I can't help but think that even if a good game is never made again we have access to more amazing games than we can ever master in a lifetime. It does not matter if another video game is ever made. Still, what i like about re-releases and re-masters of old 2D shooters (why people call them shmups and run n guns) is that for the vertical widescreen ones (why did they call it Tate?) has two thirds of the supposedly empty and dark screens in normal screens being covered by relevant information from scoring to characters and story. Even new, made-from-the-ground-up game like Raiden V follows the formula
i havent been able to play this game for a while. i ordered the physical version last week, but im still waiting on it. its cool to see other people going for the 1cc around the same time.
This was some GOD level stuff. Esprade was one of the first games I bought on PCB and not a day goes by I don't regret selling it. Thankfully they finally ported it so I could stop playing it on my Final Burn setup. Cave really peaked around 98-2004 with the 6800 and PGM stuff. I look at Air Gallet and Batsugun as Pseudo Cave shmups as they shared some of the same hardware or development staff.
@@Japheigod Won’t lie I would be fully stoked to have a cave pcb. I just have the PGM conversion carts. Some other PCBs but no Cave stuff. Esprade is pretty hard on me. It’s taking me a minute and I can’t wait to get back to it.
@@TheHiddenFortress81 It is one of those you have to clear your mind or you will just get wiped out. I kind of use musical cues with memorization to help me with patterns that I have mastered. I know it sounds weird but it somehow flows that way. I can't stand playing the OG Dodonpachi because they reuse some of the same music in different stages.

Ah, this video got me to give this oldie a spin and all the reasons I loathe the ESP games came flooooooding right back in~ The bosses with immortal sponge bodies. That make it even worse by turning your firing lane into a deathzone so you have to dodge around like a dipshit, as your trickle of DPS craters to nuthin'. How they're designed with 3 pixel bullet gaps and they expect you to spam the bomb button constantly. ... the sequel is much harder. But also full of much splashier jello. Life is a dichotomy of things. My favorite CAVE game is Dangun Feveron. It doesn't look like much, it might seem very generic on the surface. But the more you get into it, the more it opens up like a flower and begins to feel euphoric as you play it. We were really blessed to have these games. That these old masters had more to offer the world before being relegated to the odd, niche world of gacha Shm'ups.

The hit box feels too damn big. This has been my first time picking it up and…yeah it’s not my favorite one so far. For much the same reasons you posted. The god damn collectibles that always have a bullet mixed in…so…I thought about making a video about all that and why I’m kinda like “eh” with Esprade right now but I’ve been lazy with that. But yeah…this one isn’t my favorite. I have not tried Dangun yet but so far my favs are Ddp and DOJ I think.
@@TheHiddenFortress81 The Donpachi series is definitely their cornerstone. 'tis why they made so many of'em. Tons of us got into Shoot'em Ups during our callow youths on ze MAME thanks to DDP. Their Raizing-style games like Ibara and Muchi Muchi Pork aren't nearly as well liked, but the fact they invited these guys into their company to continue making games was super cool of them. I guess I do have some love for Armed Police Batrider, but wish that team mixed things up more with their games. The first half of the final stage of DeathSmiles is probably my favorite stage in all of Shoot'em ups... really felt like assaulting a castle... pity the rest of the game didn't live up to that standard. So close yet so far; I'm baffled why they never altered enemy formations with the difficulty settings. Also Guwange has a spider cat. I'm sad they never made another game with that theme; it really felt like walking around in hell on earth.

The idea of these children with ESP like battling this military enemy stuff….is very cool to me but I think I dig Ketsui more. I was recommended this as my entry to the genre. It’s harder than ketsui imo. Stage 4 is a pain. You’ll get it. You got daioujou you’ll get this. Im playing saidaioujou, almost regret looking forward to it lol
I haven’t got a 1cc on ketsui but can get to the end. Ive beat stage 4 esparade a couple times but usually I hit the cave wall of stage 3. Sdoj is insane I wasn’t ready for the heat. Stage 1 has kicked me more than I care to admit lol. Mainly cause everything happens regardless of whats going on. Example you can have bullets and pop corn or bigger enemies on screen and the mid boss still start his onslaught
Fucking hell man. Lmao. FUCKING HELL. Too real. Yeah. I'll admit it, shmups are my safe space too. I am gonna try to play less in 2025 and read more books and go to the gym more though. I just feel like my brain and body are getting weaker. I'm spending way too much of my dopamine on shmups. I cleared like 25 this year. It's insane. Way to tell it like it is though dude. It's surreal to come across a gaming channel on youtube that's so honest.
