Wow... My instrument gave me issues for up to a year... It was so frustrating.none of the technicians I took it to could fix it.....but after watching your video, I got it fixed myself...today, my car started without any hassles and errors... Thanks a lot...
Absolutely fantastic i’m seeing this fault on mine. Thanks for the help! UPDATE: This has solved all the problems and if you have a soldering iron and a magnifying glass you can do this cost free yourself. My OBD scanner threw up 10 electrical faults that were all solved by two cold solder joints being repaired.
@@Cripinub1 maybe one of them was dubious although I only used a 1980's/90's ring light magnifier my mate got me from his works clearout. Unleaded solder is used from the factory, this has little flex properties compared to full fat solder with a tasty bit of lead in the mix. Ive done 4 of these clocks now and the audio unit from a Ford Ranger. Its always the shitty joints
I dont quite understand the U1900 code still.. My instrument cluster was resoldered yesterday will all solder joints re-flowed. But i still get that U1900 code and sometimes a code for PATS. Now i know a ford focus will only start with the cluster in the car, but my focus starts even without the cluster for some reason. Being that my focus is on its second engine and probably its second instrument cluster. Might explain why i still get a PATS code and U1900 even though im no longer having dash cluster issues anymore. My car all afternoon yesterday and all morning early today my XR5 has been running great ever since the resoldering was done
There are other reasons for this coming on as well, in very rare cases there's an earth under the battery tray area that bolts to the chassis, this can also cause the issue. We have soldered the board in the past and had the same fault, so we had to solder it again and it was solved! Good luck 👍
@@melsmotors well its been over a week now since the cluster was resoldered and no issues whatsoever. im just not going to worry about the code since its not really doing anything. who knows it probably sorted itself out. but so far no issues since the resolder, an there hasnt been any engine light neither. so, so far so good.
Hi, did you ever find out what the problem was? I've got exactly the same car and problem, comes up with engine and transmission malfunction as well as U1900 code
After the repair my throttle won’t work, could it be due to the reason I didn’t clear codes? I do not have the device but I did unplugged and replugged the battery…

I have nothing wrong with starting it just taking it out of park takes about 5-15 seconds and everything I believe works on the dash I did the lights test and I think everything came on
@melsmotors so how am I to hear the commentary from the video. I am having a similar problem with my car. It is not a silly comment. I want to fix my car.

Just did exactly the same and worked like a charm.....I'm happy now.thank for your video
You have made my day I've done exactly what you did and it's alive again thank you very much!!!!!!!
Re-flowed my friends Focus clocks last night. Fired right up today with no errors.. Thanks Mel..
Could you see any cracks in the joints? I’m looking for it but can’t even see any foul play in the joint s

Thank you for this video It helped me fix mine.
My solder joints looked fine but I reflowed them anyway and it worked.
Great and thanks for watching, glad it helped you out 👍🙂
I’m trying to find a broken joint but can’t see it, all looks fine. Gna reflow and see what happens
Thanks for this. The fault I had was because of the transponder in the key. I now use my other and the fault hasn't occurred anymore.
Great job, like the rationale at the end. Am going to do mine.
Great video. They don't build them to last anymore
This is a great video, will certainly help me. Great job

Hi my car is also playing up just a bit off advice can u solder with or without flux
Definitely use flux buddy 👍
Thank u for getting back the car done 163000
Hi, will this solve my power steering malfunction? Code u1900?
@@hollierebecca4192 it's unlikely, this is usually a dash and immobilizer issue
Is the same applicable to the Ford C-max 1.8 petrol 2008?Fault code is the same.Says engine malfunction speed limited mode on dash?
It should be the same, check with your mechanic first 👍
Hi, did you ever find out what the problem was? I've got exactly the same car and problem, comes up with engine and transmission malfunction as well as U1900 code
i stupidly removed the needles before marking position, is there a way to reset or calibrate these pointers once removed?
DOH! Only with a scan tool
Hey I subscribed to your channel. Will it just cut off while your driving and when you try starting it just cranks?
Usually keeps going whilst driving, but it will stop you from starting when it goes wrong

I have no idea! Are you sure that none of the solders are touching?
What scanning tool/software are you using? I've got the same issue when driving losing all power. Just started happening.
I use a variety of scan tools, Snap On, Launch, Autel, Topdon, Texa, Ancel, Foxwell, and a few others, no garage can survive with one scan tool!

I have no idea! You need to at least scan it and get some sort of information out of the car!
Can you share how do you manage to get the dashboard out?

My st is giving the same u1900 fault code...but it starts ...with engine malfunction...an pedal sensor fault
Pull out the dash and wiggle the wires whilst the car is running and see if you get other lights flickering 🤔

U1900 -20 code I have got
Hi U1900 is usually this problem. Some scanners add extra numbers at the end of the fault code!
