Of course you suggest the gen 2 over the gen 1 cause they cost more 😂😂

We need the flow map to really understand the differences between the two generation. I'm disappointed that "precision" don't show his flowing maps as well as Garrett and Borg Warner does

The main difference is a new stronger shaft that can stand more boost and is designed to be ball bearing from the beginning, instead GEN1 has a Garrett T4 type shaft. So now they can stick a heavier 7+7 compressor wheel without losing in transient response and boosting it even more than GEN1. However the new shaft is heavier and since there is more rotational mass, the surge line is moved to the right. In essence, if you plan to use your precision below 25 psi, stick with your Journal Bearing GEN1 it's a better choice. GEN2 is better than GEN1 only in high boost applications.

I've watched this video and find myself wanting. The contents in it could've been provided with a few bullet points. How about some images, comparison videos - like the same car/setup with a Gen 1 vs. a Gen 2, compressor maps, etc?

Actually, most testing has found the surge line is shifted right on the Gen 2. It would seem there's no free lunch, Tristan.

Hi, ive recently potentially replaced my 5558BB gen1 (i think as i didnt build the turbo) with a gen2 rebuild. My turbo now has like a siren noise on acceleration and deceleration. I replaced the whole unit with a brand new gen2 and no difference. i was wondering if it is surging at low RPM? and thats the difference? once its working the noise seems to go away. Its been impossable to get hold of precision as im in Australia. Its on a diesel so my boost comes in quick at low rpm. Any ideas?

From the video, the differences can be visually seen. There are 6 blade vs 7 and a back cut on the cold side fins to give it more of a curve on the blades instead of a straight blade.Exhaust is also back cut, or clipped.
I am guessing that conventional wheels aren't designed to spin as high as the ball bearings see , so the clip is to reduce surge and overall flow to keep it more stable? Is that about right? I'm not really sure,. But there's something to it ! Really would love to see the compressor maps for these to be able to plot for my own use. These are the key things that give competitive race teams, a chance to stay on the cutting edge.
Really cool product .The only thing I Wish, is that this company sold parts separately to service them out in the field. Other than that, I have not used a more durable unit than the ceramic ball bearing units. Quite impressive how much destruction a center bearing cartridge can take and still be ok, when other journal bearing cartridges would be totaled. I guess that's why they use ceramic ball bearings in jet engines now ?! To be able to spin one of these units dry with no oil by breathing on it is just incredible. Thumbs up! Now sell us parts to do our own research please.:)
