    Looks a great route for new bikepackers that want to try Scotland. Just keep the Loch on your shoulder and you'll be fine. Great video 👍

    Yep I’ve done the climb out of Fort Augustus on the military road with bike packing gear. Absolute killer at the end of a 5 day trip. Had to stop about 4 times up that climb and lie down.😅

    • @Cycling366
      @Cycling366  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha we’ve all been there my friend. I can always stop and use the opportunity to film, so it’s a bit of a cop out for me 😂

    You cheated lol the proper 360 doesn’t go up the military road but up the Loch Ness Trail the road is too easy.
    Interestingly you mentioning the fire there’s quite a lot of work parties going around the various areas digging out the remains of fires, filling them in and turfing them to stop folks doing exactly what you did. The big fire at Cannich was started by someone camping and doing that and everything has been so dry the estates are appealing for no 🔥certainly in some of the woodlands young cappercaillies are about and they are so precious.
    I love the bottom part of the Great Glen Way from Fort Bill to Fort Augustus which I used to do on the road bike as a wee day route. I quite fancy taking it easy on the gravel bike and having a wee camp.
    Anyway once again lovely filming.

      Haha I cut some corners but I don’t remember it feeling easier 😂 yeah, it’s always about common sense imo!

      @@Cycling366 yes the Loch Tarff climb isn’t the easiest but if you ever do it early morning and the mist is clearing and sun is shining as you reach the summit it’s a beautiful sight.
      The road version to Inverness is as good as the off road that’s why so many folk enter Etape Loch Ness though for me the year they had it in August will never be bettered and I’ll never do it as fast again lol.

    Great ride! I have kayaked the great Glen way and have been considering coming back to cycle it. With the terrain in mind, would you say a mountain bike would be better or would a gravel bike manage just fine too?

    • @SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636
      @SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gravel bike is fine as long as you have tyres above 40.

    • @outsideambition
      @outsideambition ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, might stick with the mountain bike then as mine are 35’s

    • @Cycling366
      @Cycling366  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah definitely doable on a gravel bike but agree with the above comment. Chunky tyres would be ideal. MTB is more fun on the descents too 😂
