverted cross sign at the beginning of prayer, introduction of Mary worship and all that follow Mary doctrines till ascension. The list is long and by 2014 the pope made it official to substitute the names of ABBA FATHER ELOHIM YHWH with titles GOD and LORD which are pagan and used by all religions referring to different gods.

    • @ServantStatusMinistries
      @ServantStatusMinistries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

InspiringPhilosophy big difference in what he is talking about. Honoring means to respect and obey. Another form of love and at its extreme can become a form worship. Pagans set days, months, statue’s etc; so they could be remembered and worshipped right after God says that man and the memory of man leaves this earth to be remembered no more. Prideful man wants to be remembered and to have their legacy worshipped long when they are dead. Prideful people who raises man on a pedestal will tell you to “honor” a person and that’s another name for worship in the mouths of pagans. Jesus showed me this and it’s very clear. People will tell you to honor a flag, honor an ideology, honor the uniform, honor a dead man, honor those who serve in the military....I could keep going but they won’t tell you to honor God. You are told by God to respect and show no favoritism to no man anyway but to raise a man up because of what they did is idolatry disguised as honor. It’s no different then the idolatry of people who look to “church fathers”, pastors, and past commentators, and even Paul instead of being taught by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. They worship the man for what they do and give no praise to Jesus all in the name of “honoring” man and that is because they look for praises of man more than the praises of God. Jesus dealt with this while He was here on earth. You know context is important. Honor can also mean worship which is what the last guy is talking about.
Don’t use scriptures to validate what God’s definition of honor is and compare it to what man’s perverted definition is. You can honor man by showing appreciation but not honor them ABOVE God which many do. That’s the main reason for why the Israelites couldn’t see God standing before them. They worshipped man. I highly doubt a follower of Christ wants ANY attention on them from anyone else because they know all attention goes to Jesus alone. Respect and honoring the messenger of God will direct you to honoring God not the man. Satan wants people to remain in the past and focus on getting people to remain lukewarm and worship the dead by saying they are being honored. We are to honor the elderly but this is in reference to honoring the elderly that are ALIVE physically on earth and not dead. We can even respectful tend to their handling of their dead body in the grave but to constantly bring that person back to life year after year is close to worship. Saying otherwise is no different than people who “honor” their ancestors which again is ancestor worship. They are DEAD, physically speaking. You don’t honor the dead because the dead are not conscious of anything. When you honor God then the things taught to you by your elders who spoke on behalf of God, would be honored by default. They are no special then anyone else God uses. The elder may have spent a lot more time on earth and learned a lot from God but without God they are people just like you and I. Honoring someone is a command to obey and to love and respect not a command to show favoritism and to deify. It’s how mankind has perverted the definition of love but calling lust love and using scriptures to define their perverted definition.
Plus, Why do you think people get passionate about their holidays and statues of certain “hero’s” going down? It’s because people are messing with their gods. Many self proclaimed Christians are deceiving themselves worshipping the messenger and not the one who sent the messenger.

@@albertohernandez8721 The Romans' celebrations were violent
From Feb. 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain.
The Roman romantics "were drunk. They were naked," Noel Lenski, now a religious studies professor at Yale University, told NPR in 2011. Young women would line up for the men to hit them, Lenski said. They believed this would make them fertile.
The brutal fete included a matchmaking lottery in which young men drew the names of women from a jar. The couple would then be, um, coupled up for the duration of the festival - or longer, if the match was right.
The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men - both named Valentine - on Feb. 14 of different years in the third century. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine's Day.

@@belindaturner3899 Duncan MacRae, an assistant professor of classics at the University of California, Berkeley, says there is no evidence showing that lotteries were part of Lupercalia, nor any kind of pairing off among young men and women. “There’s just nothing to draw lots for,” he says. He sees the theory as the product of the Enlightenment, an era in which people wanted to provide rational explanations for customs that seemed irrational. “In early modern Europe there was an idea that you would randomize your Valentine, that you left it up to a system of chance,” MacRae says. “But none of that has ancient backing.” In his book America’s Favorite Holidays: Candid Histories, Bruce David Forbes echoes the same opinion regarding matchmaking during Lupercalia. “Although there probably was wild partying, there is no reliable evidence that it involved a ritualized time when men drew the names of women, or that it involved the pairing of lovers,” he writes. Without this ritual at the Roman festival, there appears to be little correlation between the Lupercalia and Valentine’s Day. Nor is there conclusive evidence that the date of Lupercalia influenced Pope Gelasius I when, in the 5th century, he made February 14 into a day that would honor the Christian martyr Saint Valentine. Professor Roland Kany, holder of the Chair of Ancient Church History and Patrologia at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich’s Faculty of Theology says "This story about Pope Gelasius (492-496) has gone viral on the Internet but is based on a fallacy from the eighteenth century. At the time, some scholars believed that lovers’ Valentine’s Day customs could be attributed to a prohibition by Gelasius of the pre-Christian and at times almost carnival-like ‘Lupercalia’ festival that had proved hard to eradicate and was celebrated on 15 February. Their view was that Gelasius introduced Valentine’s Day on the preceding day as a Christian substitute. This, they claimed, accounted for why certain elements of Lupercalian fertility rituals had found their way into Valentine’s Day celebrations. There is indeed a manuscript in which Gelasius opposes Lupercalia, but there is no evidence that he introduced Valentine’s Day or was the first to put it on 14 February. Above all, there is not the slightest trace of love rituals on Valentine’s Day from ancient times to the middle of the fourteenth century. Historically speaking, this day therefore has nothing whatsoever to do with Lupercalia. Nor does the Christian day of remembrance have any link to such customs. On the contrary, its substance is that Valentine is very briefly mentioned at several points in the service and that the legend of his martyrdom is occasionally recounted."

5:19 You know, fertility and love aren't the same thing today either.
At the end of the day, what matters isn't what it used to mean, but what it means in today's culture, and these days Valentine's Day is about one of two things:
impressing people and "getting laid." Love rarely has anything to do with it, apart from the euphemism "making love," which in this context has about as much to do with real love as "free love" did back in the 60s and 70s.
So a "fertility festival" is what it is, not just what it was, what it is!
If you have a store or a business, then it's all about Mammon anyway, so it's just as pagan as Black Friday, even if the latter is a modern invention.

They use these opportunities to justify their persecution theories and set themselves apart from the rest of the world. Funny though they actually imitate the holidays but not on the day. My family who are witnesses have “family dinner” on Friday after Thanksgiving much like people now call it Friendsgiving. They have consume parties where kids dress up like Halloween but give gifts like a birthday party. They have huge anniversary celebrations and wedding parties and baby showers and bridal showers. They have a “memorial” for the death of Jesus which is very pagan in ritual where they pass the communion element s but instead of partaking they deny them. No celebration of the resurrection. They believe Jesus is Michael the Arch angel and do not understand the trinity of God. So basically they follow the Watchtower and should not be considered a Christian religion.

Nice comment but you did not show any proof that it is biblical to celebrate valentine. Though you pointed out that the celebration of valentine falls on pagan celebration, you did not still mention the celebration of christian on that particular period

A true Christian would know that if it's not something god ordered for early jews and Christians to commemorate then we shouldn't do it , the Bible specifically tells us what we should commemorate, then by default valentines day is a pagan holiday

In my opinion, any holiday God didn't create is ungodly. Jesus only celebrated Jewish holidays like Passover etc. So why do Christians celebrate so many made up holidays? Then argue over whether or not its Pagan... Even if they're not Pagan are still not of God... It makes no sense to me.

@BVale I'm not sure if your comment was literal or sarcastic but to answer your question, I don't celebrate those holidays in the traditional fashion nor do I see the point in celebrating my birthday; I think its kinda self centered. The only birth worth celebrating is Jesus, cuz I'm nobody.

@BVale Thanks, I appreciate the clarification. I do enjoy spending time with my kids and I do rest on the Sabbath. Perhaps even just enjoying a quiet day of rest is indeed equivalent to a celebration; just not according to tradition.

Surely IP it's time for you to ask to be received into the Catholic Church. When the authority of the Church was questioned, all forms of idiocy were let loose. Is it a coincidence that the Protestant movement started on October 31st? The printing press encouraged this stuff, and the internet has not made things any better. Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

This youtube channel is just for people who don’t want to let go of they’re wordly traditions, views in many subjects including the bible like the sethite view and want comfort/approval with someone telling them it’s ok to keep doing these things. Someone telling you its ok to celebrate a holiday that has NOTHING to do with the BEGOTTEN SON. Yet it involves a god of love. “Conspiracy people this and that” we get it you are trying to fit into the world. Yet the bible talks about the world be owned by the wicked... i guess its a conspiracy book. Prayers to all and the content maker! life is short and random so we should help all to get into the kingdom of THE MOST HIGH. The WORD of our HEAVENLY FATHER does talk about wolves in sheeps clothing. Beware and may our HEAVENLY FATHER be With all.

Romans 14:5-6 - One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.

It’s pagan, Catholic Holidays are not established by God or in the Bible at all. God details His Holy Days in Leviticus 23 and Deuteronomy 16. Christ Mass, Easter and Halloween are all wicked. Is Halloween not Samhain and Christ Mass not Saturnalia. Heathen traditions are not to be incorporated into following Scripture. It says so plain as day. Deuteronomy 12:32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it or take away from it.

Harmless Holy days? Who set them apart? If not God in Scripture then it is a made up heathen day or a way they worship their gods, regardless it isn’t from the God of the Bible who many claim to follow yet His Holy Days are absent in their lives so how are they following Him? Rome is Mystery Babylon, even their January 1st New Year is pagan. Follow them and you follow the Antichrist and are in the Apostasy of LAWLESSNESS as detailed in 2 Thessalonians 2. You want to follow YAH? Keep His commandments, anything else is a lie.

You need to really do a video on what holiness actually means. A LOT of Christian's have the wrong idea that you can somehow "lose holiness" by not living a certain way. The truth is that a Christian is already holy by being in the body of Christ and they can't earn it through good works or living a certain way.
