That’s actually a pretty good comparison. They’re the fast food of metal. Or even the instant noodles of metal. FFDP is probably the only band I actively dislike (not only due to their uninspired music and absolutely stupid lyrics, but also due to their fanbase being unbearably toxic).

I know somebody who met Ivan Moody and told him he wasn’t a fan of FFDP. Ivan responded to him saying that it was alright and at the very least he likes Metal at a young age and thought that it would help the Metal community grow. With that being said, whatever your opinion is about FFDP, you can at least say that Ivan is a positive figure inside the metal community

Today I listened to Frances the Mute by Mars volta again.
A prog rock album that has to be the most interesting album I've heard up to this point, with weird psychedelic moments and bizarre ambience (this album really isnt for everyone), but also some rocking sections and moments that make my hairs stand on edge. The lyrics are equally as strange, but they still keep coherent plot points and motifs throughout (yes this is a concept album).
You might wonder why I'm talking about The Mars volta and not anything to do with the video, right? Well, this album is a memorable experience whereas FFDP is limp, tryhard music for tryhards.

I was a 5FDP fan back in school, their first 4 albums had a lot of importance to me back then, and I'll always defend those as they still have a special place in my heart. Despite being fully aware that Ivan Moody is an unbelievably awful lyricist, I do still love some of the riffs they wrote back in those days, and the hooks they wrote still at least had some power! Even their 5th album had a couple of pretty decent songs on it. However, from Got Your Six onwards everything they have done has been absolutely, totally awful, the purest definition of "phoned in crap"
The trouble is that because of those first 4 albums and what they mean to me, it means I will always give them a chance with a new release. I have heard the singles and I have to say, they're awful as I expected, some of the worst I've ever heard from them. This band is without a fucking doubt the most frustrating thing in my life, simply because I know they have it in them to write semi-interesting music, and that they're more than competent enough musicians (especially now with the addition of Andy James who is a fucking fantastic guitar player), but instead of actually pushing themselves they just shit out the same sounding release every 2 or 3 years, with each one getting more stale and bland as they go on. Saddest thing is I know I'm still gonna listen to this and try to like it, despite knowing full well there's gonna be absolutely nothing to like 🤣

I think like many others have commented, I liked 5FDP in their early days (War is the Answer, American Capitalist). But somewhere around Got Your Six, things shifted as, well, they didn't. And look, I'm not against bands finding a sound and a formula and sticking with it. But the return on investment from every album after has been decreasing. But given their commercial success, I'm not sure they feel like making any changes is necessary.
Best of luck with the comments video!

I hate them because their lyrics are childish and rely way too much on profanity, the music is lazy, formulaic and that's WITH Kevin Churko their producer helping out on songwriting.
Compare what they're doing now to the Way of the Fist. It was not a perfect album by any means but it had urgency to it. Lyrics were embarrassing then but the contributions of Matt Snell, Darrell Roberts and Jeremy Spencer made the music better.

Been browsing through your content and that seems like a common trend for you. In those cases I don't think you're really reviewing anything, at least not objectively. You're just s**ting on music you were never gonna enjoy anyway. Which you're free to do I suppose, but calling it a review doesn't make it any more valid. It's not supposed to make you think or find some deeper meanings. The lyrics are SUPPOSED to be surface-level. The music isn't supposed to be progressive & forward-thinking. It's literally supposed to be predicatble, safe and a good money-making investment that targets a uhhh... "certain demographic." They're not aiming for the Periphery fans or trying to pull Lorna Shore fans. It's supposed to draw in people that want something "heavy like Godsmack."

My relationship with FFDP has been quite the glorious trainwreck. Like, imagine a freight train reaching the top of the hill. You have War is the Answer, which some genuine bangers and brutally honest songs about Veteran PTSD.
Then the train starts going downhill and accelerating, where I started realising something was off. American Capitalist still had some great hooks with "the Pride", but it was making the political stance very clear, and I was already growing out of it. Plus the lyrics to the Pride are about on par, creativity wise, as the Fast Food Rockers.
Now we know the train's breaks have failed. I stopped listening to them, but still saw an album advertised on the back of Metal Hammer Magazine as "the album the Politically Correct don't want you to hear!", which I rolled my eyes at. It's the same old whining about "Censorship" which is still around today under the label of "Cancel Culture", when all it takes to be "Cancelled" is to be lightly criticised for saying something shitty.
Then their last album dropped and they made an anti-mask conspiracy music video. The train has officially jumped the rails and become a flaming wreck of scrap metal. Makes me glad I got off when I did, 'cause they are just another step in the alt-right pipeline. It wouldn't surprise me if they got soundbites from Jordan Peterson or Matt Walsh in their new album, though I suspect they aren't that desperate yet.
I'm not an alcoholic, but I get the feeling that FFDP might change that if I ever have to listen to one of their albums in full.

The two biggest problems they have are ivan moody and absolute laziness. Think about it, their first 3 records were hard to top because the tones were aggressive, the lyrics actually somewhat meant something other than i hate the world or im sad and that makes me hate the world, the drumming was brutal, hell they even had bass lines from Matt Snell and Chris Kael. What pisses me off about Zoltan Bathory is the fact that he CAN shred, he just chooses not to, leaving it up to Jason Hook and Andy James. Though ivan moody has been sober for almost half a decade, props to him, it's pretty much done nothing lyrical wise to the band. So yeah laziness is the only way I can describe them, and I used to be a fan of them.

They’ve been getting worse and worse with every album, at least the last few had one or two songs that were pretty solid, this doesn’t even have that

I liked some of the songs, so whatever I guess, to each their own opinion.. ffdp got me into metal 14 years ago, so they are the reason I discovered all the bands I know now.. lol 😅

five finger death punch is the type of band you put as background music while you do something else.
another thing, if you don't have expectation for a an album go for it

I have a question: is Spencer still in the band? Also the more you said about the album the more I dread listening to it. But since I am a metal connoisseur I will. Don’t want to but I will.

As in Jeremy Spencer? Hell nahh, he left to go work on Psychosexual/Psycho Synner. Which is somehow significantly worse lmao.

I am kinda a fan of ffdp but just from the singles alone it feels like the band's on cruise control at this point.

It has been on cruise control since Wrong Side Pt.2 IMO.
