It's frustrating to see yet another video about how poor the quality of a Model X is. Too many comparisons are made between the Model X and competitors who start at a much higher price point. 100k for a car with these unique features is hardly unusual nowadays. 40k used to be the price of a semi high-end car. Nowadays, that's the price of a Honda. I personally have had a problem free ownership of a Model X for 5 years now. I've put over 220,000 miles on it, and I've never had problems with the Falcon doors. At 190k miles I had to replace the bushings on the driver side suspension. That's all. Basically, whoever watches this should know there are many out there who have had their Teslas for years, worry free.
Do a review on Benz cars using same standard, you will find lots of minor issues with Benz as well. I have both Model S and Benz AMG GLE 53($90K), lots of minor issues on Benz as well - loose/noise plastic panels in many places(exterior), ugly/cheap plastic door seals, press interior parts creak noises almost everywhere; engine jerky in low speed/stop,....
The model Ys are exceptional. Unfortunately, with a design like the X, it would be really expensive to correct everything and Tesla chose not to do it.
Just not a fan of the X. Going for the R1S instead. Im sure there will be similar quality issues but I just dont see why pay so much for the X. I didn't find it all that
This is so disappointing. I test drove a Model X over the weekend. One of the falcon doors wouldn't close with no body in the car or near it? I'd have to close it with the display unit in the drivers seat. It also had a loud squeaking noise in the back when I went over bumps. At the same time I LOVED IT!!! This video is scaring me away from wanting to order a new one. When are these quality issues going to be fixed? After so many years of Model X, shouldn't these issues be fixed?
The X has been in production since 2015. I think the complicated assembly that’s required on the assembly line is the major cause of the poor fit and finish. This is not a vehicle that’s meant for mass production.
This was not from the early ones. I have 2023 with ultrasonic sensors and hardware 3. This one doesn't have the ultrasonic sensors it means it has the hardware 4.
Got to ride a model y on my Uber and quality is so bad. Car felt cheap and doors are thin and rattled when opening and shutting. You could feel all the imperfections on the road and it rattles like my old Acura Integra. The technology is cool but I think the cheap feel and rattling would annoy me. Maybe I’ll rent one on Turo and give it another chance
I have had major problems with falcon wing doors during winter when there is snow and ice. Also the front door windows malfunction easily during winter.
I think you just gotta buy these cars knowing that they're built utilitarian in volume meant to get used and not really art pieces despite what people like to think they are. 110k for a plaid, you're buying the battery and drive train, build is tesla standards.
@@harmony3138 market choices are great, but a Mercedes is not a plaid, plus supercharger network. Model S owner here and I know that both the S and the X are built on the same platform but the build quality is noticeably different. I love my Model S but I would not drive a Model X.
The cost difference between the Tesla and the German OEMs has give and take. Tesla has many things down pat while the OEMs have issues…with the electronics systems, lack of range and the lack of good charging infrastructure.
My coworker had one. The door never opened when parked next to a pillar. We had to "escape" through the front doors. It was a little embarrassing for my coworker.
I love gull-wing doors but Not on the rear doors, seems pointless, as the rear seats get far less use. Model X looks like a great car but Tesla needs to work on quality.
One more reason justifying my BMW IX purchase decision over the Tesla Model X. I would be incensed to have the glass roof break in just one month on a $110K dollar car.
I think the x plaid is much more fun, I don't know why it has to have all these issues. The Y and 3 issues have been mostly ironed out, my 2023 Y compared to 2020 is night and day. 2023 near perfect build.
@@mt2nv1 I actually have had no issues with DC fast charging my IX, even at EA stations. In fact, I picked it up in Baltimore and drove it cross country back to WA state the day I bought it. You keep mentioning it's a $110,000 car, but the same car is selling A LOT MORE in other parts of the world. Cars are the cheapest in the USA, stop complaining.
Funny, Tesla has all of these quality problems, yet companies like Volvo/Polestar (which ironically build the EX90 and S60 here in the US), get flack for being owned by Geely, and their cars have NOWHERE near this level of shoddy build. Interesting how the perception of quality being subpar from Chinese ownership overshadows the blatant issues in US-built cars like these. Sounds like Tesla QC oversight is lax, no matter how many iterations of the same car come out. Unacceptable by any brand standards.
im not sure if this was intentional, but the reason for the front door handle all the way at the end of the door was so you dont have to press the close button near the handle, you can squeeze the handle with the thumb on the inside and fingers on the outside and it just closes for you. way more natural motion
This was a really solid review. I have a X Plaid and it has some build quality issues. I installed xPel Stealth immediately after I got it. It’s still by far the best car I’ve owned.
Makes the much smaller sales numbers understandable but you are paying for the gull wing doors ... the only in the Industry still...and Tesla knows this and is willing to accept the consequences. My only dislike for all Teslas but especially this is no mud flaps to keep the dings and gunk much reduced. Given the current price a Ford F150 et al more than worth the expense provided Tesla is willing to negotiate. The biggest collapse in the value of a used vehicle by percentage are the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y so "cheap for a reason."
pretty disappointing seeing I thought they had vastly improved on finish. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger until they improve on the plethora of defects. "Heffe, do you even know what a plethora is?"

Ford continues to have major, massive problems across all their vehicles resulting in voluminous costly recalls. And this says nothing about the poor engineering that is not immediately obvious. Amazed that you think Ford is good. I have a MME 4EX Premium. Certainly OT impressed with it on many levels…but then I saw Kyle Conor’s recent video about it and learned what a disaster of a vehicle it is. 3:13 On the F-35C where the wings fold up, we call that particular section the cove fairing.
Next review the Rivians terrible gaps and compare who’s worse
Highest percentage of cars recalled.... What do you expect?
It's not a car company, it's a tech company.
I wouldn't buy an Apple car or a Ford laptop.
They studied the 1990 LS400's build quality, and then did the opposite
look at the paint orange peel on the panel between the glass roof and the door at 3:45 and 6:30
Colton you need to put stickers around the car with paint thickness guides.
Its weird that Made in China cars are of higher quality, speaks of different workmanship of different gigafactory?
Just not a fan of the X. Going for the R1S instead. Im sure there will be similar quality issues but I just dont see why pay so much for the X. I didn't find it all that
Same employees who build his rockets!💥😂
Great review. Hope to see a 2023 Model S inspection videos too
This is so disappointing.
Model X has been in production for EIGHT years; this should be solved.
Excellent review. This review will definitely effect my decision when buying an EV. Thank you
I just want to thank you for your service to your country.
put together by robots and computer aided systems , still gaps ? how did they do it in the 50's-60's?
This is the early refresh Model X from 2021/2022. We need to see the quality from a newer 2023 version
This was not from the early ones. I have 2023 with ultrasonic sensors and hardware 3. This one doesn't have the ultrasonic sensors it means it has the hardware 4.
For $110k, I'd be refusing delivery if this is the example they provided. Shocking QA failures across multiple areas, a real friday afternoon car.
My new one doesn't rattle or anything and feels beautiful. My old one was a bit more rattling...I am blown away how nice the new Y are.
@@bitcoinman9202 that’s good they improved it because rattling and creeking while driving is a no no lol
Try a model 3. Your mind will be changed.
Rode in a m3 for an Uber in London. Was not impressed with the cheap interior quality. No excuse for a car that costs so much.
@@bgaviator I mean the Model 3 is about 32K. so
What a crappie car. People are so blind that pay all that money, for something that should cost 50%less.
I love your build quality videos, I think I'll go with the Model 3 Performance instead of the S Plaid
I have had major problems with falcon wing doors during winter when there is snow and ice. Also the front door windows malfunction easily during winter.
Do you feel the Tesla paint has orange peel look to it?
I think you just gotta buy these cars knowing that they're built utilitarian in volume meant to get used and not really art pieces despite what people like to think they are. 110k for a plaid, you're buying the battery and drive train, build is tesla standards.
At the price you can get a Mercedes EV, or even a Porsche EV (Macan next year).
Far better build quality.
@@harmony3138 market choices are great, but a Mercedes is not a plaid, plus supercharger network. Merc build quality today I'm not sure is that much better anyway, lots of plastics and interior snap panels just like everyone else. Maccan is to be seen. Current generation of all cars in each tier feel both cheap and expensive at the same time, just the age we're in it seems.
@@harmony3138 Even the cheapest Model 3 is a better EV ownership experience than the most expensive Porsche or Benz EVs on the market.
Model S owner here and I know that both the S and the X are built on the same platform but the build quality is noticeably different. I love my Model S but I would not drive a Model X.
The gaps at 33.33 is insane😂
The cost difference between the Tesla and the German OEMs has give and take. Tesla has many things down pat while the OEMs have issues…with the electronics systems, lack of range and the lack of good charging infrastructure.
My coworker had one. The door never opened when parked next to a pillar. We had to "escape" through the front doors.
It was a little embarrassing for my coworker.
I love gull-wing doors but Not on the rear doors, seems pointless, as the rear seats get far less use. Model X looks like a great car but Tesla needs to work on quality.
this is the thing holding me back from getting it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done. Very interesting. Thank you.
One more reason justifying my BMW IX purchase decision over the Tesla Model X. I would be incensed to have the glass roof break in just one month on a $110K dollar car.
That IX is such a beautiful car
I think the x plaid is much more fun, I don't know why it has to have all these issues. The Y and 3 issues have been mostly ironed out, my 2023 Y compared to 2020 is night and day. 2023 near perfect build.
You still need to deal with BMW charging and software. Tesla put the money where it counts.
@@mt2nv1 I actually have had no issues with DC fast charging my IX, even at EA stations. In fact, I picked it up in Baltimore and drove it cross country back to WA state the day I bought it. I mostly charge it is at home, and that is a breeze. I agree Tesla wins at the DC fast charging game, and I look forward to being able go use their chargers in the future.
@@mt2nv1 I agree the Supercharger network is superior and will likely be the real money maker for Tesla in the future when everyone adopts NACS but as it stands today if you can charge at home I would seriously consider other options besides Tesla at these price points.
Damn watching this makes me so much more happier with my model 3. I know that Tesla is not known for their build quality and have never checked out a model x in person but this is so much worse than I had expected.
Great review…seriously reconsidering if I want to pay $110K for all these flaws!
Good. Thanks,
Peter
In Finland only Juha Mieto would be surprised.
I would require Tesla to replace the entire vehicle. There is major misalignment indicating the entire body is out of specification.
I just saw a Model X in Jacksonville Fl and fell in love! What a fabulous car. Paint problem, get a wrap!
Really want one but these reviews keep me from pulling the trigger. But still trade the Stock..
All of this won’t stop the Tesla fanboys
sad but true
im not sure if this was intentional, but the reason for the front door handle all the way at the end of the door was so you dont have to press the close button near the handle, you can squeeze the handle with the thumb on the inside and fingers on the outside and it just closes for you. way more natural motion
Thx for sharing ❤
Hey Colton, I've been waiting to see this video. I'll be in touch in a day or two regarding the plans we have been discussing.
This was a really solid review. I have a X Plaid and it has some build quality issues. I installed xPel Stealth immediately after I got it. It’s still by far the best car I’ve owned.
MUSKED again.
The warping is from Plaid mode. 😅😅
pretty disappointing seeing I thought they had vastly improved on finish. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger until they improve on the plethora of defects. "Heffe, do you even know what a plethora is?"
they did for the 3/y, most issues ironded out, My new build is perfect. I think they honestly and sadly don't give a shit about the X. Which sucks because it is such a fun car.
The ultra red paint on my 2023 Tesla X is amazing, not one flaw. Check them out at a Tesla showroom.
Tesla needs to recognize that it’s a technology company, not a vehicle manufacturer. Let the Legacy auto companies build their cars
Imagine when Ford and the other legacy manufacturers start delivering cars with NACS?
With their better build quality, why would people buy teslas?
Ford continues to have major, massive problems across all their vehicles resulting in voluminous costly recalls. And this says nothing about the poor engineering that is not immediately obvious. Amazed that you think Ford is good. I have a MME 4EX Premium. Certainly OT impressed with it on many levels…but then I saw Kyle Conor’s recent video about it and learned what a disaster of a vehicle it is. Kyle and Munro convinced me that the newer EV startups have some issues but it sure looks to me like the legacy companies are bringing really bad ideas to their new EVs.
Why when they can milk people from their money
It's a free upgrade. Why are you complaining?
Folks, it's got to be the safety goggles at the manufacturing plant that's causing all these problems...
Great video, but this is still my dream car:)
Elon Musk be like: um actually your eyes need alignment.
