Really great video, well done man! I was laughing the whole time. These are my favorite kinds of videos in the genre, the ones where it's one part player, one part game. "Always get up again", hell yeah, looking forward to your next one
4:11 Secret Biz Markie Tech Great video brother! I think showing the struggle and our “failures” is key. I’m reading a book right now called “The Inner Game of Tennis”. It goes into this idea of trying too hard - like what happening in your Ketsui run where you’re dying in different places makes it hard to play effortlessly because your always trying to correct all the past mistakes all at once. The “coach” part of your brain is over-instructing the “player” part and it kills its confidence. Might be an interesting read! Copyrighted music gang member right here - let’s go!
Nice to see frequent uploads! Some tips on Galuda's final sequence: - charging up your bomb and point blanking (like, getting right on top of the boss) does huuuge damage - when charging, be sure to leave a sliver of your bomb meter for an emergency bullet cancel - iirc during the very final phase you cannot damage the boss while in slow mo, so use it in short bursts to move into a safer position when the orbs start to close in on you (instead of one long slow mo) - good luck and don't burn yourself out :)
Okay so I checked my replay and it seems like you do *some* damage in slow mo during the final pattern (kinda hard to tell) but very little! So it's still something to consider.
@@hazylevels You just cleared up some things for me! Slow motion, doesn’t damage the final boss! This whole time I was thinking it was just doing very little damage! Hah! Thanks Hazy! The end of this game….is so crazy haha :)
@@hazylevels I’ve been playing a lot today, making some progress. I think I watched your video on it a while ago…gonna watch it again tonight. The tip about leaving a sliver of meter was so obvious, but you’re so right and I didn’t even think of that! Just from that now I’m making it to the final boss fights but with 1 life left so…much more practice is needed. But I kinda love this game.
The struggle is real. You often hear people recommend Espgaluda as a beginner friendly shmup, but as you’ve identified here, that final boss is no joke! If you can master the first 4 stages and get to the end with a lot of resources the final boss is manageable. It’s a fun ride and worth the effort. Great game!
@@1CCJAM I’m really enjoying it. Right now I’m going back and forth between practicing the final bosses and stages 3,4,5,6. If I keep jumping around it stays fresh. Getting a lot of tips from everybody.
Okay so…funny thing I’ve been playing a lot to day dude…so…what you said makes so much sense cause damn near every run I do from the beginning I end up at the final bosses with 1 life left. And that’s it. Final life. It’s almost the same as Ketsui. And what’s amazing is that’s how my DOJ blk lbl experience was til I got that for a while. So…you’re dead on. The trick is to master the first like 4 stages…
I feel like that’s how sharp the game design is in these cause every time I get into one of these it’s almost the same exact place where I get shut down. Make it to the end with nothing left haha
@@TheHiddenFortress81 Yep, spot on. Resource management is an important part of routing. Making sure you have those resources for the last stage and final boss are important. If you can optimise those first 4-5 stages, using strategic bombing, speed killing etc. you won’t have to dodge everything at the end. You can then refine your strategy for the final boss. Learn what patterns in the final boss you can reasonably dodge and then identify the patterns in the fight where you need to bomb. That will give you the answer of what resources you will need at the end. For example In my latest Akai Katana clear I realised I needed at least 4-5 bombs to dispatch the final boss with ease, so I began optimising the run so I would have that stock at the end. Lol, in some games you can just bomb the hell out of the final boss once you get there.
Ketsui kicked my ass at stage 5 too man lol, I'm taking a break from it rn also. Found your channel because I've been mainlining Blue Revolver and found your commentary. Small world, or great minds think alike, or whatever. Great video!
Espgaluda is a personal cave fave. Love the slow down and bomb mechanics, more beginner friendly. Level 3 boss always gets me so a 1cc is a distant dream
@@davedesandro Literally practicing the final bosses now and it is an intense, masterpiece of a video game. Also, I take a lot of hits on that damn boss too haha
Ketsui gang gang. Progress in shmups is rarely a straight line (in my limited experience). Practicing 6 hours today doesnt mean i'll automatically be 6 hours better. There's sticking points and walls, and backsliding. But then there's those random days when you seem to have levelled up. What some people overlook when trying to take on a huge challenge, is even the grindy days are supposed to be fun.
I definitely agree with taking breaks, though I always go back to a 16-bit game I have down as some popcorn, as opposed to popping in something different. Playing a game that's "easier" to some degree allows you to take time to just refocus, and it also puts into perspective how much better you've become. I'm still at it memorizing Very Hard on Harmful Park, 90s Konami shows no mercy at those highest levels of difficulty. Routing on 3 and 4 isn't that bad, but there's lots of little stuff in stage 2 that really just surprises me every time I do a run that just requires some clinical memorization (though, I'm the first to admit that I don't play consistently, so it always takes longer than people who play every day or two).
I try to focus on little milestones along the way to keep me going. Like with cave games it definitely starts with getting past stage 3 or getting a 1cc on the arrange modes. I've been working on a 1cc for crimson clover for years and I definitely take long breaks but I always come back to it and keep plugging away. I think I've reached a point where even if I never get there I still am ok with the journey. Great video looking forward to more.
Well I'm doing Blue Revolver rn, in between my sessions of Redout 2 (extremely fast and complex antigrav racing) and Monster Hunter Sunbreak (my favorite franchise of all time, super comfy to me but can get really hard at points) and I'm thinking about all the other shmups I have unfinished business with. The original Dodonpachi, later difficulties of Mushihimesama (probably my favorite Cave game) Crimzon Clover past the Novice mode, the next mode of Danmaku Unlimited 3. Giga Wing? I might go back and do a few 1CC runs of Batsugun Special and Graze Counter, these are my favorites and a good easy warmup.
DoDonpachi is kicking my ass. I was feeling good when doing loading save states. Now that I've started going for the 1CC.... it's kicking my ass so hard and I feel like I'm watching someone else play the game for the first time. When I think more objectively.
