Its really fun to watch 40-50 year old men who keep claiming to be super strong and tough and impossible-to-offend breaking down immediately upon hearing somebody disagree with them, and genuinely hilarious to see y'all get even more upset about Charlie Benante's name being mispronounced. Imagine being so easily triggered by such a simple mistake. Gonna turn all your comments into a drinking game so keep the hate coming. 😎
Dude, why are all you metal news commentators so anal retentive. You seriously need to relax, have an enema, do a cleanse, something. You have issues. ...get help
What's even more funny (at least to me) is that a guy, with over 200K subscribers said in the comments pretty much the same thing that the other fanboys keep saying, which is "Gatekeeping is bad, im going to the concert either way" all while at the same time he is Milking a company called Gamestop for views, not to mention, he also made a video 2 months ago literally titled "Johnny Depp WILL NOT win this Trial" which you know. Is funny considering he won said trial.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial i think his name was something like Camelot with caps, but you'll know it once you see a checkmark next to his name, which is only given to channels with over 100K subs
That was litterally ny instinct on this whole thing. Once vinnie was out of the picture resting in peace with his brother dime. Phil and zakk wylde wasted no time finally getting this reunion going. Dick move phil. Dick move
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Adam Lambert is a great singer in my opinion, but without Freddie it feels weird. And I agree, Adam Lambert is better than Paul.
Opinions man. Everyone has one. PanterA has always been my favorite band. I’m now 40 and saw them live 10 times back in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Got to hang out with them multiple times too. I’m almost positive this will NOT be billed as a “Reunion “ but as a tribute. Zakk was one of dimes best friends and Charlie was also very close buds too. They will do it right and although they can’t duplicate Dime and Vince exactly I don’t think they are trying to. It’s gonna be a tour to honor the legacy of Dime, Vince and the band. Like it or not it happening.
Has nothing to do with opinions it has to do with one of the last recorded interviews with Vinnie Paul on that metal show he said there should never be a Pantera reunion cuz dimebags dead so it'll never be Pantera this is just a cash grab and it said. They're literally doing what Vinnie Paul asked and said to never be done so he's spinning in his grave dying and Vinnie Paul are probably spinning in their graves right now
As someone who genuinely strongly considers Pantera to be their favorite band ever, I absolutely am against this idea. First off, you can’t replicate Darrels guitar playing or Vinnie’s drumming period. Second off, Phil, as much as I adore his fucking voice, had alot of problems during Panteras fame that resulted in them breaking up. Third off, like you said, Darrel and Vinnie don’t want Phil to be part of Pantera anymore.
I agree somewhat. But, it's not up to Dime or Vinnie to say who Pantera is, its beyond them. It belongs to the fans they created with their music. When Damage Plan was formed, it was nowhere close to Pantera, so obviously the magic wasn't just with the brothers. They didn't sound like Pantera, but Pantera wouldn't sound like Pantera without them. The magic was with the 4 collectively. Phil is as much as the sound of Pantera as any of them. And it was when they got him that Pantera took off after years of going nowhere. So, obviously he was key to their success. I think the main problem people are having is how it's being labeled. They have no problem with Phil and Rex playing Pantera songs. But, it's clearly not a reunion. That seems more like the media spinning it to create a buzz, to create controversy for clicks, to created engagement, which it's clearly doing.
Pantera without Anselmo is just damage plan. Damage plan had nothing special with both Abbott brothers. Phil made pantera a powerhouse, not the hair metal band they initially intended to be.
@@CM-ng9kv while Phil Anselmo was a big part of Pantera, you have to remember. Pantera wouldn’t exist without Darrel or Vinnie. They’re the ones that founded Pantera in 1981 and back then Phil wasn’t even the singer. Terry Glaze was. Also Damageplan kicked ass and idc what anyone says
You think you are very purist, I saw the news and I was happy because I saw it as a tribute, not as a meeting and it is obvious that dime and vinnie are unmatched and this tribute will be for them
I don't really think that it's a bad thing. Of course it's not going to be the same as it would be if Dime and Vinnie were alive and participated on the tour but I am happy that they decided to put all this bullshit aside and do it for the fans. If you think about it as a Pantera tribute tour then it's not really something to scoff at. The band could never be as they were in the 90s but at least some of us will have the opportunity to see 2/4 alive members play all these legendary songs after 21 years under the Pantera name.
I love Pantera and they were one of the first metal bands I ever got into. With that being said this is a horrible idea. Vinnie and Dime were the heart and soul of Pantera and without them you don't have Pantera. Zakk Wylde is an insanely talented guitarist, but he doesn't have the same style that Dime had. Charlie Benante is a great drummer but he doesn't have the same style as Vinnie does. If this was a tribute to Pantera I wouldn't mind but it shouldn't be called Pantera without the Abbott brothers.
man, embrace it...it's a tribute and zakk and charlie would never try to disrespect the legacy of the lost members, everyone knows this...i'd go see em and feel good about it
One would think Zakk should already know what Dime and Vinnie thought about this idea. I've always been a fan of Zakk regardless if it was BLS, Pride and Glory, Book of Shadows etc. but this really makes me wonder wtf he's thinking.
I mean, can we step back a second and just appreciate Phil and Rex for not trying to do this while Vinnie was alive and causing a lot of unneeded anger that would have been dragged out publicly? Or that they actually got the blessings of the Abbott family estate to do this instead of going through a legal battle like so many other bands have? There's a certain level of respect being portrayed here that is largely being ignored and I don't think it's fair to ignore it.
@@micuentabasura according to Zakk and Rita, there were discussions of this taking place when Vinnie was still alive. I think his personal grudge with Phil was the only roadblock. Edit: punctuation
@@micuentabasura They are half of the Band. It's exclusively Rex and Phil's band now. They can do what they want. Vinny and Dime were in the wrong as far as I'm concerned.
@@mr.brenman2132 Vinny and dime were in the wrong ? Explain your hypothesis, did Darrell and vinnie run away from pantera ? Did Darrell and Vinnie stay out of contact with Phil ? Did Darrell say Phil needs to be beaten severely ?
There's tons of Pantera fans who never had the chance to watch them live, unfortunately without Vinnie and Dime this is the closest we can ever get to a full Pantera lineup, I think it's great and the music and legacy from Vinnie and Dime might reach a lot of new fans out there, or fans who are too young to have seen them live. People need to stop hating at everything cool that happens lol.
Bonnie and dime wanted nothing more to have Phil come back to pantera and make music. Phil turned his back on pantera in there prime. He started a new band. He didn’t even go to dimes funeral. Dime was shot by a fan who thought he broke up the band. Dime was killed because of Phil. Now it’s a money grab and disgraceful!
The only things I hate about this tour is that it's promoted as a reunion and not a Tribute Tour and I agree call it a band name close to Pantera but not Pantera. And if they decide to make music call it something completely different out of respect for Vinnie and Dime.
They don't have to do this. At the end of the day this is treat for most fans. I don’t know, I really can’t see why they can’t make a tasteful tribute to the band. People shouldn’t have huge expectations or get too upset over this thing.
Remember the early UK punk band The Ruts? ("Babylon's burning") When their lead singer Malcome Owen ODed the surviving members continued as RUTS DC ("Ruts De Capo"). Recently they released a kickass reunion album under that altered moniker ("Music Must Destroy").
I think the problem is that they’re doing this under the pantera name. If vinnie were still alive and participating in this with zakk on guitar playing tribute to his friend dimebag it would be better recieved. But in this circumstance it feels like a cash grab for Phil and Rex. They would be better served calling themselves the cowboys from hell or something. Not pantera
This is all so spot on man. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to tell people online. This is not something Vinnie wanted when he was alive..Phil wasn’t even invited to Dimes funeral. This is absolute horse shit
Totally agreed The wishes of the Abbot Brothers were very clear These idiot fanboys in the comments sections selfishly wish to go against the wishes of Vinnie Paul, and in doing so, disrespect Dimebag Darrell I did not go to their shows in 2023 and I don’t plan to go period
Dimebag and vinnie put people in the seats at pantera concerts. Around 95' fans were getting sick of phils onstage banter but most people went to see Pantera to see those two. Take those two out of the equation... To me its a sour taste in my mouth considering how phil and rex treated the abbott brothers .
those early albums are actually pretty damn good.. there is some bogus shit in there too but you are missing out on some killer guitar work. In the bigger picture, with all things considered like recessions and wars and pandemics etc. This isn't anything to freak out over.its entertainment . They picked very competent people with close ties to the Abbott brothers.. I've heard of a lot of worse ideas for sure like that Motley Crue disaster. The one thing you can certainly count on is Charlie and Zakk giving 110% and not showing up to just get paid.
I've no doubt Charlie and Zakk will give their all (hell they're liking the best part of this whole thing), but the whole still feels disingenuous and gross. I'll concede I'd rather see this than Motley Crue right now lmao, definitive trainwreck band.
@Nicholas Colvard😭....sounds like some damn country lyrics. " Ive been cryin' away on the internet, ive been mopin and whining all night long. But it won't be me who will by a concert ticket to see a band who can't finish one damn song."
Great video..The fact that now they have released this trailer on Dimes Birthday I find highly disrespectful. This is a cash grab the only way they know pure and simple - orchestrated by Phil, Rex & Rita which will also be used to push the new "Dime Guitars" and if Vincent was still alive this would never ever happen.
It's a cash grab for sure. Rita sues Dean and now this? I'm guessing the Pantera legacy wasn't providing the comfy lifestye that Rita got accustomed to. Vinnie was adamantly against any kind of "reunion". Saying that you're doing this to honor him is straight bullshit.

Makes you wonder if the original line up would have reunited after Covid. So many bands did. I was in high school when ‘Far Beyond’ came out and already was a huge fan. Phil destroyed his life and relationships with his hardcore addiction issues. I met Vinnie at a CD signing while he was in Hell Yea- awesome guy. Pantera has this raw unmatched power in their prime. If Dime and Vinnie were here, I fully think by now they would have reconciled. I also fully think that Pantera would have gotten back together. It would have took Dime to convince Vinnie. Dime would have been the one to reach out first I think.
Absolutely, I could be wrong but I heard that Dimebag wanted to go back to Pantera in late 2004 but the unfortunate ending happened before anything was confirmed
Actually, this guy is a tool. Both Dime and Vinnie said that if Phil got himself together they would reunite. Phil kept making promises to deliver and then Phil would ghost them, not return calls, etc. Their issue with Phil was mostly professional and not so much personal. This guy literally said Phil and Rex did not "define" Pantera. What an idiot. Damage Plan would've taken off if that were true. If there was never a Phil Anselmo, there never would've been a Pantera. At the end of the day, no matter how talented the guitar player and the drummer are, without the right singer ...you go nowhere. I agree with you. Had Dime and Vinnie ever became convinced Phil wanted to get back with them and keep it real ...they would've been all for it. Like I said before, Dimebag said a year or so before he was murdered.
@@owl509 You're right? He did. I saw the interview. Phil sold them out. Phil was ghosting them on all their plans to get together. Dimebag said if Phil ever got serious about starting Pantera up again, he would do it. Vinnie said the same thing, only Vinnie was more adamant about Phil showing them something 1st before committing. Have you ever been in a band. I have, few people understand how frustrating it is for bandmembers to not always be showing for practice, business appointments, press, and all the rest. Even for parties. No shows for parties is a downer. For at least 2 years Phil kept making plans to reunite with Pantera and then would cancel, without even telling them. Phil wouldn't even return calls to let them know he was bailing. So yeah, business wise they were pissed at Phil. This guy is tool. he doesn't know WTF he's talking about. He doesn't even know what the estate is. The estate are the surviving family and business partners and not the deceased persons. He stated Dimebag's girlfriend patched things up with Phil in complete contradiction to his statements that the estate would not approve.. I saw the clip where she gave her blessings on the reunion. If Phil released a statement that the estate approved of it, then it's true. PROOF: The moniker "Pantera" is owned by the Estate. The Abbot brothers own it ...therefore the estate owns the moniker Pantera. Phil cannot do a tour as "Pantera" unless the estate gave him permission. Like I said before, this vlogger has no idea what he's talking about. A complete waste of internet 1's and 0's No one from Vinnie's estate has commented, yet this douche is talking in 1st person like he knows these people personally. I'm from Louisiana. I know many of the people in all those sludge metal bands around Pantera. I know the soundman that was working the show the night Dimebag got murdered. Both Phil and Zakk are alcoholics. They get themselves together and put something out that is top notch ...the 2023 tour will be a hit. One last thing. Why do you think they're announcing so early? My guess is they're working on new material and I'm predicting the tour will be supporting a new album. Fuko this douche ....he doesn't have a clue. ..
Bro get over it. If you look at it as a tribute to Vinnie and Dime then that’s what it is. You’ve got two original members of one of the best metal bands ever alongside one of Dime’s best friends and they’re gonna be playing the songs we love. Some of y’all are never happy.
@@AndDeathForAll82 I’m talking about the version of Pantera that anyone cares about. Dime and Vinnie are everything, I have several mutual friends that knew them well. I’m still buying a ticket the second it goes on sale because it’s Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown and Zakk Wylde playing Pantera songs.
Simply put, this is the correct take, Robert. It’s a nostalgia cash grab trip. I’m not opposed to this lineup touring and celebrating Pantera’s legacy (because humans are complicated and it’s legit for Rex and especially Phil to seek redemption, to think through his relationship with his fallen comrades), but using the name Pantera and calling it a reunion is just dishonorable and wrong. Vinnie’s take on the reunion was always 100% right.
I’m 55 years old. Seen Pantera live a few times and even met them backstage on the FBD tour in 94. Most balls out live show in the history of metal. Pantera were unbelievable in their prime. Nobody wanted Pantera as an opening act because they would get demolished by Pantera. So they went on to headline and that’s where they belonged. I’ve been a big fan of Pantera since phil joined them on Power Metal. I knew they would just continue to get heavier and heavier on each album. Meanwhile, Metallica (who should’ve been flying the metal banner) were cutting their hair and wearing makeup. Pantera was the metal banner bearer during the 90’s and they were untouchable. As far as a “reunion” goes…..well, it’s obvious that’ll never happen. Dime and Vin are gone. So a Pantera reunion is not a real thing. If Phil and Rex want to grab Zakk and Charlie to play some Pantera songs then they have every right to do so. But if they do it under the Pantera name, I don’t know how to feel about that. Maybe call it something else. Like a Pantera album name (far beyond driven ex.) or something. Or Fantera 🤣. I don’t know. It’s kinda sacred to us that we’re there to witness the real Pantera. But I understand it. There are a lot of younger Pantera fans that weren’t even born by the time Dime got killed. And I know they’d love to see a show with live Pantera music. So I get it. Phil and Rex were just as much a part of the band as Dime and Vin. But the Abbott brothers did start the band and Dimes guitar is the Pantera sound. So it’s a tough call. I think they can pull it off if they did it properly. I just don’t know what that “properly “ looks like just yet. Regardless, I’ll go see them with my 17 year old son. He loves Pantera and he’s a guitarist that loves Dimebag. I just wish I could be taking him to see Pantera with Dimebag and Vinnie still in the band. But that will never happen. So I’ll have to be happy to see Phil, Rex, Zack and Charlie playing some of the most badass music ever written. I just hope they do Dime and Big Vin justice in the end. Pantera forever!!!FTW👊🏻🤘🏻
I saw pantera in there prime as well. I actually am pretty stoked to go. I want to hear and see that music live at least once more in my life. I think they should call it a tribute show rather than a reunion . 🤘
I feel like Phil and Rex should take a page from The Grateful Dead’s playbook. They have continued to exist in various incarnations since Jerry passed (I’m not even talking about without original line up thing); none of them, however, have used the branding of The Grateful Dead proper.
Who's Charlie Bennett? Why are you putting it all on Phillip, when Rex is doing it too. If anyone is "selling out" then it isn't just Phillip. For the record I agree that this isn't a good idea and not having a go at you, just puzzled that you are only calling Phillip the sell out when surely Rex is also guilty of "selling out"....
I think if dime and Vinnie can see this they will make it so the tour doesn't do good but I know a lot of young fans want to see "Pantera". Even though it's only 2 guys. The estates only are doing it for the cash. It just looks bad in the big scheme. Like Phil and Rex have the power now that Vince is dead so they're going to try and capitalize on it. I'll probably still go and see it if it comes here but I'm not fully for it either. And I hate how all the younger fans like that rock news feed guy gets all giddy over this. Like bro, you'll be seeing Phil and Rex, not Pantera. Phil and Rex should just get down going again and tour on that. Phil had always been selfish and probably resented Vince for not forgiving him. It is very disrespectful. This is sad.
I heard that Rex and Phil signed a contract to do this about 24 hours ago and insanely thought, "PAYCHECK." I don't agree with any of it. Especially how Phil and Rex left the Abbott brother's hanging. The way Phil acted on stage with them, the way he believed he could make a new band better than Pantera. It's been 20 years and yes, there probably is an audience. But this is a cash grab tribute. There is no integrity in this, no character, and the obviousness that Phil and Rex aren't doing as good without the Abbott brother's is blatantly obvious. I'd honestly prefer to see Phil and Rex reunite with Down, before any sort of Pantera bit.
Finally, someone is seeing the light on this! The Pantera of 92-96 is what people loved. People loved the lean, crazy shaved head Phil. Not the black-metal death-growl dumpster junkhead Phil. Certainly not the white wine drinking Phil. Sorry if you were born in 2002, but that Phil we saw in the early 90s is long gone. What we are witnessing is a heartless bilk of the young and gullible fans out there. One last payday before Phil and Rex retire to Florida to play golf all damn day. What a way to go out. Giving people a pseudo-band hodgepodge at 90 bucks a throw. A New Level, indeed.
When I saw the breakout video on the reunion, I was more like”…huh…” more than “oh my god finally!” because of the simple fact of their is no Dimebag or Vinnie. The Zakk Wyld thing has been in the air for many years of potential players and with that coming to fruition doesn’t surprise me. A part of me would like to see this but i do think it is disgusting if they keep the Pantera moniker. I get it Phil and Rex are part of the Pantera band but just like you stated with Joy Division and New Order bands, they should make it more of a supergroup tribute Pantera band like “Cowboys from Hell” or anything. Idk I’m not behind this really. Also hearing Phil singing nowadays is just horrible. Can’t imagine the his Illegals vocal singing Cemetary Gates or Cowboys from Hell.
Opinions are like assholes and everyone has them. I think this is a great thing. It's a great thing for the people who don't complain about everything and take it as it comes. There's a reason why we never seen or heard a bunch of whiny pussies back in the 90's but hey it's going on whether anyone likes it or not but hey at least you all have something new to bitch about.
Oh wow. How dare these older guys try to relive the glory days and make some money. How dare these guys want to continue a band they played a long time in. And how dare they choose Dimebags best friend to fill in. Shame on the thousands of fans that would like to see this. What a bunch of bull shit. Why can’t they do it? Legacy shmagacy, all these guys are getting up there and it’s what they want to do. That’s their band. If they want to do it, even if it’s cringy, fucking let ‘em.
That doesn’t make much sense. Cliff Burton was killed and Metallica did pretty good. Bon Scott of AC/DC died and everyone thought they were done. Yet the put out their biggest album of all time with Back in Black. It’s all a matter of perspective. Would I rather see Dimebag and Vinnie alive and still in Pantera? Yeah, of course. But that’s not gonna happen. I was lucky enough to catch Pantera live in the 90’s. Even had backstage passes for the 94 show in Nashville. Still have my shirt signed by Dimebag, Phil and Rex. Good times. I understand what you’re saying. But if there’s an audience, the show will go on. I just hope they don’t trample on the legacy of Pantera. And with this lineup, there’s a decent chance they’ll kick ass. Only time will tell. All those dudes are getting pretty old (myself included) So if they get up on stage and loiter like old guys, it’ll be pretty lame. If they bring the heat, then I think it’ll work. Definitely a gamble.
@@Wargasm54 yeah but the way Phil and Rex left Pantera, it just leaves alot of people who are on the Abbott brothers side pretty disappointed. They made the name, and started the band. It just looks like a massive cash grab.
Important historically? Yes. Not everyone is that sentimental lol. In 2022 most little kids learn Pantera songs pretty early on because of how, easy they are. Solos included. So I doubt Zakk fucking Wylde would somehow betray Dimes easy af riffs.
CFH was one of their best albums hands down. It had more of the thrash riffs as opposed to slow groovy riffs far better than reinventing and trendkill. First 3 were the best.
Love Pantera but Phil, you have Down, you have the Illegals, a Pantera reunion is unnecessary without it’s core founders. So please don’t. Just let Pantera stay as it is. Yes, I’m aware you want to keep Dimebag and Vinnie’s legacy alive, Yes You’ve made peace with Rex, yes you finally were allowed to head to a funeral for one of your former friends (Vinnie) and yes you’ve survived the impossible. But a reunion for Pantera just won’t work. Unless you decide to get Terry Glaze back on rhythm guitar but that would be confusing as shit lol. If you still want to bring back Pantera, Name it something else like “Pantera: The Next Generation” at least, I mean Sublime knew that they had to change to “Sublime with Rome” when they reformed, and Thin Lizzy had to change to “Black Star Riders” when they reformed. So yeah Phil, please don’t. (Ironically, he’s trying to reunite a band where there are no original members left now.)
Fact is, this is a karaoke kind of thing. Zakk Wylde, love him, but he isn't as gritty as Dime was, and Charlie is no Dave Lombardo, Charlie can't switch styles as much. He for SURE, doesn't have the power Vinnie had. I honestly can't believe this is actually happening... When Vinnie passed, so did Pantera.
Baad take Charlie kicks ass, the actual drummers I know and play with would vehemently disagree with your take . Heard Charlie kill the Rush stuff? This will be no prob for him .and I'm a Lombardo fan too and he's every bit as talented , Dave probably have no pro lem telling you that himself and the proofs I the material and harpies been killing it for decades.
What else they got? I think there just trying to cash in as much they can!! For me pantera is Phil, dime,Rex and vinnie ! I’m a fan of Wylde, but he’s cashed in on dimes dime since he passed! This isn’t for me, pantera for me will never be again unfortunately, even hearing phill now sing some of there old stuff, just doesn’t do it. Pantera died with the abotts! While it was all four of them, they together made pantera! I won’t be spending any money to see the reunion, might spend the time to watch when available on TH-cam! Just my opinion, my thoughts, not even worth it’s weight in shit! I’m fortune enough to have seen both pantera and damageplan, and grateful! I’ll keep playing pantera and damageplan every damn day till I die!
I would agree if they ended up recording new music. Phil has stated numerous times that this is a tribute to people who have never seen this song performed live before. And Zakk and Charlie are like family to Pantera including dime and vinny. On slayers final tour there was also only two original members. People that say that dime WAS Pantera do not understand how influential Phil was at the time and all the millions of frontmen he spawned. Without Phil there would be no Pantera. At the end of the day the singer sells the song. Also it’s Benante not Bennett
If it's going to be a tribute or a celebration, then don't charge for admission...Make it a real tribute/festival/celebration and do it for free and donate to the surviving Abbott family members.
I don't exactly know what it says about me - but the potential band name "Sticky McDicky and the Fuck Bunch" made me laugh out loud for 2 minutes straight
I don't care what anyone thinks of anything. We get to see a bunch of our favorite old school Metal dudes get together and play some of their fallen friends' songs. When did Metal heads become such a pack of whiners? Have we resorted to Raps,' New Country and Pops level of immaturity? Remember we're stoic Metal heads, we don't cry and bitch about every little thing.
I never realized that Pantera had such a dreadful history. I knew about Dimebag's murder but I never realized what transpired before and after the fact.
"People are selfish and want what they want..." That pretty much sums up this whole Pantera mess quite well, doesn't it? People will justify anything out of selfishness, greed or their own self-interest.
I'm a zoomer, so it's a great idea! I love Pantera, there's none of the hurt of the death of Dime as I was still in pampers when it happened (although I wish he was still alive just the same). If the vocalist is still alive and willing, I'd love to see a live show of Pantera songs. There are tons of drummers/guitarists that love Pantera and try to match the level of quality that the brothers had achieved, could always just get those guys involved and run the show. Kind of like the Queen biopic using a Queen tribute band/Marc Martel to produce a similar sound to Freddie Mercury. Phil Anselmo is as much Pantera as the brothers were.
I'd definitely care more about this if both of the Abbott brothers were still around. As it is now though, I just don't care at all. Sure, I'd absolutely love to hear all of the classics live and all, but not like this.
Look mate the brothers weren't angels, they were the ones who initially brought substance abuse to the band, and anyway REX is a hero he deserves that. Likewise, we all had buddies like Anselmo, which we still have to tolerate.
Not arguing that Vinnie and Dimebag were angels, simply stating that Anselmo's issues and controversies were gradually creating a rift between him and the rest of Pantera.
Phil has always been cocky since the beginning. He also had ( in my opinion) the greatest metal voice I’ve ever heard. His (Down) fall was heroine for witch took many years to overcome. I’ve been there and I’m surprised he made it out alive. I can only imagine being on top of the world but at the same time being at the bottomless pits of hell. I wouldn’t have made it. R.I.P Dime and Vinnie.
You make some great points. If this is billed as Pantera or a Pantera reunion, then I’m 100% against it. If it’s billed as “A tribute to Pantera” or “Celebrating the Abbott Brothers,” then I could potentially support it.
@Nicholas Colvard We don’t know that yet. I mean, sure it’s a tribute in the technical sense but the question is how this tour will be promoted, i.e., as Pantera or something else. Most fans agree that calling it Pantera or even a Pantera reunion would be lame.
Tribute tour is just one of those marketing terms disguised to cash in. Definitely change the name to something else. A brand new band would be refreshing, round out the live set with some old Pantera, BLS, Anthrax, Ozzy tunes, that would be the shit! Hell the catalog of just the side projects these guys worked on would bring diversity to the set list. They don't need to live in the shadow of Pantera. Bring on the new material!
you can say as you please but i believe its awesome for all the new gens who never got to see pantera live to get to see a show and open more doors in hearts or the youth who will start more bands in the future do to being inspired by the raw metal no matter if its a pantera cd or a cover band. i myself have listened to pantera since 1991 and seen 13 concerts and when your in the pit you dont see who is on stage. it sucks its not vinnie and dime but something is better than nothing and respect phil for getting on stage knowing 1000s of people will be looking at him knowing what his addiction caused inthe past and also be happy someone can cover dimes riffts
Hi, long time Pantera fan here. Just a quick note to say I was around when they first broke. I was a metalhead already, so they were very much on my radar. Although the heaviness of their instrumentation was a stand out from what was happening at the time, I saw Pantera as a machine with Phil Anselmo at the helm. In my mind, the rest of the band could be replaced...... LOL as long as they kept writing the music.
If they did it like the alternative venom or entombed reunions and toured as Pantera inc or Pantera AD etc, maybe I wouldnt feel so bad about it, it's basically like taking dimebash out on the road. It kind of reminds me of what happened with the doors the family of Morrison were fine with it until they got reports from the shows and got them to change their name. Also Zack Wylde, is his legacy going to be replacing dead guitar players who are better than him?
Especially considering the tragedy of Dimebag. It could be as terrible as those two songs the remaining Beatles “reinterpreted” 14 years after Lennon’s death.
To all of you complaining and whining about the reunion. This is a Pantera tribute, to honor the brothers memory. If the media is labeling it as a Pantera concert don't take it as that. If you listen to Down's last concert, Phil dedicates the song Lifer to both brothers. All of you saying "it's not Pantera", no shit it's not and it's not meant to be that. Be glad that the fans who never got the chance to see one of the best metal bands who ever existed will be able to at least hear their songs played by two of their members. Also, this reunion has Rita's approval which is Dime's longtime girlfriend and I think her opinion means more than some of you out there. Celebrate the brothers memory and legacy instead of bitching and complaining. RIP Dime & Vinny and long live Pantera.
Yeah Rita needs.$$$ now that the deal.with Dean isn't gonna happen. She's just a dependapotomas that's trying to leach off of the memory of her dead bf.
I love Pantera’s music, but I agree. This “reunion” smells like a cash grab, and there is no Pantera without Dime and Vinnie. I’m not against bands continuing on without key members, but at least have the courtesy to change the name like New Order did with Joy Division and Alter Bridge did with Creed. If this is a one off tour to celebrate Pantera’s legacy, I’d be fine with that, but they could at least not use the “Pantera” moniker. Hell, why not just use his band Phillip H. Anselmo and the Illegals? They already played Pantera’s music when they toured with Slayer for their farewell tour. Why not just get Rex Brown to play with the Illegals and tour? To me that would be a much better way to respect Pantera’s legacy.
You have some great points. I think the excitement of this news has grabbed people's attention and when listening to facts as you have given more will stop to think about it. I am unable to decide. I like the idea but also agree with you.
You also don't know what an "Estate" is. It's not the deceased parties. It's the surviving members. In your own statements you said Phil and Dimebag's girlfriend repaired their relationship. So how can you say Dimebag's estate would not agree to this. You did not mention one person from Vinnie's estate who are still living. You're not very bright are you?
Im sorry but phil is just as important as vinnie and dime to pantera. Without Phil, pantera wouldn't have been nearly as big. Remember how they were just another glam band back before phil was their singer?
I think the idea of a tribute tour for Dime and Vinnie is a good idea, but doing it under the Pantera name wasn't the smartest choice in my opinion. As for the Phil money claim, the dude has a net worth of 4 million bucks so I don't think money is much of this mans concern. Imo good idea, poor execution.

That was litterally ny instinct on this whole thing. Once vinnie was out of the picture resting in peace with his brother dime. Phil and zakk wylde wasted no time finally getting this reunion going. Dick move phil. Dick move

They're literally doing what Vinnie Paul asked and said to never be done so he's spinning in his grave dying and Vinnie Paul are probably spinning in their graves right now
Dimebag and Vinnie hated Phil until their last minute of life period
Finally bro your the first fucking guy that gets it 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 NOT A FUCKIN REUNION
It's a crash grab/reunion and then a tribute to some and Vinnie let's keep it real sorry Pantera 40 year old fanboys
@@vampirascoffin870 yea im not for it but pantera has never Been dethroned as hard as gojira and new death metal bands try.
You think you are very purist, I saw the news and I was happy because I saw it as a tribute, not as a meeting and it is obvious that dime and vinnie are unmatched and this tribute will be for them
@@THMS-bb4zx I never said I was pure. Nobody is pure. I just bother to do my research
I've had really mixed feelings about it but ultimately came to the same conclusion you did. Bring it on.
like Vinny said... your selfish.
Its not a Pantera reunion, it's 4 guys playing Pantera songs.
No one is calling it a Pantera reunion except the press. The band has made no announcements so far.
@@rightchordleadership It probably is just the press. Most metal publications are bullshit anyways.
Ive never seen a more obvious cash grab.
Jeez what's next , a Type O Negative Reunion and Peter Steele as a hologram?
That would be better than trying to replace him with someone else.
"Sticky McDicky and the Fuck Bunch" 😂😂
man, embrace it...it's a tribute and zakk and charlie would never try to disrespect the legacy of the lost members, everyone knows this...i'd go see em and feel good about it
One would think Zakk should already know what Dime and Vinnie thought about this idea.
They're doing this now when vinnie can't do anything to stop it, that's "the level of respect" here.

Never got to see them before and there’s no chance in hell I’m going to miss this opportunity!

Honestly I don't, but I'll check it out! Always in the mood for some gnarly punk tunes.
Not pantera

Nail on the head. Could not POSSIBLY agree more. Massive cashgrab, plain as can be. The Abbott brothers must be turning in their graves.
Correction: Dimebag Darrell passed away in 2004, not 2003.

A vulgar display of power.....and money
Halftera is what we’ll be seeing in 2023
Finally, someone is seeing the light on this!
Speak for yourself
He could at least call it "Pantera A.D." like Entombed/Entombed A.D.
If it doesn’t have Dimebag or Vinnie Paul, it’s a fucking tribute band
I wish we could move on from these bands whose most important members are deceased. Let them rest in peace.
@@reynutz yeah, let’s see you post a video of your rendition of Domination by Pantera . Maybe then your opinion will carry an ounce of credibility.
@@reynutz it's still a little kid cash grab tribute.
I can’t wait. Loved every member of Pantera, but they sucked pre Phil. Even CFH was semi-weak.
Once you admit that you can let go and enjoy the show.
CFH was one of their best albums hands down. It had more of the thrash riffs as opposed to slow groovy riffs far better than reinventing and trendkill. First 3 were the best.
It's a money grab and it won't get a Dime from me..... no pun intended.
From someone who was there thanks for illuminating this miserable cash grab
If it's going to be a tribute or a celebration, then don't charge for admission...Make it a real tribute/festival/celebration and do it for free and donate to the surviving Abbott family members.
I saw them twice back in the day and im gonna see them with this line up. It is a good idea and im glad to see it happen.
Implying metal was ever mature lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficial lmfao so true.
Yeah this so-called reunion is a hard no for me
I never realized that Pantera had such a dreadful history. I knew about Dimebag's murder but I never realized what transpired before and after the fact.
No Dime, no Pantera. I'm sure others have said it too. Just call it something else.
Phil an Rex said it was a tribute but all the media said Pantera tour loll
A sell out is when you go out and play your own songs…
By profiting off your dead band mates and haven’t been in the band for 20 years
I just saw BLS play last night (7/16) and Zack didn’t mention anything about the reunion. I’m not calling you a liar or anything but I found that odd.
For some reason none of them have spoken about it publicly yet. Its possible they're under strict orders not to say anything until a certain point.
Sure, I'd absolutely love to hear all of the classics live and all, but not like this.
now that the tour has started, what do you think?
I stand by everything I said.
The two guys who QUIT the band, now claiming the band? Dick move.
@@Bitt3n you don’t get it
The sad thing is that somewhere out there is a Pantera tribute band who sound incredible and will continue to be obscure.
Lmao I used to hate cover/tribute bands but honestly some of 'em are rad. Love the ones that put their own spin on the material like Mac Sabbath.
🤣 said nobody
@@randymiles904 said an OG metalhead. Sit down goombah.
Dime cannot be replaced. At all.
Dime and Zakk were really close friends.
Especially considering the tragedy of Dimebag. It could be as terrible as those two songs the remaining Beatles “reinterpreted” 14 years after Lennon’s death.
Yea. Right. With Zakk 😂
It's all about money. Too bad so many metal fans are so incredibly impressionable and easy to buy...
This “tour” should’ve happened 6 years ago with Vinnie and Phil making amends. And at lease it would be 3/4ths of Pantera.
There's also a unreleased damageplan that has been nearly complete only missing the vocals
But it’s not his band and Vinnie wanted to do nothing with Phil after his brother got killed. Why do you think he was banned from Dimebag’s funeral?
I think the idea of a tribute tour for Dime and Vinnie is a good idea, but doing it under the Pantera name wasn't the smartest choice in my opinion. As for the Phil money claim, the dude has a net worth of 4 million bucks so I don't think money is much of this mans concern. Imo good idea, poor execution.
