Great video as always! As an Air Guardsman after my Active Duty time, I can truly say that joining the Air Guard was the best decision I could have made, but I agree with you Sir, trust your instincts.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I served 9 years in The Army National Guard, from 1996 to 2005. Since then, I worked in the private sector and obtained a degree, a BS in Management. I recently took a job with the VA and working with other veterans lot a spark inside of me. I went to The Army National Guard first, and they are saying I would have to redo basic training, but keep my pay grade, E-5. The Air Force Reserve would not make me go to basic training and I would keep my E-5. With my degree, I would prefer to become an officer. I will continue to work with my recruiter to see what is the best fit for me.
Hi Dominic. Explore your options and select the best one for you. The Air Force Reserve is a great option. All of your previous time will count towards the reserve time.
I totally agree there are pros and cons. I’m in the Guard and love it. Another pro is the TSP ( Thrift saving Plan) if you put in money the Air Force will match you up to so much. And TriCare Reserve Select is an amazing benefit especially with the rising cost of health care. Another pro is if your in curtain jobs you can see alot of the world. My unit gets deployed pretty regularly we are on a 4 year rotation. The con to that is being away from your family during training and deployment. But I still love the Guard and it’s a blessing to have those benefits for my family.
Timothy Julien they are basically the same the only big difference is that the guard can be mobilized by the President and the Governor. Where the Reserves only get mobilized by the President.
@@billyburnam4439 "The con to that is being away from your family during training and deployment" THough I'm sure that you Air Force folks get a maximum of six months deployment. We fools In the Army get a minimum of nine month deployment unless we are special forces who get six months but deploy even more. Then there's the fact that Army people have to wear all that bullshit infantry gear and keep account of it and work their asses off in the worlds hottest weather.
@@julinielawrence1903 we'll see if they tell you, but as a side note if you mean ANG as in Air National Guard, then "MOS" would be known as ASFC for "Air Force Specialty Code"
Thanks so much for posting videos! I am subscribed and will keep watching as I am getting myself together! I want to take the asvab by January that will be my 33rd 🎂 Birthday! I guess it will be a new year and a new life! I am an army brat and just miss a lot about the army life! My husband and father have been retired for 5 years now! Life has been a bit different but I am willing to do this for myself and my family! I have goals and a vision for my life and the time is now!!❤️
Ashley Moore I'll be 33 in January too! Looking to join the reserves! As my lifestyle doesn't allow for 4 years at the moment.. Hoping that by the time I'm 35 I can begin the process of seeking active duty. I don't have any family members with military experience, but I myself feel a real calling for a service before self leadership lifestyle. ❤️ Good Luck on your ASVAB
Hi Ashley are you still planning on joining the Air Force? I'm 38 years old and I have decided to make the commitment and join. I have two children 15 and 12 so it's going to be hard to leave for 4 months but the long term benefits are great and will be worth it. Good luck will what you decide. I love your soaps by the way, do you have an Etsy page?
@@cassandrasarabia6747 are u part of any Facebook pages for air force bmt shippers? There is great info there as well. I am 31 and going thru the process for the guard. I've heard there are lots of mommas in their 30s going.
Yes I am part of the facebook shippers page. I have met a few people that will be in my unit to ship. Thank you for the suggestions. Good luck with the guard! Does the guard go to BMT as well?
@@cassandrasarabia6747 awesome itl be so nice going in already kinda knowing ppl. Yes guard does bmt and tech school too. So excited!! Good luck with everything
The Major was spot on. I'm 32 going Reserve because I do not want to PCS alot during my career. The Reserve offers opportunities to be full-time. I'm going to be an ART because my unit has funding for maintenance/mechanic positions as crew chiefs on aircraft. I really like my unit and see the chance to serve, get FAA certifications and be AF Civil Service as an incredible opportunity. The Major's advice helped me decide on Reg AF or Reserve far better than going to a recruiter without information I needed to be specific. I would've loved to have served under the Major's leadership. Go Air Force!
Thank you for this information, I was Security Forces for 6 years active duty and I’ve been out for 6 years. I’m looking to go AF Reserve and change my AFSC. Wish me luck.
Thank you for your videos. I am 37 and looking into joining the Air Force and I've been trying to figure out if I should try Active Duty or Reserves. I'd like Active Duty, but still looking into options. I'm hoping to talk w it th a recruiter in the next month. I need to work on my fitness before joining so I doubt I'll be able to join before 39, but I love all the information you provide. Thanks again!
Dena Nebergall I’m in the Guard and I went in at 35 and I love it. As far as the fitness depending on the needs of the Air Force as for active duty maybe an issue but you maybe able to get a waver for the reserve or Guard.
I was an AH-64D Apache gunship crewchief in the Army (enlisted), deployed for too many years in the sandbox, got out, and finished my engineering degree. I always wanted to be a pilot, and am exploring the possibility of getting an AFRC commission. I am a NASA engineer, with a family. From what I gather in the AFRC Pilot Handbook, it seems a big ask to take military leave from my federal job for 2+ years to go through OCS & UFT, just to be a traditional reservist. I know there's a huge advantage in being a federal employee with respect to joining the reserves, but the agency could balk at that extended absence, despite the letter of the law. The top-level recruiter said that there's a significant pilot shortage, and aside from pilots, legal, medical, and chaplaincy positions, the Reserve commands generally turn down off-the-street candidates, reserving them for officers/enlisted already in uniform. I'd like to fly Pavehawks out of Patrick AFB, since it's along my morning commute, I'm already familiar with the rotary-wing community, and they often support launches at Kennedy & Capeside. Please tell me what you can about the length of the pilot pipeline, and alternatively the typical duration of non-pilot officer training. Your advice will help me decide whether I can parallel military retirement alongside that with NASA. Thanks for your service!
Thank you for your service as well. You've accomplished some great things already, very impressive. Definitely speak with a reserve officer recruiter first and foremost. They will have the schedules down for Officer Training School and more info on available pilot slots. Then consider the "letter of the law" which is the USERRA program. That will have details on how that works. There is nothing wrong with exploring the possibilities first privately and then notifying your current civilian job if needed. Your background sounds like you'd bring a lot to the reserves. Also consider age as a factor for being selected for a pilot slot. I have seen non-prior selectees get OTS and some of the jobs you mentioned above.
Have done 5+ years in the Army National Guard and about to Transition over to the Air Force Reserves. Just needed a better quality of life, keep the same Benefits, and looking at this as a reset button for my Military career. Hoping for another good a few years!
Thank you for the video. How exactly does the tuition assistance work? I have heard so many different things. Some have said you need one full year of service in the reserves before becoming eligible. Others have said you are eligible right away.
yes, transfer units or just let your unit know location and return for drill, I live in Minnesota and drill in Missouri because I want to stay in my company.
The biggest PRO about being a reservist is not having to worry about PCS'g. You can move as many and however many times you want, to wherever. It's just that they will either pay for a ticket or mileage for you to get to your unit for drill. Also lodging. You'll also have to update the state for tax purposes in your MyPay so the taxes taken can reflect the same state you are a resident in. Not the state you report to for drill.
Same here but I'm coming from US Navy Active Duty for 6 years and thinking of transferring to US Air Force Reserves at Nellis Air Force Base.. Sir, how often can u get active duty orders?
@@fajardo-kirkfamily169 All depends on your AFSC (job code) and the needs of the Reserve (at that time). Feast or famine is the term we use when it comes to additional orders.
Be a doctor. Your next option is a NP. You are too smart to be just a nurse if u have a bachlors. Doctors with private practice make upwards of $350-$800,000 a year. Nurse practitioners are lucky to make 150 a year. The amount of knowledge a nurse needs to know compared to a nurse practitioner is the same Difference between a nurse practitioner and a doctor. Don’t settle for the bottom reach reach high
Not sure if you've yet decided. The comments left are reasonable. However, also consider talking to a recruiter and be sure to ask about tuition assistance. It seems the military will fully pay your tuition costs. Anything can with either choice you make. For example, should you be forced to stop RN school for any reason i.e. pregnancy, sick parent etc. An added stress would be having to pay back school costs. But, by first joining the military multiple benefits benefits are accessible. Free training for your MOS, G.I. Bill, ongoing pay check, tuition for your spouse, or kids, tax free purchases and much more. Examine fully your interest, you may have many passions. The reservers allow you to have the best of many world's, work in the military and civilian worlds and the option for so much. Best wishes. Thanks in advance for your service.🇺🇸🙏🏽
Enlisted to officer on the reserve side is possible. If you find a reserve job in another location, you can commute to do your reserve duty or you can move there. If the job is part-time, you'll have to move yourself there. If it's full time, the Air Force may pay to move you there but that will depend. The Air Force would provide you guidance on how to make that possible.
YOUR Military Money I’m trying to help my daughter make a decision she wants to be a Physician’s Assistant ( PA ) should she go full time or reserve. I think she should go active because she’ll get all the benefits but she does know a Marine that’s reservist and goes to College full time dorming in..... thank you for your service...👍🏻❤️🇺🇸
Great video. I’m 37 with no prior service. I have a full-time career and am seriously considering the Air Force Reserves. I have my Bachelors degree and want to join as an officer. I know you have to apply and complete OTS first, but in my scenario, would I be able to join the reserves part-time, but first go to OTS, or do you have to come in as enlisted and complete Basic Training beforehand? I have a stable family and income during my “training” would be crucial, so that’s another aspect I’m trying to figure out. Not too concerned about receiving military benefits since I have that covered on the civilian side. Mainly looking to do what I can to serve. Just wish I had done it sooner than later.
You do not have to come in first as enlisted. Speak with a Reserve recruiter about coming in as an officer as it does happen. They will explain the process. If you get selected, you'll go to OTS and then return to your home station. Eventually you most likely will go to your technical training. The only challenge I may see is your age so definitely bring that up to save you time. I've seen the cut off age as 35 and 39 so that's where I'm not completely clear as to which one is accurate.
Hey I want to join the Air Force but i also want be come a cop in my city and do real estate investing. My biggest thing is I want to be able to run my business. Would you recommend Air Force reserve and what route should I take considering Taking.
With all of the things you want to do, part-time is a good option (Reserve or Guard). Keep in mind that once you're part-time, it's very tough to go active duty from there (very tough but not impossible). Take the ASVAB and that will let you know what jobs you will qualify for. Ask about the current needs of the Air Force as well. Good luck!
First of all, thank you for your service! I would like to go into law enforcement as a career, but I also have a strong interest in forensic psychology. I plan on applying to graduate programs for forensic psychology and doing reserves hopefully as an mp while taking classes. How realistic of a goal would you say this is in terms of handling schooling and military service?
You can definitely do it. I was active duty and finished school. You'll be a full time student and part-time military member so that is definitely doable.
I’m 27 years old, with about 2 years worth of credits from school. I’m hoping to join the reserves as an E3. My main goal is to continue school and eventually become an officer. I was advised to avoid the enlisted side until I finish school and then just plan for OCS right off the bat. You mentioned going from reserves to active duty is a hard transition. Would it be possible to go to OCS after a year or two in the reserves. Or would it even be worth it be an officer in the reserves. I want to be emerged in the military lifestyle, while still having the chance to finish school, and without starting at the bottom on the enlisted side (my age plays a factor as well) please advise or any encouragement you would suggest I’m happy to hear. Thanks!
It will depend on what you want to pursue-- active duty or reserve. If you want to do part-time then you can enlist and eventually finish school and then your commission. If you want to go active duty- you enlist now and then pursue your commission through OTS when you finish your degree. It is difficult to go from reserve to active duty. I enlisted active duty and then finished my degree. I was not selected for OTS so I separated from active duty and went through ROTC while I worked on my master's degree. Don't worry about your age as there are many who join in their 30s. The bigger question that you'll want to decide is active duty or reserve. From there you'll have to decide enlisted or officer. Explore your options and then do what's best for you. Standing by to assist.
Can you explain a little more in detail about the differences in the Educational differences? You had mentioned that Reserves would need to build up to the 4,500 per semester. How much do you get after Tech School to start with? Thank you for all your videos, they have been very helpful.
You're entitled up to $4,500 per year immediately. This is from the AFR website: www.afreserve.com/benefits I believe the Post 9-11 GI Bill is different as you'll need to have some active duty time to receive the full benefits.
I was considering this because I don’t really see a fit as a programmer in the force, I mean more like a developer than IT/Tech... but this would be a way for me to still do something. I would be looking at becoming an officer if I did it. Just not sure how it may affect things career wise.
This question/scenario may have already been asked and answered, but I did not see it. Please provide any insight as I am weighing my options. I am 27 years old, I have a wife, a newborn daughter and a house. I have always wanted to join the Air Force but never had the courage to join. Looking back now, I regret that decision. I have a full time career that I do not particularly enjoy, but it pays all bills and I am grateful for that. My question is: would the reserves be worth joining at this stage in life? Do any of you have experience with telling your employer you will be joining the reserves? My wife has given her full support for me joining but I am attempting to do all research before starting the process of joining. With my income today and the mortgage/car payments/etc, we literally cannot afford for me to join as active duty until we pay some more debt off. Thanks for the info in your video!
Would it be difficult to get the 6 months active duty to qualify for the home loan? Also would the training for a cyber or technical job be enough to get into the field as a civilian?
Thank you for the informative video! I have a bachelor's degree but was informed by my local recruiter that there is no student loan assistance program for the Air Force Reserve . Is this correct?
To join reserve when I already have a full time job... would my employer be able to fire me over going to basic training? It's the one thing that's kept me from joining.
Contact your human resource office at work and let them know your plans in writing. If they give you a hard-time let them know you're going to use the USERRA return rights program. Read up on first before bringing it up. See link: www.dol.gov/vets/programs/userra/
Im going to the Air Force as an E-3, AGR so I can get more working experience and have enough cushion money before going as a traditional reservist until i land an airline job with the airlines.
I’m finishing up my time in IRR and am stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to decide whether to stay in the reserves or separate. I’d cross train into loadmaster career field if I decide to stay but I just don’t know if I want to be in the military any longer from a commitment standpoint. My first 6 years were as a firefighter. Before I decide, can I ask your opinion? I’ve written the pros and cons and the cons outweigh the pros. For the things I want to accomplish (entertainment, entrepreneurship, fashion) the military isn’t needed in my opinion.
It's good that you've done the pros and cons specifically to your situation. You don't have to make a decision right now if you're unsure. You can revisit in 5 years if you wanted to but you'd have to go back to MEPS after one year of being out of the uniform. Remember that reserve/guard is part time so you can still do what you want the rest of your time. If you stay out and miss it down the road, you can join as long as you can complete 20 good years by age 60. One way to see it is not rejoin now and if you change your mind later, revisit. The only thing is you'd be surprised how many times I've heard people say, "If I would have just continued, I'd be retired by now." Trust your instinct.
Thank you so much for sharing your information. I'm was currently attending college which didn't go so well since my Father was critically ill. Everything is finally going back to normal and I'm 20 years old planning on joining the Air Force Reserve. Starting to crack open the ASVAB AFQT for Dummies to get a high score so I'll be able to select the Job that I want.
The reserve is a good option but remember that it will only be part-time. You could also explore an active duty tour of 4 years but that will take you away from your family.
I have a good job now but I still want to service as part time in the Air Force. Do you know if during the training at Air Force, the company I am working for now will keep my job until I finish and do you know how much percent they pay while you are on training? Thank you for the infos
This link explains USERRA which is a program you can apply for to keep your civilian job while you're activated in the guard or reserve: www.esgr.mil/USERRA/What-is-USERRA I do not believe your civilian job will pay you while you're away but your job or a similar job will be held for you.
I was always impressed by how they kick ass on active personal,......the older experianced fellas,..in exercises,..there just better at it. And when they pass that knowledge on its very...............................cool!
I have been debating on wether or not to join the reserves and which branch to join. I'm currently a Juvenile Probation Officer and I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. I also wish to go back to school to get my Masters in educational leadership, law, or non profit management. My question is will joining the reserves have any benefits toward me achieving my goals and how do you narrow which branch to join? Also, do reservists travel because I would also like to travel. Thanks :)
Hi Tiffani. If you want to serve part-time in the military, the reserve can be a good option. You'll get $4,500 per year for school and accomplish your master's degree. Depending on your job and branch, there can be travel options. The question is which branch of service is best for you? Speak with all of them and consider who will get you the job that you want. Some may offer a guaranteed job and some will require you to join "open general". Last, research which branch interests you the most.
@@jazzblackvalcin3097 Up to your bachelor's degree and then you can pursue your master's if you'd like. You get $4,500 each year. Once you complete your master's, then it stops but you can use your Post 9-11 GI Bill if you want.
Hey I wondering if being in the reserves vs air guard which increases the chances of deployment and how long that period is. Getting deployed is a concern of my parents.
Thanks for the info. It's very helpful. How hard would it be to switch to active duty if I were an officer in the AFR and my reason of switching would be because I've finished law school and now want to be an active duty JAG?
I have a question im not sure if you’d see this but i am 25 no kids live back at moms house was living with a girlfriend no longer together been with her for 7years been at the same job since highschool. Graduated from highschool in 2015 no college. Would you recommend active duty or reserves for me? Id want to live on my own again not under mommy’s roof yet im not sure if im too old for active duty
Thank you very much for this information, sir. If I understood correctly, OTS and tech school do not account for active duty days accrued for earning a VA loan? Would drill weekends/TDYs/STPs count? Thank you in advance!
Drill weekends do not count, some/most TDYs do as long as they're long enough to qualify. If not, the waiting time frame is 6 years in the Air Force Reserve.
Hello, recent college graduate I have started a career in my degree field... however looking into going into reserves would this be possible? How much time upfront does this take ?
Yes it's possible. Contact a recruiter and explore your options. Congrats on completing your degree. The upfront time will be about 8 weeks for basic training plus additional time for your technical training. The Air Force is a great way of life. Let me know if I can assist.
Hi, I am interested in joining the reserves in order to continue my education. I'm glad you pointed out that it is more difficult to transfer to active duty if you start out as a reservist...why is that though? and also, is there a waiting period in order to use the tuition assistance if i go for the reserves? Thank you!!
While the Air Force looks the same for reserve and active duty, they are different to include how they are funded. If you want to serve full time, go active duty. If you want part-time, then reserve would be your better option. You could go active duty from the reserve side as an AGR which is Active Guard/Reserve. However, there are only about 2,800 slots worldwide and that includes all jobs. It's tough to get. You're eligible to use tuition assistance immediately but your leadership may require you to complete all of your upgrade training for your job first.
Thank you for this video. Is it difficult to get an AGR position as a commission officer in the Air Force? Second question, is it difficult to go from reserve to active duty (REG AF) as a commission officer?
Hello! Thank you for your service and this video. Will the Air Force accept me if I have student loans (they are in deferment)? The recruiter I had pretty much told me, I can’t join due to my loans. Is this true? If not, what can I do to join?
In regards to the VA loan, I recall you saying you had to be active duty for at least 6 months to qualify. How does that work as a reservist when you’re only doing your 1 weekend a month+2 weeks yearly? Since reserves aren’t considered active duty.
Idk but in the Navy Reserves if you are cross assigned (ie live in Miami but drill in Chicago) then you were covered for travel expenses. It may be the same in the AF Reserve but I am not sure.
Very informative! I would like to know if you're going into the Reserves how long do you have to be in after you finish Tech school before you can cross train into another job ?
That will depend. Usually you have to complete your 5-skill level. Remember that Air Force invested in you by sending you to technical training. Usually it's a few years that you have to give back in your original career field.
@@yourmilitarymoney Thank you for your response sir. Do you have a video on 5-skill level or mind giving insights on 5-skill level? I did find out the when you have a 6yr contract one is a to cross train over faster than a 4 yr contract enlistee. I will be going in as a E3. The job I originally wanted was Flight Attendant which I had to interview for , but wasn't selected because there was only one position and was told to I would have reapply. This is reason for cross training insights. Thanks again sir
Is it possible to switch to Active Duty before you leave tech school, if you were there to become a Reserve or Guard? Assume you are in a needed job field of course. Would that be as easy as the supervisors making that happen or does your Reserve supervision have to approve that. So the path is exactly the same at that point. Another variation of the question is can you switch your job during the basic training and go to a different tech school in order to switch to Active Duty? Thanks for the videos Hugo.
Short answer is no. Active duty Air Force and Air Force Reserve are two different components. You are either under the active side or the reserve side. If your goal is to be active, speak with an active duty recruiter. It is VERY difficult to go from reserve to active. Yes it can happen but it will be complicated and as always, it will depend on the needs of the Air Force.
@@yourmilitarymoney Thanks Hugo. It's too bad they aren't more flexible between all branches actually as far as getting in. I think a lot more civilians would want to serve in the reserve or guard if they knew they could possibly make a career change into active duty if the opportunity was there.
Im 34 and I have a child,.. I don’t want to go active for that reason. Is there a possible way to be reserve, while at nearby base.. but working like a full time job where u get to go home to see your child?? Man I really want to do enlist
Would it be possible to go straight into reserves out of high school while still attending college the following fall? I’d love to serve in any way possible even if it’s just as reserves. Thanks!
How long before you are locked in with the post office? There is a program called USERRA- read the two articles on the links: www.military.com/benefits/military-legal-matters/userra/userra-frequently-asked-questions.html and www.dol.gov/agencies/vets/programs/userra/userra_fs
Can you deploy for 6 months as "active duty" while a Reserve to then qualify for the VA loan? I've heard about Reserve members taking deployments and then coming home. Is that a thing?
How does job selection go as far as reserves? I know you’ll still have to qualify and everything, but are they still more selective or are people more-so allowed to choose a job of their liking (that they qualify for)?
It's based on your ASVAB score, job openings and your wish list. The reserve tries to match you to your preferred job but the needs of the Air Force always comes first. Retraining is a good option in the future if you want to do something different.
Can you become a pilot in the Air Force Reserves with no previous flight experience? If not, is there any option to do that with out doing active duty?
Hello, I was active duty officer (separated as a captain after 10 years) I am thinking about joining the reserves and just doing the weekends until I can retire. Can I just do that until I retire?
Thank you for your service. If a person with a bachelors degree join the air force reserves, would that person be eligible to become an officer while in the reserves?
Hey Hugo, I’m a current dod employee for the navy and am looking at jobs working on aircraft as a civilian but the job requires you to join the Air Force reserves. Are you familiar with the process of both getting that job and enlisting?
It's called Air Reserve Technician. You'll serve in both positions as they are tied together. Here's a link: www.military.com/military-report/full-time-air-reserve-technicians.html If you haven't gone through basic training, you'll have to do that followed by technical training. Most ART jobs begin at the rank of E5. Speak a professional and that is a reserve recruiter.
I know active duty you have to serve up to 4 years. How long do you have to serve in the reserve before you can leave? Do you have to live on base while on the reserve?
I know someone with OCD. Masters in criminal justice with digital forensics knowledge. Very intelligent. Is there anyway to get a waiver for the fact that he/she takes antidepressants for OCD? He/she wants to either join the reserves for the coast guard or Air Force as an officer.
Hello, thank you for all the information. I am currently a full time college student about to start my second year. You mentioned that it is not hard to be a full time student and work in the reserves, if so when is the best time to enlist in the reserves if I want to keep up with my studies? Also, is there a website or more information on what branch of reserves that describes what will best suit you? I want to eventually become a nurse or someone in the medical field and would like to pursue that either serving for the US or on the civilian side. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. If you join the reserve in any branch, plan on leaving home for basic training and technical training. That could be a time frame of 6 months up to a year. Once you get home, then you can return to school. I recommend you visit the websites of each branch to see what they offer. Also have an idea of what branch you would like to pursue and which branch you wouldn't.
So I’m watching this kind of late since I’m going to Air Force reserve basic on July 27, but as soon as I finish my Tech School On engineering I want to go to college. They said for my kicker eligibility I can earn up to $4500 each semester is that true?
My husband is active duty air force. He hasn’t been to basic yet. I am thinking about joining the air force reserves or active duty. I have always wanted to join the air force but I also want to finish school and we want to start a family soon as well. I am trying to decide if reserves would better help me in my situation!
You can either do active or reserve and still accomplish your goals- family and school. I did it on active duty and reserve was a little easier because the moves stopped. Base your decision on what you want and can do. Explore your options and do what's best for you.
Question: I'm 29 and for sure doing either the reserves or full time. My fiance however owns a business and depending on her success is why I'm leaning on reserves. He business makes enough money that it's nothing to scoff at. However hypothetically if it were to fail I'd want to be full time active duty. I will have my degree in 3 semesters in Comp.Sci. I understand it will be difficult to go from reserves to full time to active duty, but my question does it happen? Is it possible. If I have the opportunity I don't want to live with a "what if". I'm ok with reserves but I want to know I have the option even if slim. I think having a degree in tech would help.
The opportunity may be there but like we both said, it will depend on the needs of the Air Force. Nothing is guaranteed. We'll have to see when you (if) you cross that bridge. It also depends on the job the Air Force is looking for on active duty.
Thank You for your Service from an Air Force Veteran . I served ' 71 - ' 75 . I was a 64550 Inventory Mgt Specialist . E - 4 Sergeant .

You bring up a great point about stability in one location William. Thank you.
Thank you for this information, I was Security Forces for 6 years active duty and I’ve been out for 6 years. I’m looking to go AF Reserve and change my AFSC. Wish me luck.
Do it Justin! There are many good choices out there.

Do it Justin. The Air Force is a great way of life!

That's great news Vic. Do great things and continue to grow personally and professionally.
The fake Army was too much for you?! Lol
Thank you for the video. How exactly does the tuition assistance work? I have heard so many different things. Some have said you need one full year of service in the reserves before becoming eligible. Others have said you are eligible right away.
Tuition assistance eligibility is immediately and it’s $4,500 per year up to a master’s degree.
Wow, thank you so much for this video. So much valuable information!
Glad it was helpful!
Any information you have heard of regarding joining the reserves directly from Commission from AFROTC?
It does happen. You'll just be assigned to the nearest unit with your job.
Are you allowed to move to a different state while you’re in the reserves?
Yes
@@DamienRiven how long would you have to wait to move
yes, transfer units or just let your unit know location and return for drill, I live in Minnesota and drill in Missouri because I want to stay in my company.
@@charlesclark7213 god damn bro
The biggest PRO about being a reservist is not having to worry about PCS'g. You can move as many and however many times you want, to wherever. It's just that they will either pay for a ticket or mileage for you to get to your unit for drill. Also lodging. You'll also have to update the state for tax purposes in your MyPay so the taxes taken can reflect the same state you are a resident in. Not the state you report to for drill.
Depending on your AFSC you can move around readily between reserves to AD.....24 years USAFR had many opportunities to go active as a Flight Engineer.
You are helpful man. Thank you for making this video. Now I understood lots of things that I wasn't know.
I'm happy to hear that the video helped. Thank you for watching.
Coming from Army Active Duty... Definitely thinking of finishing my contract with Air Force Reserves

@@yourmilitarymoney Already in talks with a recruiter. Definitely going to cross train into personnel
Thank you for your service! I have a question: How do you resign from the Air Force?
In 27 with a Bachelors's degree... I'm so undecided if I should go back to school for my RN or just join the reserve
Thank you 🙏🏾, sir.
Thank you for watching.
Okay so, reserve to active can be a challenge. However what about enlisted reserves to officer reserves? And relocate where the job of choice is at?
Good luck!
Thank you sir
First of all, thank you for your service! I would like to go into law enforcement as a career, but I also have a strong interest in forensic psychology. I plan on applying to graduate programs for forensic psychology and doing reserves hopefully as an mp while taking classes. How realistic of a goal would you say this is in terms of handling schooling and military service?
You can definitely do it. I was active duty and finished school. You'll be a full time student and part-time military member so that is definitely doable.
@@yourmilitarymoney Thanks so much for the reply! Guess is got to start studying for the gre and asvab now! Lol
You touch on the reserve more than the guard, are there any differences we should know about between those two besides one has state side missions?
Hey, great video! So does your time at boot and your tech school count toward building up to the max pay out for school?
Eveyday you're on active duty, it counts one point per day.

Thanks, excellent information.

How can I make a good decision if I already have a bachelor? (I am 30 years old) If I choose OTS, can I be reserve? or just Active?
Both are options but it’s very competitive.
Would it be difficult to get the 6 months active duty to qualify for the home loan? Also would the training for a cyber or technical job be enough to get into the field as a civilian?
Overall no. You can volunteer to be activated or deploy. The training is solid and if you get any certifications on the side, that'll help too.

100% go active duty. Enlist for 4 years and see if you like it. You can do so much in the Air Force. I joined at 24 and it changed my life.
Can you be a reservist overseas? (specifically Japan?)
How long are you typically sent out in the reserve?
Hello, how do reserves get paid? Are they paid separately- one by the company they work for and the other by the airforce?
What's the different between Airforce reserves and Airforce National Guard? Also how can someone apply for a waiver for hernia?
Tks. It helped.

Is there room for electricians in the reserve, to serve in some capacity? What are your thoughts?
Yes. There are electricians in the Air Force. They are assigned to the Civil Engineering Squadron. Reach out to a recruiter and see what they say.

Hi I have a question does the Air Force reserve pay for your travel to drill weekend?

If you want an Air Force life, go active duty. If you want to stay a civilian, go Guard or Reserves. Both an "innocence" to your civilian life.
Thank you Sir 👍🏻🙏🏻😊
Thank you!
Can I choose to come back to my home state as a guard or reserve?
Yes as long as there are bases in your state and they have openings.
Would it be possible to go straight into reserves out of high school while still attending college the following fall? I’d love to serve in any way possible even if it’s just as reserves. Thanks!
Yes but it will depend on the length of your technical training. BMT is followed by technical training.
What was the process to getting a civilian job through the Air Force? What are some of the things you need to be a candidate for these types of jobs?
Jobs are posted on USAJobs.gov. Create your profile and resume. Networking is very important as well.
So if you can find extra work ( as a reservist ) it counts toward the active duty time needed to qualify for the VA home loan?
Absolutely. Try to get on Title 10 orders.
I work for the post office I heard to wait till I'm locked in the post office before I join the reserve.
What are the chances of deployment
It's a possibility. It will depend on your career field.
Yes. If you come in enlisted, later on you can apply for Officer Training School and see if you get selected. It definitely is a possibility.
If you enlist from the beginning in the reserve, the contract will be for 6 years.
Could I join and commission as an officer to be a pilot after I get my degree while in the reserves?
You can apply and see what happens. It does happen and your education center should be able to assist you with the process.
How does Tricare benefits work after you retire?
Active duty retirement or reserve retirement?
YOUR Military Money Reserve retirement. I have about 11 years of active duty with the Army and I’m considering joining the Air Force Reserve. Thanks
I know someone with OCD. Masters in criminal justice with digital forensics knowledge. Very intelligent. Is there anyway to get a waiver for the fact that he/she takes antidepressants for OCD? He/she wants to either join the reserves for the coast guard or Air Force as an officer.
They'll have to speak with a recruiter as they are the experts about medical requirements. I hope it works out for them.
I've never heard of a $4,500 kicker each semester. However, you will get tuition assistance of $4,500 each year up to a master's degree.
Does Air Force reserve offer housing or BAH
What’s selected reserve vs reserve?
