BSP-D9 Review with Nintendo Switch Gameplay - Video 2

  • This BSP-D9, PlayStation Portal inspired telescopic controller, is great. I know it's a subjective thing in regards to aesthetics, but you can't deny the ergonomics. The sticks are fantastic hall sensor thumbsticks with little to no deadzone. The dpad and buttons use a standard silicone membrane. Face buttons feel great. Dpad works well enough, but I wish BSP would go with a different membrane because it feels similar to their other dpads, and there are slight issues with false inputs, but not to the point of inhibiting my gameplay.
    This device extends 130mm-280mm.
    You can use it with a tablet, but the smaller rubber grip section doesn't leave much to hold onto. For instance, when I press the power or volume buttons on my Switch, the tablet tends to slide down if I give too much force. However, when playing any game, it feels very secure and incredibly comfortable.
    BSP continues to outdo themselves!
    BSP-D9: Highly recommended telescopic Bluetooth controller for Switch, Android, iOS, PS, and is designed to be very similar to the PlayStation Portal, allowing for use with large tablets.
    You can order a BSP-D9 here:

    The only D9 gamepad review that matters. No one else really reviews D pads which is very important for gamers that play fighting games and old school games with the D pad.

    Thank you, this is a really interesting device. I have a Dobe controller, which I have some problems with - terrible Dpad, bad ergonomics for twin stick and FPS games, my hands and especially pinky fingers get tired fast after playing while lying in bed. I might actually get this controller, as I find the original Dualsense to be highly comfortable (it's my go-to PC cotroller).

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's one of my biggest issues with controllers. My pinky fingers are often left hanging. I know what you mean. I think you'll like this one.

    • @albertzinger7132
      @albertzinger7132 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @OGTechNick Yeah, and also playing in bed on Dobe controller has an effect of the majority of the Switch's weight to go to the bottom of my left palm, almost to the point of developing calluses.

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This one has an added benefit that I kind of overlooked and saw as a slight flaw in the initial impressions video, being that the sides that hold the Switch are so small, but it turns out that it works great for playing in bed. You can slide the switch up or down to adjust its position. My favorite way to play is in bed with a small pillow under it and the Switch slid up a little higher on the device.

    Thank u for the video. Very informative. Not much out there for this device. I have two questions for you. 1- does it support ps remote play? I am planning to use either gamesir G8 or this. I usually play regular games ex)Elden ring,witcher3 borderlands3 just casual non competitive single player games. 2-as someone having both devices, which one would you recommend without putting the price and stretch length(gonna mode G8if chosen)as a factor? Thank you in advance for taking your precious time to answer me. Subscribed regardless 😂

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the sub! Yes, the D9 supports remote play. Throw a tablet or phone in it and you basically have a PlayStation Portal. I think they’re both great. The D9 is amazing for the price. The plastic feels just as premium as the G8. The ergonomics are different, but both are very good. It kinda depends if you prefer offset sticks or if you like having your dpad up top. Also, the D9 has a rubber membrane dpad, and the G8 uses microswitches, so if you have a preference that could be something to consider. Both dpads are good, they’re just very different, and in different locations. If price and stretch length aren’t to be considered I’d probably recommend the G8 because it’s wired and has a 3.5mm headphone jack. That being said, I don’t notice any latency with the D9. There might be some if you’re using it along with Bluetooth earbuds though. I actually prefer a Bluetooth telescopic controller over a wired one because I switch between iPhone (lightning) and Android (usb-c)
      Hope this helps. Let me know what you decide!

    thanks for testing the dpad in street fighter i really appreciate that 😊. Btw for future videos, it would be fine if you tested controllers in the training mode instead of the game, that way you can just focus on pulling off the moves and not worry about the cpu interrupting. Also would be cool to pick a character that has some more complicated special moves like a half circle input (ryu's donkey kick in third strike for example) or instead a grab (alex,zangief,etc). For some variety 👍

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No problem. I appreciate the suggestions. I will do that next time. I’m going to have to put in some practice because I’m so vanilla with street fighter I never learn most of the other characters moves. I believe the collection has all the moves listed in options…or I could just look online. These days I usually just play for 15 mins here or there but I’m probably missing out on good fun by not giving the other characters a chance. Keen an eye out for some donkey kicks. Lol. I’ll start messing with other characters too.

      I did! Specifically, Campion Edition, and although both dpads work pretty well, I like the D9 better. It feels better on the thumb, and I got used to the placement, which is not where my dpads usually are on a controller, but I like it a lot. I'm not the best at the game, but I'm okay. I can beat it without requiring a continue, but a seasoned competitive player will kick my butt. I do recommend the D9 over the D8 at this point. 👌

    @tekkennewbie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just a question. I know it is subjective but since you've tried both D8 and D9, which one would you prefer for longer periods of gaming? Let's say an hour or two. Like which one is more comfortable when it comes to ergonomics?

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely the D9. It's much more comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions. Most JoyCon alternatives don't leave enough room for my pinky fingers. The D9 is now my favorite way to play portably. I like it better than the Mobapad M6 HD. If the D9 had HD rumble and digital triggers, it would be near perfect for the Switch. That being said, the standard rumble feels very nice, unlike so many other options. It's also great for emulation on a phone or a tablet with these analog triggers.

    Are the analog sticks alot better than the d8? I feel like the d8s angle switch alot they aren't smooth enough. Are the d9s alot smoother like p5 pad?

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They actually score slightly lower on Gamepad Tester in regards to average circularity error but they’re still great sticks. Probably better than the Dual Sense. The D8 has a 0.7% circularity error and the D9 has a 1.9% circularity error, which is still great. Even though they don’t rank as good as the D8 in that regard, they’re better feeling and the difference in circularity is indistinguishable without the tool. They are hall sensor sticks and are full size so they definitely feel nicer than D8. Super smooth, with no cardinal direction locking at all.

      So, holding R2 first then long pressing Home simultaneously doesn't work? Could be a glitch, if so. Have you checked to see if you have more than 10 different controllers paired with the Switch currently. When you do it'll often make it difficult to pair a new device. If you're not sure try checking the bottom of the "controllers and sensors" list and clearing all the other controllers you have paired. I'm curious to see if it will work after you do this.

    • @dreadthelight3936
      @dreadthelight3936 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OGTechNick no it's not that. the d9 will not go into switch pairing mode by holding the home button regardless of the switch. it does sync when i plug a cable but the d9 will not go into pairing mode for the switch. all other pairing modes work. i tried to update the firmware with the gamepad space app and still no luck. also my R2 only fully registers when i press it hard. I'm not sure if this is why. i tried increasing the dead zone with the app too. it helps the button fully register but the d9 still won't go into pairing mode with the switch. i like it and i have i work around but I'm still thinking of just getting another one for the full functionality. 😕

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s exactly as thick as a Nintendo Switch. I ended up removing the rubber strips on the sides to give it a little more support because there’s not much room for it to stay inside with them on. It’ll be fine for most tablets and phones. They also include some extra rubber adhesive pads to fill the space if you have a thinner device.

      I’ve never returned anything from AliExpress. It’s not necessarily that I don’t trust the sellers but I don’t really trust that it’ll make it to them safely, and I’m worried I’d be out my money and the product if it didn’t. I usually try to make an agreement with the seller for a coupon on the next purchase or I’ve had a few who have just sent me replacements for things without even asking for the return. I abstain from negative reviews until it’s all said and done with the seller. If they do help, I usually give an honest but positive review, but I don’t go into detail about the ordeal. I just focus on the product and customer service. They just ask that I wait for the replacement before posting my “positive review” and I can understand them wanting that.
      This obviously can’t be said for all sellers, but I try to feel them out with simple questions and pick the ones who are friendly and communicative. Sometimes I even go with sellers that have lower ratings because I’ll check and see a ridiculous review from somebody that doesn’t know what they’re doing and it makes me feel bad for the seller. They definitely struggle there too and deception is rampant, but I’ve realized there are many honest and kind sellers who are just trying to get by. As far as all of my BSP controllers go, I’ve never really found a very friendly seller though. Not sure why. Their boxes always arrive crushed but I haven’t received the wrong item or anything broken from them yet. I hope you get your Starfield version but I’d be hesitant to return the one you have.

      That’s a tough call. It kinda depends on a few things. Budget is a big one. G8 is twice the price. D9 is wireless. G8 is wired. Both are amazing controllers with great sticks. The ergonomics are good on both and so is the quality of plastic. The D9 extends further but the G8 can be modded to do so as well. I personally use the D9 more because it’s wireless, and I switch between Android, iPhone, and Nintendo Switch with it. Sorry to not give a definitive answer, but I hope this helps.

      @OGTechNick  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The D9 plastic is significantly better than all of BSP's previous controllers, but I guess it's probably not as premium as the G8. The part where it stretches might be what people are referring to because the handles feel really solid, and I've held a lot of controllers on both ends of the spectrum. If budget isn't an option and you don't have a need for Bluetooth, I would recommend the G8. It's a much bigger company and I'm sure there's better quality control. Also, I forgot to mention that I'm not a fan on L & R on the D9. They are a bit wobbly and use a very loud clicky switch. Take price out of the equation, and the G8 wins.
