In this video I review and compare the BSP-D8 Mobile Bluetooth Gamepad with its predecessors and show what an amazing device it is for the price by testing it with my PowKiddy X18S clamshell device.
I cover functionality, the dpad, buttons and stick quality, and I test everything in Gamepad Tester.
I played a bad run on OutRun 2006 Coast2Coast for PSP before realizing PSP doesn’t use analog triggers. Boy I feel dumb, but I do confirm they work on Gamepad Tester. I also test the dpad in StreetFighter II. We find out if it’s Hadukenable and Shoryukenable!
Feel free to leave any questions, requests or
criticism in the comments. I look forward what I have planned for this channel and your advice helps me out a lot.
Better filming equipment and proper editing to come soon! Thanks for watching!

I purchased one for all round use and the fact that it holds a tablet is a great bonus.
Yeah, it's great! Has yours arrived yet? Let me know how it works out for you if you get a chance. I appreciate you checking out the video!
A tremendous way to get around the "okay" ergo of the X18s :D
It really is a great solution! I realize I came across a bit harsh on the the x18s. You’re right. The ergos are okay, especially being that it’s mainly what’s expected of a clamshell device. The subpar controls are the main issue with it even after the recommended mods. Thanks for the comment!
I loved the review! No need to apologize for being a long video. Thanks for this. Very helpful. 🍻
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m really glad I could help! Cheers 🍻
Indeed. Only a long review can do a product justice.
Ótima análise, obrigado do Brasil, também estou esperando meu D8 😁💯
Obrigado de Los Angeles. Aproveite seu D8. Espero que chegue em breve! 🍻 (I hope that translated correctly 👀)
Good presentation, interesting content,no need to be so stressed, relax man, breathe, it'll help the presentation... keep at it!
Lol. It’s true. I can hear the stress in my voice. I’ve never been comfortable talking in front of an audience so it’s gonna take some getting used to. I’m sure I’ll get comfortable with it soon. Thanks a lot for the encouraging comment. I appreciate it!
Nice to see some controller reviews! Maybe add some links to the manufacturer or store?
Dang, I completely forgot to drop the link. My bad. I’ll do that now. Thanks for the comment and for the reminder! ❤️
thanks for circular test
Nice review! I was always looking for a review about the different BSP controllers and couldn't find one. Missing the D3 to compare, hope you can do an updated version in the future with the D3 included. The review looks great & I'm rooting for you.
That’s a great idea for a video. I went ahead and placed an order for the BSP-D3 just now. I got a great deal from AliExpress’ Black Friday sale. I’ll definitely do a video covering all of the BSP telescopic gamepads in the near future. Thanks for the comment!
I can tell thats really comfortable to hold
Yeah. Those rounded edges really do make a difference.
This one's pretty tempting. There's a new Starfield-inspired colour scheme for it too.
I saw that. It's even tempting for me to get that Starfield version even though it's about $5 more. Good excuse to use my OG D8 for a giveaway. Hmm..
Great video bro, although you tested the analogue triggers on a PSP game and that had digital triggers.
Damn I feel dumb. Lol. That explains why I did so bad. I usually make that run with no problem. I’m just now realizing PSP doesn’t use analog triggers. I’ll have to test GameCube I guess but this chip won’t run half of it. Any suggestions?
@@OGTechNick Any of the burnout or need for speed games on gamecube would test them out great :)
We can all agree even if just a bit that the D7 has some nice buttons
The best! After more testing back and forth… Oh yeah, I love the big punchy D7 buttons the most.
Another commenter inspired me to do a BSP review so I just ordered the BSP-D3 and when it arrives I’ll do a video comparing all the buttons and sticks of each model
What i wish is the small Triggers behind the handler like the D3
I agree. They flare out too much. *Edit: Oh I think you’re referring to the programmable back buttons. I wish they were included too
Do you recommend buying powkiddy x18s black model that has improved joysticks and buttons? Is it good for cloud gaming?
I can’t personally recommend it because I haven’t used the newer black model but there are some pretty harsh reviews on it. Mainly that it is a fingerprint magnet. If that’s not a big deal to you it might be worth it.
I have yet to try cloud gaming on mine but I think it should work just fine. It is one of the cheapest T618 handhelds available so I understand the draw.
I suggest you watch this review by Russ from Retro Game Corps and maybe a few other reviews before you spend the money.

Have you managed to get vibration working for games? It doesnt seem to work on my android. Can you test?
Sure I’ll try to test soon. I’ve been pretty busy. Which input modes have you tested?
Hi, Nice video you did a great job in this review, can you try a 11 inch tablet like the tab s7 or something that 254 mm?, because I have tab s9 and I want to use this controller with it I hope it will fit.
Thank you. I really appreciate the kind words. When I get back home tonight I’ll take measurements of its max width and depth and I’ll let you know. I think it’ll work just fine but I’ll confirm it with you just to be sure.
I just read the specs on the listing and it says it supports up to 252mm. There’s a chance it could work with some modification because the rubber padding is quite thick. So close... I’ll let you know if I can squeeze a few extra millimeters out of it.
Do you know what the minimum width is for what it’s holding? I’m looking for something that can hold my tablet vertically.
The minimum width is 5” (around 13cm)
I think it’ll be great for using a tablet vertically 👍
@@OGTechNickThanks. Unfortunately, my tablet is a bit under that so not ideal.
@@PanRhei oh I’m sorry about that. If I had some 3D printing experience I would’ve already made some different sized end pieces to add to devices that are too small for the telescopic controllers. That’s something I want to try.
@@PanRhei this one right here would likely work. I don’t think it has the greatest sticks/buttons but it can fit a small device.

@@OGTechNick I appreciate you looking it up, thanks. Strange face button arrangement, but
I'll keep it in mind. I know Ipega has a few other similar designs.
How is the latency comparing to the built in controller?
Some people may be more sensitive to latency than I am, but it’s not noticeable to me with this setup. There are a few quick reflex games, like WarioWare for GBA, that I used to play often. It requires precise timing for some of the mini games and latency was not an issue at all.
This is good. X18s is a good machine but I hate it's control. Too mushy. Thanks for the info.
Ya, I agree with you about the X18S. No prob. Thanks for watching!
That looks like some cheap portable educational game console from like 1999
Does it? Which one?
My d3 is still good 😂❤
The D3 is awesome ❤️
Can you please buy a magnet or something to check the joystick? and pin the comment for everyone to see? That would be amazing. New sub
Definitely will do. Thanks! Nice username btw *Edit: regarding the comment on the other video, I’ll actually open this one up and test it instead of waiting for another one to arrive so the results won’t take so long. I’ll order another and still do a giveaway.
@@OGTechNickthanks man 👍
@@OG_Crafterit’s been confirmed on Reddit that both the sticks and the triggers are legitimate hall sensors. 👍
@@OGTechNick Wow, that's amazing. So gigantic companies with billions of dollars can't put hall sensors in their 70$ controller but this company can 💀
@@OGTechNick thanks again btw.
wish this one had type C connecting so you dont have to use bt, or at least a jack for earphones.... if it had type c i could use bt of earbuds
Does your tablet not allow for 2 Bluetooth devices to function at the same time? Or are concerned about input lag when gaming on a Bluetooth device while also using Bluetooth audio? I’m going to try testing the D8 and wireless earbuds together to see how well it works.
@@OGTechNick the imput lag, would really appreciate you testing that, mine havent arrived yet :)
Меня не так волнуют кнопки, как разряд и потеря сигнала вайфай. Ради компактности готов потерпеть с такими кнопками, но как убрать програмные косяки
I think you must be talking about the X18S, not the BSP-D8. I agree, the Wi-Fi is very weak. I’ve noticed the battery doesn’t drain in sleep mode if you turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi before putting to sleep. I tried with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with only Bluetooth and also with only Wi-Fi in sleep mode and they all will drain the battery, but if they’re tuned off, or in airplane mode but also having Bluetooth off, the battery will retain a charge while in sleep mode.
